Without sparing it a thought, Shift moved into her question. “I’ve been…busy, to be honest.” As the shadows start to fade, he maintains a steady gaze. “I thought it was safe to be here, but it turns out I need more training. Since the issue’s settled for now though, I’ve been spending my days in Beacon’s library. It’s been a great change of pace.”

Pausing in pleasant memory of his studies, a small smile breaks, as does his gaze before quickly focusing back on Pyrrha. “Sorry about that. The late nights must be getting to me. How have things been with you?”

Steadily making his way through Beacon's courtyard, Shift spots a familiar face by the school. Hoping to catch her attention, Shift picks up his pace until she's just within earshot. "Hey, Pyrrha. It's been a while," he smiled, slowly closing the distance to a few feet. As he stood there, awaiting a response, he had completely forgotten that most weren't familiar with his unarmored form.

With classes just concluding for the day, Pyrrha had been aiming to make it to the shop and back quickly before launching herself into the usual schedule of training, homework assignments and tutoring when a voice called to her across the courtyard. It was familiar, but she couldn’t quite place it.

“Hello?” She said by way of response. The courtyard was busy enough with a few people dotted around, but it became apparent the voices owner was the figure who stopped and looked at her expectantly. A figure she was certain she’d never seen before.

Stopping in her own tracks, she gave them a warm if confused smile. “I’m so sorry. Do I know you from somewhere?”

Even before hearing the question, seeing Pyrrha’s expression brought concern to his own. “That’s strange. I never thought I could be forgotten; especially, considering my...”. Looking towards his hand, and seeing just that, Shift quickly buried his face behind it before letting out a small sigh.

“I’m sorry, Pyrrha. We’ve never actually met face to face.” Pulling his hand away, and donning a mask of shadows, he continues, “I was hiding the last time.”

Pushing past the initial shock, Shift found himself walking towards her. 

Only a month ago, such a thing would’ve made him quite nervous, but whether it was his own volition, or the drink he’d just had, he decided to go for it.

Seeing her stare at the light, he simply asks, “Is everything alright, miss? You seem a bit…troubled.”

Having spent more time than expected, Shift burst out of Juniors and began speeding down the street. The barkeep was good for a drink, but a bit stiff with information. As he tried to forget an irritating impasse, part of him thought back to when someone had broken through. A blond berserker, who lit up that nightclub with incredible energy. Hoping to see her again, Shift continued to frequent the joint, but to no avail. So, when he saw her standing right on the street corner, he froze in place.

Standing on the corner of the street Yang, looked up at the bright street lamp above her. It’s light flickering…it was giving her a headache.

Maintaining his smile until Oobleck was out of sight, Shift turned to enter the library, releasing a small sigh as he opened the door.

“So that’s Doctor Oobleck...,” he mused. “If his knowledge is half as great as his passion, then I’ve got a lot of reading ahead of me.”

Shutting the door behind him, Shift passes into the room, slowly taking in the treasure it held. A collection of texts beyond anything he’d ever seen, all waiting to share their secrets.

With a subtle shine in his eyes, he began scanning the shelves, quietly muttering to himself, “It’s about time I caught up.”

Extending his hand to Oobleck, he continues, "Thank you for everything, Doctor. I look forward to talking with you more. It's...been a nice change of pace."

Silently berating himself for the pitch, Shift let out a nervous laugh. He'd heard history was Oobleck's specialty, but hadn't considered how broad his scope might be. Hoping to rectify the situation, at least in his mind, Shift decided on a fast follow-up, letting his laughter fade and speeding up to Oobleck's side.

After mulling the titles over to himself, he looked the doctor in the eyes, "Thank you. I'm sure they'll prove useful." Letting only a moment slip by, he continued, "Perhaps I can return the favor someday."
