reblog and make a wish! this was removed from tumbrl due to ā€œviolating one or more of Tumblrā€™s Community Guidelinesā€, but since my wish came true the first time, Iā€™m putting it back. :)

Ok but like. What the fuck is there to do on the internet anymore?
Idk when I was younger, you could just go and go and find exciting new websites full of whatever cool things you wanted to explore. An overabundance of ways to occupy your time online.
Now, itā€™s justā€¦ Social media. Thatā€™s it. Social media and news sites. And Iā€™m tired of social media and Iā€™m tired of the news.
Am I just like completely inept at finding new things or has the internet just fallen apart that much with the problems of SEO and web 3.0 turning everything into a same-site prison?

now that the booping spree is over, iā€™d like to remind yall that that same amount of engagement is desired for writers and artists and creators.
the reblog button is essentially the same fucking thing, so not seeing anyone engage seemingly by choice is really disheartening.

Things That May Be Causing Your Writer's Block- and How to Beat Them
I don't like the term 'Writer's Block' - not because it isn't real, but because the term is so vague that it's useless. Hundreds of issues all get lumped together under this one umbrella, making writer's block seem like this all-powerful boogeyman that's impossible to beat. Worse yet, it leaves people giving and receiving advice that is completely ineffective because people often don't realize they're talking about entirely different issues.
In my experience, the key to beating writer's block is figuring out what the block even is, so I put together a list of Actual Reasons why you may be struggling to write:
(note that any case of writer's block is usually a mix of two or more)
Perfectionism (most common)
What it looks like:
You write one sentence and spend the next hour googling "synonyms for ___"
Write. Erase. Write. Rewrite. Erase.
Should I even start writing this scene when I haven't figured out this one specific detail yet?
I hate everything I write
Cringing while writing
My first draft must be perfect, or else I'm a terrible writer
Things that can help:
Give yourself permission to suck
Keep in mind that nothing you write is going to be perfect, especially your first draft
Think of writing your first/early drafts not as writing, but sketching out a loose foundation to build upon later
People write multiple drafts for a reason: write now, edit later
Stop googling synonyms and save that for editing
Write with a pen to reduce temptation to erase
Embrace leaving blank spaces in your writing when you can't think of the right word, name, or detail
It's okay if your writing sucks. We all suck at some point. Embrace the growth mindset, and focus on getting words on a page
Lack of inspiration (easiest to fix)
What it looks like:
Head empty, no ideas
What do I even write about???
I don't have a plot, I just have an image
Want to write but no story to write
Things that can help:
Google writing prompts
If writing prompts aren't your thing, instead try thinking about what kind of tropes/genres/story elements you would like to try out
Instead of thinking about the story you would like to write, think about the story you would like to read, and write that
It's okay if you don't have a fully fleshed out story idea. Even if it's just an image or a line of dialogue, it's okay to write that. A story may or may not come out of it, but at least you got the creative juices flowing
Stop writing. Step away from your desk and let yourself naturally get inspired. Go for a walk, read a book, travel, play video games, research history, etc. Don't force ideas, but do open up your mind to them
If you're like me, world-building may come more naturally than plotting. Design the world first and let the story come later
Boredom/Understimulation (lost the flow)
What it looks like:
I know I should be writing but uugggghhhh I just can'tttttt
Writing words feels like pulling teeth
I started writing, but then I got bored/distracted
I enjoy the idea of writing, but the actual process makes me want to throw my laptop out the window
Things that can help:
Introduce stimulation: snacks, beverages, gum, music such as lo-fi, blankets, decorate your writing space, get a clickity-clackity keyboard, etc.
Add variety: write in a new location, try a new idea/different story for a day or so, switch up how you write (pen and paper vs. computer) or try voice recording or text-to-speech
Gamify writing: create an arbitrary challenge, such as trying to see how many words you can write in a set time and try to beat your high score
Find a writing buddy or join a writer's group
Give yourself a reward for every writing milestone, even if it's just writing a paragraph
Ask yourself whether this project you're working on is something you really want to be doing, and be honest with your answer
Intimidation/Procrastination (often related to perfectionism, but not always)
What it looks like:
I was feeling really motivated to write, but then I opened my laptop
I don't even know where to start
I love writing, but I can never seem to get started
I'll write tomorrow. I mean next week. Next month? Next month, I swear (doesn't write next month)
Can't find the time or energy
Unreasonable expectations (I should be able to write 10,000 words a day, right????)
Feeling discouraged and wondering why I'm even trying
Things that can help:
Follow the 2 min rule (or the 1 paragraph rule, which works better for me): whenever you sit down to write, tell yourself that you are only going to write for 2 minutes. If you feel like continuing once the 2 mins are up, go for it! Otherwise, stop. Force yourself to start but DO NOT force yourself to continue unless you feel like it. The more often you do this, the easier it will be to get started
Make getting started as easy as possible (i.e. minimize barriers: if getting up to get a notebook is stopping you from getting started, then write in the notes app of your phone)
Commit to a routine that will work for you. Baby steps are important here. Go with something that feels reasonable: every day, every other day, once a week, twice a week, and use cues to help you remember to start. If you chose a set time to write, just make sure that it's a time that feels natural to you- i.e. don't force yourself to writing at 9am every morning if you're not a morning person
Find a friend or a writing buddy you can trust and talk it out or share a piece of work you're proud of. Sometimes we just get a bit bogged down by criticism- either internal or external- and need a few words of encouragement
The Problem's Not You, It's Your Story (or Outline (or Process))
What it looks like:
I have no problems writing other scenes, it's just this scene
I started writing, but now I have no idea where I'm going
I don't think I'm doing this right
What's an outline?
Drowning in documents
This. Doesn't. Make. Sense. How do I get from this plot point to this one?!?!?! (this ColeyDoesThings quote lives in my head rent free cause BOY have I been there)
Things That Can Help:
Go back to the drawing board. Really try to get at the root of why a scene or story isn't working
A part of growing as a writer is learning when to kill your darlings. Sometimes you're trying to force an idea or scene that just doesn't work and you need to let it go
If you don't have an outline, write one
If you have an outline and it isn't working, rewrite it, or look up different ways to structure it
You may be trying to write as a pantser when you're really a plotter or vice versa. Experiment with different writing processes and see what feels most natural
Study story structures, starting with the three act structure. Even if you don't use them, you should know them
Check out Ellen Brock on YouTube. She's a professional novel editor who has a lot of advice on writing strategies for different types of writers
Also check out Savage Books on YouTube (another professional story editor) for advice on story structure and dialogue. Seriously, I cannot recommend this guy enough
Executive Dysfunction, Usually From ADHD/Autism
What it looks like:
Everything in boredom/understimulation
Everything in intimidation/procrastination
You have been diagnosed with and/or have symptoms of ADHD/Autism
Things that can help:
If you haven't already, seek a diagnosis or professional treatment
Hire an ADHD coach or other specialist that can help you work with your brain (I use Shimmer; feel free to DM me for a referral)
Seek out neurodiverse and neurodiverse writing communities for advice and support
Try body doubling! There's lot's of free online body doubling websites out there for you to try. If social anxiety is a barrier, start out with writing streams such as katecavanaughwrites on Twitch
Be aware of any sensory barriers that may be getting in the way of you writing (such as an uncomfortable desk chair, harsh lighting, bad sounds)
And Lastly, Burnout, Depression, or Other Mental Illness
What it looks like:
You have symptoms of burnout or depression
Struggling with all things, not just writing
It's more than a lack of motivation- the spark is just dead
Things that can help:
Forget writing for now. Focus on healing first.
Seek professional help
If you feel like it, use writing as a way to explore your feelings. It can take the form of journaling, poetry, an abstract reflection of your thoughts, narrative essays, or exploring what you're feeling through your fictional characters. The last two helped me rediscover my love of writing after I thought years of depression had killed it for good. Just don't force yourself to do so, and stop if it takes you to a darker place instead of feeling cathartic

Yes, Ao3 is down because of a cybersecurity attack.
Yes, the group is claiming to be Sudanese Muslims (Sudan Anonymous). No, this is not true.
This group has been identified as a Russian hacker group intent on sowing dissent between the world under the guise of ā€œstrengthening Middle East relationsā€. They targeted Ao3 because of its pro-LGBTQIA+ stories. Again, they are Russians sowing anger.
Do NOT be Islamophobic. Do NOT use this as an opportunity to whine about how you didnā€™t have time to finish reading a fic.
Ao3 is run by volunteers who are currently under siege by Russian hackers. Take this time to step back from the site, appreciate their work, write your own fics, or read a physical book.
If I see ANY Islamophobic rhetoric by any of my followers, I will pop your dumbass into my shit list and block you into the high heavens.

Friend, you are in luck. As a polyamorous person, Iā€™m always looking for more stories that include good poly representation! So first, weā€™re going to dig into some information about what poly is and what it isnā€™t, go over some vocabulary, and discuss how polyamorous relationships function in the real world, and then Iā€™ll get into some dons and donā€™ts for writing polyamorous relationships. ā†Ŗ š‘©š‘Øš‘µš‘«š‘¬š‘¹š‘ŗš‘µš‘Øš‘»š‘Ŗš‘Æ . ( a collection of sentence starters from black mirror's episode bandersnatch . adjust phrasing as necessary . )
here's your tea .
sorry , i was miles away .
this is my latest .
listen , let's get down to business .
got a copy of this at home , never got around to reading it .
how do you want to go about this ?
you're ... you're interested ?
it's just that it's all in my head .
when it's a concept piece , a bit of madness is what you need .
what do you listen to ? to get into the flow .
so ... how does it work , then ?
is that the best way to work on something like this ?
nothing's perfect .
it was too ... too good to be true .
i don't know where it came from , i just said "no" .
would you like to talk about what happened with [ name ] ?
come on , [ name ] , we're going to be late .
you couldn't have known . [ name ] , you couldn't have known .
i fucking hate him for it .
the past is immutable , [ name ] .
remember- any time you need me , just pick up the phone .
is everything alright ?
you've been stuck in your room for weeks .
i can't help you if you just sit there and don't speak !
[ name ] , just ... fuck off !
you're not sleeping , you're not eating ... i'm concerned about you .
you're in the hole . in a fight with your own head .
you got anywhere to be later ?
oh , i haven't ever really -
one for you ... one for me .
it's your choice . totally up to you , don't feel pressured .
just thought i'd give you the choice .
what have you done ?
i chose for you . are you okay with that ?
people think there's one reality , but there's loads of them .
people think you can't go back and change things , but you can .
it's a fucking nightmare world , and the worst thing is it's real and we're living in it
i've given you the knowledge . i've set you free . do you understand ?
i'll show you what i mean . come with me .
do you believe me ? i'll prove it .
it wouldn't matter , because there are other timelines .
you'd die ... you'd die !
see you on the other side .
[ name ] , maybe ... you're not well .
my head is all over the place . i keep having vivid dreams .
don't see this as a setback .
just ... don't . fuck . up . there's a lot riding on this , now .
[ name ] wanted me to give you this .
your fate has been dictated . it's out of your hands .
you're just a puppet . you're not in control .
who's doing this to me ? i know there's someone there .
i know there's someone there , just give me a fucking sign !
i'm not in control ... i'm not in control . i'm being controlled .
what do i do ?
[ name ] , spit it out .
fuckin' hell , you've gone right down the hole .
so . are you gonna let me go , or are you gonna kill me ?
i'm quite enjoying this lifetime .
i know what you've been doing to me .
try again .

THE TWENTY FIRST OF AUDE AT THE IMPERIAL OPERA HOUSE. open to @lafailleā€‹
the box sheā€™s been assigned is different from her usual, but even rosalind has to admit itā€™s a clear improvement.Ā the view is spectacular, encompassing the whole opera house and stage, a perfect birdā€™s-eye view of the show. the satisfied purr of a cat pouncing on its prey creeps up her throat, and rosalind lets it loose as her lips curl proudly. finally, her value is being recognized with a seat worthy of her station. her talent has been noticed, her efforts have not been in vain and the empress will eventually admit that she made the wrong choice. if this gets back to alain, then perhaps rosalind can leverage it somehow ā€” another estate, perhaps, or a seat at the table that will certainly spread across and beyond celestine.Ā
her fantasies consume her, devour her in one greedy swallow before rosalind realizes she is being swept away. she imagines jewels around her neck, rings that weigh more than a sack of dor on every finger, her lips pink and coiled as her lost twin sister returns at last. she imagines a different lover for every night and a feast that goes half-consumed before gallons of ale and wine are emptied. her stomach turns and turns and turns in anticipation, in a hot rush of want like a fever.
Tumblr media
rosalindā€™s fantasies snap shut when she walks in, and rosalind canā€™t help the immediate twist of scorn and envy and the lingering smoke of desire on her features.Ā ā€œhave you no decency?ā€ she snaps at cecile, eyes traveling across her rivalā€™s elegant attire and choice of jewels.Ā ā€œyou must ruin my night with your horrible taste and company?ā€

Conflicting Ship Plots
they are competitors - the same job, the same championship, etc.
they are straight-up enemies - one themĀ wants to buy the land to build a resort, and the other wants it to get turned into a nature sanctuary. one is a defense attorney, and the other is a prosecutor. theyā€™re soldiers on opposing sides of the war, etc.
they already won - they inherited an estate that should have been the otherā€™s, or one got the job that the other was hoping to be promoted into, and they are seething.
they broke their heart in the past - maybe there was a good reason behind it, or maybe they were an idiot then and realize it now.Ā
they did the other wrong in the past - maybe they wronged the otherā€™s family member or friend.Ā
they have has trust issues - their last relationship ended in a terrible betrayal.
they have intimacy issues - maybe because of a traumatic past, they feel too vulnerable if anyone knows about their real emotions or weaknesses. maybe theyā€™re a psychic, a behavioral expert, or just the one person who can see right through the other and it makes them uncomfortable as hell.
they donā€™t trust their dating choices - theyā€™ve gotten involved with several losers in a row, and theyā€™re taking a break, maybe a permanent one.
they believe no one can truly love them - they made a terrible mistake in the past, or theyā€™re not attractive in the conventional manner.
they are good friends - they donā€™t want to risk ruining their friendship by taking it to the next level.
they are co-workers - they donā€™t want to make things weird at the office, restaurant, or wherever they both work.
they are freaked out by who they really are - a werewolf, vampire, ex-con, spy, etc.
it was supposed to be sex only - they were going to be friends with benefits, or maybe one of them is an escort. falling in love goes against the original arrangement.
their love was supposed to be fake - they were pretending to be in love or married, or they entered a marriage of convenience.Ā
they were faking it at first - they made a bet that they could bed the other, or pretended to like the other so they could learn their darkest secrets.
they have moral qualms - one of them is the otherā€™s boss, their teacher, their captor, ex-girlfriend or their best friend, and that gives them pause.
they are struggling with personal issues - one of them is grieving the death of their significant other, best friend, their child, or they have PTSD from battle or some other terrible experience.
their love is forbidden by others - itā€™s against the rules, spoken or unspoken, of their family, organization, community, or religion.
they are into something that the other doesnā€™t like - it could be an addiction, like alcohol, drugs, gambling, or a profession, like boxing or defending corrupt clients in court. whatever it is, the other wants no part of it.
their cultures clash -Ā one of them is a rock-n-roller and the other is aĀ  business executive, or they love the city life and the other is all about small-town living.
one of them is promised to someone else - maybe the weddingā€™s already planned and everything. they might have reasons for going through with a loveless marriage.
one of them is married to someone else - it is some weird legal, not-consummated arrangement, or the other ran away long ago because their spouse was an abusive asshole.
they are infatuated with someone else instead of them - they donā€™t realize yet that this other person is awful.
they are interested in someone else in addition to them - theyā€™re having trouble making a decision on who to be with.
their time is together is limited - one of them is going abroad to study in the fall, their work visa is almost up, or one of them is about to go on a space mission to another planet, never to return.
being together would require a big sacrifice - one of them would have to say no to their dream job or they would have to move away from their family.
they are a danger to the otherā€™s safety - theyā€™re a spy, vampire, drug lord, gang leader, etc.
they think theyā€™ll only make the other unhappy - theyā€™re dying of a disease, suffering under a curse, canā€™t have children, etc.
they are a suspect - in a murder or robbery case.
they have a reputation - a materialistic douche, a heartless womanizer, a stone cold killer, etc.
they have terrible first impressions of one another - they might have gotten off to an awful start by arguing over something.
they love their freedom - they always saw themselves as the carefree type who would never settle down.
they donā€™t want distractions - one of them has a very important job to do, and they canā€™t afford to get sidetracked.

*Ā normaltothemaxā€‹ : MOON KNIGHT / CAN YOU TELL I HAVE ADHD ?
Now he was certain: this was definitely some sort of punishment.
God, sheā€™s making him feel so old. Marc has no idea what song sheā€™s referring to, but he at least manages to refrain from mentioning how confused he really is. Itā€™s a good thing Jake isnā€™t listening in, too. The alter already calls him an old man, half the time. If he hears about how lost Marc is while discussing some Flo RidaĀ songā€”which, what the hell kind of name even isĀ that?ā€”Marc will never hear the end of it. Instead of actually responding with wordsā€”like a normal, human person, Steven chidesā€”he grunts in return, deeming that to be good enough.
Heā€™s once again struck by how frigginā€™ tinyĀ she is when she plants herself in front of him, hand outstretched.Ā Iā€™m Ms. Marvel, she says. Cool to meet you, she says. Sheā€™s just a kid, thinks Marc for the thousandth time. Reluctantly, he takes her little hand in his own, dwarfing it, and shakes, holding on for a moment too long, when his eyes land on her bracelet.
ā€˜Itā€™s a bangle.ā€™
He sighs, feeling a headache coming on already. Whatever it was called, the thing had some sort of inscription on it, the language looking somewhat similar to Arabic. Urdu, if Marc had to guess, though he couldnā€™t read what it said. Regardless, the sight of it sets Steven off, has him practically bouncing around in their skull with excitement, absolutely certainĀ they were looking at some sort of artifact.Ā ā€˜Just lookĀ at it, Marc!ā€™ Oh, heā€™s looking, alright.
Releasing her, he starts digging around the room, picking through piles of stuffĀ in the hopes that heā€™ll find something worthwhile. Something usefulĀ to the case. Any sort of lead at all, at this point.Ā ā€œKnock yourself out. Sā€™long as you donā€™t set something off that erases the entire hard drive.ā€ If she couldnā€™t figure it out, heā€™d bring it with him back to the Mission. See if Reese or Soldier could get anything off of it.
Moving to a large bookshelf against one of the walls, he scans the titles written on their spines. Something is here, he canĀ feel it. He tugs at a few of the spines, tilting the books towards him, though nothing happens. Yet. With any luck, thereā€™ll be some sort of secret room with all the evidence he needs hidden behind it all.Ā ā€œSo whatā€™s with the bangle?ā€ he asks, taking a step back to take in the bookshelf as a whole. Heā€™s not trying to make conversation. Heā€™s just asking so that Steven will shut up about it, already.Ā ā€œThe writingā€¦Urdu, right?ā€

instead of arguing for her competence , for the first time in this whole interaction kamala opts to simply give him a thumbs up . she figures that sheā€™s given him enough grief ( for now ) .Ā
ā huh ?Ā  oh , this thing ! āž eyes glance down at her bangle with a mix of surprise and fondness . the bangle itself holds many memories , stories untold , and mystery that even kamala herself doesnā€™t know . itā€™s been a partial key in the investigation not only of herself , but the one involving these disappearances . the coincidence of that is so odd that she and bruno have theorized it may not be one at all ; though still , theyā€™ve been unable to figure any plausible theories as to what it has to do with any of this . her typing pauses , one hand subconsciously wringing her wrist as she looks it over .Ā
ā good eye ā€“ we think so , but ā€¦ iā€™m kinda better at speaking urdu than reading it ; first gen american stuff , yā€™know ?Ā  it belonged to my grandma . actually , itā€™s kinda funny that you mention it , though . āž the girl muses , fingers brushing the intricate details adorning the metal bangle .
ā remember how i said the dormant gene was randomly triggered ? āž the memories following the first time kamala had worn it play in her mind like a clichĆ© cartoon recap . truthfully sheā€™s a little hesitant to recount the tale to him entirely ; incredulity of those events aside , moon knight has already shown heā€™s wary of her credibility . some element leaking out of a bangle and causing an egg form around doesnā€™t particularly sound realistic even if itā€™s the truth . focus becomes split between the conversation and the laptop ā€“ she doesnā€™t wait for him to respond . ā well , when i put it on for the first time , the bangle glowed this really pretty purple and pink and blue and then this mist started coming out of it ! āž
one hand lifts to wiggle fingers in the air as if to mimic the very movement of the aforementioned ; it quickly returns back to the laptop to properly resume her task . regardless , she continues , ā at first i thought it was an isolated event . like some weird super dust , but uh ā€¦ when me and my friend snooped . we found that there was some trace of whatever element the mist was in EVERY disappearance . i donā€™t know how my bangle factors into all this , but we think that alchemax discovered the gene and has been ā€“ wait . āžĀ Ā
almost like on tv , kamala pauses at the climax of their theory and story . eyes become glued to the screen and suddenly , with tongue stuck out , she digs a hand into a hidden pocket to retrieve an iron man usb . she quickly plugs it into the laptop and begins to type even faster . there are a number of files that seem to be encrypted on the lone memory of the device rather than a cloud , thankfully . itā€™s with that stroke of luck kamalaā€™s able to run the decryption program that she and bruno collaborated on . even with their brilliance and the strength of the processor , it still goes slow . one by one certain documents become available to her .Ā
thereā€™s not much of an abundance of information on it , which is as sheā€™d suspected but not what she HOPED . at least now they have access to medical documents with minimum notes of people already in their custody . it makes her heart DROP seeing each photo ; the victims range wildly from middle schoolers to the elderly . kamalaā€™s nose scrunches before looking back at the bright white figure roaming the room . she blinks ,Ā ā sorry . uh , i found some profiles of the people missing ā€¦ what was i saying ? āž
