  though he CAN’T HELP the soft amusement which twitches at the corner of his smile due to her wording, he happily accepts the gift velum holds out toward him. with most anyone else, he’d tease them for saying something like ‘out of scratch,’ but velum is one of the few who brings out a particularly GENTLE side of him. he doesn’t want to tease her for something like that, given that any human language is still new enough to her that mistakes are expected and understandable. plus, he’s far too ENDEARED by the fact that she’s made something specifically for him, that she thought of him and put time into creating a gift all on her own.

     “ it smells lovely, ”  genji informs her as he inspects the pastry. gaze lifting back to her, he extends a hand and gently brushes through the fur atop her head.  “ HOWEVER, i believe the phrase is ‘made it from scratch.’ ”

  comment catching him by surprise, genji makes something of a choking noise before bursting into laughter. ONLY JESSE could think something like that, but genji supposes that’s just one of the reasons he likes the guy so much. trying to stifle his laughter, he looks back down to the old picture of himself and hanzo but, now with jesse’s words in mind, it’s difficult to contain himself. he can see it. now that it’s been pointed out to him, he can’t see hanzo’s eyebrows ANY OTHER WAY and, frankly, it’s hilarious.

nevermind the fact that he and his brother more or less have the SAME eyebrows.

  it’s funny, he thinks, how he can feel NAKED sitting here, stripped of most of the metal plating that makes up the outer surface of his body. it isn’t as though it makes much of a difference, really, when there’s so little true SKIN to expose and the rest is simply synthetic muscle and well hidden access panels. and yet...

flexing his prosthetic fingers and watching the tug of inorganic muscle in response as he muses silently, genji only glances up when he hears kalyana re-enter the room.

     “ i am sorry for the short notice, ”  he apologizes for the second time since arriving at the doctor’s ‘clinic,’ though he supposes she’s likely USED to it at this point. it isn’t as though he’s ever called in an appointment ahead of time, especially considering how his visits tend to be more... URGENT in nature.  “ my plan was originally to come later while i am in the city, but when the loader in my arm became jammed... it seemed wise to visit SOONER. ”

  lids blink open at the sensation of hands brushing briefly against his hair and something being SET atop his head. it’s not a common way for him to be disturbed in the midst of his meditation, but he doesn’t seem terribly bothered by it either, his gaze flitting upward to catch only the FAINTEST glimpse of the edges of petals sticking out from his forehead. seems like kairi’s been keeping herself busy while they’ve been sitting outside.

     “ how does it look? ”  genji asks, head turning in the girl’s direction so she might determine if the look suits him or not. there’s a tug at his lips, lighthearted AMUSEMENT creeping across his expression. it’s sweet that, while he’s been meditating, she’s been sitting nearby, quietly weaving together a flower crown for him.

  body STIFFENING beneath the large hand on his shoulder, the cyborg’s voice is as sharp as the blade sheathed on his back as his head snaps to the man at his side. his expression may be entirely hidden by the new mask he dons, but his anger is almost PALPABLE as it begins to boil up and cause him to seethe.

in truth, it sounds like the sort of thing he would have done only a few years ago, if you took out the ‘robot night’ part. but that ISN’T who he is anymore, and he would NEVER allow himself to be put in a scenario where he was presented as a robot. 

     “ i have done NO such thing, ”  he growls, left hand moving to grasp TIGHTLY at the hilt of his wakizashi. turning to reinhardt, now looking ready to pounce, genji’s eyes narrow behind his visor.  “ who said that? WHICH of the mechanics are spreading these LIES? ”

  legs folded neatly, genji sits on the floor with velum perched in his lap. his posture is relaxed, his head tipped halfway to one side as his eyes follow his fingers, which run SLOWLY through cream coloured fur. it’s an affectionate action, but it’s also an attempt at providing velum with the activity of grooming which would SURELY be a regular thing among her kind if... there were more of her kind than just HER. it’s some speculation on his part, but he’s seen enough nature documentaries to know that most furrier mammals make something of a BONDING ACTIVITY out of grooming one another.

     “ what have you been doing with your time? ”  he asks after a few moments of working in silence, gentle smile audible in his tone.  “ i heard you have made friends with winston --- he is good company, isn’t he? ”
