“ what the hell are you doing here?! i told you to get out of here ! ”
@ulfhrafnx sent a settling dust prompt
Abandoning one’s contract is no easy task. Abandoning a contract from the Murkoff Corporation is a fool’s errand. And yet, a fool she may be, Jennifer Roland tried. The loss of the towers in Havasupai were enough of a distraction, a chance for her to distance herself from the company who’d put her in danger for long enough. She could start over. Change her name and leave her career and her life behind. But her life had strings and tied to the end was her sister, the one person she gave enough of a shit about in this world. Leaving her was not something Jennifer could do so easily.
Lira, the woman she hired to keep her safe as she made the necessary arrangements to abandon Murkoff for good advised against visiting Gabby. Murkoff’s Mitigation team would know about her. They’d find her first. And, knowing this, Jennifer still did not listen. While an exceptionally rational woman, she lost much of her sense when it came to her sister. An Achilles’ heel.
She saw the black cars outside her sister’s apartment as she drove up. Jennifer knew those vehicles, had seen them parked in the company lot. Dread paled her and she considered driving off and not looking back, but she brought her car to a stop. White knuckles gripped the steering wheel. Jennifer reached for her door when Lira appeared at her window. The sudden shadow in her vision was enough to make her jump and she followed with a sharp curse past her teeth. Rolling the window down only welcomed a harsh response from Jennifer’s bodyguard.
“They’re going to hurt her,” Jennifer protested. “I’ve heard of what they do and I can’t do that to her.”

𝐒𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐃𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐓𝐒.
basically i was looking over the protective prompts and the hero prompts and it hit me that like. the unbridled angst and vibes of the whole “post-battle” scene, or a scene set after an attack or a disaster or smth, needs to be ADDRESSED!!! and so y’all get the full weight of my angst today, sprinkled with a lot of teamwork and selfless and sacrificing vibes. i hope you enjoy! do NOT add further contributions to this list!!! i will curse your potato crops!!!
DIALOGUE PROMPTS.
“ can you hear me? hey… [NAME], can you hear my voice? “
“ come on… wake up. please… please wake up… “
“ oh! oh, thank god! i thought we lost you… “
“ hey, hey… look at me, okay? you gotta get up now. you think you might be able to walk? ‘cause they sent for back-up, and if they find us… we cannot let them find us. understand? “
“ go, go! save yourself! i’ll buy you some time! “
“ we both know i’m not walking out of this one. it’s okay, alright? it’s okay… just… do me a favor, will you? will you make them pay for this? i don’t care how. but… don’t let them get away with it. “
“ hey, how badly are you hurt? can you move? you think you can walk? “
“ if you can’t walk, i’m gonna have to carry you, alright? we can’t stay here. “
“ hey, look at me. i’m slowing you down, we both know it. it’s okay. i’ll hide and wait for back-up; you get yourself out of here. “
“ you’re gonna need to climb up on my back, you’re slowing us down with that injury. “
“ will you quit talking like that?! i’m not leaving you behind! “
“ what the hell are you doing here?! i told you to get out of here! “
“ you’re shivering… hey. hey, listen to me, okay? everything’s gonna be alright, i promise. here… take my jacket. don’t worry, i’m warm-blooded. “
“ i’ll get blood on your shirt… “
“ hey, don’t you dare close your eyes, you hear me? you die in my arms, and i’m gonna stick the dry-cleaning bill for this shirt in your coffin, that’s a promise! “
“ i know we almost died just now, but… am i the only one who’s hungry? “
“ we need to get you to a hospital… “
“ hey, come on now… you’re okay. you’re good, right? “
“ i must be hurt pretty bad if you’re being this nice to me. “
“ quit playing the martyr. we’re not leaving you behind. “
“ you know, i hate to be the negative voice, but… did… did we just lose? “
“ look at me… i’m not gonna make it. it’s okay, i’m fine with that. but… you can’t stay here. you’ve got a good long life ahead of you. and you’re smart, too; too smart to wait around here and waste that long life. so you get out of here, and you go live that life. live it for both of us. will you promise me you’ll do that? “
“ back-up isn’t coming. is it? we’re on our own, right? “
“ can’t sleep, huh? it’s okay. it’s probably all that adrenaline and shock; i can’t sleep, either. wanna keep each other company? “
“ i don’t give two shits about the back-up; i’m just happy you’re alive. “

The definition of horror was transcribed in Jen and Mara’s eyes. Torture and death and horror and gore swam in the black and red eyes. Each moment they seemed to get closer to Staci, seemed to drag him in like an ocean’s tide at night, deeper towards a dark abyss he had to snap away from. When Mara’s static clung to each word, when it zapped and shot and crackled into the air, Staci took a rushed few steps back, evening out their distance.
Tumblr media
“She was something before you, she can be something after you’re gone too. And I’m gonna make sure it happens. I’ll be around to see you go, Mara. I-I’ll save her. I’ll save her with my family. We aren’t going down without a fight. And neither will Jen. Sad to say, but you aren’t getting another chance at life after this one, Mara.” The teen grimaced down at the tar that puddled on the ground. “Did Jen not teach you dental hygiene? Unfortunately for you, I don’t think Murkoff insurance covers dental.”
“FunnyBOY...” Mara hissed, spoken with a voice that screamed wrong. Everything about the swarm was wrong. It was a bastardization of Murkoff’s efforts, a creature born from hatred and pain, stripped of the Walrider and made into something more. Only it was monstrous---a mangled, grotesque amalgamation of science and the creatures that were meant to lurk under beds and in the darkest nightmares.
That was what lived inside Jennifer. That was what controlled her body like a puppet, her voice silenced behind its hissing static. That was what broke free of her skin, Mara’s claws sprouting from Jennifer’s fingertips, skin stretched and breaking. Blood dripped on the ground.
“YouwillbeALONEsoonenough,spider.Wewillmakesureofthat...” Mara grinned once more. “Youcan’tprotectanyofthemfromUS...”

Finally. The OTHER had found it. Its endless lures of carnage and destruction across New York finally brought THEM out of the shadows. Mara's makeshift mouth pulled back in a wild grin, bits of brain matter from its kill still oozing from its maw. "/HiDaddy/," it hissed, tone dripping with the arrogance of an feral child. / swarmdiagnostics
Miles is part of a team now. Supposedly. He’s never really considered himself to be much of a team player – group project dynamics had never really been his thing. Too many conflicting personalities and work styles. But now he’s apparently meant to be getting along with a ragtag group that consists of the soon-to-be mother of his child, an intern who might as well be his child, and the absolute bastard who’s personally fucked with and attempted to ruin the lives of the former two individuals.
Which is to say – he values his personal time. The late night jaunts around the city where he doesn’t have to adhere to Staci’s naive morals, or Quentin’s completely warped morals, or Lynn’s general displeasure about the whole situation. Miles isn’t exactly fond of the setup either, but it’s underpinned by the sense that this is mostly his fault. His fault for being stupid and getting caught by Team Mysterio – which is the only reason why there’s a Swarm far worse than his own roaming around New York. And if a little teamwork is required to make amends, there isn’t much room for arguing the matter.
He wants to set things right, and this time, he isn’t stupid enough to think he can do it on his own.
So he isn’t seeking anything out tonight. He isn’t trying to hunt down the creature calling itself Mara. Hell, Miles isn’t even seething through the shadows as Venom. It’s just him, just Miles, just the boring and average reporter out to get some air and clear his head. There’s the baby stress getting to him, too – a perfect cocktail that requires a little space to process. And he tells himself he’s not going to go looking for trouble, but trouble has a funny way of finding Miles even when he’s trying to avoid it.
Perhaps even more so when he’s trying to avoid it.
“Jesus fucking Christ.” Instantly his entire being shifts to high alert, the Walrider percolating beneath his skin in a show of defense. But it isn’t panicking as much as it normally might. That’s alarming in and of itself, but recognition clicks into place in some unknown recess of Miles’ mind. This is Mara. The thing that he – that they – inadvertently spawned. There’s never been anything particularly pleasant about the Walrider’s strange and inhuman appearance, but there are qualities to it that Miles has grown to accept and appreciate. This one, though – this is a different creature entirely. Grotesque where the Walrider is merely unnatural. The scent of blood and meat would likely be overwhelming if it weren’t for Miles’ dampened senses. As it is, the visual is nearly enough to churn his stomach. Not that Venom hasn’t committed atrocities of its own, but there’s something about Mara’s feral grin that strikes a different chord.
It’s roughly the same as the difference between self-defense and outright murder for the sake of it. For the fun of it.
“What do you want?” As though it might answer in any sensical way. But there’s an anger bubbling up within Miles, a frustration at being confronted by the thing they’ve so desperately been trying to hunt and bring to heel. Because this is Jennifer Roland just as much as it is a Swarm. Her hunger, her hubris, her complete and utter disregard for innocent lives. Has the Swarm made her anything more than what she already was, or like the Walrider, has it merely amplified that which already existed?
The thought of Lynn, alone at home, is the only thing that keeps him from tearing into the creature before him. If Mara wants to start a fight, he’ll do what it takes to protect himself. But he won’t initiate anything like this.

“You have to know that we’re after you. That you’re a child compared to us. Before you start shit, make sure you know damn well how it’s going to be finished.”
