KING BENJAMIN FLORIAN GUILLORY -- KING TO AURADON , OR KING TO THE ISLE ?

king benjamin florian guillory has an admirable streak. king since he was sixteen and still in auradon preparatory high school , king benjamin spend most of his first six months with his then-girlfriend mal , daughter of maleficent , taking productive tours of all of the kingdoms not only in his purview but also the allies to the united kingdoms of auradon.

however , upon the coalition where uma , daughter of ursula , brainwashed the king with a love spell , things seemed to change. everyone remembers the radical law that king benjamin put into place where the villains from the isle were moved to a different prison , but few remember that king benjamin’s reforms for the isle actually started with giving the members of the isle fresh food straight from the back of our hardworking farmers.

it gets worse. almost every major law king benjamin has enacted since has dealt with the isle in some form or fashion. it wasn’t until his fourth year in reign that king benjamin has even started to establish any of the same work ethic that he had for the isle for the kingdom of auradon. king benjamin is even still trying to petition for the barrier to separate us from the isle down.

despite numerous petitions , albeit none that gained too much public traction , king benjamin remains in power. the question remains , does king benjamin care about auradon in the same way that his father , previous king adam , did , or will he spend even more time and effort on the isle who still house the henchmen and the children of the villains ?

past experience says no , and it’s frustrating. we voted for the king and queen of auradon when the war ended , and yet we established another line of succession for the power of running half of the kingdoms on the continent. it may be too much responsibility for such a young king , which could be why he’s focusing on such an insignificant portion of the kingdom.

this lowly writer wishes that king benjamin remember that he is not the king of the isle but instead the high king of the united kingdoms of auradon. otherwise , it might be too late to undo the damages that king benjamin has done to the kingdom , even if petitions to dethrone the king and establish a democracy may go through.

vague verse notes.

ben is a bit of a social outcast after belle and adam get divorced when he's in middle school.

he lives with his mother in a small cottage. due to the divorce and the fact that he stayed with his mother rather than his father, he's no longer considered to be a "royal".

ben spends most of his free time reading books. just as belle was when she was a teenager, you'll always see ben with his head in a book, or at least, a book in his hand.

ben purposefully underachieves a little just to not get too much attention drawn to him.

honestly unbothered by any bullying that he receives unless someone says shit about belle. a verbal lashing follows anyone who talks shit about belle.

has the sense of mind to think that the isle is wrong but has no idea what he could even do about it? he's like "i have no power, political or otherwise, so..."

still has his sense of justice and right/wrong, but is more prone to giving up than he does in canon. his stubbornness manifests in other ways.

a lot more socially awkward. oscillates between being too quiet and getting too excited and babbling about something. his shyness also isn't trained out of him.

in the distant future, when ben is twenty-four, twenty-eight years after the isle was created, public opinion finally becomes more inclusive towards the vks due to eight years of vks and travellers from the isle mixing well with auradon and ben is finally able to take the barrier on the isle down.

dates are considered to be semi-formal events in auradon. even the most relaxed setting -- a picnic -- is usually elevated to be more formal for the occasion. for his first date with mal, ben deciding to swim in the way that he did actually de-elevated it and took it from something formal to something a lot more casual, which mal couldn’t have known but was something that ben was trying to do to make her a bit more relaxed. (it failed, somewhat, because he didn’t know that mal couldn’t swim).

musical instruments that my muses know how to play:

melinda: piano. learnt as a child , kept the habit as an adult. the house she had with andrew had a piano , but she left it and music behind after bahrain.

alex: none. alex didn’t have the patience for an instrument and preferred more physical sports.

shōto: none. endeavour wouldn’t let him waste time with a musical instrument when he could be training to be a hero.

xiaolang: piano. he can read a music sheet and play accompaniment but he’s not the best. he sucks at playing the recorder , but he learns it in school.

spencer: he never actually learnt it , but he started playing around with a keyboard after meeting sammy. he can play melodies , but he’s not good even if his notes are accurate.

kanda: violin , not learnt in this life. he rarely plays it just because of that.

dick: guitar and ukulele !! he learnt guitar at the circus and wasn’t good at it at first , but he kept practising and got a lot better at it. ukulele , he learnt when he was an adult.

rose: none. never was anything she was interested in. she did do cambodian ballet when she was younger until her mother / sisters were killed.

ben: violin and piano. just a part of princely lessons.

yaling: none. also not really interested in it and preferred to do sports.

kaito: piano. he got bored one night and taught himself to play the piano because he’s one of those assholes.

shinichi: violin. i feel like i don’t need to share the reason why ( sherlock holmes fanboy ).

ran: basic guitar. has two lessons under her belt. she’s not that fond of it , but she does think it’s cool.

martha: none. leo was the artistic one of the three , and martha was always more into the hard sciences.

ahn: a little bit of guitar. he knows how to play a few songs , but that’s it.

jayoon: technically none but she could spend a few hours and learn how to play any instrument perfectly , cold.

nobleman: same as the above.

kakashi: guitar. had to learn it for an undercover assignment. hasn’t used it since.

sasuke: none. not with vengeance on the brain.

naruto: none. no money and no time.

satoshi: none. not with training on the brain.

tsubasa: none. his parents were too busy trying to prepare him for the future.

misc. ben headcanons.

ben and his kingly duties.

Ben is absolutely EXHAUSTED with all of the stuff he has to do as king. Despite the fact that he has been training for his kingship since he was a young child, he’s always had some sort of support from his parents ( well, mostly his mother ), and his parents ( well, mostly his father ) took control most of the time. However, since becoming king and his parents going on holidays constantly, he’s had to almost completely cut his non-king-related socialising time ( including his sports; he had to quit fencing and he can’t go to too many tourney practises anymore ) as he has to work so much on paperwork, his council meetings, ceremonies, homework, etc. In fact, he’s been really eating only one meal a day ( maybe two, if he’s lucky ) and gets only about three-four hours of sleep on a daily basis. Still, he manages to keep a smile on his face and tries not to let this stop him.

ben and showing how he’s upset.

When Ben is upset ( but not upset enough to go “Beast” ), he DOESN’T like to show it. Instead, he’ll put on a BRIGHTER smile and either just ignore it or stop whatever it is in its tracks. However, despite the brighter smile, his voice gets lower and huskier, coming from the deeper part of his range.

ben and physical affection.

Ben is a SUCKER for head rubs / hair petting. If someone plays with his hair, he literally MELTS and turns into a puddle.

ben and his vocal tone.

I imagine Ben’s voice being lower and gravely constantly due to being in a perpetual state of exhaustion so much that people get used to it, and when he finally gets a healthy amount of sleep, his tone gets a little bit higher and everyone gets confused like ???

ben’s full name.

Ben’s full name is “Benjamin Florian Guillory.” In canon, only his parents + Mal knows of his middle name, but his first and last name is a matter of public record.

ben and parties.

as a boarding school, auradon prep acts remarkably like a college school. even though fairy godmother lives with the students, there are ALWAYS people who are looking to party and get drunk. CHAD is one of them – and he often dragged ben with him. ben, who looks to be a good friend ( and one of the few sober people at a party ) often watches the proceedings while he reads a book, not usually partaking in the drinking or the smoking. as people tend to get drunk fast, he often gets ignored ( unless people, usually chad, try to bring him into the proceedings / games ). thus, ben has a passing familiarity of such events, and he has drank alcohol before, but he doesn’t smoke and doesn’t do drugs, nor has he ever really gone too crazy with the partying.

ben and drinking.

ben HONESTLY doesn’t drink much – partially because he doesn’t quite like the loss of control that comes with drinking ( as he TRIES to suppress the beast as much as possible ) and partially because it wouldn’t be right for the future king and then king to drink to the point of sloppiness. plus, he usually has paperwork / meetings / homework on the daily, and that’s hard enough without bringing alcohol and/or hangovers into the equation.

HOWEVER, if one manages to convince him to drink, it takes a LOT of liquor for him to get drunk ( half of a bottle of a hundred proof liquor or an entire bottle of a fifty proof liquor orhoweverthisworks ).

When he manages to get drunk, he LOSES a lot of the tenseness his body constantly has, and becomes a lot more sloppily happy. He stumbles around, and he has LESS control of his strength, so he could possibly and accidentally break some stuff. He also wants a little bit more physical affection than usual, so he’d normally start to hang off of someone he trusts. However, his emotional drunken state also depends on his SURROUNDINGS as well, as if he’s surrounded by the people he loves, he’ll definitely feel happier.

ben and his king voice.

when ben is issuing something in his “king” voice or when he REALLY feels passionate about a topic, he’ll start to drop the contractions ( maybe use them sparingly, but less contractions are used ). it’s an unconscious action, and he hasn’t really noticed it himself yet. however, he does use contractions in his every day speech.

ben and pickpocketing.

so, in chillin’ like a villain, ben managed to pickpocket jay, evie, and carlos without them noticing, which is pretty important considering it’s those three ( ESPECIALLY JAY ). how could he do it though when ben is 92% sugar, spice, and everything nice? i totally headcanon that, when ben was pretty young and adam and belle were travelling around, they visited aladdin and jasmine, and while jasmine showed adam and belle around the palace, aladdin decided to take ben around the city and teach him a few… tricks ;D, which includes pickpocketing, which is why he actually has the skill ( he actually picked it up quick; although, he doesn’t use it except, well, obviously in the song ).

ben and his hair.

ben starts getting white hair early due to the amount of stress he’s given himself between his kingly duties and his school, especially with his work from the isle. he’s honestly kind of shocked by the first white hair he finds, but because he’s not terribly vain, he leaves it in. slowly, parts of his hair starts to turn white, and he wonders if chad’s “old man” nickname cursed him to grow white hair early.

ben and fidgeting.

so one thing i noticed that when ben is anxious and nervous in a public setting and doesn’t really want people to notice is that he’ll fidget with his clothes and/or the buttons – straighten his jacket out, make sure his wrists’ collars ( or w/e they’re called ) are properly folded, mess with the buttons on his jacket, etc. they really put focus on it in d1 after the parents’ day, after the vks fled and so do the aks and adam and belle, but also when hades is like “so, am i invited to the wedding?” at the end of d3 and ben is just like “hi, dad” really awkwardly alskdjfasfjd.

ben and diplomatic trips as a child.

listen, ben has definitely had to go for diplomatic visits to other countries ever since he was young, and i bet you that all of the heroes that are pretty friendly to children tried to make it as fun of a trip as possible, which includes aladdin teaching ben how to pickpocket, mulan giving ben an impromptu sword fighting lesson, hanging out with some of the elves, etc. he totally tugged on mushu’s tail as a toddler.

ben and his personal space being encroached.

iben is completely and utterly used to his personal space being encroached. it no longer really bothers him like it did when he was a bit younger and a lot more shier ( i mean, ben’s still pretty shy in certain ways, but he constantly wears the mask of an extrovert because kings have to be extroverts amirite ? ), but it’s the reason why he just really… does not react when people get all up in his personal bubble, even if it’s to intimidate him ( looking at you, harry ). i’m sure he’s had many people just encroach in his personal space just because he is a prince/king. it’s honestly a non-issue for him.
