How to stop feeling overwhelmed by your responsibilities: A small guide
Make your favorite hot drink.
Grab a plushie (hug it close).
Grab a calendar and to-do list.
Start with emails - make a list of the ones that need a reply.
Look up any deadlines you might have, put them in your calendar.
Also put in any important appointments.
Add any other tasks to your to-do list, everything that comes to mind.
Now sort your to-do list by level of anxiety. Which tasks, if they were done, would relieve your anxiety the most? These are likely the most urgent and important tasks.
The next step is scary, so hug your plushie real close.
Get started on those tasks: send that email, read one page of the assigned reading, get that phone call done. Baby steps. Just do something to move you in the right direction.

i remember when someone was complaining about their partner being late for shit allll the time and someone was like ‘oh they MUST have adhd and they just can’t help it,’ so i was like ‘hey, yeah, i have adhd, i get this, here are some things other people with adhd can do to help with this problem’
and like five different people just went ‘um time blindness is REAL and you must just not have a severe enough case :/ but there’s no fixing this’
and it’s just…….. is this how we beat ableism? by just pretending that we aren’t in control of our actions at all?
that instead of having conversations about maybe offering more leeway and empathy for people’s struggles while ALSO equipping people with better tools to help themselves
we’re just gonna go ‘yeah, actually, neurodivergent people are wholly incapable of personal will and are ruled by their neurodivergence and can’t be expected to help themselves or other people in any way.’
like i get that some things are truly harmless or truly cannot be helped but… some things… can be worked on. maybe not “cured” or “fixed” but like… worked on. and maybe we should make that info more accessible rather than pretending like its ableist to like… offer tips or  maybe not let people entirely off the hook for behaviour they can manage

Maybe this is a weird question, but can someone describe the kinds of things that it might be helpful to have someone else do when you’re having trouble initiating/switching tasks?
When I tell my mom I haven’t started my homework, she often asks what she can do to help, and I feel bad because all I can tell her is “nothing; I’m the one who has to get it done, not you.” I’m sure there actually is something she could do to help, but I don’t know what it is. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I could respond when she offers help, or the kinds of things that it might be good for me to ask her to do?

What I did today
Studied very hard for my midterm and did reasonably well on it, even though it was really difficult (one of the questions I got wrong involved a piece of medical terminology that I’m fairly sure was only brought up in class once, if at all)
Got the rough draft of my assignment almost done
Read a few paragraphs of my health psychology textbook

What I did today
Answered some practice questions for my midterm on Wednesday
Wrote a sentence of my paper
Got an extension on the paper
Made flashcards to remember the different parts of the brain
Wrote down the page numbers I need to read for Tuesday
It’s been a rough weekend, but I’m happy with what I managed to get done! I’m really grateful my professor gave me an extension, because having to focus on that and the midterm was Too Much.

What I did today
Finished my paper proposal
Read a little more of Revelations of Divine Love--I read it in the park under the Autumn leaves, and it was an Experience
Asked my Medieval Mystics professor some questions about the paper. I think I get what she wants now, but we’ll see what happens when I start writing!
Copied down a few more of the practice questions for my midterm next week. There are a lot, so I’ll have to work hard if I want to get through them all

What I did today
Watched the recorded lecture for the class that was cancelled on Monday
Started reading chapters in two of my textbooks
Got my Brain and Behaviour quiz back - I lost a half mark because I drew the hypothalamus in the wrong place, but I seem to have a decent grasp of the brain’s basic structure. Now I just need to familiarize myself with neurons for the next quiz!
