rub your eyes, be surprised, keep hungry
the cynic. they have seen too much of the ugly side of power and wealth to really fully embrace it or the world at large. their family is a rags to riches back to rags and back to riches kind of family. everyone knows who they are and the entire history of their family and their money. seems everyone seems to also know about the endless amounts of affairs that cynic’s parents had as well. it’s messy and frustrating that everyone at st. eton’s seems to enjoy talking about just how dysfunctional the cynic’s family is.
while at st. eton, their family’s name is why they were brought into the inside circle with the rest. for the most part, the cynic doesn’t mind their friends and the mischief they tend to get caught up in. still, the cynic knows that most of them are going to follow in their parents footsteps anyway and probably won’t make that much of a difference. trying to find some good in the world really isn’t what the cynic is good at. they know the next steps in their life is college and they plan on applying more than one ivy in order to follow the route given to them. they aren’t exactly the happiest of people but they are making due. it’s senior year after all.
stay alive and try to lose all your money
highs and lows is the best way to explain the cynic’s and hunter clarington’s relationship. when hunter was in a good mood, the cynic was often annoyed and not interested in whatever mess he was making. when hunter was upset, the cynic could enjoy and relish his misery. it’s not the best relationship on earth. still his murder is even a little too dark for the cynic and he is not exactly feeling that great about the eyes cast on the inner circle.
