Michael starts walking towards the alter and packed gazebo when he meets Zain’s gaze and runs away towards the park causing quite the stir. Ruben assures the guests he’ll go find out what’s wrong
RUBEN: Michael! What was that back there? Everybody is still waiting for you…
MICHAEL: I’m so scared Ruben...I just- I can’t do it. Plus, I think he’s going to use me for monetary gain and ruin my career. He asked me to marry him when I was drunk and I, oh god I don’t even remember saying yes! Oh god oh god oh god I’m going to ruin my life and-
RUBEN: Michael look at me, take some deep breathes. In and out, c’mon you’re okay...
A moment passes and Michael recollects himself albeit a bit shakily
RUBEN: …Why didn’t you say anything to me? Or Penelope? Or Dorian? Or anybody?
MICHAEL: I just wanted something good to be good all the way through for once in my life! I didn’t want to worry about having a partner anymore and maybe even give Ophelia more than one shitty parent!
RUBEN: Michael...you know as well as I do that Ophelia loves you and that you’ve been a good dad despite the circumstances. But Michael, having somebody in your life shouldn’t be seen as a one-and-done type deal. Having a partner shouldn’t have to be a worry and I know you don’t have the best track record but marrying a random guy you met only months ago isn’t going to solve any of your problems. And Ophelia’s life certainly isn’t going to get better if he backstabs you and sends you to prison.
MICHAEL: I don’t want to be the one to ruin my own wedding though I mean everybody is already here and my mom was finally proud of me for settling down
RUBEN: Listen to me, you’re going to go up to that alter and tell him what for! I promise you’re going to regret this more if you don’t. And don’t worry about your mom! They literally just want you to be happy- you know that. I’ll be right there with you if anything goes wrong
MICHAEL: Promise?
RUBEN: On my life :)
