Dhoni played his last global in 2019 yet remains one of the country's most famous players, and keeping in mind that the 42-year-old made it clear that things are pulling back last season he actually assisted Chennai with bringing home a fifth championship to match Mumbai Indians' take.
Media reports have said 2024 could be the previous India captain's final appearance and the wicketkeeper-batsman, who had knee medical procedure last year, gave over the captaincy to batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad in front of Friday's (22) opener.

Ramadan 2024: Find out why Saudi Arabia’s Prince Mohammad Bin Salman banned iftar in mosques ahead of Ramadan
Tumblr media
It’s important to clarify that Prince Mohammad Bin Salman did not personally implement this specific ban.
In February 2024, in preparation for Ramadan, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Call, which is responsible for mosques in the kingdom, announced new regulations regarding Ramadan practices. These regulations included a ban on holding Iftar meals (fast-breaking meals) inside mosques.
Here’s a breakdown of the key points:
What was banned: Holding Iftar meals inside mosques.
Who implemented the ban: The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Call, not Prince Mohammad Bin Salman individually.
Reasons for the ban:
Cleanliness concerns: The Ministry stated that Iftar preparations and leftover food could potentially compromise the cleanliness of the mosques.
Promoting designated spaces: The aim was to encourage people to use designated areas outside mosques, such as courtyards, for Iftar gatherings.
Additional regulations:
Donation restrictions: The Ministry also banned the collection of donations by imams (prayer leaders) within mosques specifically for Iftar meals.
Technology restrictions: Cameras inside mosques for filming prayers or broadcasting them through media were also prohibited.
It’s important to note that:
This is a recent development, and the long-term impact of these regulations remains to be seen.
The regulations primarily address logistical and administrative concerns within mosques, not religious practice itself.
Ramadan traditions and practices in Saudi Arabia can evolve over time, and these regulations reflect the current approach of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Call.

The cricket sport's popularity in India is nothing short of a religion, and its history is a fascinating tale of passion, perseverance, and pride. One of the pivotal moments in Indian cricket history was the appointment of the first captain of the Indian cricket team. This historic figure played a crucial role in shaping the future of Indian cricket and setting the stage for the incredible success that followed. In this article, we delve into the past to uncover the identity of India's first cricket captain.
The Birth of Indian Cricket:
Cricket arrived in India during the colonial era when the British brought the sport to the subcontinent. The first recorded cricket match in India took place in 1721 in Calcutta (now Kolkata), but it was not until the late 19th century that the sport began to gain popularity among Indians.
In 1911, an Indian team played its first-ever cricket test match against England at Lord's Cricket Ground in London. This historic moment marked the beginning of India's journey as an international cricketing nation. However, India did not have an official captain for this match, and the team was led by multiple captains during the tour.
The First Official Captain:

Asia Cup is in danger because of Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh is not keen to take part in the UAE
Tumblr media
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, is being considered as an alternative venue for the championship, but the PCB appears to be hesitant to be a part of the competition if their demands aren’t met. © Getty
While things appear to be more settled regarding things to come with the World Cup in India, the future of the Asia Cup in Pakistan looks very uncertain. The recent disturbances, which came following the arrest of the former Premier Imran Khan may have caused more problems and the source of this can be traced to the hybrid strategy that has been proposed to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) suggested in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
According to Cricbuzz, the PCB, the favored host, wants to hold the Asia Cup in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, with the various Indian cricket teams traveling to each location. However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) weren’t in agreement to play the games in the UAE due to the heat of September in the UAE.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, is emerging as an alternative venue for the championships continental, however, the PCB is hesitant to be a part of the event if their demands are not fulfilled. The organization has indicated that it would withdraw in the event that the tournament is relocated. It is believed that the SLC as well as the BCB have both cited the heat as one of the reasons in September as a reason for their refusal to participate in tournaments held within the UAE however the PCB is believed to have claimed that a couple of tournaments were played in the past in September. At a meeting with BCB as well as SLC officials, PCB director Najam Sethi who was in Dubai in the past few days, mentioned that there was a fifty-over Asia Cup held in the year 2018 from September 15 until 28. For this, the BCCI was chosen as the host.
He also said that in 2022, while the SLC was hosting the event for the Asia Cup, there was an Asia Cup in the Twenty20 format that was played from August 27 until September 11. He further mentioned as evidence that the IPL was played from September through November of 2020, in the country of the desert. In addition, the PCB was believed to be the one who pushed for the hybrid model between Pakistan and UAE but if it fails, it would remove.
It’s a fact that a lot of Indian cricketers complained about the heat in the 50-over Asia Cup, which had to start at lunchtime when it is typically considered extremely humid in UAE. Other events included the Twenty20 championships that could start in the evenings.
The Board of Control of Cricket in India [BCCI], which has its administrator Jay Shah helping as the head of the ACC has not reacted to it. There is no decision taken, but from the look evidence, it appears that the event appears to be in peril.

Men in Blue - Cats painted with Tiger stripes
Tumblr media
For the Indian team, yet another knock out match; yet another knocked out result and that is pretty familiar to the Indian fans. Indians have had the habit of choking when it mattered the most. The Indian Cricket team getting thrashed mercilessly by the English team in the T20 WC semi final bore a sorry sight, not just for the fans, but for the administrators & support staff running the Cricket team who were blinking at the way Indian team perished like minnows.
All is not well in the team composition heading into the WC was pretty much evident by the way the team struggled even in the league matches, barely scraping through in some of the outings. And when it mattered the most in the crucial semi final knock out match which was a do or die, the discrepancies & the fault lines were glaring for everyone to see. Indian top order yet again crumbled only to be bailed out by a rear guard action from Hardik Pandya to put up a 'not so' winning score but yet some decent score on the board.
When it came to bowling, the bowlers looked lost & appeared like perplexed kids in the stadium, not knowing how to control the rampaging English openers who sent the ball all over the ground, severely punishing the mediocre Indian bowlers. In a sport, it is not about losing, but it's all about how a team is losing. Indians lost the game in a most embarrassing manner, even putting a staunch fan to hang his head down in utter shame.
So, what went wrong for the team?
Almost everything. No solid opening batting, absence of impeccable bowling in the death, inconsistency & most importantly shabby body language compounded by half hearted and amateurish approach in such a high profile International showcase event. Their scale up to semi final had more luck element than their own performance. Losing matches or closely winning against great gun teams & winning comfortably against minnows has been the hallmark of this team. When the team entered the semi final game against England, they looked visibly nervous and that exposed the lack of confidence in the team's campaign. In the end, the magnitude of defeat tells you the story.
Rahul Dravid, the legendary player now as a head coach seems to be heading for a monumental failure in his new avatar as the head coach. When the team went to the WC with some crucial absentees like Bumrah & Jadeja, the management & the coach ought to have made Plan B & Plan C to compensate for the absence. Instead, they indulged in the usual shuffling of players before the matches. The job of the coach is to think out of the box and come up with solutions for the team which was grappling with familiar sloppiness. Non usage of power play, taking a very conservative approach on various aspects of the game during the times of rapidly changing T20 format bores the signature attitude of Rahul Dravid, who in his prime was not an attacking player in a T20 mode.
What should the board do?
Surgeries. The team and its management needs immediate & urgent surgeries by way of sacking the ageing and non performing players without much delay. Players like Rohit, Rahul, Pant, Ashwin & Dinesh Karthik have to be dropped straight away. Rohit Sharma's poor form has been shielded by his captaincy. which means he must be removed as the captain with immediate effect. India needs a strong, lateral thinking and a high performance coach instead of a lackluster Rahul Dravid, whose services as a player & as NCA head is commendable. But he has failed as a head coach looking at the way India bit the dust both in Asia Cup & the T20 WC.
For all their artificially built up glory & fame, Indian players at the end of T20 WC campaign, appeared like the cats painted with the stripes of Tigers!
