I spent my first decade in SoCal losing to @philychzstk at everything from local criteriums to @belgianwaffleride. I finally begged for a spot on their super talented @monsterracingteam_mrt and the team has delivered me to more podiums than I deserve. Today the team had a plan to give Phil a shot at a national title and he would not be denied jumping at 1 km to go with defending champion @charonlsmith on his wheel to ride thru a three man breakaway with 400m to go and hold it all the way to the line. So thrilled for him and the guys on the team to be able to execute in an incredibly stacked field. We ventured out from Bentonville into “real” Arkansas for a late night, post show, dinner. My mind is blown! I’ve vaguely remebered the name Eugene Bullard before. He was a decorated pilot in WW1 fighting for France after racism prevented him from enlistment with his home country of the United States. I had no idea he was the leader of the 1919 Tour de France up until a broken fork two stages from Paris relagated him to 3rd after he was required to fix the bike himself as the rules of the time dictated.
