Tony was just heading towards his next table and almost flushed when he realised who his next patron was.
“Cheryl.”
Cheryl cringed internally, just great, he’s my server.
“Oh hi Tony, how’re you?” she said, determined to not get irritated with him. Ever since she’d broken up with him after Althea’s wedding nearly a year previously, Tony had stopped to speak to her every time he got a chance.
It was getting infuriating, especially when she guessed it was because he realised the value she was when he lost her.
He grinned at her, a more genuine one that the ones he used to give her. It wasn’t his smooth-talker grin, it looked almost shy and sheepish. “I’m...doing alright. How’re you? You look great.”
Cheryl almost rolled her eyes “I’m starving, can I get some food please?”

“Hi Roselyn, how’s the gallery doing today?” Cheryl asked.
Roselyn smirked “Well the good news is that I made §500. The bad news is that it was one of the paintings you registered an interest in. Would you be interested in any of the others?”
“Course, what ones would you recommend?”
“Well I am biased, seeing as I painted them all” Roselyn said with a laugh. “But I’d say the red forest one to your left. Make me your best bid, nobody else was interested in that one and I’m taking that one down tonight.”
“Hmm” Cheryl said, casting her eyes over said painting. “How about §250 for it?”
“Wow, that was a lot higher than I expected!” Roselyn said. “Everyone in this town is very generous, unless you want to revise the bid?”
“How about §200, and I’ll write a good review of the gallery in the Chronicle?” Cheryl offered.
“Briony has taught you far too well” Roselyn laughed. “Sure, it’s a deal.”

“C’mon Chezza, open up!”
“I didn’t mean it!”
“She’s nothing compared to you!”
“You’re the only woman in the world for me!”
Every night since the wedding...isn’t he getting bored of doing this now?
I know I am!

“Don’t be like that” Tony told her, annoyed at his lack of temper. “I...It’s hard to explain why I like Cheryl so much. Why do I want her more when she dumped me?”
“Humans have a tendency to want things they can never have, or are difficult to get” Angelica said wisely. “I’m not surprised that you want to be back with her. She didn’t put up with your shit and you did disrespect her Tony. I can’t blame the woman.”
“Even if that means her loss is your reward?” he asked her suggestively.
Cheryl was still irritated by Tony’s constant persistence.
It didn’t help her own restraint. She had been devastated by her own choice to dump him, but she knew it was the right thing to do for her.
Tony would never change, he would never love her and support her alone. It would be her, until she was distracted and he’d be looking somewhere else.
She needed someone to be there, for her, and trust that he wouldn’t stray from her.

Cheryl knew she was an attractive woman and she’d not had trouble in the past with getting a good looking man to fancy her.
She’d never struggled to get rid of a man when she dumped him though.
She wasn’t sure what Tony’s motive was here.
Did he want her?
Did he want a girl he could shag and then play the field behind her back?
She still liked and did miss Tony, but he’d cheated on her and still hadn’t apologised for it, even if he pleaded that he wanted her as well.
Well too bad, she thought. If a guy wanted her, she would be the only one they would want.
“Fuck off to bed Tony!” she called as he started banging his fist on her front door.

It was a busy and productive day at Grim Groceries.
A lot of the customers spotted Althea and Thomas and made beelines for them both, to congratulate them on their marriage and to hope their honeymoon went well.
As well as promoting Emmy to a manager, Thomas had also hired two new employees who were well trained and were able to get into the grove of business.
He also made to sure that all the stock was replenished and that there would be regular and accurate deliveries, due on specific days of the week, so that Emmy had all the tools at her disposal to run the store without calling Thomas every five minutes.
He was pleased with his choice.
Cheryl had already informed him a few weeks ago that she would be leaving and the dispute between her and Emmy seemed to be resolved itself, and the two women got on very well nowadays.

“Wait, what did you just say?!”
“It’s nothing Chez, it was just an idea...”
“What do you mean, you want to have a threesome?!”
“If you want to go shag someone else with another woman then fine, get lost and outta my sight!”
“I’m not sure what you think I’m like, but I’m a one-lover-at-a-time woman!”

“Tony, could you at least close the bathroom door whilst you're on the toilet?”
“Relax babe, it’s only a wee.”
“Don’t lie to me! Why are you sat down then? Blokes only sit down for a shit!”
