So I’ve slowed down recently, and that is because I think am going to remake, progressing Kare’s story as I do so. I’ve been sitting on it for a while, and have recently made a start to drafting a new bio and the like.

However I’ve still got a lot to do so it won’t be quite yet, just a heads up on why things are slower, and I’ll post more info later when I’m finished.

What does this mean for our threads? 

I’ll be making a #past verse on the new blog, so interactions, both old and new, with his version of Kare will still be available. So don’t worry, I like where he is now enough to keep interactions open for this version, but I also wish to move forward to the point where, he has both mastered his blade, and has become a full blooded demon.

“…Yeah, I guess that’s fair.” All this mention of food and bread was starting to make her hungry now. She had breakfast before she left, but she’d certainly been gone a while. 

She rubbed the back of her head, now she wanted something sweet. Oh well, she could wait until later, couldn’t she? This was a bit more important to her! If she really wanted to start traveling, she had to plan it out!

She nodded quickly, grinning. “A tent and a weapon!” She briefly wondered if her Hall of Mirrors could serve as both, but it wasn’t really an offensive ability. It was more of a trap to hold people inside - to make them see their own insecurities and force them to face the truth of their existence. 

It didn’t work on her, of course, which would make it decent shelter, but the weapon she still had to work out…

“-Oh! I’ll just ask my uncle for one of his scales!” Scales, knives, there was no difference when it came to her Uncle Raryx. he was made of them, looked like just a pile of blades when he slept that someone had haphazardly thrown a coat on. 

…She didn’t even know if the scales could come off of him, but she’d ask anyway. 

He didn’t mean to make her hungry, it was only suggestions to help her journey. The assassin would feel guilty if he pushed her on, only to allow her to go unprepared and land herself in danger.

Restricted in how little he knew of her, Kare only nodded, content that he was helping her with her plans. Even if she was an inhuman being, there was much risk to travelling, especially if she planned to go alone.

“Your uncle... for his scales?” Kare asked, head tilting in his concern. Her family seems stranger to him by the moment as they continue speaking.

“W-Well, I hope he can give you something. Oh-- Don’t forget to get a good map and use it to plan as well! I’m not sure what types of locations will interest you, though.”

For a moment, Lucea couldn’t reply to Kare’s words. But when Kare’s hand fell on his shoulder, he felt like he had woken up from a nightmare. “…Yes, I know.” He knew. He knew that he couldn’t bring her back. Her sound told him everything he needed to know. She made her resolve. Nothing could change her mind. But even so,

He wished he could make her change her mind. He wished he could be strong enough to protect her, to help her. 

But he’s still powerless. 

He didn’t change at all since that day. 

Still the same powerless child who could only watch his friend leave. 

And, when she did leave, it’s when his tears poured down. “Uhg… “ He couldn’t stop crying. He knew what her sound was like. How she was in pain. And not just her. Kare as well. 

“Why… is it always…” He muttered. He knew the answer already. He needed to get up. He needed to face forward. He needed to see Himegyllis. He needed to find clues to help Akane. He needed to keep himself together. He’s the leader. He’s their leader. He must not be weak. Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry. 

And when those feelings overwhelmed him, he lifted his hand up, and slapped his own cheeks with both hands. The pain rang on his cheek. And he immediately wiped his tears. It hurts, the pain burns on his skin, and he wiped too hard that it hurt his face too. But, it reminded him of how his friends are in an even worse pain that these. 

He took a deep breath, then looked at Kare’s direction. Blue eyes, albeit swollen, looking truer than ever. “We need to go. There’s a reason she couldn’t tell us. We need to find out.” He said. 

“Whatever she’s involved in, it’s something that made her wanted by the police. Kare, it pains me to ask you, but I don’t have any other choice… Do you have any connections with an informant? Especially from that side.” He asked. Kare should know very well what he means by that side. 

That wish was shared, and it was something strongly believed in by the assassin-- Even if they couldn’t get her back now, he knew one day they would, no giving up otherwise.

He thought them far from powerless in this situation. He had his own skills and ties, as did the guild. They can do this, he knows it.

A hand placed over his limiter, Kare relocked his seals, the emerald in his gaze returning, along with the prior withheld tears. With the curse no longer pushing back his emotions, the pain stung even more.

Kare wasn’t aware of Lucea’s distress over their powerlessness, but if he did, the assassin would simply assure his friend that such wasn’t the case. Sometimes, you need to wait to help matters, even if it hurts.

Upon the other’s tears as well, Kare’s frown only grew, a moment from speaking up to help reassurance, he was halted when Lucea instead slapped his own face, emerald hues widening in response. 

Swiping at his own features, Kare managed a laugh, all before he carefully grasped Lucea’s arm, and pulled him into a hug.

“Always what?”

It’s hard to be strong when all you want is to break down, Kare knows that well, and it only made his desire to bring comfort stronger. But as to not impose, he didn’t hold on for long, releasing Lucea soon after, he had been asked a question, after all.

“Ah... Yes.”

“I know many who deal with information, more so from that side than any other... If we need to know something, they’ll find it, as long as the cost is met.”

After contacting his brother, the assassin knew he would need to reach out to some old ‘friends’ for the information he needed-- It was worth it to him, all to help Akane.

Her eyelids fluttered open as he pulled away.

Wait, what?

“Deal… with them..?” 

She was worried about what he meant. She knew it was probably something dark. She had no desire harm the priests if that’s what he meant. “I… suppose we could speak to them. That wouldn’t hurt.”

“Oh, you’re so adorable,” the demon mocked. 

It’s a response he should have expected from her, but considering what he was now? Hoped she would notice otherwise, in her internal knowledge of it being something dark, she was correct.

Resting his face on her own, the demon continued.

“No, Hikari, I’m not going just to speak with them. I’m going to do something far worse. And I promise it is going to hurt.”

Conrad still wasn’t quite certain as to what to think about Rune’s claims there. It was easy for him to be wary with people he didn’t know, moreso in a situation like this.

“Some, he did say you were skilled with some forms of magic at the least, and trying to research his sword too.” That was the general ghist of it, but he was still trying to see if he could find this person to be someone to trust still.

That was until he heard Kare coming, something of which brought some relief to the vampire at the very least.

“Kare, I want you to confirm something. This man that I caught lurking around, he claims to be your brother, Rune. Is that true or is he an imposter? I do sense very strong magic coming from him, but this would require your expertise”

Besides, he would at least trust Kare’s judgment when it came to that. And the moment Kare would confirm the truth, he would dispel the cage entirely so they could at least make it to somewhere safer.

“Well... at least it was nothing bad,” Rune shrugged.

The once assassin didn’t mind the situation he was in, yet any attempt to escape could land them in trouble. Still, the other seemed at least the more level headed type, which was a relief in itself.

Looking from Conrad to Rune, Kare pouted upon his approach.

“Nope, never seen him in my life,” Kare replied. “Not sure why you’re sensing magic, but that could mean he’s dangerous so you better be careful-- You never know what tricks he’ll pull,” he warned, starting to walk away only to turn back with a smirk.

“...”

Expression dropping, Rune scowled at his brother in return, Kare simply chuckling.

“Fine, fine... Yes, he is unfortunately my brother,” Kare admitted, a sigh following. 

“Don’t worry, Conrad.”
