What do you think a Wayfinder Halloween would look like? Pre-BBS (if they ever learned about the holiday) and post KH3, if you’d like!

🕷️ 🌠 Wayfinder Halloween! 🌙 🎃

Pre-BbS:

Hmm… Well, Pre-Ven, Terra and Aqua didn’t do much of anything for Halloween. During Autumn, it would get too cold to train outside, so they’d switch to practicing dueling indoors. (And they had additional studying during the rest of their extra time.) Aqua was still learning how to bake back then, so she tried making pumpkin bars. They ended up being amazing. (Even Terra likes them—and he can be hard to please!) She started making those every year as a tradition. 

Once Ven arrived, he was actually the one who brought Halloween up to them—which was a bit of a surprise! So Master Eraqus decided to give them the holiday off to have fun—especially since Ven was so enthusiastic about it. There’s nowhere to go “trick-or-treating”, but they did make costumes with what they could find around the castle. In the evening, the four of them sat by the fireplace and took turns telling spooky stories. It… began seriously, but then Terra and Ven kept trying to outdo each other’s stories, and they turned completely ridiculous. (Eraqus and Aqua couldn’t help but laugh, which only encouraged them!)

Post-KH3, they had a lot more friends to spend the day with, so Terra, Aqua, Ven, and Chirithy decided to plan a Halloween party with the other guardians. They put their heads together, and agreed to do a haunted house. Conveniently, the Land of Departure can be transformed into a spooky castle! (Who would’ve guessed they’d use Castle Oblivion for something like that?) Once they’d set up candles and fake cobwebs, it was pretty convincing. Ven and Chirithy guided their friends through the halls, while Terra and Aqua were in charge of the spooky effects and illusions. It wasn’t nearly scary enough for some of their friends’ tastes (at least, that’s what Lea said) but that’s probably because none of them had the heart to actually frighten their friends.

Once everyone had gone through the haunted house, they reached the party at the end, where there were lots of sweets and candies. (Nowadays Chirithy helps Aqua bake too, so there were twice as many pumpkin bars!)

If you don’t mind more Waypoint AU questions, what would Ven’s thoughts be on seeing the Daybreak Town mural? Or potentially learning that Ephemer founded Scala?

Does he wind up in the same class as Xehanort or are the Scalan officials more wary of him because he’s the second stranger to randomly show up (after Xeha)?

If he remembers the other Union leaders, does he remember Ava or the book of prophecy?

The Daybreak Town mural! I’m glad you brought that up, it’s important. In Waypoint, Xehanort is the one to find it. Thanks to Ven, he knows that Daybreak Town is the place from his dreams. Because of the mural, he’s also able to figure out that Scala is that same world. Since Ven is still hoping to find a way back to Daybreak Town… Xeha has to break the news to him. He takes Ven to see the mural and explains everything… It’s a pretty sad moment in the story, and Ven has to accept that if the others aren’t in Scala, he probably won’t be able to find them.

For Ephemer, neither of them knows that he founded Scala. Ven keeps Ephemer’s memory alive by telling Xeha stories about him, at least. (Eraqus might know about Ephemer, so maybe he could help them connect the dots…)

Yes! Ven is in their class and gets a training Keyblade. (He has to learn to hold it the way the others do for training, but when they practice unsupervised, or go on their mission to find the upper classmen, he holds it the same as always.) He also has to learn to read their language, so Hermod, Urd, and Xeha take turns acting as “tutors”.

Master Odin is the only Scalan official concerned with watching over Ven. That being said, he has a lot of other students to take care of too, so he doesn’t find out much about Ven’s origins. Since Xeha pretends not to know much about his past, Ven follows his example. They’re almost a bit mischievous, in that way. Having two secretive friends only makes Eraqus want to ask more questions. In fact, Eraqus is quick to assume they come from the same world, and knew each other before coming to Scala. (He’s almost right...)

Ven remembers Ava, and recognizes the Foreteller’s animal symbols in the classroom :

 (It’s on the wall we can’t see in Dark Road, next to the entrance to the classroom.)

And the Book… he knows about it, sure, but that’s a little over his head. For the most part, he’s concerned with making new friends and trying to find out where the other leaders went. Xehanort on the other hand… he’s definitely interested in that sort of thing whenever Ven mentions it. I imagine Bragi spies on them when he can, just to make sure they don’t go getting any ideas.

Starlight, I am...SO curious about the Waypoint AU, haha. Does Ven still remember things here? What's his relationship with Xehanort/the rest of the DR classmates like? Do any of the DR crew know he came from the past?

I am so happy to talk about it!!

Regarding Ven’s memories, I would say he at least knows more than Xehanort does. He remembers the other leaders and their names, and that he’s from Daybreak Town. I’m still debating if Chirithy is around in this AU, but if they were, they would remember everything. (They might be present, but watching from a distance.) Much like before, Ven’s memories of Darkness would be altered, or missing some key details. 

Xehanort and Eraqus are his closest friends. The title “Waypoint” is because Xehanort is the one who holds Player’s memories of Ven. (The medium in this case would be the winds of Scala, rather than the Keyblade Graveyard.) They have a connection due to that (and Xehanort’s childhood). For the most part, they have a good friendship—but there are some instances where Xehanort’s curious nature gets the better of him, and he is more interested in Ven’s memories or darkness than…Ven as a person. He doesn’t always consider how Ven feels about looking into those things. 

Initially for Eraqus, Ven is just another friend who is a bit younger, like Vor. Xehanort is hesitant to fill Eraqus in about any of the mysteries going on, but he finds out later and gains an interest in uncovering more too. 

Bragi is… He can’t show his cards, but even without the Book he gets an impression that something is off. His relationship with Ven isn’t great, simply because their personalities clash. There’s a lot of teasing that Ven doesn’t appreciate. Like with Xehanort, Eraqus is their mutual friend. They’ll only willingly spend time together if he is around. 

Vor, Urd, and Hermod like Ven. There isn’t much to say for their relationships with him though, since Ven is still a little on the shy/quiet side, and they respect that. 

Baldr… knows what’s up. While he doesn’t know the full story, he can tell Ven has Darkness too. (But Ven’s is trapped inside him, rather than being one with him.) As you guys have predicted, this complicates things when Baldr is trying to enact his plan. Ven’s Darkness would rather not go down with the ship, so to speak. 

I think Baldr would like Ven for many of the same reasons he likes Hoder and Eraqus, but it would be.. off.. thanks to Darkness. 

Bragi, Xehanort, and Master Odin are the most knowledgeable about Ven’s past. Even so, Bragi never met him in Daybreak Town and Xehanort only has secondhand memories to work with. Odin knows he’s from another world and time, but doesn’t completely realize the significance of that.

Rewatching the timeline and finally got around to taking screenshots of Odin to point something out

This is how he looks from his standard position, facing the viewer’s (stage) left. Every other character, whether or not they have an asymmetrical design, simply mirrors the sprite elements for convenience (don’t wanna have to draw a complicated outfit from a different angle, do ya?): Vidar’s an excellent example of this phenomenon, considering his outfit is super asymmetrical with a half-skirt covering his “left” leg yet it being properly visible even when he faces stage right.

Now check out Odin facing stage right:

The hat still covers the left eye. Is this so important that they paid extra attention to this seemingly insignificant detail? Why would they go to such lengths to hide the left eye of a frankly minor character?
