Stilling with the cigarette close to his lips, he would lean on the railing and inhale as he stared at the city before them. Beautiful? Really? He had never seen it as such, though for some it was pleasing enough to look at. It beat some of the views from around the world he had experienced that was for certain.
And yet-
“It’s pleasant enough,” He would reply finally. “I think I’m too nostalgic of an old man to think that anything is beautiful beyond the town that still holds my heart. Walks along the rive while smooth jazz played from open windows and young couples danced in the open streets. Now there was some real beauty, a time period I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget. Something about this city just stinks of dead ends and endless mundanity.”

“Domestic? My we really are scraping the bottom of the barrel for insults this week aren’t we mon chou.”
She was angry, or she was trying to avoid something, and he knew that likely it was avoiding her own issues once again. Lashing out wasn’t something irregular between the two of them, and this time it seemed she was going teeth first to try and get a reaction.
No matter, he had nothing to prove to her.
If she wanted to show some teeth he could easily match in vicious turn.
Long nails tapping on the glass before him, he would lift the cup to his lips and drink slowly before responding to her statements. “Then tell me, if you are so inclined, why when you have all this knowledge of what it means to be a successful Overlord have you been beating the same tired drum since your descent? It is so easy to insult others while maintaining the same comfortable status quo for ones self isn't it? So easy to insult me instead of facing up to your own insecurities.”
A low chuckle, the glass set down before he pushed himself to stand.
“Have I gotten too close to your prickly exterior for your liking? Burrowed myself a bit too deeply under that thick skin of yours? Maybe you’ve been presented with an emotion that you just can’t handle given that it’s outside of your tired comfort zone? Last I checked you weren’t interested in my latest projects and wished to be out of the loop, so how interesting to now be casting stones toward a glass house that you’ve put curtains around.
Very well, you and your relics may converse with the dust bunnies while civilization moves around you and you cling to the fear of anything getting too close. I can see that some things ought to stay the same in life as they did in death, nostalgia is a tricky bitch isn’t she? I’m sure you’ll see me on the picture show.”
With jacket adjusted, he would turn and simply walk without another word. He was in no mood for unpleasantries tonight, least of all from her.

Have I gone too far?
Mimzy knew she had overextended her stay within his good graces a time or two. Many more instances went unaccounted for, thanks to lack of self-awareness. One would think she’s learn a lesson not to yank his chain too hard.
Tonight though, whether it was a death wish or seeking a challenge, the flapper gets on her toes, glaring up at him.
“Maybe I don’t, but you are not who you once were. It’s a shame really. I remember you were vicious, all teeth and sharp ends. Now? I don’t know you and it’s disappointing to say the least.”
“All those Overlords you did in ought to be rolling in their graves, given how…domestic you’ve become as of late.”
Why was she complaining about this? In the past, hadn’t she wanted more of his time? For a drink, a chat or something more than fleeting meetings. The reason eluded her, but not wanting to back down, raised the stakes.
“I said it once, I’ll say it again, you are a shadow of your old self.”
