Rare Mitsubishi A6M3 Zero restored is about to make its first flight
Original Japanese World War II aircraft are very rare and a Mitsubishi A6M3 Zero is about to fly in the US.

In the United States, an extensive restoration project is being completed: at Legend Flyers in Everett, Washington, a Japanese single-engine Mitsubishi A6M3 Zero fighter has been restored so that you can fly again.
The aircraft with construction number 3148 was built in 1942 and flew with the Imperial Japanese Navy. According to the available documents, it was used by the 252th Kokutai and in 1943 suffered massive damage due to bomb shrapnel at the Taroa airfield in the Marshall Islands. The Japanese had no way to fix the Zero in the field, so they just left it off the runway, where it fell apart.
Tumblr media
American warbird collector John Sterling found the fighter in 1991 and dispatched it to the United States. He hoped to restore the wreckage so that he could fly again. However, the restoration turned out to be so complex that several owners failed in the task one after the other. Thus, in 2011, Zero reached the Legend Flyers, who took over the task.
The fighter was restored to its original 1943 condition, with one exception: the original engine could not be repaired, so it was replaced by a Pratt & Whitney R-1830-92 radial engine. The painting corresponds to that of the original aircraft down to the last detail. In the fuselage, in addition to the Japanese badge, the restaurateurs also reapplied the original registration, indicating that school-age children from Manchuria occupied by the Japanese collected money that supported the purchase of this aircraft.
After the inaugural flight and flight tests, the Mitsubishi A6M3 will fly from the US West Coast to the East Coast. It will be owned by the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and will not only be on display at the museum's static exhibition, but will also be demonstrated in flight at air shows throughout the country.

One month later, I have finally mustered the energy to write this trip report. After months of anticipation, I finally got to visit Busch Gardens Tampa and SeaWorld Orlando. This was my first time to BGT. I went to SWO in 2011, but I have only very foggy memories of that trip. I was in Florida from the evening of Friday 2/10 to the afternoon of Monday 2/13. I did BGT Friday evening, all day Sunday, and Monday morning/afternoon. I did SWO all day Saturday. I was able to ride all the coasters, except Scorpion at BGT, which was closed the whole time I was there. Here are my thoughts and rankings!!!!
1) Iron Gwazi - 10 rides, including 3 night rides. MY NEW NUMBER ONE!!!! When I say that this is a life-changing coaster, I do not exaggerate. I have hyped this ride up in my mind for so long, and it still exceeded all my expectations. I expected it to be more intense than most of the other RMCs I have ridden, but my mind was still blown by the intensity after my first ride. I expected it to be ejector airtime city on this thing, but there is a greater quantity of airtime and more aggressive airtime than I could have imagined. I was flung out of my seat on the first drop and on that beautiful outerbanked hill following the drop every time. The barrel roll down drop is taken from such a height and at such a speed that it blows the one on Twisted Timbers, which I love with all my heart, out of the water. I hear people talking about sideways airtime on Fury, and I just think they’re insane. The wave turn on IG actually gives crazy sideways EJECTOR airtime. The stall on IG lasts longer than the one on Steel Vengeance, but surprisingly, isn’t as whippy. You get another great airtime pop on that last drop, then absolutely slam into the brakes. If you have ridden Steel Vengeance, you almost have no choice but to compare the two, and for my money, Iron Gwazi wins. If you have two similar rides, and one has a midcourse brake run and the other does not, the one without the midcourse brakes will usually win for me. Iron Gwazi is shorter, but its pacing is better. You are thrown from one element to the next in rapid-fire succession without a second to catch your breath, and that is one of the most appealing characteristics in a roller coaster to me. I cannot say enough good things about this coaster, and the fact that it is 9.5 hours away from me is eating me up inside. I cannot wait to get back on it.
2) Montu -- 3 rides. I am a B&M invert freak, so this was my second most-anticipated ride of this trip. Again, it did not disappoint. I am so obsessed with this layout. Carowinds is my home park and Afterburn is one of the great loves of my life. Montu and Afterburn have nearly the same layout, so of course I am comparing them. Montu provides all of the positive Gs I love in an invert, with the gray-out-inducing first vertical loop, the foot-ripping batwing, and the whippy corkscrew. But it also throws in that nice, floaty zero-g roll for some variety. I appreciate the extra height that Montu has on the first drop, as well as the additional ride time you get from the second vertical loop, which is still intense and forceful despite coming after the midcourse brake run. But here we are, back to the two similar rides, one with a midcourse and one without” issue. As a result, I think Afterburn still sits atop the B&M invert throne. It just feels a little better paced and a little more intense to me. But the rides are so similar, I can hardly even separate the two. I love both more than I can adequately describe.
3) Manta -- 3 rides, including 2 night rides. Manta was the second major thrill coaster I ever rode, with my first ride occurring in 2011. I remembered liking it, but now being 12 years older and an insane enthusiast, I am in love. After riding Nighthawk countless times, this B&M flyer is like a dream. This coaster has an excellent blend of intensity and gracefulness. I am obsessed with the pretzel loop. I love positive Gs, and being exposed to them while lying down is a whole different sensation that sort of blows the mind. Also, the inline twists and corkscrew are floaty and buttery smooth. This coaster also has fantastic interactions with the terrain/surroundings, including the dive off the midcourse toward the water (which results in a little splash if you are in the correct seat) and the following bit where the train flies right by the waterfall. I love everything about this ride, except being left hanging on the brake run for minutes on end when operations are slow.
4) Mako -- 6 rides, including 5 night rides. Now THIS is a B&M hyper!!!!!! The first drop gives excellent airtime, especially in the back row. The overbank following the first drop is nice and intense. But that first hill??? It is the most perfect floater airtime hill ever constructed. I don’t think that’s even debatable. It literally gives 5 to 6 solid seconds of airtime. I’ve never experienced anything else like it. The hills on the return run continue to provide good airtime, lifting you out of your seat for a second or two. The ending bit around the fountain provides a couple of fairly steeply banked turns that actually have the slightest bit of whip to them. This is simply a fantastic ride.
5) Kumba -- 3 rides, including 1 true night ride, with the other 2 being evening/almost-dark rides. Oh. My. God. My mind has been blown. Kumba is the prime example of the forcefulness and intensity that I love in a 90s B&M. The pacing is absolutely amazing. It is an inversion-packed layout that never lets up for a second. And every inversion delivers for me. Awesome positives from the vertical loop and dive loop, a super whippy zero-g roll, a nice cobra roll. The mid-course brakes do not hinder the intensity at all, as the second-half corkscrews still have great force to them. And I love the tunnel at the end, especially at night. This is a relatively smooth, well-maintained coaster as well. What a ride!!!!!!
6) SheiKra -- 2 rides, including 1 night ride. I liked SheiKra far more than I  expected I would after my disappointing experience with Valravn. Despite having a shorter drop and two fewer inversions, SheiKra is a much better ride, owing largely to the over-the-shoulder restraints, which actually allow for some airtime on the dives and don’t make me feel like I am going to suffocate. The 200-foot first drop is awesome, providing some good airtime on the way down. The Immelman gives good positive Gs. I particularly like the second drop into the tunnel. The splashdown at the end is a nice touch as well.
7) Kraken -- 2 rides. Kraken is very similar to Kumba, as it is also incredibly intense and well-paced with nonstop, back-to-back inversions. Additionally, Kraken's sequence of elements is almost identical to Kumba's, with the exception of a second vertical loop replacing one of Kumba’s corkscrews. Kraken gives great positives throughout, with all the loops, but especially the second vertical loop that goes down into a trench. There are several trenches on this ride, offering a lot of low-to-the-ground moments that add to the forcefulness. One of my favorite moments comes at the end, when you barrel through the tunnel and come flying out into that whippy corkscrew. It sort of depresses me to put Kraken below SheiKra, but I feel that I should for one reason. I hear enthusiasts bitching about a nonexistent "rattle" on B&Ms all the time, and to that I say, you haven't felt a rattle until you've been on Kraken in 2023. It holds this otherwise amazing ride back so much, it's depressing.
8) Cheetah Hunt -- 2 rides, including 1 night ride. After riding Maverick, I think it’s impossible not to be underwhelmed by Cheetah Hunt. With a bit more force in the launches and more whip in the heartline roll and banked turns, this would be an excellent ride. But as it is, the ride is still very fun. The three launches are fun (and necessary to keep the speed up as much as possible). The layout is interesting, with the big drop not coming at the very beginning of the ride. The heartline roll gives some hangtime, which is not really my favorite thing -- the lack of whip there is a real bummer. The banked turns that weave through the rocks and over the water are the best part of the ride. The hill after the third launch gives some decent airtime. Overall, the ride also makes great use of the terrain and surroundings.
9) Ice Breaker -- 1 ride. This ride is short, but still packs in some good elements. I like the backwards drop you get with the swing launch, although the vertical spike is extremely unimpressive and does not feel beyond-vertical, especially if you are sitting toward the front of the train. The best and most unexpected part of this ride is the surprisingly powerful ejector airtime, especially on the small hill just before the tophat, but also going over the tophat and on the small hills in the second half. I know everyone says it, but in this case, that's because it's true -- the comfort collars are garbage and really hold the airtime and the ride overall back. But this is still a good ride that I liked more than I thought I would.
10) Tigris -- 1 night ride. This is also a very short ride. Like Ice Breaker, Tigris provides that backwards dropping aspect, which is unique and fun. The slow heartline roll gives good hangtime, which again, isn't my favorite thing in the world. Going from the force of the launch that gets the ride up to max speed to the slow crawl at which the train takes the heartline roll is a weird transition. Nevertheless, the first half of the ride is pretty fun. The rest doesn't do much for me. Additionally, the comfort collar is even more obnoxious here than it is on Ice Breaker. It genuinely ruins the ride for me.
11) Cobra’s Curse -- 1 ride. Although this coaster obviously and purposely lacks in thrill, it is very enjoyable. I like the novelty of the elevator lift, and the spinning of the trains, although very tame and controlled, is a lot of fun. I wish the spinning lasted for the entire ride, rather than just the final third. The ride also provides really good views of the giraffes.
12) Sand Serpent -- 1 night ride. This is the standard wild mouse layout, with all the lateral-filled tight turns and almost-painful dips that make these rides good fun.

Footsteps: Two Sons Following Two Fathers in the World of Hockey
Tumblr media
Tim Army and Peter Laviolette Have Served as Lifetime Mentors Derek Army was a hockey player’s hockey player during his padded career, and he traveled every corner country trying to make his dream come true. And it kinda-sorta almost did. On September 19, 2017, Army was a Nashville Predator during the NHL’s preseason. These days, as the Nailers ride high on an 11-game winning streak, Army is chasing another dream, the real dream, the former forward insisted, is to coach at the highest level like his father, Tim did with the Capitals (1997-2002) and the Colorado Avalanche (2011-17). Army has been the man in charge for Wheeling since June 2021 and an interim and assistant coach before taking charge, and he’s already fifth all-time for most coaching victories (84) as the Nailers’ head coach. “It is an honor, honestly, to be the head coach here in Wheeling because this is the place where I played the majority of my playing career and I love it here,” Army said. “But hey, someday, I’d love to get to the NHL level. Of course, I do, and that’s why I’ve watched my Dad so closely during his career.” Derek Army has been the full-time head coach in Wheeling since the beginning of the 2021-22 season. Army, though, isn’t the only one on the Nailers’ bench with the whole “follow my father to the NHL” goal. One of his players – the one who wears #11, stands at 6-4, and was born in Wheeling in December 1997 when his dad was Wheeling’s head coach at the time – wishes for the same destiny. Wheeling forward Peter Laviolette III, son of Peter and Kristen Laviolette, is in his second season with the Nailers because, yes, he loves to play the game, but also because he’s a student of the sport. “(Army) reminds me a lot of my Dad and the way I’ve always seen my Dad go about what he does to be so successful at the highest level, so yeah, I watch Coach (Army) closely because that’s what I want to do in the game,” he said. “I wanna be a coach in the NHL like my Dad.” The Laviolette family traveled to Wheeling when the record-setting NHL coach was inducted into the Nailers' Hall of Fame in March 2023. Laviolette II currently is the head coach for the New York Rangers, the same team he played 12 games for during the 1988-89 NHL season, and his squad currently is in first place in the Metropolitan Division with 69 points (33-16-3). He coached the Carolina Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup in 2006, guided the Flyers to the finals in 2010, and Nashville, too, in 2017. He is the winningest American-born head coach in NHL history. “My father has had an incredible amount of success in his career and we’re all very proud of him. It’s his passion and I love to watch him work,” junior Laviolette said. “He started his head coaching career here in Wheeling so that’s why I think it’s awesome I’m here now learning a ton from Coach ‘Arms’. “I love playing the game, I really do, but I know if I’m going to stay in it, it’s going to be as a coach,” he said. “(Army) has a great locker room because we all know we’re in it together, and my father does a lot of the same, too, with his players. It’s the right way to go.” Laviolette is not on the active roster for every Nailers game this season. Like Father, Like Son He and his brother and sister grew up in the world of hockey as Dad coached in New York, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Nashville, Washington, and now, New York again. He’s won more than 750 games and has advanced to the playoffs 13 times in 21 seasons. So, following his footsteps is one thing, but filling his shoes is completely another. “’Lavs is learning how he wants to go about coaching after his playing days are over, and I doubt he[s worried about matching what his father has done in the game. His father is the No. 1 American-born coach in the history of hockey,” Army said. “Plus, even though you’re a son, you still have different personalities because you’re different people. “And Lavs has a great mentor in his dad and here in Wheeling he’s able to see from a player’s perspective how things works and how we go about things on this level,” the head coach said. “So, that way he gets to formulate his own kind of coaching mind. It’s all part of the process. He'll take some things from his dad that he's learned all his life, and then there'll be some things from his playing experiences as he develops his own way of doing things.” While Laviolette will be on ice this evening against Reading, he’s not on the Nailers’ active roster every evening and doesn’t travel every road trip. “I’m working hard on my game so my teammates can count on me when I get my chances, and I’m also concentrating on taking advantage of the playing opportunities I get,” he explained. “I know (Army) has a job to do and he’s awesome at it and he makes me a better player every day. That’s why I believe he’ll get to where he wants to go in this game.” Read the full article

Virginia Commonwealth: 2022-23 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Champions
Tumblr media
NEW YORK (AP) — Jalen DeLoach had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and top-seeded VCU beat second-seeded Dayton 68-56 on Sunday to win the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the first time in eight years.
Ace Baldwin added 16 points and seven assists, sending the Rams (27-7) to the NCAA Tournament with a nine-game winning streak and a title that has often alluded them during an otherwise impressive run of consistency.
VCU had played in the A-10 final six times from 2013-21, winning just once in 2015 when it beat Dayton.
DaRon Holmes II tried to carry the Flyers (22-12) to their first A-10 title since 2003 and first NCAA bid in six years. Holmes had 28 points and 16 rebounds, but didn't get enough help in the second half. The 6-foot-10 sophomore was named the tournament's most outstanding player, averaging 22 points in three games at Barclays Center.
The Rams and Flyers split two regular-season games, decided by a total of three points. The rubber match was more of the same.
The Flyers bolted to a 10-point lead early in the second half, but Baldwin tied it at 47 with a 3 with 11:50 left in the second half and the Rams slowly edged away from there.
VCU converted three straight second-chance opportunities into seven points in the final 3 1/2 minutes, with DeLoach's work on the offensive glass spurring the effort. Brandon Johns muscled in a layup that gave the Rams a 65-56 lead with 1:57 left.
A day after Dayton's Toumani Camara went 12 for 13 from the floor in the semifinals against Fordham, he got into foul trouble and went scoreless in the first half against VCU. He fouled out with six points and six rebounds.
The 6-9 Mustapha Amzil stepped up to pair with Holmes to wear out the Rams inside. The two bigs combined to shoot 10 for 14 from the floor and score 29 points as Dayton took a 36-30 lead at halftime.
BIG PICTURE
The Atlantic 10 is all but certain to be a one-bid league in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005.
Typically one of the strongest mid-major conferences, the A-10 put six teams in the NCAA field in 2014 to cap a run of three years in which it had a total of 15 bids.
Dayton was 28-2 and on its way to being one of the top seeds in the 2020 NCAA Tournament before March Madness was cancelled by the pandemic.
But the conference has slipped over the past couple of seasons, putting only two teams in the NCAAs the last two seasons. And last season the A-10 needed a championship game upset by Richmond over Davidson to get that second team in via its automatic bid.
UP NEXT
Dayton: The Flyers haven't been in the NCAA Tournament since a run of four straight appearances from 2014-17. They'll hope for an NIT bid.
VCU: The Rams are back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2021 and 10th time since 2011.

The opening goal of every Premier League season since 1992
Tumblr media
Premier League opening day has become one of the best weekends in the football calendar, if not the best.Raucous crowds recharged after a summer off, new signings galore and just about everyone rounding off a day of football with - you guessed it - more football in Match of the Day. And with there being few better feelings than the roar through a crowd as a goal gets bundled in, the first one of the season is pretty special.90min has gathered every opening goal of the season since the Premier League's inaugural campaign.
Tumblr media
Deane at Old Trafford / Anton Want/Getty ImagesOfficially the first person to ever score a Premier League goal, it took Deane just five minutes to find the back of the net against Manchester United on opening day.Playing for Sheffield United at the time, he left for Leeds at the end of that season and eventually retired in 2006 after two more spells with the Blades.
Tumblr media
Beagrie in his later years for Scunthorpe / Gary M. Prior/Getty ImagesRegarded as one of England's best wingers in the final few years of the old First Division, Beagrie bundled in the opening goal of 1993/94 for Everton. The Toffees won 2-0 away from home on opening day, but ended up finishing just a point above the relegated Saints in 17th that season. Fine margins.

Kevin Campbell of Arsenal / Clive Brunskill/Getty ImagesWhen not running a record label with Mark Morrison signed up, Campbell was scoring the first goal of the season as an Arsenal academy product in 1994.Having come through the youth team, the English striker put one past Manchester City after just two minutes in an eventual 3-0 win at Highbury. His best spell came at Everton after signing in 1999, following a spell in Turkey.
Tumblr media
Shearer in Blackburn colours / Gary M. Prior/Getty ImagesNo, this wasn't some weird, three-way, WWE-esque tag team goal. That probably would've been less weird, though, admittedly. In the 1995/96 season, the opening goal honour was bizarrely shared between Shearer, Ekoku and Williamson who all bagged in their respective games at the five minute mark. Proper glitch in the matrix.
Tumblr media
Stig Inge Bjornbye for the Reds / Clive Brunskill/Getty ImagesA no nonsense full back, Bjornebye bagged his first goal for Liverpool and the first goal of the 1996/97 season in a wild 3-3 draw against Middlesbrough.A free-kick saw the Norwegian in over the top after just three minutes and set the tone for a fine personal campaign that saw him make the Team of the Year as a key player in the Reds' strongest title charge in years.
Tumblr media
Tino is a Newcastle hero / Stu Forster/Getty ImagesSigning from arguably Parma's greatest side in February 1996, 'Tino' Asprilla was a hit after completing his move to Newcastle in the middle of a snowstorm. He came to life first at the beginning of the 1997/98 campaign, opening the scoring after just two minutes against Sheffield Wednesday in an iconic season that also saw him score a hat-trick against Barcelona.
Tumblr media
United watch on as Heskey knocks it in / Stu Forster/Getty ImagesA remarkable, mazing run by Muzzy Izzet was finished off in poacher's fashion by Heskey to silence Old Trafford after just seven minutes on the opening day in 1998.An early lead was doubled after 76 minutes, but United fought back in trademark fashion to nab a late 2-2 draw against Leicester in a fine fixture.
Tumblr media
Carl Cort in action / Tony O'Brien/Getty ImagesFour years at Wimbledon was about as good as it got for Cort, who set the season going in 1999 against Watford after just ten minutes. We say that, but Cort went onto play for Marbella and the Tampa Bay Rowdies later on in his career. Infinitely more fun sounding than some silly Premier League goal stat.
Tumblr media
Venus holds up play / Jamie McDonald/Getty ImagesNot only were Ipswich in the Premier League in the 21st century, they were the team opening the scoring for the season in 2000.Venus' opener after nine minutes wasn't enough for a win, however, as Tottenham rallied and won 3-1 on the day. Still, the result was forgotten as Ipswich finished fifth that season.
Tumblr media
Bolton celebrate Nolan's strike / Michael Steele/Getty ImagesBreaking through at a Bolton side where only the sky seemed to be the limit in the 2000s, a young Nolan got the Premier League off and running after 15 minutes in 2001.Promoted to the Premier League ahead of the campaign, Nolan's strike set them off to a flying 5-0 trouncing of Leicester on the opening day.
Tumblr media
Bolton in their iconic Reebok kit / Michael Steele/Getty ImagesThe tricky Wanderers opened the scoring before anyone else a season later too, going for back-to-back opening day goals.A goal after four minutes from Ricketts didn't get them off to as good a start, though, as they were the ones being thrashed this time round, losing 4-1 to Fulham.
Tumblr media
Dunn holds up a challenge / Ben Radford/Getty ImagesIt was a dream start for Dunn in 2003, bagging on his official debut for Birmingham after a red hot pre-season.It did take 36 minutes, though, which is rather boring. More end to end stuff, please, Premier League.
Tumblr media
Cisse's injury was a bad one / Phil Cole/Getty ImagesGetting his move to the Premier League after years of solid work with Auxerre, Cisse wasted no time in getting off the mark in 2004 against Tottenham.A debut strike and the opening goal of the season showed promising signs for a now Michael Owen-less Liverpool. Cisse's season came to a shocking halt in October, however, when he suffered a seriously nasty leg break.
Tumblr media
A scoring start in Ruud's final season / Clive Brunskill/Getty ImagesUnited got off to a flyer in 2005/06 in search of a first Premier League title since 2003, with Van Nistelrooy bagging the opener in a 2-0 win over Everton. It wasn't enough, though, as Chelsea retained the title and Van Nistelrooy left for Real Madrid come the end of the season.
Tumblr media
Hulse runs off to celebrate / Jamie McDonald/Getty ImagesGood form had earned Hulse a chance in the Premier League with promoted newboys Sheffield United, and he was a natural from the off.The striker bagged on his debut against Liverpool, wriggling away and heading home from a free-kick in a 1-1 draw. Hulse had a fine personal campaign, finishing as the Blades' top scorer.
Tumblr media
The dream start / Alex Livesey/Getty ImagesHaving broken through and played his early years at Newcastle, Chopra needed a big impact to get Sunderland fans on his side following his move to the Stadium of Light in 2007.How did he do it? By coming off the bench and bagging the first goal of the season in the 90th minute against Spurs, giving Sunderland an opening day win having just been promoted to the Premier League.
Tumblr media
Nasri was an instant hit / LEON NEAL/Getty ImagesBack to business with some much quicker goals, Nasri got the Barclays off the mark after just four minutes in 2008.Arsenal were suddenly obsessed with their new French number eight, who proved to be an instant hit in England with endless creativity and flair in front of goal.
Tumblr media
Hunt celebrates his goal / Hamish Blair/Getty ImagesAnother season, another debut goal. It was a dream start for Hunt at Hull following his summer move, bagging just 28 minutes into his debut at Chelsea.Unfortunately, Hunt was remembered by Chelsea fans for being the one who collided with Petr Cech in 2006 which resulted in a skull fracture. The Blues won in injury time.
Tumblr media
Kalinic has had a healthy career since / Clive Brunskill/Getty ImagesThriving under Sam Allardyce, Kalinic got Blackburn firing at the beginning of the 2010/11 campaign after just 14 minutes, donning the number nine on his back ahead of his second season with the club.Since falling out with Steve Kean and leaving Blackburn, Kalinic has gone on and played for Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Fiorentina. Not bad.
Tumblr media
Suarez could've had two on the day / Clive Brunskill/Getty ImagesHaving signed for Liverpool in January 2011 and hit the ground running with what remained of the 2010/11 campaign, Suarez wasted no time in 2011/12.The Uruguayan had his first goal of the campaign after 12 minutes, but could've finished with a brace had he scored an earlier penalty. The miss allowed Sunderland to grab a point through Seb Larsson.
Tumblr media
You know the celebration... / Richard Heathcote/Getty ImagesSeeing Michu and 2012/13 in the same sentence is enough to send chills down your spine.Signing for Swansea for just £2m, the Spaniard bagged the first goal of the season in stunning fashion, sweeping a pass first time into the top corner against QPR. The first of an iconic 22 goal season.
Tumblr media
Sturridge was on it / Clive Brunskill/Getty ImagesThe first kick-off of the day, Liverpool wasted no time getting to business under Brendan Rodgers with a 1-0 win over Stoke.Picking up the ball several yards outside the box, a prime Sturridge rifled it low and into the corner to get the first of 25 goals across all competitions. A fully fit Sturridge was a menace.
Tumblr media
Swansea caught United out / Alex Livesey/Getty ImagesFresh off the back of a loan with Sunderland, Ki got off to a flying start in 2014/15, bagging the season's first goal as Swansea caused an upset at Old Trafford.Ki stalked the ball down from the edge of the box before hitting it first time to beat David de Gea from distance as Swansea wound up 2-1 winners.
Tumblr media
Walker bundled into Rooney for the OG / Matthew Ashton - AMA/Getty ImagesA classic to get the 2015/16 season underway, the only thing separating United and Spurs was an own goal. With Wayne Rooney about to finish off a cross, Walker was running in from behind and momentum took his foot through the ball and past Hugo Lloris. Had to make a challenge.
Tumblr media
Hull shocked the champions / Michael Regan/Getty ImagesPerhaps the greatest Premier League opening goal of them all, Diomande announced Hull's return to the top flight in obscene fashion. On the stroke of half-time, the Norwegian hurled himself into the air and bagged with an overhead kick to give Hull the lead over champions Leicester, before winning the game 2-1.
Tumblr media
A £53m debut / Catherine Ivill - AMA/Getty ImagesJoining Arsenal for a £53m fee that summer, it took just two minutes for Lacazette to look like he was worth every penny, bagging an almost immediate debut goal.Heading beyond Kasper Schmeichel, the Frenchman finished up with a respectable 17 goals in all competitions that season.
Tumblr media
He scored, eventually / Laurence Griffiths/Getty ImagesLeicester were on the receiving end of the first goal of the season three times on the bounce. Surely at that point it's more than just a fluke.Inflicting the damage the third time around was Pogba, fresh off the back of becoming a world champion. Using that terrifying yet endlessly composed run up, Pogba bagged from the spot as United won 2-1.
Tumblr media
Liverpool were ruthless / Michael Regan/Getty ImagesIn perhaps the strangest season of football ever, an own goal kicking off the campaign should've served as a warning sign.Hanley was the unfortunate scorer for Norwich after just seven minutes as Liverpool ran riot in order to set their title charge alight the correct way with a 4-1 win. The Philadelphia Flyers named Michel Therrien and Mike Yeo assistants to coach Alain Vigneault on Monday.
"Both men have enjoyed success at all levels throughout their coaching careers, including working together at the NHL level," said Vigneault, who was hired as Flyers coach April 15. "Each brings a considerable amount of experience and knowledge to our group, which I have no doubt will help lead our team to immediate success."
Therrien and Yeo worked together for four seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins (2005-06 to 2008-09), with Therrien as coach and Yeo one of his assistants.
In addition to coaching the Penguins, Therrien has had two stints as coach of the Montreal Canadiens. In 12 NHL seasons he is 406-303-82 with 23 ties in 814 games.
Yeo replaced Ken Hitchcock as coach of the St. Louis Blues on Feb. 1, 2017 and went 73-49-11 before being fired Nov. 19. Previously, he coached the Minnesota Wild from the start of the 2011-12 season to Feb. 13, 2016, when he was fired after going 184-149-44.
The Flyers also announced Scott Gordon, who went 25-22-4 after Dave Hakstol was fired Dec. 17, will return to his previous job as coach of Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League. Kerry Huffman, who replaced Gordon when he moved to the Flyers, will remain as an assistant.

Anderson's father was an entrepreneur.[6] As a teenager at San Pasqual High in Escondido, California, Anderson was a computer hacker under the pseudonym "Lord Flathead" (friends with Bill Landreth), and prompted a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raid after he cracked the security of Chase Manhattan Bank. He was not arrested because of his young age (14).[7][8]
Anderson studied English and rhetoric at the University of California, Berkeley, prior to becoming the lead singer of a band called "Swank".[6] Anderson then lived in Taiwan for some time, before returning to the United States to study for a degree in critical film studies at the University of California, Los Angeles.[4][9]
Career[edit]
Anderson was a product tester and copywriter at XDrive, a digital storage company in 2000, where he first met DeWolfe.[9] He initially joined XDrive as a product tester after answering a flyer advertisement, while still at film school and looking to earn extra money.[10] After XDrive went bankrupt in 2001, he and DeWolfe founded the direct marketing company ResponseBase.[4][9] They sold ResponseBase to Brad Greenspan's eUniverse in late 2002.[6]
With other eUniverse employees, Anderson set up the first pages of Myspace in August 2003. He founded the site partly as a reaction to Friendster and its policy of blocking accounts that did not use real names.[11] Intermix Media was then founded as the successor of eUniverse, and it was under Intermix that Myspace garnered the level of popularity for which it is notable. When Intermix Media and Myspace were sold to News Corp, Anderson became president of the company.[4]
Myspace was sold to News Corp in 2005 for $580 million.[12] Following the News Corp acquisition, Anderson said: "Before [the acquisition], I could do whatever I wanted. Now it takes more time to get people to agree on things. All the budget reviews and processes. That can be a pain. But it's not stopping us."[6] Reuters quoted an unnamed News Corp executive as saying: "Tom [Anderson] was responsible for the product, but ended up being a complete bottleneck on getting things done."[13] Anderson was replaced as president in April 2009 by News Corp;[14] by 2010, he was no longer the default friend on Myspace, and was replaced by a profile called "Today On MySpace," or "T.O.M."[15]
In late May 2012, Anderson announced that he would be joining RocketFrog Interactive as an adviser to the 16-person Los Angeles–based company, which created a Facebook app.[12] However, in a September 2014 interview, Anderson did not mention any advisory roles in his life at the time, while his Twitter blurb in November 2018 read: "Enjoying being retired” and similarly in January 2021, “Enjoying the good life / New Hobby: Photography.”[16] He explained in the interview that he is not interested in returning to his previous vocation, but concluded: "I'll never say 'never' because, more than anything, I like the idea that anything can happen. I don't know exactly where my life will lead. Adventure and the unknown has always been appealing to me."[17]
Media appearances[edit]
Anderson made a cameo appearance in the 2009 American comedy-drama film Funny People starring Adam Sandler.[18]
Personal life[edit]
Anderson is active on other social media platforms, including Facebook and Reddit. Following an experience with photography at the 2011 Burning Man festival, Anderson's interest in his own photography was piqued. In a September 2014 ABC Newsinterview, Anderson credited friend and photographer Trey Ratcliff for facilitating his skill development and explained: "I'm not necessarily trying to represent nature exactly. I'm trying to make something beautiful like a painter would." Anderson travels globally with friends to locations such as Thailand and Myanmar, where he primarily focuses upon landscape images.[17]
Anderson also explained in September 2014 that his personal interests have always been diverse:
If you knew me before Myspace, you'd probably thought I'd have been a scholar teaching philosophy in a university my whole life. If you met me before college, you'd probably have thought I'd be a musician for my entire life ... I like change.[17]
