idk what traumatized or mentally ill person needs to hear this but dreams (especially the really disturbing ones you dont want to talk about to anybody) arent some deep peek into your psyche or a sign of your True Desires or whatever theyre quite literally your brain making fruit salad with whatever it can find on the shelf. just putting all that shit in a blender and hitting obliterate. its fine, youre fine, youre not a weirdo for it

Text translation:
"Ran khokly (slur for Ukrainians) from their home in Mariupol, and now I'm sitting and resting on my yard. Thank you russian soldiers for such an opportunity. Glory to Russia"
These is yet another example of an ordinary russian person who has nothing to do with politics, just casually moves in into a home of a Ukrainian family who (best case scenario) fled their home.

I think something history Tumblr would benefit from understanding is that for every person who’s irrationally obsessed with a historical figure to the point of bending their perceptions of them to be entirely positive, there’s also a person who’s irrationally obsessed with hating them just because they think it’s cool to reject what’s been taught to them—when the real problem is not solely that only the good side of these figures is taught, but also that only one side is taught in the first place.
And like, I’m glad we’re moving away from blindly idolizing historical figures, genuinely. But there’s a big difference between hating a historical figure for what they did and what they believed in, and hating a historical figure just because it’s fun to do. The problem lies not in people hating historical figures but in when they make it their entire purpose of engaging with history. People are entitled to having feelings about history and I think it’s entirely warranted to hate certain figures—you can find something to hate about almost any person in history and I’m never going to tell you not to because you should, in fact, condemn those things. But as with anything, there are always people who just… like to hate things, and that seems to be the only reason why they ever engage with it. At that point I simply question why one would claim an interest in history if only to hate it so much.

You know why we read picture books to kids? To teach them how to see the world.
You know why learning how to analyse fictional books is a school subject? Because it helps us learn how these authors saw the world, why and it can help us understand how we see the world and what books guided us toward that thinking.
If you understand why you think something, it’s easier for you to then decide if you want to hold onto those beliefs, and where people are coming from when they ask you to let go of certain beliefs.
You can interact with problematic media, and sometimes it’s really good to break it down see where it went wrong and why. It’s like a science experiment. Good to dissect it and analyse it, not so good to mindlessly consume it.
Try to be critical of the books you read, it opens up a whole new world and gives you more power over your mind.
You can read the book, but also the author, their time period, your time period. It’s like getting extra books out of one it’s amazing.

ok it’s true there are some fanfics that are brilliant but these are not ‘books’ im gna need ppl to stop slapping that title on to every mf piece of writing they come across that they felt moved by even a little and how do they alwayssss always manage to cite the bible and Dante’s inferno as examples of ‘published fanfiction’ 😭😭😭😭😭

not so friendly reminder with diwali coming up that the swastika (swuhs-theek-ahh) is of vedic origin, and it's a symbol of well-being, auspiciousness, and prosperity in hinduism, jainism, and buddhism. it's still common in nepal, mongolia, china, japan, and, most famously, india.
it's been around since 500 BC, and germany appropriated it, making it a symbol of hate.
the symbol on the right? THIS is not offensive. it's stolen culture. please be fully informed before you make any accusations this upcoming holiday season.

I’ve seen a lot of posts from fellow Jews about how hard it feels to observe Pesach this year, how it even feels wrong while there are Jews being held in captivity right now.
I would argue that’s the very point of Pesach, and observing it has never been more appropriate than it is now.
The first Seder was not a celebration of a victory already won. The first Seder was held by the Jews while we were still in Egypt, while we were all still enslaved, huddled inside with lambs blood on our doorposts. We were anticipating imminent departure from Egypt, but it hadn’t happened yet and we had no way of knowing if it would.
Pesach is not an after-the-fact celebration of finally being out of danger. The origin of the Seder is a deliberately premature celebration, a demonstration that we have so much faith in G-d saving us that we act as if it’s already happened.
We don’t have the Seder because we are finally free. We have the Seder as a show of faith that we will be, no matter how unlikely it seems.

Good morning! I’m salty.
I think we, as a general community, need to start taking this little moment more seriously.
This, right here? This is asking for consent. It’s a legal necessity, yes, but it is also you, the reader, actively consenting to see adult content; and in doing so, saying that you are of an age to see it, and that you’re emotionally capable of handling it.
You find the content you find behind this warning disgusting, horrifying, upsetting, triggering? You consented. You said you could handle it, and you were able to back out at any time. You take responsibility for yourself when you click through this, and so long as the creator used warnings and tags correctly, you bear full responsibility for its impact on you.
“Children are going to lie about their age” is probably true, but that’s the problem of them and the people who are responsible for them, not the people that they lie to.
If you’re not prepared to see adult content, created by and for adults, don’t fucking click through this. And if you do, for all that’s holy, don’t blame anyone else for it.
