*this touches a little bit upon some of my personal hcs for jae which you can find here if you’re confused or interested.

Dear Ray,

First of all, I’d like to point out that this is totally not my fault. I looked into that material you were asking about—I know, I’m amazing and thoughtful, you’re welcome—and tracked a seller down in Knockturn Alley. Now, I don’t know what this is or what it does, but I figured that if you needed it, I could trust you with it. So, I decided to meet with them. And I know what you’re probably saying: “Jae! Are you mad? You don’t even have your magic because it’s summertime and this is a strange and possibly dark wizard who doesn’t have the same restrictions and inhibitions as you—” or something like that I’m sure. But I couldn’t find it anywhere else in the U.K. I think it’s an import. And I didn’t want you to have to do without.

Don’t worry though, common sense came back and bit me in the arse for it. Long story short, I did not acquire any of it for you—yet!—but I did seem to embarrass myself enough to not try it again until school starts and I can finally use my magic again. I’m sorry I couldn’t help you more but I think I’ve learned my lesson this time. Please let me know if there’s any other way I could help. I’m bored just hanging out with Hanseul anyway.

Speaking of Han, the bugger has been asking about you for weeks. I’m starting to regret telling him about your curse-breaking quests because now he seems permanently star-struck. Can you believe he even had the audacity to tell me that I’m not cool enough to be friends with you? Now that’s just plain rude. I got him back for it of course but now I’m starting to wonder if he likes you or me more. And as the coolest big cousin ever I’m frankly a bit insulted that I’m not his biggest role model anymore.

But I suppose it’s okay. You’re the only person I’m willing to share that title with.

Anyway, I hope you’re week was more interesting than mine—y’know, other than the dark wizard run-in. If it wasn’t that’s rather dreadful because my week was totally boring. Maybe we could meet up later, keep each other from going crazy. What do ya say? The usual place? On the 14th? Let me know when you can!

Rayann allowed herself a soft, secret smile as she read the letter. On instinct, she looks behind her to check her personal calendar on the wall. July fourteenth—free.

Newly excited, she immediately sets the letter aside to draft one of her own.

A love letter to learning languages:

Hello,

I guess it's a little weird hearing from me in this way, haha. But something about you just draws me in. You're captivating in a way very little else is, in my opinion. You seem endless. I feel like I am constantly discovering something new about you, with you, from you. From the way you laugh to the way you sing to even how you curse, I feel my heart skip beats. You're like nothing else I've ever encountered.

Sometimes I hate you. I'm sorry, but I want to tell you the truth. Sometimes I despise you. Your rules that don't make sense, the way you spell certain words I already know how to spell, the way your ends are sometimes beginnings... you infuriate me with your rules about politeness and propriety. But then it clicks, I suddenly understand what you're trying to say, and I feel that anger fade away in an instant.

I like to remember the fun things about you, the tongue twisters and the puns. The jokes that only make sense when you say them in that special way of yours. The way you can make the most mundane things sound romantic and special... I love that about you. It's hard to find something that keeps me so riveted for so long, but I've been in love with you since I was a kid.

So, to the times in the past and to the times in the future, I just want to say I love you. I love you when I'm mad at you and I love you when I don't have to struggle to understand what you're saying. I love you on my bad days and my good ones. I love you.
