((I got no writing done today, but I did get to my actual doctor, got 2-3 new meds to (hopefully) help corral this asthma problem, and sewed in the tails on about 81 crochet squares for a blanket I'm making.
So...progress I guess?))

If someone messages you on Discord claiming they accidentally reported you, it’s a scam. You don’t need to pay anything either if asked to verify things. Just block the sender and don’t click anything your sent. People are actively falling for this very common scam on a daily basis.
Steam also has the exact same scam format.

This has been on my mind for long but I’m gonna do this - please reblog this if you’re comfortable with pre-establishing relationships. I do not mean “met at the grocery store two weeks ago” or “have a common friend”, but rather stuff like “have been best friends since kindergrden”, “go for a beer every friday”, “friends with benefits”, “dated in highschool”, “hate each other’s guts because -insert reason-”  etc. Something meaningful (but not necessarily shippy) and I mean with muns/characters you have not interacted with, because I cannot believe I am the only one who prefers jumping right into the heart of the human interaction.

The Threat: A gargantuan celestial tree growing in the void between realms that seeks to drain the life energy from any plane it can dig its roots into in its endless search for sustenance.
The Plot Hole: The party forgot about the Weird Tree that almost killed them if they hadn't been rescued by the BBEG's right hand skeleton in favor of chasing a goat for a god and Pirate Island, and I forgot too and now have to explain away why the two powerful NPCs who ALSO seemingly forgot haven't said anything yet.
Possible Solution: All the places where the tree breaks into the Material plane are either: 1) accounted for or 2)controlled, and the places where the barrier is thin enough for the tree to break through anew butt up against a gaggle of other realms, therefore making it too narrow for the tree to squeeze through AND canonizing all the references I made to other settings that I didn't think through at the time, and the two powerful NPCs who low key hate each other are each convinced that they are controlling/aware of all the Dangerous Places and thus would know if the tree was actively causing harm.

"That sounds delicious, so long as it won't empty your coin purse." Michael smiled to try and disguise the way his eyes lit up at the offer of a meal. "I'm not one to say 'no' to good food," Any food, really. He'd learned not to be picky long ago. "But I don't want you spending excessively on my account, miss Eve.
"Let me split the cost with you, at least." He offered, turning back to smile at the woman. "I may be traveling light, but I don't travel so light that I can't pay my fair share of the bill."
"You do, and I do." Michael answered both questions with a bit of a laugh. "It's more part-time, these days, but I'm always happy to return to it. I like being able to make things that people can enjoy, like food and drink, or just a nice experience at the end of a bad day.
"I...had a point in my life where I needed something like that." He admitted, his voice dropping slightly in volume. That point had lasted nearly two years, and calling it a 'bad day' was a gross oversimplification. But Eve had seemed to cheer up once they'd reached town, and he didn't want to disturb her good mood with petty details, so Michael pulled himself together and raised his voice up again.
"So I do my best, when I'm there, to make sure the customers get that kind of pick-me-up. I know how much good it can do."

"Yeah...some of the locals around here are a bit, uh...wary of new faces." Michael offered a sympathetic frown. There were still a few people around Springvale who treated him that way, and he'd been there nearly three years now. Some folk just never adjusted to seeing strangers around town, tourism or no. "But apart from the staring, they should leave you alone." He started to step backwards and gave Tobi a small smile as he left. "I'll be right back with your drink, sir."
The human moved back across the floor to the bar, where he had a short conversation with a black-scaled Dragonborn busy washing glasses. The Dragonborn dried off his hands and turned around to grab a few specific bottles off the tall shelves behind the bar, and shook his head as the human moved further down the counter to work. After a few minutes of pouring and stirring, Michael returned the bottles to the Dragonborn, and headed back for Tobi's table.
"This," He explained as he set the clear glass of a pale yellow liquid on the table in front of Tobi. "Is a Citrus Dragon. Locally made honey mead with a dash each of rum and bourbon, with a topping of dried rose petals and a secret ingredient harvested from the Aubergine Forest just outside of town." A small haze of bubbles still sizzled in the glass, slowly rising from the sides of the ice chunks to gather beneath a thin layer of small, reddish petals floating on the surface.
"It might not look so tough at first glance, but it's pretty strong." Michael promised as he stood back. "The owner has a limit of three per night," He grinned. "Or just one if you're already drunk."
Places like this weren't his scene at all, too many people, too few exists, and not enough alcohol to make the situation easier.
The tavern was fairly busy, though Tobi was managing to scare off any unwanted guests at his table. He hated having to meet people in places like this, but understood why folks were hesitant to go meet in a forest.
He sat, he waited, and he wondered why his old friend had asked him to go meet one of hers. Details were fuzzy, but he agreed anyways.
"One more drink, then I'll leave." The half-orc sighed to himself "I'll kick her ass if this friend doesn't show."

Another bandit attempted to strike while his companion was still collapsing in front of Eliyen with a gurgling death rattle, but even as he began to swing his blade the very air seemed to open up in a blue disk to swallow him up. The bandit reappeared several feet away, facing the wrong direction and still swinging; his momentum powered his blade clean through the bow and hand of another bandit, to the shock of both of them.
Up above on the ledge, Michael closed the portal with a satisfied flick of his wrist.
He could, quite literally, do that all day, but the longer the battle went on, the higher the chances of his companion being injured or overrun would rise, and he couldn't risk that. Instead, he three orbs of whitish blue magic sparked to life in his palm. He threw them towards the fight as if he were scattering sand, and the orbs burst into winged forms. Sailing across the distance to battle, each form seemed to choose a bandit at random and pulled into a sharp dive; they slammed into their targets with little sound and disappeared in a puff of blue smoke, but knocked the unfortunate assailants back and nearly off their feet.
Up above on the ledge, Michael took a deep breath as the last of the eldritch blast faded away.
That one had a limit, but at least it was effective for crowd control.

Modern AU Thoughts in no particular order bc I've been doing a lot of snippet writing in this setting lately but I haven't posted about it much, GO!:
Due to a complicated series accidents, lucky breaks and what were probably a few assassinations, Almaea ends up being the only surviving heir of Vekrom Duet, her estranged biological father and reclusive owner of Duet Technologies Inc., a massively profitable company that sold and produced high quality security systems.
Almaea never met her father, and only discovered his identity when she was tracked down by his lawyers for the purposes of executing his last will and testament. She is actually pretty bitter that he knew of her existence and those of her children but still chose not to approach them.
The Duet family is distantly related to royalty, but the local government has long moved away from monarchy, so it’s little more than an interesting family fact.
Despite Kemat, Maji, and Vashael all being adults, they still live at home with their parents. The Duet family estate is big enough for all five members of the family and then some, and they don’t see the point in moving out when they’re all pretty comfortable where they are.
Almaea and Manon-Val are often away on company business, but make a point to FaceTime their children at least once a night, if possible.
Maji was secretly dating Neragh, a former employee and security guard of Duet Tech Inc., and went public with their relationship after he lost his leg from the knee down and she paid for his prosthetic. They are engaged but have no wedding date set.
Kemat is aromantic/asexual, and is a regular face at the city’s pride events, only missing one year when he punched an off-duty police officer over ‘fighting words’ and spent the weekend in prison.
Vashael graduated college with decent grades but then went on to start a band with his college friends. They’re pretty good, and have a few albums out on the popular streaming apps, but they’re mostly unknown outside of their tri-city area
Michael makes a damn good cinnamon latte that Haaruma - notorious hater of lines and self-proclaimed ‘impatient bitch’ - will queue an hour for.
Michael had a crush on Vashael first after discovering their band’s music, but befriended Haaruma before he ever got to talk to Vashael face to face.
Naoka and Haaruma are still married but it’s a secret to everybody because Naoka’s parents are massively homophobic.
Haaruma has living family in this AU, but she’s no-contact with both of her parents for various reasons. She does still talk to her half-brother Isstun, though.
Bashur (the band’s Minotaur drummer) has his silhouette incorporated into all of the band’s album covers because he’s the most recognizable figure out of all the members.
Michael has a beautiful singing voice, but absolutely debilitating stage fright when the crowd is anything bigger than five or six people. Haaruma and Vashael both dream of one day helping him get over this fear so he can join the band (though their motivations are quite different).
Magic does exist in this setting, but due to past historical events, much of the knowledge of it has been lost. Some scientists and scholars dedicate their careers to researching and trying to revive this knowledge. Ex: Chad Ziel (the lich who isn’t quite so crazy (yet) in this AU), a rising star in the arcane academia scene for his work in understanding ancient curses.
Velenna was once the leading arcane scholar in Chad's field before she retired to live a 'less hectic' lifestyle, and now works with the local authorities of Springvale and surrounding cities as a cursebreaker. She and Chad have no connection in this AU beyond working in the same field of study.
Velenna did not raise Almaea in this AU, but acted as her mentor figure in college, and remains a close friend of the Duet family.
This AU is my ‘slice of life but with smartphones’ setting. The world building is still ongoing, and we’re just here to have fun when the more medieval base DnD setting won’t quite cut it.
