Under the read more, the ESC22 songs I am okay with if they win. If a song other than these wins I will bite my thumb at Europe.
Just a couple notes: I've listened to all the songs, but I've avoided watching the performances so I can be surprised tomorrow. If one of these has a flop performance or does an homage to Do it for your lover, I take no responsibility. I've also listed them in the order they will perform, not in order of preference.
Portugal: Maro - Saudade, saudade. I feel like such a stereotype, enjoying my neighbor so much, but I just really like this song. Every time it comes up on the playlist, I brighten up.
France: Alvan and Ahez - Fulenn. I like the song and I love the idea of countries sending songs in minority languages to Eurovision. I hope a win would encourage other countries to do the same.
Norway: Subwoolfer - Give that wolf a banana. I'm over Norway's PR tactics, both last year and this year. And I don't actually like the song because I feel the chorus and the verses belong to completely different songs. But I guess I commend them for sticking to the gimmick.
Italy: Mahmood and Blanco - Brividi. I don't think Italy wants to win and have to host ESC again lmao, but there's something about Mahmood that I can't and won't resist.
Ukraine: Kalush Orchestra - Stefania. I think their song last year was HIGHLY superior to this one, but I wouldn't be mad if they won since the song has a similar vibe of mixing tradition with modernity, and who doesn't love a man's tender feelings for his mom. Combined with breakdance.
Lithuania: Monika Liu - Sentimentai. I just really enjoy this song on audio alone, it throws me back to a black and white movie with a woman in a long bodycon dress. I can only hope the performance captures the vibe of the song.
Sweden: Cornelia Jakobs - Hold me closer. Cornelia sounds to me like "we have Robyn at home" but that isn't a bad singer to sound like, not by far.
United Kingdom: Sam Ryder - Space Man. Coming from a country that is on the bottom more often than not, I understand how the British feel, and I'm okay rewarding the BBC for not sabotaging their entry for once.
Serbia: Konstrakta - In Corpore Sano. From reviews I get the vibe that this performance is weird as fuck. I like the song and I'm on her side regarding her message.
Songs I like but not enough that I'm okay with them winning: Czech Republic, Romania, Finland, Armenia, Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Iceland, Moldova, Australia
Who are you, I've listened to the playlist so many times and I still can't conjure up your song: Azerbaijan, Poland, Estonia
Get out of my sight: Switzerland, Germany
And of course, my opinion on ✨✨Spain ✨✨ The song just isn't very good, BUT I've been wanting Spain to send a song with Caribbean vibes for a while. (Just wish it had been Caribbean as in Birth of a new age and not as in Slo-mo but baby steps.) I am overall very happy with our entry, I know Chanel's worked her ass off, and I hope this year is the start of Spain getting its shit together for Eurovision. I also wouldn't want us to get stuck in a rut of only sending songs like these for the next few years. Would love to see a song in a minority language, or a song in the style of Celtas Cortos, Basque rock, neo rumba catalana, etc. There is SO much to choose from among our music that Europe would enjoy.
Also, if Chanel gets more than 125 points, she will beat the previous record holder which is Mocedades with Eres tú IN NINETEEN SEVENTY FUCKING THREE. So I don't need her to win. Just getting 126 points shows we're on the right track lmao.

So that was the second semi! Great show, and a good set of finalists, no huge surprises for me but still a couple of personal disappointments.
Qualifiers:
Belgium: I think this being unique within the competition really helped, as the only RnB influenced song, I can definitely imagine it did well with juries but it had a great stage show too and I’m sure it won over some televoters! I thought it was borderline but it’ll definitely add something to the final
Czech Republic: Very happy for them! It’s a great song and one of the best stagings, captured the tone of the song perfectly and looked so cool with all the lighting and blackout effects!
Azerbaijan: Personally I didn’t want this to qualify, and I hoped it would get overlooked since there were stronger ballads, but it is what it is. The staging reminds me vaguely of what they did for Hold Me back in 2013 with another guy mirroring his moves, but it was effective then and I think it’s effective now.
Poland: Those on camera effects aren’t great, and unfortunately I’ve lost all hope that this might be a surprise winner with them, but I still love the song and thought the rest of the staging was decent. I was certain this would qualify and am so glad to not be wrong!
Finland: Controversial opinion maybe, but I could do without them! In an ideal world I’d have all the rock entries, but with only two in the semi and only one qualifying I can’t help but compare them, and I preferred every aspect of San Marino’s entry. I’ll be interesting to see how this one fared in the split results – nostalgic televoters or juries recognising an established name? Of course I could be completely wrong and underestimated just how much people like the song!
Estonia: I’m very glad Stefan qualified, I joked about missing the cowboy shootout but in all honesty I did feel the stage felt a little empty with just him. However, thankfully it didn’t matter, even with the black sun the warm aesthetic it had came across and really made it stand out. I was quietly confident this would go through.
Australia: Another one I thought had much more chance than not of qualifying, so no surprises here! It’s well deserved, Sheldon gave the great performance I was expecting.
Sweden: Brilliant song, fantastic performer, I fell in love with this song all over again watching Cornelia perform it tonight. I had zero worries about it qualifying, honestly I wish they’d left this announcement for last!
Romania: My immediate reaction to Romania being announced was disappointment because it meant one of San Marino or Serbia didn’t qualify, but that’s unfair to WRS. It might not have been in my personal top 10 of the semi, but it’s a very catchy song and the performance was certainly memorable with those outfits!
Serbia: The relief I felt! Honestly I worried I might have lost both my faves in this semi for a moment there! Konstrakta is incredible, I’m so so glad we’ll be seeing her again in the final!!
Non-Qualifiers:
Israel: I expected this, it felt like it needed a strong televote to go through and there were plenty of better televote friendly songs in my opinion. I wasn’t impressed with him coming up behind the hosts when they opened the voting either.
Georgia: I also fully expected this but I’m still a little sad. I completely understand the result though, the performance did leave me wanting more, but it’s a song I’m gonna keep listening to long after this year’s contest is over.
Malta: For me, not qualifying felt right for this song. The performance was decent but it certainly wasn’t enough to elevate it anywhere near qualifier status.
San Marino: My big heartbreak! Looks like neither of my favourites of each semi qualified! I knew not to get my hopes up but I’m still disappointed, the performance was exactly what this song needed, and I hoped it might just be enough to qualify but apparently not.
Cyprus: For a while I thought this felt like a sure qualifier even if it wasn’t my favourite entry. I took back that prediction before the semi, and I’m glad I did! Her energy just wasn’t quite there on stage unfortunately, even if the staging was cool.
Ireland: Brooke was a lot of fun to watch, I love her attitude, and the song’s my jam, but much as I love this entire entry, there’s only space for 10 songs, and unfortunately this one had to miss out.
North Macedonia: I’ve always liked this song, but similar to Ireland, there’s only space for 10 qualifiers. It’s even harder in this semi since it had an extra song, eight going home is awful lot!
Montenegro: Vladana sang well, and the song clearly means a lot to her, but I definitely think it wasn’t one of the top 10 songs in the semi, so this result feels right for me.
It’s a similar story to the first semi in terms of results for me, actually, I got 6 out of my top 10, and while my personal favourite didn’t qualify, my second favourite did so I’ll be rooting both Moldova and Serbia on in the final! There’s no qualifiers here that have me really scratching my head, I can see the merits of each one. It’s a tough competition and I’m so thankful to everyone for putting on a great show tonight! Bring on the Final!
