S01E12 Prophecy Girl
Spoiler warning! This post contains spoilers for the TV shows Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel The Series.
The first season finale! Buffy died and everything! It has my favorite line from the Master: "prophecies are tricky things, they don't tell you everything", which ends up being applicable over and over again in both shows. Buffy's dress was gorgeous. The intro song dropping was kick-ass.

S01E11 Out of Mind, Out of Sight
Spoiler warning! This post contains spoilers for the TV shows Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel The Series.
Marcie Ross didn't see Buffy coming! Get it? Because she was invisible but underestimated Buffy? Ok, I'll see myself out.
A surprisingly introspective Cordelia takes her first step toward joining the Scoobies. Marcie wasn't trying to end the whole world, only Cordelia's. Angel rescues Giles, Xander, and Willow, arguably having a greater impact in the future of the story than Buffy in this one episode. We've all seen how different she would have been without her friends.
Another Day, Another Slay.

i just think buffy has two hands she can date both faith and spike and then spike can also date angel and angel has maybe not a romantic but a deeply fucked up self recognition thru the other type of relationship with faith

S01E10 Nightmares
Spoiler warning! This post contains spoilers for the TV shows Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel The Series.
SMG flexes her acting chops. There's just no getting around it, when Buffy cries, I cry.
What an interesting study of each character's subconscious in this episode. And Billy's story is sadly not as far-fetched as it ought to be (minus the part about bringing the nightmare world to life). The Ugly Man, in and of itself, not such a formidable opponent. Tough, yes, but I feel strongly that Buffy would've found a way to defeat him even without added vampire powers. Another Day, Another Slay. However, the nightmare world, if unchecked, would've destroyed reality.
My verdict: Billy saved the world (as we know it).

The best piece of advice I ever got was not meant as advice, but as an edict. If I was going to threaten people as a joke, it had to be so far out of proportion with what happened that it would be obvious I was joking. This changed how I expressed frustration with others. It then changed how I expressed frustration with myself.
Not “I’m going to hit you” but “I am going to buy a tuna sub from the gas station and hide it under the seat of your car”
Not “I’m going to kill myself” but “I am going to walk into the desert and let the scarabs take me”
The other side then happened. When I mess something up, instead of saying it’s bad and perpetuating negative thoughts, swing hard the other way.
Not “this art is terrible” but “this shall be framed and mounted on the wall in my museum exhibition as testament to the suffering I had to overcome”
Have been doing this since high school. It was my drama teacher who asked me to please stop scaring the actors. The other half of the edict was that I had to say it in a polite tone, and end it with either please or thank you.
Life changing. 10/10 Mr Muëller. Highly reccomend.

S01E09 The Puppet Show
Spoiler warning! This post contains spoilers for the TV shows Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel The Series.
RIP, Morgan and Sid. Welcome, Principal Snider!
Snider is a threat in his own right but let's stick to the actual monster of the episode. After multiple misdirects, we finally find out it was Mark The Magician all along. /shrug

it is a little bit wild that by virtue of ats s5 being the last canon tv installment of the buffyverse, spike and angel's arcs culminate in... each other. like spike isn't allowed to rest after his sacrifice because the network needs to pull more viewers his new hero status has to be put to the test against angel. angel can't comfortably rest on his laurels as the vampire with the soul because spike is there. their arcs with buffy shape them into the people they eventually become, but canon deliberately leaves the future of those relationships ambiguous! ats is where they go to figure out how to lead lives without buffy but with the other vampire-with-a-soul in them. and i don't even mean this in the way where spike/angel is somehow more meaningful or romantically endgame than their other relationships, i just mean like... those two old dudes are never gonna escape each other, for better or for worse. like there's literally a whole prophecy to that effect. wild stuff.

sorry but literally the first thing angel ever said to spike was "finally, a man! you have no idea how boring it is only sleeping with women. we can have some fun together" then took him on a date (wedding slaughter) but spike was so head over heels for drusilla that he did not pick up on any of angel's signals and was just like "well i had a really good time watching you murder people, it was really funny, and—no thank you, i'm not hungry—but anyway, i wanna go hang out with dru." and that hurt angel's feelings so he had spiteful sex with dru to hurt spike's feelings back. and neither of them ever got over it

S01E08 I Robot, You Jane
Spoiler warning! This post contains spoilers for the TV shows Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel The Series.
Our first robot episode! I know most people have a hard time taking the demon-bot seriously but this one is such campy fun for me. I love how Buffy uses her smarts and the environment to trick the robot to punch a fuse box when she realizes brawn alone won't do. I love meeting Jenny Calendar for the first time! Where does she dangle that corkscrew thing from?? Fritz and Dave are so different from each other and so interesting! For one-shot characters, anyway.
To business, though. What is Moloch's actual threat level? I'm having kind of a hard time classifying this one. By possessing every computer connected to the internet, he definitely had world-ending power (quote Buffy, "access launch codes to our nuclear missiles"), until Giles and Jenny bound it. Once trapped in the machine, it was a fairly routine slayage.
My verdict: Giles and Jenny saved the world. For Buffy, it was just another day in the job.

S01E07 Angel
Spoiler warning! This post contains spoilers for the TV shows Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel The Series.
What a twist! A vampire and a vampire slayer in love. But was it world changing? Arguably, for us, the audience, yes. Not so much within the show, though.
Threats faced:
The Three. Do they even deserve mention? It wasn't even Buffy who killed them but Darla, under the Master's orders. Shocking that they even got a throwaway reference in S3.
Darla, my love. The quintessential "I can fix him" girlfriend. Besides the twist reveal in the pilot when she attacked the boy who broke into the high school with her, would've been a criminally under-utilized character in BTVS, maybe even forgettable, if it wasn't for her role in ATS. There she finally got a chance to shine! Nevertheless, her goals were never to destroy the world, only to enjoy it -- preferably with Angelus by her side. Not killed by Buffy either, but by Angel.
Another Day, Another Slay.
