Where to…? We’re looking for weird stuff to document. It might be easier to spot weird things where there’s usually nothing, right? So… Mt. Silver? I think it’s empty up there… and if there is anything unusual it should be easy to spot… like finding meteorites in the snow.

Yeah… Yeah, let’s check Mt. Silver first. Gotta start somewhere.

You select Camera 05, and the display comes to fully present itself on the central computer.

It seems like the drone is currently settled in a cave, hidden from the harsh weather conditions as to not be lost in the snow... Piloting it forward is as easy as pressing a few commands on the keyboard.

Thus, you begin to survey the mountain.

You notice, as you move onwards, that it already seems to be rather high up- it makes sense, though. The remote access wouldn't be necessary for a lower part of the range, given the proximity of the lab.

And it seems the only direction to go is up.

Onwards, seeing nothing of note except rocks, snow, and wild Pokemon, until the view emerges from the final cavern before the peak, a n d-

.

...?

Now that we’ve come back to the “for your own good arguement”

I can read some of these asks, they really are just abusive rhetoric stuff and I have to wounder if people realise how terrifying they sound

I really want to think up something nice for Cody to give them a break

i know right, holy cow, cody's askers get intense sometimes...

i think it is incredibly wild that cody will state what their wants and needs are, and certain players will be like, "but what if you're wrong actually? what if this is all your fault for being complacent with your trauma because you won't expose yourself to the things that traumatized you in the first place? what if we have to force you to conquer your fears against your will for you to be happy?"

as if violating the boundaries of the person who's forced to spend the rest of their life with you is in any way a good thing that they will ever forgive or thank you for, even if they DID somehow manage to accomplish what those players are asking them to do.

cody's ideal happy ending was just to spend their life with you, with complete trust that you would never hurt them or force them to do anything they didn't want to do, and that ending was violently taken away from them by people who wanted to hurt them. whether that desire to hurt them is out of pure sadistic malice, or some twisted idea of "the greater good", it doesn't make a difference to cody...

of course, i trust that these askers are just playing devil's advocate and the role of the antagonist for the sake of making a compelling story, and aren't truly abusive people in real life. i'm thankful for those askers, because they certainly accomplished that! this story wouldn't be what it is, without them.

that said, i would like to give cody a breather in the near future. it won't come without more drama first, though...

ah. i love how you draw the eyes. a little funny fake-observation i made though, i like how even though the ghosts and cody don’t really have pupils, the shading in thier edges of thier eyes can give the illusion that they are which i think is really cool! you dont know exactly where theyre staring, sometimes but like. blastoise could be looking away from the screen. but the shading makes it seem like eyes just looking at the player through the corner of his eye. just something that i see when i read!

ah! thank you for noticing that! that's actually something i started doing as the blog went on, because i realized that blank white eyes make it really hard to tell exactly where a character is looking. especially for moments like your example with blastoise, it's a lot more expressive when you can see that the character is looking back at you even when their back is turned away from you.

I'm usually way too shy to do asks but I HAVE to gush about pkmn-monochrome it is SO good, especially this last "arc" so to speak

Cody's expressions and the DIALOGUE are TOP NOTCH. You do an amazing job of setting the scene and showcasing the characters' complex emotions, and the different ways they emote.

The subtle details of Cody shaking and the tears during the last few asks.... ow my heart. Seeing poor Cody suffering so much HURTS

Watching Cody smile at the screen while crying and defying the player when they ask how the hacker died even if Cody knows the player LITERALLY has their life in their hands.... DAMN.

Creepypasta type things never really caught my eye, but this one might be bringing me in to the genre as a whole. Bravo, really! I started reading at around when Blastoise was caught, and I've been enjoying the series since.

...unrelated side note: I know for a fact if I was one of the players, I would just have the Game Boy open next to me as I work on things and talk with Cody as I work XD

Though I don't know how weird it would be for them to watch me code, considering their whole existence XD

thank you so much!! i'm glad you're enjoying this part of the story so much! it's definitely been a struggle for me to reach this point but it's really starting to come together for me!

this is definitely a major low point for cody - the terrifying realization has hit them that the players are running out of things to see, which could mean that cody's life could be coming to an end very soon. so, they're using whatever they can to bargain for their survival. they're using the hacker's death as leverage, trying to argue that players won't be satisfied with killing them if they don't "solve the mystery" first. but they know there's someone who won't keep their secrets for them, and cody is desperately trying anything they can to keep that fact off of everyone's minds by doing anything else that their players ask of them.

it's genuinely sad, seeing them reduced to such a low point that they're essentially saying, "please don't do anything else to me, i'll do whatever you say", but all people want is to see how this ends.

on that unrelated note, cody would actually be surprisingly helpful with coding! they understand quite a bit of it, so they'd be a pretty good rubber duck to read your code out to if you were running into issues with it. they'd definitely feel a bit weird about helping you code a game, though…

do you make cody's songs yourself?? cuz those are really good, do u like play flute IRL or is there a program u use to do it?

usually, yes! i have a real ocarina that i used for most of cody's older pokeflute posts.

but recently, since i don't live alone, i haven't been able to find a good time to sit down and record my playing without someone in the background causing audio disturbance. and since i needed to get those asks out quick, i unfortunately had to use an alternative that's less authentic for cody's more recent pokeflute posts. i've been using FL studio for those, so if they sound a bit different from cody's older posts, that's the reason!

On the topic of things we wish we could ask, what would Fallen Leaf think of ROM hacks such as Pokémon Crystal Clear? (In Crystal Clear you can not only play as the female character that didn't make it into R/B/Y, but you can also inject your own trainer sprites).

while fallen leaf might appreciate how fans are willing to create worlds where her and red are equals, it doesn't fix the fact that she wasn't intended to be included in an official capacity.

those greens/leafs aren't "supposed" to be the hero, no matter how much we all want them to be. if given the chance, game freak would shut down all of those hacks and any of the hopeful ideals carried inside them. and that's exactly what the soulless red in fallen leaf's story represents. he is the pokemon company's ideal that only red can/should be the hero of kanto. as long as leaf and red aren't officially recognized as equals, that soulless spirit of red will return to haunt and trap the leaf/green that hackers replace him with, just like you saw in the roleswap event.

the roleswap event was essentially that same thing - a rom hack where leaf takes red's place as the hero. and we all know how that ended...

What is one Poképasta trope that has kinda gotten your Gogoat the more you see it in stories?

truthfully i don't have any pokepasta tropes that i truly can't stand, because i don't read that many pastas outside of what my friend circle writes, and they all write really good stuff. if i had to pick something to complain about, it'd probably be the trope where the pokemon kills another pokemon and stitches its body parts onto itself to make the player love it........ because it's a trope that i'm pretty sure i started. i don't know if there's any new or interesting way to innovate that concept, because every execution i've seen of it is just a carbon copy of the original forever mine (which i think was the first pokepasta to come up with concept).

no hate towards the people who make characters like that, i know that it's all in the spirit of making fun and edgy OCs, but it's definitely weird for me to see so many people copy the idea of my story (either intentionally or not) and use it as a blueprint for their own OCs.....

i'm not truly bothered by it though! i'm not saying i want people to stop making characters that are similar to the original skye. that trope isn't something i can claim ownership of, and i don't care what you do as long as you're having fun!

why does Cody smile when enraged or angry?

1) because they struggle to emote like a normal person after being trapped alone in a tower with ghosts that prey upon their genuine vulnerabilities so they have to mask their real emotions with smiteful smiles

2) they hoped that intimidation via creepy smiles will help dissuade their players from doing something cody doesn't want them to do - whether that be asking something cody doesn't like or want to talk about, or threatening their safety in some way. (cody knows they can't Actually threaten the player, but they hoped that being creepy would make the players feel intimidated enough not to try anything)

cody doesn't smile Every time they're angry - if they're smiling, it's to mask some underlying fear or vulnerability. smiling out of spite is essentially their way of maintaining their composure.

i know it was just a silly joke but i love venusaur so much he was really well written. if pikachu is toxic positivity, blastoise is toxic sadness and charizard is toxic anger, venusaur is toxic apathy.

yesss you got it! that’s exactly what emotion i intended for them to represent!

i remember teasing that idea a bit, when someone asked cody what emotion venusaur would represent if they were in the game, and cody apathetically replied, “don’t know, don’t care.”

venusaur wasn’t supposed to exist, so they don’t represent hacker!cody’s emotions like the other three. they represent an absence of emotion, a lack of care towards the suffering they cause.

venasaur was created by an anonymous hacker out of sheer apathy, wanting to create a venusaur ghost just for the pure sake of it being included, with no further thought or care being put into it, and no care into how it would affect cody.

apathy’s the perfect emotion for it, because it represents how a lot of players felt about creating a copy of cody in the first place…

do any of your stories have happy endings

yes, just not any story i'm currently working on here.

i feel like just because i make depressing stories like pkmn-monochrome or other pokepastas, people get the impression that i'm a nihilistic person or i just don't like happy endings, but that's not true. my original characters pretty much all have angst that eventually leads to recovery and happiness, but you just can't see that from me here because this account (and everything it's associated with) is entirely specialized for my pokemon creepypastas, which are horror stories by nature and horror stories don't typically end happily. since that's all you see from me here, it's fair to assume that's all there is to me, but i really do enjoy happy endings even if i haven't had the chance to share them with the world yet.
