Effect of GST
The real estate market took a drastic turn when the goods and service tax was levied, along with the introduction of RERA and demonetization. The center has lowered the rate of goods and service tax for the property from 12% to 8%, and it might take a little while to adjust this new bump in the tax system. The finance minister Arun Jaitley had said that the real estate would be brought under this regime of GST, but he reported that the states weren’t in favor of petrol, diesel and real estate under the tax system of GST. The minister clearly stated that the states showed discord and disappointment, and hence this move wasn’t taken. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has been introduced for home purchase under CLSS scheme, to 8%, else home buyers would have to pay a higher tax amount.

In a meeting held, the council decided to extend the rates of the home buying procedure and make transactions easier for economically weaker sections of the society, like the lower income group, middle-income group and more. This concession has been extended by carpet area of at least 60 square meters. Jaitley also had announced that the real estate will definitely come under the jurisdiction community, and will be levied under this tax.
