absolutely agree
Streaming sites should have mandatory physical releases for their originals. I'd love to own a physical blu-ray of The House (2022) & David Bruckner's The Ritual.

always choose physical ownership over digital
in an era of increasing reliance on digital media, having physical media is increasingly -not only novel- but also important.
what I'm saying is go to a thrift store and buy a DVD of that movie you like. burn a CD qnd play it in your car. keep an old mp3 player you can plug headphones into and listen to. print your pictures and put them in a photo album.
we shouldn't be putting all of our media into the hands of streaming and online storage. when you own something physically companies can't take that away from you. they can't make you pay more money to keep it. it's yours.

love hearing people on here talk about their physical media collections 💙✨💿
I’m packing my room up before I head to college and I just filled a medium sized Home Depot box FULL like TO THE BRIM with dvds/games/books, I am a huge fan of physical media and you should be too!!!
Now I just gotta find a place for my records and cds…

an investment in a dvd or bluray player is always a good investment
LOL someone just said in my presence, “There’s no reason to buy a Blu Ray player unless you’re a person who collects obsolete physical media.”
Someone stop me before I commit a murder.

✨ Blurays and DVDs are cool ✨
Person: why do you collect physical media? Don't you know it's an outdated format?
Me: YOU'RE OUTDATED!
Blurays and dvds are cool.
Do you get special features on streaming? No
Do you have to worry about it leaving the service with physical? No
Does Netflix look good on a shelf? No

Tumblr media
do you guys need cultural permission to do things or something. i understand the sentiment here but dvds are literally still available thru all the same stores they used to be with the exception of most video rental. RED BOX is still very much a thing - thats dirt cheap and almost exclusively new releases. and theyre everywhere. walmart still has an entire aisle of new release dvds as well as bargain bins. i would wager the same for best buy. barnes and noble also has a dvd section. it is literally easy to never use streaming u guys just dont want to lol
cds on the other hand actually are very pricey and difficult to get new i think target (or a place like hot topic maybe) is probably gonna have the biggest selection of new stuff but even then theyre very genre specific and you have to be willing to fork over your money. obviously goodwill / half price has cds but its so difficult to find anything worth it and imo the cds are almost always pricier than they should be due to not being As obsolete as cassettes or vhs

✨💿✨ long live physical media ✨💿✨
For real, it drives me nuts when people act like I’m “behind the times” for still collecting physical movies and books.
Like when I blind bought Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange on bluray and the classmate who recommended it to me looked at me like I confessed to writing on stone tablets.
“But it’s on Netflix!”
And guess what was taken off of Netflix a few months later?
I like watching my movies when I want to watch them.
And you know what else? I like not depending on the internet to watch things. The internet in my apartment? Dodgy as hell. There are periods where streaming won’t even pull up on my TV because the internet will blip for 5-10 minutes. And it gets REALLY annoying when you’re in the middle of a show.
Also, there are people who live in more rural areas who can’t get decent internet either. Those people tend to still use cable and rent a lot of DVDs from the library.
So yeah, between streaming companies censoring content and pulling stuff down, and the internet not always being consistent, long live physical media.

this is so important
media should be accessible and able to be owned – by and for everyone
I dont really use streaming (netflix, crunchyroll, etc) for watching shows and movies. I much prefer using physical media, like dvds.
One reason is due to my internet. I live in practically the middle of nowhere, and many have called exactly where we live a black hole. This is due to the fact that no matter what internete provider we use, no matter how many people come out, the internet does not get better. In fact, it can get worse. Even using data is iffy xD.
Another reason is the fact I like to actually own my things. I'm the kind of person that thinks that who knows how long that streaming service will have that show on it, and what if something happens to your account and your banned? You can't access it. Physical media makes sure I own the disc, and can view it whenever I want, even sharing it with others.
Third reason? Quality. The quality is far better. Could be due to my internet but Holy, it's so bad. Amazon prime? Can't even read subtitles it's that bad. I mean, I watched a movie the other day that I've only ever seen using streaming services and almost cried. The picture was so good, and it wasn't even blu ray. I only ever saw the show as a blurry mess before.
And oh god the freezing on these services. Have to pause for about half an our just to watch 10 minutes of something.
