“Easy...easy Luz...i-it’s just me...Noel, remember?” He hadn’t yet come face to face with her Owl Beast form, until just a few minutes ago. Noel thought Luz had seemed unwell since that morning, but she never mentioned it and so he hadn’t either. Now he’s wishing he had, when they got attacked by coven scouts looking for him, the last thing he had imagined with an explosion of feathers and cries as she ripped into them.

But they had also managed to get some hits in, and now Luz is bleeding. No elixers, miles from the Owl House, those need to be treated, now. Noel’s hands wrap tighter around Rascal and he sends out a comforting pulse of magic, a spell he learned from his Beast Keeping class. He just needs her to calm down...

“It’s going...going to be o-okay, I promise. Please...j-just let me help you, Luz.”

Noel’s been sitting on Mrs. Noceda’s porch for a while now, just staring out into the thunderstorm and thinking everything over. He has Rascal in his lap, shaking hands petting the red feathers; trying to process everything that’s happened today.

“Caleb...” That’s the name that Rascal told Goldie to use at Hexside. It seemed random at the time, but that’s also what Belos screamed when he saw the Palisman, completely enraged by some memory.

“Is that...me? The person I came from? The one that Belos was trying to make over and over?”
