Throw Back Week - October Break 2016 in Bali, Indonesia
You would think that when you live on a tropical island you wouldn’t go on vacation to another (even smaller) tropical island... but come on it’s BALI.
It was not our first time in Bali but we had just moved to Singapore a couple months before and it was an easy solution for our October break.... and come on it’s BALI.
We opted however to get away from the touristy part of the island around Seminyak and go to the East of the island around Amed. It’s more well known for the great diving than the fine sand beach. However they have black sand beach thanks to being close to Mount Aging, Bali’s largest volcano plus the drive among the rice fields is well worth it.
We also stop, on our way back, for a couple day in Ubud. It is known as a center of traditional crafts and dance and in the last few years has become a little hipster.

On a side note: while in Amed we rented diving equipment from the shop near our hotel and one of the receptionist happened to be French.... from my little 1000-inhabitant village in France. How wild!! I didn’t know her, she is way younger than me and she arrived after I had moved to the States but my cousins knew her! #TheWorldIsASmallPlace.

Just an reminder: Inspired by the Throw Back Thursday of our summer vacation I did in July and August and since we cannot travel again during this October Break, I’ve decided to revisit the idea with a Throw Back Week of our trips around Asia during school vacation for the past 6 years. It’s not because we cannot physically travel that we cannot at least escape in our head.  Enjoy the trip down memory lane ;-)

Throw Back Week - October Break 2015 in Delhi, Agra & Jaipur, India
This has been a long awaited trip. I have been wanting to go to India since our first posting in China (2006-2009) but hubby wasn’t keen on the idea. I kept bugging and thought that I might have to go on my own (most likely with a group of photographers) when all of a sudden I heard “How about we go to see the Taj Mahal on our next vacation?” (thank you to whoever mentioned their trip at the office 🙄)
Turned out that it was one of his favorite trip ever. (Moral of the story: always listen to wifey 😜)
There are a few places that will stay with you and seeing the Taj Mahal with your own eyes is one of them (walking on the Great Wall of China is another one for me and I’m thinking Petra in Jordan is probably another one that I would like to experience).
We cannot say we visited india (just like you cannot say you’ve visited China by just going to Beijing, they are such vast and diverse countries ) but we did Old Delhi and New Delhi, Agra with the Taj and the red Fort and Jaipur with Amber Fort. The typical triangle visited by most when they are in this part of India.
The highlights were that the perfect timing of our trip allowed us to visit the Taj at night (only around the full moon -two days prior, the day of and two days after- for 4 hours per day with a limited number of people (50 people) by batch of 30 minutes. So only 400 people per day or around 2000 per month.) and having my picture taken by an old street photographer with its box camera and he knew my friend Lucas who did a documentary about those camera box. #SmallWorldAgain
Incredible India indeed. All the photos here: https://atotaltaitaitale.tumblr.com/tagged/c%26jIndia/chrono

Singapore where the airport is a great place to take your date 😉
Going down memory lane this past 2 weeks with October Break Throw Back and this summer with Throw Back Thursday of our summer vacation I realize how lucky we’ve been to visit so many amazing places ... and this was just the vacation I had documented on this blog, Facebook was kind (or is it cruel this year?) enough to remind me of our other October Breaks trips: London in 2011, Prague in 2010, Rome in 2009, Tokyo/Kyoto in 2008 and Guilin & in 2007.
“Actually, the best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures.” –Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
2015 was quite the year, trips wise. From my trip in Nepal with a slice of earthquake to the trip in North Korea, I clocked in 10 countries in 12 months that year Vs 0 country in 12 months in 2020... maybe I should go on a nostalgic trip to Changi Airport

Inspired by the Throw Back Thursday of our summer vacations in the past 6 years,  I’m revisiting the idea once again with a post each day of a trip from our past October Breaks.
It’s not because we cannot physically travel that we cannot at least escape in our head.
Enjoy the trips down memory lane... for those of you who have been following since the beginning of this blog and for the others the chance to discover old postings ;-)
Throw Back Week - October Break 2019 in Komodo and Flores National Parks, Indonesia.
This was quite the journey to reach those gems but places out of reach are more often than not oh so worthy.
Amazing 3-day cruise around Komodo National Park with amazing views from Pagar Island, stopping at Pink beaches and walking amongst the Komodo Dragons, followed by 5 days on Flores Island with rice fields, quaint villages and breathtaking sunset on top of Kelimutu and the 3 color lakes and we finish our trip like we started it for a night in Labuan Bajo.
To see the pictures of this amazing trip of slightly more remote indonesia you’ll have to follow the link: https://atotaltaitaitale.tumblr.com/tagged/c&jFlores/chrono

Throw Back Week - Solo Trip 2015 in North Korea
Let’s end this Throw Back October Breaks series with a bang 😎
So this one was not a photography (per se) trip nor a “en amoureux” trip either. It was a “ 20 years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do…. Sail away from the safe harbor… Explore. Dream. Discover” Mark Twain. Here’s the post where I explain: https://atotaltaitaitale.tumblr.com/post/134729643366/celinenorthkorea
As usual all the pictures of the trip are here: https://atotaltaitaitale.tumblr.com/tagged/CelineInNorthKorea/chrono

Throw Back Week - Weekend Get Away Trip 2017 in Brunei
So this trip was not a photography trip but a “En Amoureux” trip. Yep some couples go to exotic/paradise island weekend away I chose to go to Brunei 😎.
Hubby was going regularly to Bandar Seri Begawan (that’s the capital) and he mentioned that if I wanted to ever visit it (and put a check next to it on my “Countries Visited” list) I should do it rather sooner than later as the business trips were not going to go on forever. It was a pleasant trip and if you check out the link you’ll learn a few trivia things about this interesting nation. (The length i go to make you click on those links 😂) https://atotaltaitaitale.tumblr.com/tagged/c&jBrunei/chrono

Throw Back Week - Solo Photography Trip 2019 in Dhaka, Bangladesh
So I ran out of October Break family trips that I could share a link with you but I thought I would share 3 more trips (because 3 more days of the October Break Week off) which were taken around the same time (usually in November).
This is NOT a family trip but one of my yearly solo photography trip and probably one of my favorite (photography) trip, with the one in Nepal. Truly a trip that would stay with me.
While going thru the photos of the trip to choose one for this post.... I just couldn’t decide because there were SO many favorite. So I chose the one of our group... we called ourselves the f/stopper ;-)
If there is one link you need to click on, out of all those I have posted of my Throw Back series, this is the ONE: https://atotaltaitaitale.tumblr.com/tagged/CelineInBangladesh/chrono/

Throw Back Week - October Break 2017 in Luang Prabang, Laos
Luang Prabang is often a long weekend destination from Singapore or a stop during a Loas trip but we decided to extended our stay to 6 days, first because we couldn’t do a multi destination as C. needed internet access to study for her exams and we thought we would do a little be of slow traveling.
We ended up loving the slow pace, going multiple time to the same cafe for our breakfast and getting to see the buddhist monks collect the alms in the early morning, going several time to the open market (and night market) and justnplainly enjoying the a UNESCO world heritage site.
We unfortunately planned to go to turquoise color Kuang Si Falls the day after a big storm so turquoise the water was not but not every experience needs to be instagram photo worthy, there’s beauty everywhere (but do check the photo in the link below 😉)
