I have a lot of stuff like this & people think I'm SUPER organized now, it's hilarious because they don't see the giant mental mess under the scaffolding of notes & routines or the 30+ years of flailing

From the book Organizing Solutions for People with ADHD:

Putting a coat on the back of a chair by the door is fine, but if you prefer, use coat hooks and a large catch-all basket for dropping keys, hats, gloves.

Small bookcase end-table next to the couch to store craft projects, books, and other things being worked on for easy access.

Add a storage unit near the dining room table to transition between eating and working there.

Daily toiletry items should be stored in a basket that you can move easily

Extra toiletries and medicine cabinet items go in open shelf/basket storage so they can be seen and used easily. If items no longer fit, purge the excess. Don't obscure the view!

If you disrobe in the bathroom, place a tall hamper in there.

Keep a set of cleaning supplies in each bathroom

University AU where Hob is one of those people that writes notes to himself all over his arms and hands. Digital reminders are too easy to dismiss and sure he's tried notebooks but they get left on a desk or in his dorm or in the grocery store produce aisle that one time, so it's not really a sustainable system. He has the bandwidth to remember his phone, his keys/wallet, and his laptop, and everything else is chance. He really is one of those types of people who would lose his head if it wasn't attached to his neck, at least his arms are more than likely going to stick with him.

Hob has a colorful pile of pens that write well on his hairy skin and the hard won ability to write semi-legibly with both hands to double his writing space. His assignments, grocery lists, personal to-dos, that one song a friend mentioned all get written on his skin so he doesn't have to remember to remember them.

It's all nicely contained until the day he is talking to one of his classmates about books and grabs their arm to write down his recommendation. Hob notices that Dream doesn't really object to the touching or the writing, and from that point on the floodgates open.

At first he just writes ideas and such for Dream on the other's skin but when Dream keeps coming up with reasons for Hob to write on him it quickly evolves into Hob writing himself reminders on Dream just to have the excuse later to grab his wrist and “check” the reminders by running a finger over them. Dream starts to regularly sport t-shirts under his jacket and arms covered in colorful scrawls in contrast to his otherwise monochromatic pallet.

When they start dating, Hob starts writing love notes on Dream’s skin. Little things like “remember: Hob loves you.” “date tonight 6pm” or “looking gorgeous” alongside the doodles and more day to day reminders. Dream might have a phone album full of snapshots of the notes.

When Dream proposes, he steals one of Hob's pens and takes the other man's hand to write “say yes to marriage proposal” on the back of it under the current to-do list. Hob doesn't even let the ink dry before he is trying to kiss the breath out of Dream while simultaneously saying yes.

This is the cutest thing ever, actually.

Dream is perfect for writing on (although he complains about it, just to keep up his unapproachable goth vibes). He's smooth and paper white, and honestly Hob could save so much money on notebooks and just write on Dream instead. Truthfully, most of what Hob writes is cute sappy stuff, or little inside jokes, or occasionally "drink some fucking water, you are just a houseplant with emotions".

On of Hob’s wedding presents to Dream is a lil trip to a tattoo studio, where Hob gets his marriage proposal permanently inked onto his skin (he didn't wash his hand for a week to preserve the message, and Dream is both disgusted and impressed). In return Hob writes a special "hob loves you" message for Dream to get tattooed as well. Its very schmoopy and Dream is secretly soooo pleased with it.

Yes, Hob also draws a lot of dicks on Dream, by the way. Sometimes the dicks have lil smiley faces. Sometimes they are semi accurate representations of Hob’s dick. This is all fine and good until Dream goes for his first fancy job interview after uni... with a massive, only slightly faded, cartoon penis on his hand. He still gets the job, but Hob has a lot of grovelling to do when he gets home...

He lets Dream draw all over him in bed, that night, to make up for it. And when Dream writes "MINE" is a few specific places on his body, Hob discovers a very specific kink. There may be a few more tattoos coming down the line... if he's a good boy and earns Dream’s writing on his skin <3

And everybody is just used to wondering sometimes wtf the Corinthian is chewing on in the middle of the night — best not to think about it. And sometimes Nuala casts a little faery spell to help her bedmates sleep, and Dream looks over like I MISLIKE LITTLE MAGICS IN MY REALM!! And then he sees Lucienne's peacefully sleeping face after weeks of tension (/centuries, because, like, dream time), and he feels guilty because maybe that was his job and maybe he's been too busy with the visitors to the Dreaming rather than its permanent inhabitants, so he just snuggles down and whispers, "Nuala? You did the right thing."

And everybody's happy.

(And the Corinthian's still chewing.)

Sometimes the palace residents give him a strange little look, as they do whenever dreamers wander too deep into the heart of the Dreaming, but Hob just saunters over sleepily & climbs into this perfectly normal cluster of sleeping strangers.

(After this happens several times, they might subtly leave a little space beside the King of Dreams when they see Hob approaching, because Dream's always in such a better mood after he's cuddled up with his human!)

Hob would like it known right off the top that he is neither big nor bad --- he is very nicely cuddly in either of his forms, thank you very much, with some muscle and some [very, very sexy - if he does say so himself] padding; and he would say he's more saucy, with a healthy distain for authority, than bad!

He's lived in, and protected, this forest for longer than there's been a "king" and he'll be here well after the king is gone. This is all to say he's certainly a wolf (a lupine shifter) but not a big bad one -- he likes grannies (he helped the nice older "witch" of the forest with her groceries just the other day!).

So when he finds a crying young boy in the forest wearing a red hooded cloak his first instinct is to help. Orpheus is scared, bad men came and took his daddy; and he ran as fast as he could, like his daddy told him too,,,,,, but now he's lost and alone and the bad men still have daddy.

Mr. Wolfy, Mr. 'Ob, is so warm and cuddly. He said he would help Orpheus get get his daddy back.

I'm so soft about this. Imagine fluffy, gentle Hob (in human form) scooping little Orpheus up in his arms, balancing the sobbing child on his hip and rocking him gently. Orpheus explains the whole situation in whimpers and sobs and buries his little face in Hob’s nice soft beard. Hob puts him down carefully, promises that the two of them will find Orpheus's daddy, and promptly shifts into the biggest, fluffiest wolf you can imagine.

Orpheus is thrilled to ride on Hob’s back, hanging onto the shaggy coat as they travel through the forest. Hob has a pretty good idea of where Dream may have been taken, and when they reach the place where the forest ends and a huge fortress appears, he shifts back into human form. He gives Orpheus a big hug and tells him to stay put - he'll be back with daddy as soon as he can. He leaves Orpheus with milk and a nice big slice of pie, and disappears off in the direction of the fortress.

Orpheus waits very bravely and patiently and is just dropping off to sleep when... Hob springs out of nowhere!! He grabs Orpheus's little red hood in his jaws and uses it to pull him along until he is finally grabbed properly by a pair of hands - it's his daddy, riding on Hob’s back!!!

Even burdened by riders, Hob outruns Dream’s captors easily and takes him and Orpheus deep into the safety of the forest. Hob has an arrow in his butt, but he doesn't seem particularly hurt. There's logic as well as sexiness behind all that padding.

Orpheus and Dream end up staying with Hob for a while, for safety and so Dream can recover from the beating he got from the soldiers. Hob has a nice safe den and Orpheus gets to play in the pretty glade outside while Hob, ummm, nurses his dad's wounds? Hob definitely seems to be kissing him better a lot.

Orpheus feels so happy and safe with his daddy and Mr Hob. He hopes they can stay forever. And Dream seems pretty happy too - if the way he cuddles up against Hob’s soft fluffy tummy is anything to judge by!!

After Nights of Endless Watching by @nicolodigenovas: I think this is my favourite musician-Dream fic. So much pining, with Hob listening to Dream on the radio, and Dream singing his heart out over and over for him.

How Would You Like It? by @rhinozilla: This is my fav take on "What if Dream did as Death does and spends a day in the shoes of his dreamers?" (ie, asleep, just like a people.) And of course, who would he trust to watch his sleeping body but Hob?

My wildest dreamings could not foresee by Yary: The best Dreamling vampire AU. Vampire Dream, human Hob, and Dream realizing that some humans are a lot more tolerant of his bloodsucking habit than he might expect. It's SO GOOD.

In Waking Dreams by @chaosheadspace: This is so beautiful and wistful and sad. A memory of Orpheus that Dream repeatedly lives through comes to him when he is with Hob.

Poker Face by @fellshish: Great fishbowl rescue fic. Hob joins a poker game at the Burgess Manor.

Come Morning Light by @five-and-dimes: Really great angst/hurt/comfort all about that fishbowl trauma and how it's affected the way Dream sees humanity in light of Roderick Burgess's treatment of him. More specifically, how he sees -- and perhaps fears -- Hob.

The Temple of the King by bluesundaycake: There aren't nearly enough fantasy AUs in this fandom. This is an excellent AU with mercenary Hob bound to the Nightmare King Dream.

A Thing with Wings by @thesuspiciousflyingjellyfish: I think this might be my favourite "canon fate averted" fics. Dream wishes for one thing before he meets his end: to try again at being a father.

The Dread and Fear of Kings by maybemalapert: Wherein Hob is captured by Roderick and held in the same room as Dream. Great whump, and an excellent mutual rescuing at the end of it.

Dulce et decorum est by @moorishflower: This is the best fishbowl rescue fic mostly because Dream is at his whumpiest and then Hob is just so fascinatingly violent and vengeful. Love that for him.

Real People by spqr: The ultimate classic Dreamling kid fic, with a heavy helping of Dream's terrible communication skills.

an immortal's guide to contrition by trellomonkey: In response to 1889, Hob determines to woo Dream and his dreams become filled with all his various ideas on how to do so. Very sweet!

Afterimage by scribeofarda: Post 1x06, Dream having Trauma and Hob helping him through it. I love trauma recovery <3

If you are reading this version, you didn't see my typo calling this fic "Dream of a thousand fishes." Oh my god. /o\)

for truth proves thievish for a prize so dear by anon: Ahhhhhhh there aren't enough 1389 Dreamling AUs!! Dream starts a love affair with 1389 Hob, not knowing that his sister has made him immortal as a gift to them both.

I'm stuck on you (I'm mighty glad you stayed) by @hardly-an-escape: Oh god this one is so cute and sweet. Human Dreamling stuck in an elevator and falling in love (and also having panics, but the two are not related).

Stray Cat Strut by cyankelpie: Touch starved Dream seeking comfort as Meowpheus soliciting pets without having to face the mortifying ordeal of being Known. So really, perfect fic.

It's about the journey, not the destination, or some bullshit like that by @mentallyinvernation: Oh man, I love Matthew getting thrown into the mix, and this fic takes it to the next level by also forcing Dream and Hob (human AU) and their two kids and Matthew all into a tiny car on a roadtrip towards a vacation destination. It's great.

And i have known the arms already by @karalynlovescake: Human Dreamling, it's amazing, i've never read a fic that deals with the complications that arise in a relationship over sexual dysfunction and it's so lovely and compassionate and I especially love how Hob is so understanding but also finds himself disappointed that he isn't able to magically make Dream's sexual dysfunction better. Great and unique fic!

Hob Gadling's Executions by @secondjulia: I love this series. Very unique take on the centennial situationship, this time with Dream following along as Hob faces various deaths and still persists in desiring to live.

meetings-that-weren't by sky-of-sunflowers: Truly fantastic fic of Dream thinking himself very sneaky by meeting Hob many times between their 100 year appointments in different forms, but Hob catching wise to him every time.

What Manner of Creature by @ro-moray: Hob Gadling over the years trying to figure out what sort of creature he has made a deal with. The very last section is my absolute favourite.

I have lately learned the difference by Cthonion: Hob dreams often of cages. He doesn't know why until after Dream has escaped and reunited with him. I adore fics like this about Dream's trauma leaking through and finding its way to his only human friend.

You Are Safe Here (You Know Now) by @dsudis: SO sweet, human AU of neurodivergent Dream and Hob learning they are safe with each other in their relationship. I adore this one a lot.

Closing the Distance by Ryunya: I am weak for Dream being both touch starved and also overstimulated by being out in the world again. And that's what this bad boy is all about.

If you would have me by @lord-morpheus-ravens: Dream's siblings decide to save him from his fate by forcing on him a consort. He challenges his suitors to pluck the key to his chambers from the form of a cat -- who is himself. This is such a fun fic, of Dream outrunning various suitors and escaping to relax as a cat at Hob's as a safe haven.

fly me to the moon by @the-apocrypha: Dream's fishbowl time left him claustrophobic, and this is very inconvenient, so he enlists Hob's help in fixing it. Wonderful!! Bless Hob and his infinite patience and inability to take shit.

just find the feeling, pass it on by @thirtysixsavefiles: Fantastic New Inn as a temple fic. Beautifully written and very soft.

You Slow Down Time (In Your Golden Hour) by @purplesauris: So cute and sweet and lovely. Dream courting Hob and it is all so wonderful.

slow burn by arahir: The first Sandman fic I read, and one of the best for sure. Another one with Dream's trauma leaking into Hob's dreams. Dream struggles with letting Hob comfort him. It's SO GOOD and ends with outsider pov, which i am WEAK FOR.

Unsent Letters: Nameless Stranger by @rainbowvamp: God, I LOVE a good epistolary fic, and this one is fantastic. Was such a joy to read them as they came out. These are letters over the years that Hob wrote but never sent to Dream.

Spite (is as good a reason as any) by blue_sunshine: Oh, I love Hob's whole personality in this fishbowl rescue fic. He teams up with Jo as well, what could be better? He determines to find Dream for spite-reasons after 1989.

King of Infinite Spaces by @that-banhus: I love this fic so much. Post TV series, Hob begins to have strange dreams, gets to know his centennial friend better, and deals with a student who has a difficult life and a strange talent.

The Seven Lamps of Architecture by @quillingwords: Criminally underappreciated historical and canon-divergence au fic set in Venice in the 1400s. So inventive, with the story wrapping up in a way that had me going, "Oh, of course!" And since it was a bigbang fic, there's INCREDIBLE art by @the-cloudy-dreamer as well!

I'll go to sleep and dream again by @chaosheadspace: The best take on temporarily-human Dream. I love the unease he feels at being forced into a finite body when he is meant to be infinite.

The Story Teller by @the-apocrypha: A wonderful kid-fic featuring a temporarily de-aged Morpheus.

Once in a Lifetime by equus8: Beautiful longfic of Dream learning (gradually, so very gradually) how important Hob really is to him, over the course of a brief vacation from the Dreaming triggered by a bet with his sister. Early chapters are set in the past and are Hob-centric, but the bulk of the fic is modern day.

Right Place, Right Time by sherwoodfox: Dream and Hob meet, and love each other, in dreams over the years. So when Dream is captured, Jessamy goes to her master's lover to ask for help.

Proving Faith by anon: I think this is the only WIP in here. Absolutely lovely fic about Hob and Dream growing together during a difficult time in both their lives: Dream, coming to terms with feeling betrayed after the fishbowl; and Hob, whose time in his current life has come to an end and he needs to move on.

Thy Fearful Symmetry by @secondjulia: Fantastic Endless-as-vampires fic, and Dream having Lots of Guilt over it. Very messy, lots of emotion, lots of back and forth between Hob and Dream, I love it.

only the register by @catalists: Hob meets Paul at an art gallery and makes a scene about it. This and its sequel are some of my favourite fics, and I love a vengeful and violent Hob.

a very old dance by anon: Dream/Lucienne, lovely emotional and sexy take on a dom/sub relationship between the two. Sometimes, Dream just needs to be topped.

You Don't Understand by violent-entertainment: I'm so fascinated by this one. No one ever told Hob in 1389 about the immortality thingy. So he comes to some very... offbase... conclusions about it over the years.

Tame Wolves in Dark Woods by mare-adamantis: Chilling and fantastic dark fic about the Corinthian having been captured by Erasmus instead of Calliope.

The Lady, or the Tiger by jamais-vuo: Fascinating character study of Ethel, and how she frees the tiger from his cage. (Yes. YES!)

there is a starving, naked man in that cage why is no one helping him? by Sablehaven: I love this outsider pov of a newly hired guard in the Burgess Manor having a conscience and saving Dream because it's right.

Baiting the Trap by Korhzel: Fascinating Dream/Corinthian fic series, very smut heavy but chock full of the complicated and "that can't be healthy but i guess it works for them" dynamic that I love this ship for.

Hob makes sure to alter his language about sex to make sure that Dream is comfortable. Like instead of talking about pleasure, physically feeling good etcetc, he morphs his sexy talk to be more about the bond between them and how he feels so close to Dream. It definitely helps Dream to feel more relaxed and like sex actually is something that's for him. And he also knows that Hob will always ask first before making any moves on him. Dream honestly really appreciates the way having sex builds trust and love between them. And the cuddles afterwards are a great bonus!
