First off I apologize about the pictures of the ocean water steps. I completely changed my mind from what the pictures show and went with what is in the main picture. I think it’ll be easier to teach this way and its prettier :) I’ll be giving detailed steps below to make up for the lack of pictures :)

Steps:

1. Mix med/light blue and create gradient to white filling the bottom area of the sky all in with white. We’ll be streaking the other colors right over the top of the white.

2. Next streak in yellow over the white area and then red over the yellows, whites and the bottom light blues and blending to get some oranges, pinks and purples. Feel free to bring more yellow in to make the oranges more vibrant. I like to leave a pocket of bright yellow where my sun is shining. This will be the center for my reflection down below.

3. For the water, mix an orange and purple first. You’ll need white, yellow, orange, red and purple. The purple should have some white to keep it from being to dark. You might be able to get away with not doing orange if you blend the red into the yellow really well. :) Start with white as the base color for the water. then streak in yellow using flat and short horizontal strokes for the center of the reflection. The yellow should streak out wider towards the bottom creating a very loose trapezoid shape. Next is orange on both sides of the center with the same sort of stroke. Then red and lastly purple. towards the edges. Feel free to streak in extra white for highlights on waves or go back in with a dry brush to further blend between transitions.

4. Then its happy cloud time :D you’ll use the purple and orange from the water colors, a white/yellow mix and mix a HOT pink with just a little white in some red. Start with clusters of purple clouds, the more random the better, but all following the same flow of the breeze. Then add hot pink clouds starting by overlapping some of the purple clouds and then working your way down to below the transition of blue to white in the sky. Then some orange clouds overlapping the pink clouds and getting smaller and more poofy loose triangle shaped towards the horizon. Last you can add shadows with red/hot pink on the left side and some highlights overlapping orange clouds with the light white yellow.

5. Light purple and base purple islands along horizon.

6. Black island and sand silhouettes next. the curves in the sand get closer together the further back you go. Then the little palm trees with the biggest one on the right. Trunks first and then add curved leaf lines.

7. The last steps are adding small white horizontal streaks in the center of the water reflection and then a white sun peeking out of some clouds if you’d like. Next, for the waves, I’ll start with a streak of white and then go back in with a dry brush pulling the white out until it gradually fades upward.
