I think I'm gonna let Gregory sleep for a couple days and see if that will revitalize him. I've been struggling with him quite a bit and I have a number of threads I really NEED to respond to but he's just refused to move for.

I also need to just... really figure out how to tap into him again because I've been pushing him into the same box and it's not working. Maybe do some retrospective study on his character, really mull over his personality and motivations and desires.

Cause I think I've been writing him on fumes when I should be writing with a full tank.

Ultimately, I'm the one that got to this point and I need to figure out how to get out.

My motivation for Gregory really is at an all time low right now...

Which upsets me cause he's my longest running comfort character and I don't want him to go to sleep again. But lately I've felt so... stuck in a corner with him.

I don't feel like I've been able to use him at his full potential for a while, he keeps getting pushed into the same box.

Gregory is actually pretty skilled in makeup. This is because he's been in theater since he was a kid and would volunteer to help the makeup department if they were running on too few people. He's studied the best way to use the stuff, most of his experience from trial and error.

He also just uses a fairly light amount of it for himself, mostly eyeliner.

This is trickier. He knows the BASICS of childcare... like he would know how to warm a bottle or change a diaper if he needed to. But he can be kind of awkward around kids and doesn't quite know how to play all that well... but he tries.

There's a sharp series of stinging pain and heat as his flesh is torn. Whoever set this trap was a terrible fucking shot because Gregory could tell only one bullet had actually struck him. Jumping to shove Mole up against the wall had been instinct, a drive to protect someone important to him. Better him than Christophe's head. There's a heaving breath as the brunet asks him to do something, anything, to relay that he was okay.

Gloved fingers twitch against the wall and the heat of blood running down his face registers next; one of the bullets must have grazed him.

"... Lets get moving before any more go off. We need to abort."

There's a bullet lodged just above his hip and blood running down his face. Gregory is no longer in any condition to carry on with this mission, it would be wiser to retreat. Retreat was a blow to their side but better to endure and try later than wind up dead in the bottom of a fucking pit. Shoving away, the Brit grabs hold of Mole's arm and pulls to get him moving.

They had to go.

A little grunt escapes him, being caught off guard the moment his old friend pins him against the wall. Did Grantaire do something wrong?

"Gregory, what in the actual--" He was cut off at the sound of bullets coming from each side. Before Grantaire could even yell his friend's name and warn him, Grantaire had realized that the two had walked into a trap.

It was Grantaire's fault for leading them into this trap, though it was never his intention. Grantaire should have known better to not even tag along with Gregory otherwise Grantaire would only get in the way and burden him.

Were they going to die here? Was this going to be the end of them? Was Grantaire going to die with regret?

When the sounds of gunshots were over, Grantaire panted, soon realizing that Gregory was only protecting him from the gunshots. But... what about Gregory himself?

It didn't take Grantaire too long to notice Gregory was bleeding. Grantire's eyes widened, fearing he was going to lose his one and only friend he cherished so much if Gregory's wounds weren't going to be treated right away.

"Say something... Or do something..."

The former assassin was truly rusty at this job now. Eversince he had made his stay in France, he swore upon his own literal grave as Christophe that he would never go back to this life again. But here he was on one of those dangerous missions with Gregory as if they were reliving old times, and Grantaire was beginning to regret tagging along.

Gregory... is at a bit of a loss.

A crowd he could stir up, a group he could lead, a circle of people he could communicate with. One on one interaction was harder, more awkward... especially with just one person. Despite what others might think, Gregory had very few friends. The number could be counted on a single hand and his experience in helping those friends with their emotions was even less.

So when he had found Pip crying, of all things, the Brit had a bit of an internal panic trying to figure out what to do here. It wasn't like he had to deal with Mole crying, which was a rarity in of itself, and the only one he's ever had to comfort was himself... and even at that he wasn't very good!

"Ah... okay, okay..." still he tries to be comforting, carefully pulling the shorter blond into a hug and offering a place for him to both cry and hide if he felt like it. Why was Pip crying? No idea, that part was vague to him and maybe he would be told when his friend calmed down. Not that Pip HAD to tell him.

"It could be worse... it could be raining baguettes again..."

This was an ATTEMPT. And that weird shit happened last week, something about a bread factory a town over blowing up and the force sending bread over to South Park.

Fucking weird town.
