surprise starter for @greedbent because Baizhu saw my other muses bothering his "secret" crush and refused to be left out 😤
"I have a prediction. Would you like to hear it?" Changsheng's voice floated into the front room of the pharmacy from somewhere up in the rafters. She hadn't shown herself once since he'd begun work that morning; Baizhu had assumed she'd been with Qiqi or Gui.
"Well, don't leave me in suspense," the doctor replied airily. Faced with a break in patients for the afternoon, Baizhu had begun filling prescriptions. Even while conversing, practiced hands moved of their own accord: one adding leaves and petals from the trays of mint and qingxin beside him to a large medicinal cauldron, while the other worked the milky substance within beneath a starsilver pestle.
Naturally though, Changsheng did exactly that. He'd nearly forgotten she'd said anything by the time she divulged her 'prediction.' "Sssomething tellsss me that today isss about to get interesssting."
Baizhu hummed, attention fixed on his work. "Oh? What makes you say that?"
Her answering snicker came from directly above him. He paused as Changsheng dropped onto his shoulders so he wouldn't spill anything. "You'll sssee sssoon enough," was all she said as she adjusted her coils, and the doctor shook his head fondly. With her affinity for the vague and riddled, sometimes Baizhu wondered if his companion wasn't some long-lost adeptus in disguise.
Minutes passed with only the scrape of the pestle along the cauldron's base to fill the silence. Then footsteps sounded on the stairs leading up to the pharmacy—but there was something...unique about them. Not just a rhythmic tap-tap of shoes on pavement, but with an additional tone layered in unison. Metal on stone. Tap-tapclink.
That could only mean...
Ah. Well, in all fairness, Changsheng was rarely wrong about these things.
Baizhu didn't look up until the steps arrived in the entryway. To anyone else, the sight of a man clad in all black, gazing into their shop with such intent, sharp eyes may be cause for alarm. But Baizhu simply smiled, hands pausing to give his newfound visitor his undivided attention.

"Why, Kaz, what a pleasant surprise. How nice to see you." Likely not a sentiment heard often, but it was entirely sincere. He pointedly ignored Changsheng's muttered 'I told you' that tickled his ear. "Is there something I can do for you? Oh—unless you're here for your 'prescription'?"
The code word was second-nature despite there being no one else in the pharmacy to overhear. With a grin so pleasant adorning his features, the doctor certainly appeared to be speaking of a legitimately prescribed medication, rather than the special-ordered poison that currently sat fermenting on his kitchen counter. "It's nearly finished, but I'm afraid it needs another hour or so to infuse for maximum...potency." There was a dark edge to the chuckle that rolled in his chest. "We must be sure it's strong enough to take care of the problem, mustn't we?"

“Hey, Doc! Hey, hey, did you know—? Didja know? They sell shirts that cover your entire torso...? (◕ ᄋ ◕) It's a thing! It's real. You can totally get one!”
Seemingly infinite energy falters, however. And Kokichi's feet flatten back to the ground after a fit of bouncing. He cocks his head as he looks the doctor up and down, expression twisting into a good show of pity.
“Aw, wait~ No, you're right; that's, like, sooooo rude of me.”
Within an over-dramatized pout, “It's because you can't afford an entire shirt, isn't it?”
// Baizhu won the roulette spin of "who will kokichi bother this time" and I apologize 😔

"Who is this rude little child?" Changsheng hissed from her perch on his shoulder. Her unblinking eyes narrowed and her coils twitched in agitation, but Baizhu's chuckle eased the tension.
"Now now, what if he's here as a patient? Don't say anything unprofessional." Meeting their guest's dramatic pout with amusement, Baizhu noted both a lack of any obvious injuries as well as the fact that he couldn't recall seeing him around the harbor before.

"And as for you: haven't your parents ever taught you that it's risky to disrespect the person giving you medical care?" With a shake of his head, the doctor's attention returned to the list he held, continuing to take inventory of the pharmacy's shelves. "If you're only here to entertain yourself with childish insults, however, I'm afraid I don't have the time to spare."
Dismissive fingers fluttered briefly in the child's direction. "Run along and find someone else to pick on."

“Everyone should have a dream, even a pathetically unrealistic one.“ // @Baizhu (tho i can... almost guarantee he probably isn't talking about Baizhu specifically— almost uvu;)
Teen Wolf Season 1 Sentence Starters || Accepting! || @greedbent
((i mEAN EVEN IF HE WAS, IT WOULD BE VALID X'D and Baizhu is well aware of that alsdfksj bUT B3c he's amused regardless))
At first the doctor merely hummed, offering passive agreement in the midst of rearranging one of the pharmacy's shelves to hold new stock. But after a few beats of silence, his response flowed buoyant and playful, "I don't think I've ever heard that much optimism from you before. I'm a little impressed—unless, of course, that was meant as a less-than-subtle jab at me."
Most rational, Celestia-fearing people of Teyvat would call the search for immortality as 'unrealistic' as one could get. But such people were closed-minded; confined within the known and narrow by a frankly concerning amount of complacency.
While he'd never known Kaz to harbor any fondness for the norms of the world (societal, legal...take your pick), Baizhu did wonder if he thought his personal quest was far-fetched to the point of foolishness. He wouldn't take offense, even if so. Someday he'd have to ask.
Tumblr media
"Regardless, surely you must realize a statement like that begs an obvious question." Here Baizhu paused in his work to toss a curious glance over his shoulder. "Does 'everyone' include you, as well?"

starter for @moonhund
Afternoons in Liyue were a leisurely affair. Most appointments were made for the morning or after lunch, allowing Baizhu time to fill prescriptions and assist walk-ins. Having caught up on the morning's prescriptions, he was about to begin a fresh batch of cold medicine when he heard footsteps enter the lobby.
"Welcome in! I'll be with you in just a moment," he called from the storeroom behind the counter, words chased by a soft grunt as he hefted a crate of qingxin into his arms. When he rounded the corner into the pharmacy, he was met with a familiar face.
Tumblr media
"Ah, Chongyun, how good to see you." With hurried steps he set the crate beside the medicinal cauldron with the other ingredients. A smile disguised the way he paused to catch his breath just from such a brief burden. "I don't recall you having an appointment this afternoon. What brings you in today?"

"what's that? is it bad?" (PLOPS THIS DOWN FOR BAIZHU

"Aside from the wounds themselves? Not inherently," Baizhu puzzled as he studied the small puncture wounds across the other's forearm. Grateful as he was to have had help defeating the rockfond rifthound that had suddenly ambushed him, it was unfortunate that Itto had been injured as a result.
"However, the rocks embedded inside must be removed carefully; if any minuscule fragments are left behind, it could lead to infection or greater problems later on. But not to worry—" Baizhu assured as he rummaged through his travel satchel, "—I'm a doctor, and I have the necessary supplies to treat you right away."
He withdrew a pair of surgical tweezers and a roll of bandages. Then, taking hold of Itto's hand, he tugged his afflicted arm in close with a shockingly strong grip. The smile he offered was tight around the edges, his voice the calm command of a professional.
"Now: hold very still. The more you move, the more this will hurt."
