in celebration of my return to this blog, i wanted to do a challenge / prompt series that really caters to my own writing interests. therefore, i would like to say, that these mini fics definitely will not be for everyone !! and that's okay !! i've taken six of my favourite / the most popular barry characters and over twelve days, will publish two fics for each of them. each fic is based on a goretober prompt selected randomly from a huge list i found. individual warnings will be posted with each mini fic, but here's the character and prompt schedule now to give you a little preview:

hello ! i know it’s been a while and i’m sorry for just sort of disappearing without a trace . i took some time away from the internet in general for multiple personal reasons . right before christmas my dog passed away very suddenly and i’ve been struggling to cope and get back to life without him . but i feel like i’m getting to the stage where i’d like some normality back now, and writing has always been an escape for me, so i’d really love to post some more here !!

okay indulge me for a moment here : an au with joe and reader based on sally rooney's 'normal people'

allow me to explain

(warnings for mentions of sex, but only briefly as these are just hcs)

- i honestly had this in my head while i wrote my other joe fic but i just didnt really elaborate enough to clarify it

- but like... you coming from a more privileged background but being weird and not really having friends at all

- and joe obviously not coming from the best background but being very popular and actually having lots of friends

- i honestly see it as one of those academic rivalry type things at first

- theres one subject you're both really good at and you sort of have this private competition going on between you about who can do better

- but you both always seem to get the exact same scores and never have a clear winner or loser

- you rarely ever speak because no one ever speaks to you at school

- but the one time you do speak is when he comes into the shop your family owns

- he doesnt know why he started going there, he could never afford any of the stuff because its all high end shit

- but you got him talking that first time, which surprised you both since joe isnt really much of a talker, not unless you know him really well

- and since then he just keeps coming back

- eventually, one day, after the tension builds up, and this weird rapport begins between you, you end up taking him to the storage room in the back and fucking him there

- it starts this affair of sorts between you, where he comes to you for sex and strangely deep chats about life and love and family

- and he then proceeds not to talk to you at all at school

- he cant tell if it actually bothers you. and he convinces himself he doesnt care

- you secretly feel a little smug

- if you wanted to (and you dont, but, if you really wanted to) you could just tell everyone that you and joe have been fucking in secret and their opinions of the both of you would change entirely

- probably

- maybe

- but you wouldnt do that to joe. from what hes told you things are hard enough outside of school and he needs all the support he can get from his friends

- though from what he tells you, they arent always the greatest of friends to him

i have lots more ideas so lmk if you want more hcs or a full fic of this concept... if not i just needed it out of my system lol

how about headcannons for him being soft for his girl only? like the contrast between devers family dympna and alone on a sunday morning or alone in the car dympna?

honestly so soft for dymp being all tough around his family and then all mushy with his s/o, he just needs to be taken care of </3

- we all know his usual personality is playful but very rough around the edges

- the devers have a rep to uphold and god knows dympna won't be the one to let them down in that aspect

- but things just get too much for him sometimes, he gets overwhelmed

- you would just bring out a softness in him that he never knew existed

- he feels this need to protect you, and sure, that brings out his more aggressive side when it concerns other people

- but majority of the time it just means he melts around you

- long hard days end in your arms

- you wait up for him in bed a lot, since he's usually out late on jobs or down the pub, drinking and playing pool

- and when he gets home, and he sees you sat up in your shared bed, covers resting on your waist, cozy in your pjs, maybe reading a book or watching something quietly on the telly... hes just gone

- he strips to his boxers and just climbs under the covers to snuggle you

- and when you laugh and stop whatever you were doing to give him a little head pat or a kiss on the cheek, he just mumbles how much he loves you and settles down for bed

- its those quiet little moments that truly let you know that hes yours

- because you'll see him being tough and angry with the rest of the family, or with other people in the village, etc. but he is only ever soft and pliant and open and sweet with you

- the comment in the film abt dymp going and getting his little dye job done ?? (which honestly was quite funny. got a little laugh outta me i have to admit)

- you definitely do that for him.

- youve got the gloves on and a towel over your lap too

- hes got his head slightly tipped back and your just smoothing the bleach down, and hes making these little noises that are absolutely ridiculous and you cant hold your laughs in

- i imagine him catching glances of you in the mirror as you're oh so focused on what you're doing

- and he just thinks abt how lucky he is to have you

- and you guys lock the door when you do this so that its like your little time to just joke around and be together

- you make many jokes about charging him a salon fee for your hard work and though he knows you're joking there is definitely some sort of present waiting for you on your bed the next day from him

- fuck and dont even get me started on like sunday mornings

- its like just you guys and his sisters at home ?

- and dympna makes breakfast for all of you

- you come down and eat together, and then they go down their own thing, and you and dymp go back to bed with your cups of tea and a cheeky biscuit

- and you cuddle, maybe you read to him, or watch something together

- and you don't talk about work, etc bc its just not important in those moments

- all in all he is so soft for you and you only <33
