out of character. Fond flashback to pretty much two decades ago when I first made the decision to not magically heal Gin's lost arm back for my canon-divergent verses and how I started testing out all the things Gin can and can't do with one arm -- and how that ended up with me rolling around on the floor trying to get into his Arrancar Arc cosplay at 2am without using my right arm/hand at all. I was completely normal.
Anyway, frembly remembly that Gin is missing his right arm in both of my main canon divergent verses; Rogue and Redemption. The only canon divergent verse that has his arm magically restored is New Generation, in which he becomes a father with Rangiku. That restoration symbolizes that he's healed and ready to move on.
In my Redemption verse, Gin slowly but surely becomes accustomed to doing things differently, is quite flexible and good at dealing with most obstacles, and even accepts that he'll have to ask for help (usually from Rangiku, but Izuru too) whereas Rogue Gin is used to being mostly alone, so he's gotten very good at avoiding needing help no matter what. He'll use his mouth, his feet, he'll get very creative to work around the fact that he's a loner without a shoulder to lean on.

AIZEN WAS STILL SLUGGISH FROM THE TOLLING EFFECTS OF AT LAST WIELDING HIS BANKAI, it seemed. It didn't help that their enemy was capable of likely unmaking Gin in the same blip of minimal thought that had gone into sealing his slit throat prior ---- Yhwach was something of a horror beyond anything Gin could properly comprehend. Intimidating, yet approachable in the sense that... he was some dreadful, unavoidable thing. A black hole sucking them inward, threatening to turn all to the swallowing dark that sought to cloak the world. Could Shinso even mark him, could it even pierce his skin? Going in, Gin hadn't fell prey to any delusion that he'd be more helpful than a mere decoy, a thing to dangle in front of Yhwach to make him strike so that Aizen could take advantage.
The Quincy King's Blut Vene seemed impenetrable, enough so that Yhwach already successfully flung the rogue Shinigami through a handful of structures in a sort of recoiling response to his armored aura being attacked. Gin could handle brushing off rubble from his midst, though it did still hurt, he was not so breakable now with the restoration of his peak health and the return of his right arm. Yhwach's defenses were formidable nonetheless, though Kamishini No Yari's bite could possibly be fast enough that the steeled skin or shielding aura couldn't manifest in time to protect its host.
It was worth a shot, especially after Yhwach went and blasted a hole into Aizen's chest.
โ โ€” hey! โž An unnecessary outcry, Gin knew, but anything to gain even half a second's worth of time ---- he aimed, he made sure that Aizen wasn't in the crossfire this time. A little backwards to then slash his sword out in defense of the man who he had once attempted -- no, succeeded to kill in a very similar fashion. Realistically, Gin knew that Aizen could regenerate the wound fairly fast. He also knew Yhwach was possibly the only remaining thing in existence that could wipe Aizen off the face of the universe. He didn't want to risk giving the Quincy King a chance to test that theory.
Yhwach moved in for another blow against the bloodied Aizen and thus Gin struck in tandem to intercept. When his blade swept across the great expanse of the invaded Royal Palace, Gin paid no mind to the collateral damages that Kamishini No Yari caused in the background. Pale towers collapsed, but it was Yhwach he sought to rend in two. For a brief blip he saw that black caped figure indeed separate with the wedging cut of his Zanpakuto. Yet, in the instant following, a blinked snap erased the deed and Gin was subsequently overshadowed by a volley of arrows zipping his way.
The crack of forceful gusts of power and wind that his blade caused when it retracted back to defend its wielder was deafening, a delayed roar of sound akin to the way thunder lurked through the sky following the swift dart of lightning. He swept the blade back out in another snapping shot in a wide arch to cut through the incoming volley, shattered light and shards of arrows came raining down in a sweep in the weapon's stead.
Another blip, and those arrows snapped into repair (or were they ever truly cut to begin with...?) a frustratingly sharp spark of panic ignited in Gin when he rushed to Shunpo out from the line of fire instead, dashing to narrowly avoid becoming skewered through the chest by the seemingly inevitable barrage. He hadn't attempted 'blocking' the blow for kicks, it was expansive, blanketing the entirety of the area Gin stood at -- those fast-traveling beams of blue were relentless and quick to overwhelm.
He was struck ---- ran through, to be exact, how an arrow glided in and out of skin and muscle alike like butter yielding to a hot knife. Struck, but Gin didn't have time to assess where, or how badly, just that the bite was akin to the jab of a needle, different from how Kyoka Suigetsu had run him through two years ago. This was cleaner. Perfect. It seemed Gin worked as a fine enough distraction whilst that telltale blur of orange hair proceeded to strike out against Yhwach, a grand slash that landed true, leading to a terribly stiff silence thereafter. He didn't remember falling down, didn't even stop to touch at the wound he sustained. And only with the grip that still slightly tinged and itched at his skin firmly holding onto his regenerated right arm did Gin realize he was being guided back onto his feet.
The entirety of Soul Society proceeded to celebrate, to collapse with relief, to mourn, to move toward recovery and rebuilding and all sorts of wondrous things whilst the two traitors vanished. Best to not linger and give the crippled Gotei 13 a chance to remember they needed to shove Aizen Sousuke back into Muken.
Their subsequent return to the vast outskirts, a safehouse tucked away, was near-immediate. Aizen's Sentan Hakuja was as empowered as the rest of his Kido, seemingly, and the massive leap between realms (albeit the Royal Palace was cracking through the fabric of realities at the time...) led them to the Rukongai. Effortless, despite their mutual bloodied states. Aizen's arm was already reformed, though his chest still suffered a slower rebound. Gin almost laughed out loud when the man gingerly touched against his bleeding side. Ah, that's where he got hit, then -- a bit difficult to discern amongst the chaos.
It was funny, getting fussed over whilst the man had a hole in his chest. But at this rate that was a state of normalcy between them, wasn't it? That wound was closing before Gin's eyes, anyway. Durable bastard.
โ Gonna whip out your Bankai to fix this one, too, Sousuke? I'll be covered in gold at this rate. โž More of a tease than an actual ask; he wasn't dying from this, though he needed to stop the bleeding. Aizen seemed on top of that, a hovered hand emitting a low hot glow. Golden light as opposed to the standard green -- likely a token of his released powers prior.
โ You didn't have to do that, Gin. โž Aizen spoke, healing away the residual ache as well. He was thorough, a glint of something in that one visible eye.
โ I'm aware. โž A pause, and Gin swallowed down something in favor of electing for more sass. A grin, a playful tip upwards of his chin, and oh how they fell back into such trivial little bickers and snarks. Aizen's hand ceased its hovering, instead pressing to the Shinigami's mended side. Gin did not draw back, no matter the heat that subtly burned with that contact. If Aizen kept his touch intact perhaps Gin would become branded over the course of, say, ten or fifteen minutes? Another handprint to join the array of jagged scars and golden lines of repair that scattered across his body. The possession was mutual; โ But he crossed a line. Only I'm allowed to blast a hole'n your chest. โž

THE TOUCH OF A HANDKERCHIEF JARRED GIN FROM WHATEVER TRANCE BEFELL HIM IN THE MOMENTS AFTER a rather messy kill. His ear was ringing, a thrumming high-pitched tone. The carnage stained his typically clean-cut track record when it came to slicing foes down, a slather of crimson spattered across the ground in a flare off into two separate directions, a jagged arch of the prevailing gore that clung to Shinso's extended blade made its way back toward Gin when he retracted it, leaving a rather uncharacteristic mess of things. Maybe he was just a little rusty -- or distracted enough that they skimmed a hit on him first before Shinso split them in two. He really needed to work on his left-handed draw, sluggish, messy, slowed him down just a half-second too much.
If that arrow hit her instead, Gin would've been far more wrathful in his return-fire. Luckily his appearance to her defense wasn't anticipated, a rush to draw back and fire at the Shinigami hadn't graced them with the foresight to aim spitefully for her instead of the incoming threat. Gin didn't swat Peach's hand away when she sought to remedy the spilt blood dripping down from the scrape of the arrow to his temple -- he didn't want to put away Shinso yet. More threats could be lurking. Still ---- she needn't fuss, he was fine. She was fine. Crisis averted, narrowly. He turned his head away after the first few dabs of quickly-stained white. There were already stray drops bleeding into the white collar of his outermost pale cloak.
โ It ain't safe at this hospital, they're huntin' down anybody worth a lick'a reiatsu that could help th' Gotei 13. โž That was why he left Hueco Mundo in the midst of the Quincy Invasion, emerging from his hiding in favor of lending his aid. Even after two years living as a rogue half-dead and neglected, Gin never stopped being a Shinigami after all.
โ โ€” go to Urahara's Shop, find Tsukabishi Tessai. He'll take care of ya if Urahara Kisuke's away โ€” which, with th' state of everythin' right now, I reckon he will be. โž

out of character. I forgot if I ever mentioned this, but to clarify so it's on my blog -- after the events of the Thousand Year Blood War, my redemption!verse Gin's restrictions are severely lessened. These amendments to his parole come after months spent rebuilding, mourning the losses, and realizing the aid he provided against the Quincy Invasion justified loosening the leash kept around him. Gin is given back his right to carry Shinso on him, no longer has a curfew, and the seal upon his reiatsu is exchanged for a simple tracker to keep tabs on his location. He's still subject to questioning when deemed necessary by Central 46, but he is not in threat of being jailed if he misses a captain's meeting, for example.
Similarly, in my rogue!verse, Gin's status as a war criminal remains -- yet the clear-cut orders to capture or kill him on sight are waived since he came to aid Soul Society when things grew dire. He slots himself within the same territory as Aizen regarding status amongst the Gotei 13; a threat, but one best left unbothered. Shunsui is valid in deciding to not chase after the two Shinigami that turned the tide of the war in his favor. It's best not to poke the beast known as Aizen Sousuke. If Gin were to go waltzing into a busy area of the Seireitei he'd still earn alarm, defensiveness, and antagonization from all Shinigami within a ten-mile radius, sure, but at least he could pop up in the World of the Living for some convenience store junk food and not trigger a mass-mobilization from the stationed Shinigami nearby.

out of character. I've wanted to do this for almost two years now but I never got around to doing it: my two main canon divergent verses were originally just one, and the name for it was rather depressing because I made it during the depths of my depression era. That said, I'm changing my current 'failure verse' to a more accurate title of 'rogue verse' -- in hopes that when speaking of it, it's not so........ depressing, y'know? I'll be changing tags for roleplays, musings, and headcanons -- as well as on my verse page information for it and the graphic I made for easy understanding of the various verses I offer. That's a wrap! We're manifesting better vibes for 2024!
