Reading on Tumblr is a unique and odd experience. As a reader who has a small, but slowly growing, pool of mutuals I often find myself struggling to regularly keep up with their work that is longer than an average drabble. From my understanding of Tumblr and various social media sites, the best way to grow your platform, especially from a creative standpoint, is to produce content and produce content quickly to stay relevant. That’s a lot of onus on the creators because they need to not only be coming up with ideas but also dedicate time to write, edit, format and post their work. As a reader, I should be happy because all my favourite writers are spoiling me with fics, drabbles, hcs and everything in between, all the time. And because I love their writing, I know I’m going to enjoy everything that they post. However, that also means that there is a lot of content to consume and respond to. Personally, I believe that if I’ve read your entire work and I enjoyed it, you deserve to know that be it through tags/comments in reblogs, asks or dms. However, I want to do this right, meaning that I want to put in thought and catered praise. However, with the sheer amount that I want to read and I want to respond to I get overwhelmed and fall behind on my reading. Often it takes me longer to read what I have liked (which I know is a terrible bookmarking system and I'm trying to find a solution that works best for me and authors alike), but I do get to them slowly but surely. In a similar vein, there are so many instances where I don’t see a lot of mutual’s work perhaps due to timezones and/or how Tumblr decides to show content. Even after the queued '#icymi' posts I still find myself discovering a lot of missed content days, if not weeks, later which is equally frustrating from a reader’s perspective (especially when I want to support and encourage the authors I love so much). As mentioned before, I understand how important feedback is to creators, and I love giving it. However, sometimes the way that this site is coded doesn’t work in the creators' favour because as a follower I expect to see your posts on my dashboard similar to how you as authors expect your works to show up on my feed. All in all, there are two sides to every coin. I hear and understand the concerns that you have as creators, and I hope you know that making content should never be a chore but, should be something that you enjoy doing for yourself. Understanding readers and their moods/patterns is difficult as there are so many different ways individuals choose to consume content (I myself am a heavy mood reader and when I hyper-fixate on a character, I spiral and just read anything I can find on them). It's impossible to do everything by the book and cater to the endless varieties of readers. However, even if the numbers and the stats that you are receiving on your pieces are not what you like, please know that you're just as valid as other posters on this site.
I am monitoring a discussion this weekend between writers and readers about low interaction and frustrations. Please read the rules before submitting something.
Just as a reminder, if you wish to reply to someone's message, do not comment on it with your own handle. Instead, please link it in an anonymous reply of your own. If you do not know how to do this, I can walk you through it.

can you write a cute drabble where the reader has just started dating steven and she’s sort of messing with steven saying little things to rile him up a bit, but steven is so darn cute that it flies over his head and marc is screaming to get out and though steven is confused, he does let him, and suddenly marc is cornering the reader with a smirk “care to repeat that sweetheart”
tongue tied.

Scooter's Epic Team-Up: Bieber & Ariana Unite! Insider Spills the Beans 🚀
Scooter Braun's Circus of Celebrity Dramas: A Comedy Unfolds Well, well, well, hold onto your hats, folks, because the latest Hollywood saga has arrived, and it's juicier than a watermelon at a fruit festival. 🍉🍉🍉 Picture this: Scooter Braun, the man behind the curtain of pop sensations like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, is in a bit of a pickle. Or is he? 🤔🥒 Rumor Has It Social media streets are buzzing louder than a swarm of bees trying to figure out what's cooking in Scooter's celebrity kitchen. Is he cutting ties? Is he sealing deals? Is he secretly moonlighting as a salsa dancer? The world holds its breath. 💃🕺 But hold onto your well-coiffed hats, my friends, because the real story might be as thrilling as watching paint dry. According to an anonymous source (who may or may not be an undercover squirrel), all of Scooter's star-studded clients are just juggling some contractual acrobatics as he takes on the grandiose role of Hybe America CEO. 🤹‍♂️ Hybe-tastic Drama Now, what's this "Hybe America" business, you ask? Well, it's like the U.S. version of that South Korean sensation, Hybe Corporation, formerly known as Big Hit Entertainment. You know, the masterminds behind K-pop superstars like BTS? Yeah, those hip-thrusting heartthrobs. 🕺💃 So, in the midst of all this kerfuffle, we've got Bieber, Grande, and even Demi Lovato potentially in Scooter's showbiz blender. The gossip mill churned out stories of severed ties, but reps from all sides are waving their hands like they're trying to flag down an ice cream truck on a hot day: "Nuh-uh, not happening!" 🍦 Demi's Wild Ride Remember Demi Lovato? The talented songbird who signed up for Braun's rollercoaster? Well, turns out she's taken a detour from this ride. But hey, it's all amicable, like two pals splitting the last slice of pizza after a sleepover. Lovato, you see, is off the Braun train, and the exit was apparently as smooth as a buttered dolphin slide. 🐬 Taylor's Tune Now, if you're thinking, "Hey, didn't Taylor Swift have a showdown with Scooter over her music?" You're spot on! She wasn't exactly singing his praises when he gobbled up her master recordings. But, believe it or not, there's no bitter aftertaste here. Scooter's claiming he's cool as a cucumber, and Taylor's on her merry way, re-recording her hits. 🎤🎸 The Bottom Line So, what's the takeaway from this celebrity whirligig? Is Scooter Braun orchestrating a blockbuster drama, or is this just another case of showbiz shenanigans? One thing's for sure: in this circus of contracts and rumors, even the most "badly" behaved celebrities are just looking for a friendly lion to tame. 🦁🎪 And remember, dear reader, in a world full of emojis, rumors, and hybe-tastic spectacles, the only thing we need more of is laughter. So, grab your popcorn, settle into your inflatable armchair, and enjoy the unfolding hilarity of Hollywood's latest episode. 🍿🎬# Scooter Braun's Circus of Celebrity Dramas: A Comedy Unfolds Well, well, well, hold onto your hats, folks, because the latest Hollywood saga has arrived, and it's juicier than a watermelon at a fruit festival. 🍉🍉🍉 Picture this: Scooter Braun, the man behind the curtain of pop sensations like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, is in a bit of a pickle. I still like LinkedIn, but folks over there have been tripping really hard this past year. I was told to join them some years ago before they got popular to do something I had no idea there was a term for: "networking". I was referred by a media company, since I do a lot of different business stuff on the side, including marketing me and my mom's books. I have been doing this "networking" thing outside of LinkedIn for over 20+ years: Before social media. So, it's not new to me. I have mingled with execs and CEO's for a very, very long time. I loved the snazzy parties and presentations, whether it be at some penthouse, luxurious hotel, suburban home, or conference center. I always learned something new. And, oh yes, interviewing for a spot in the fashion world as well. So, I am definitely no stranger when it comes to business and various fields of profession. I have seen LinkedIn grow, evolve, etc. It has been interesting. And, it is going to be even more interesting to see how the French business social media sites that I just registered on weeks ago grows as well. I just hope that it doesn't turn into an "asshole fest". I have seen LinkedIn change in good ways and bad ways. When I originally joined, things were simple. People were more open to "mingle via the internet", more truthful concerning their actual intentions on connecting with you, and really paid attention and focused on "growing their brand" and getting their name out there. The environment at LinkedIn has changed. I guess I may as well list the "negatives": the "cons" about it, including the unpleasant after effects I experienced while that company went through various phases of change. #1): Browsing Experience: cowards who do not want their face shown for you to see that they browsed your profile. There is an "invisible mode" there so you can't see who browsed your page.😶🙄🥴 Okay, weirdo. Peeeeeekkkkaboooo.... #2): Creating Articles Module: everything was cool at first. In fact, I got really excited, because what did I see in this? Well, I can seriously market my work on a whole new level❣️ Not through LinkedIn, either. I advertised globally to get people to read my articles. So, I was loving every minute of it, until my view count reached over 10,000. I discovered that LinkedIn changed my URL.😱😱Then, there were other people's faces and article snippets on my new link! It unfairly gave other folks new exposure!👺👺👺👺I am not paying for them to steal my numbers!!! What the fuck is going on?👺👺👺👺 So, after bringing in over 200,000 readers, I decided to slow the momentum down, because no one should be stealing my thunder if I am out there in this world sacrifice to make something of myself just to have people steal my spotlight when I am dropping cash for that and bringing in new LinkedIn members because of my hard work.🤦 If I bring in more by the masses, I don't want that shit to happen to me, again. That is unfair. #3): Trust. You are who you are, right? I have been checked out by individuals who hire fraud investigators. I forgot what they are called, but it deals with profiles, internet security, and shit. #4): LinkedIn is becoming more like Facebook: anonymous individuals playing finger games with the keyboard, hiding their identities while getting you roasted while you are actually doing something legitimately!!! And, constructively!!!🤦🤦🤦🤦🤷🤷🤷I can go on and on.🎙️🎤🚶🚶

I'm a reader and many months ago I saw a post about how important reblogs were to writers but a few days ago I saw another post that said it's discouraging when the reblog is empty or it's just the tags of the fandom the fic's about so now I'm feeling kind of pressured into having to think about something when I reblog a fic because I'm not very good with words

forgot to add in my last ask for your disscusion:
thanks for doing this, I feel like a lot of folks always have good insight or additions to the overall interactions topic and its hard for me especially to post about it on my personal blog cause I'm terrified of the backlash one day I'll be brave enough to do so
but really appreciate you making space for this discussion, i think it's super important!

As a reader I was confused when this happened: I kept seeing several posts about how writers love getting comments that are paragraphs (any comment is appreciated of course) but so many writers agreed in their tags that they liked when the comment was huge. So after reading that I left a nearly 800 words comment on a writer's fic because I just loved it so much I wanted to express every crumb of gratitude for the writer, however it's been nearly a year since I left the comment and I've got no response from the writer of said fic, and that's okay but I'm scared i let my enthusiasm get the worst of me and make the author overwhelmed or maybe cringed about both my comment and their fic like and I'm worried the fic is going to have a sour taste for the author since I stained the comment section with how much I said.
TLDR what I'm confused and anxious about is: do writers really like getting huge paragraphs for comments or what would be considered the limit of words a reader can leave in their fic?

replying to this anon as both a reader and a write as well, but i would say i generally prefer shorter fics. i have nothing against long fics and i think it's so impressive when ppl post rly long fics but it's so rare that i have the time to read or write anything more than a couple thousand words.
i think that's also why headcanon posts generally tend to do a lot better than fics, which is disheartening because a lot of times fics allow for more creative exploration (not that hc's don't, just my opinion.)

I'm a reader, and not really in any sort of Tumblr circles or anything (I don't really have many mutuals at all), so I do read and reblog fics when I read them, but I know it doesn't do much for the writer.
I've left positive comments a few times, but it usually feels daunting, since I don't typically get any interaction back (not that I expect or need any!), but I'd say 90% of the time I've left comments, I don't get a response. Maybe because I don't give any sort of constructive feedback? But I don't really feel qualified to do that and I would never want to come across as rude, so that's not something I'm comfortable with.
I also don't always have the time or energy to read super long fics when I come across them, and usually forget to check back in my likes for fics that I want to read. So sadly the longer fics that obviously took the writers more time and effort usually don't get as much interaction from me - that's where I wish Tumblr had some sort of save or bookmark system.
I'm so appreciative of all the writers out there, and I try to follow writers, and reblog and comment on most everything I read! But again, I don't have a big circle on here, so my interaction doesn't do much in that sense. But I hope every writer knows how thankful we are for their time and effort, it does not go unnoticed ❤️

as a reader, i don’t reblog very often. i don’t have many followers on here, and the ones that I do have are inactive or spam bots at this point. to me, at least in my case, it doesn’t make sense to reblog something that i know none of my followers will see/share (my follower activity is literally nonexistent lmfao). that being said, i can still see the value in it in terms of adding my comments/feedback in the tags. in that case i’m not sure what would be more appreciated- leaving my feedback in the tags or just sending asks letting the writers know how much I appreciate their work. i guess both, probably?
ps this is a very neat thing you’re doing!! it’s been nice to hear everyone’s point of view.

I am also both writer and reader & I am curious do people like more short or longer fics? I know that some years ago long fics were really popular, but now I see much more drabbles and under 3k works
So yeah just wondering
(I personally prefer short fics, because I do not often have the time to read and like having read 3 different fics in the same time as 1, that doesn't mean that the 3 fics are better than the 1 longer, but I like variety in my daily life)

i'm both a writer and a reader, but i do more of the former. it makes me sad when i wake up to my notifs flooded with likes and zero reblogs, even worse when someone likes through my entire masterlist (all fifty something works on there) without reblogging a single thing /: and it frustrates me seeing my mutuals get hate for posting about their personal life or reblogging things other than writing. anon hate just sucks and is disrespectful all around. anyways, thanks for facilitating this rae!

I have a lot of followers on my blog, which I am really grateful for, but it does not feel like I have the number of followers I have. So I hardly get any notes on my writing (especially when the tags are not working (which is a whole other issue)). And I hardly get any interaction on my fics. I hardly get comments, or reblogs, just likes mostly. It really frustrates me. And a lot of the time, when people request things from me, they don't even seem to appreciate it that much.
I'm also a fanfic reader, so everything that upsets me I try to not do. Like with writers I like, I will reblog their stuff, encourage them, and try to be kind to them.
It's really upsetting to me that even with us writers saying how much interaction means to us, hardly any followers/readers actually care to do that.
