Idolish7 17 | Hinamatsuri 8 | Boueibu HK 8 | BnHA 46 | MSO 9 | Rokuhoudou 8 | Code:Realise 13
Idolish7 17 (FINAL)
The culture clash here is hilarious! It’s pretty obvious this unknown guy is Douglas, though.
I can’t believe they’re doing these songs! I’ve known about these songs for a while, since they made waves a few years back – I think Memories Melodies’s music video was animated by Studio Bones and Leopard Eyes by NAZ.
Come to think of it, they never really show idol shows from the fans’ perspective, so this girl’s shots (Aya’s?) are a new thing for the entire genre…
Huh? Wait…this is the real Aya! Oh my gosh!
Well, that’s the end of another show. See you around.
Hinamatsuri 8
Where is “home” for Hina, though?
Geesh, the continuity on this show…what they’re saying right now means the opening of the episode was in medias res, dangit. Stop being so confusing.
I don’t really care about Ikaruga, I care about the “Standing Sushi Bar” in the back more…sorry, Ikaruga.
A few episodes, Hina really was homeless…hmm, continuity’s back in action here.
“Hurray for Psychic Powers” – I was reminded of a book that once appeared in Kado. Unfortunately, that book’s name is Ningen Manzai with all kanji, so it’s not a very close reference if it’s intended to be one…
“Ma Monthly” – Well, wouldn’t you know it? Boueibu collabs mean something here! See, this magazine is a parody of Monthly Mu, which (for some arbitrary reason) decided to team up with Boueibu back in 2016. Hinamatsuri even parodies the magazine’s logo properly! Amazing!
More namahage gags. C’mon, they wouldn’t escape me. They’ve been appearing for a while now, those.
Last time an anime character had a master the same age…*thinks back* That would be Ore Monogatari, with Saijou! Man, that was a while ago. If you don’t count the “same age” bit though, you have OPM and BnHA, which are a lot more fresh.
Jojothan’s (sic)? Is that a Jojo reference, a Johnath…aww, it doesn’t seem to exist. Dangit.
Hitomi’s going to take the dog in, isn’t she?
Even Hina’s shirt says “byebye”…geez, this is kinda saddening already.
Now Hina’s shirt says “sayonara”…why did they poke a hose through her nose, anyway? It made me laugh, sure, but…it’s stupid anyway.
What does Hinamatsuri do without “Hina”, anyway?
Oh, so that’s the significance of that part (post-credits sequence, ep 1)! I didn’t like that part, so I wished to never see it again, but now that it has some significance…it can stay.
I don’t think I’ve seen that image of Nitta with the hand to his head, with the vases on the side before…it must be new.
Normally Hina’s in the seat next to Nitta, right? Oh dear. Also, Utako’s missing and you can see Nitta’s sister in the bar shot as well. The rock singers who wanted to go to the Budokan with Hina are in the back, too, although there may be some people I don’t recognise in the bar shot as well…
Jinsei wa Survival = Life is Survival, not Life is About Survival…
Boueibu HK 8
Summer episode! At least it doesn’t sound as bad a fanservice episode than episode 7 did…(for Astral’s sake)
Karurusu brought back En’s old “What did you say?!”, but now there’s a rakugo background! (small LOL)
I can’t believe Manza tried to push his glasses up in the bath (LOL). Is this what glasses-wearers have to go through?
These seem a little too specific…and to Wakura’s sadistic taste for that last one…to be anything Kyoutarou thought up on his own. (i.e. They probably actually happened.)
Huhhhhhh…I think we finally had an actual woman appear on this show…amazing! (The Osomatsus’ mother, she has a name but I forgot what her name is.) Must be Osomatsu-kun from the ‘60s or ‘80s though, because that sure as heck ain’t the “gets episode 1 pulled from Crunchyroll” Osomatsu-san. I watched the entire season one of that thing, remember?
That dot point looks like a shell for some reason. It’s just two circles put together though. My brain must be in a summer mood from the episode, eh?
I know there’s one jellyfish where you have to cure the sting by peeing on it…oh sorry. I’m falling into Mahou Shoujo Ore’s “crass jokes” trap…
Dougo…likes natto? Weird. Plain weird.
I almost thought they were going to go camping just to fulfil the gap left by YuruCamp, but I guess the audience for YuruCamp and Boueibu doesn’t really cross over. I’m such an anomaly in that case, huh? I still want to know Pinecone-chan’s VA, come to think of it…
Like, c’mon! I can’t even break down that joke (Rashio Taison), it’s too obvious from looking at his name in furigana!
So Rashio is like the snowman from season 2…and the volleyball guy from season 2…maybe Kurotori? I don’t remember his school circumstances anymore…
They used CGI on the plane…? If they did, I barely noticed it until I played the scene again.
Oh wait, that’s a Studio Comet plane…ahaha…(look at Studio Comet’s logo for the joke explanation)
*crashes head on wall* Martha Shirahone…*eyes blank*…Martha Shirahone…Martha’s a girl’s name!!! Does that mean Astral wins?! My pride and the Boueibu status quo have both been wrecked if Martha (sic) really is on the non-binary spectrum…and it’s not some weird Engrish typo…Poor boy though, he spent 4 years depriving himself of one of his favourite things to prevent himself from being teased. (Okay, this “Martha” spelling’s going to annoy me for a while, so I’m going to revert back to “Maasa”…)
Interestingly, Maasa seems to be using a standard vinyl umbrella and not a “student-council-worthy” one. Update: Nope, this one’s sanctioned by the British Royal Family.
Eh? What’s with this monster’s face? He doesn’t have one, does he? I know what the kanji on his face is, but…I think this might be a first. A monster without a face whatsoever.
Is it just me, or did they get CGI for those clouds as well…?
Wait, so even Karurusu is against the idea of fighting this monster? Mr Enthusiastic’s kinda selfish, eh?
Kyoutarou’s still wearing his school swimsuit. But this definitely reminds me of Dark Aurite with the lip coloration...
Wakura so obviously followed Ryoma’s voice instead. It’s pretty much what Astral termed a “nutshot” for MSO ep 8, only it’s…meant to be kinky (I’m not feeling it, y’know?). I’m just vaguely miffed right here that they could be trying to put a cheap joke in Boueibu.
Ooh, nagashi somen with its bamboo…thingy…looks cool. Oh, but Ibusuki…no wonder Ata likes this kind of noodles.
Karurusu’s flag says “summer” on it.
It’s a bit blurry, but the bus says “campground” as its destination.
I wonder if that “spirit of fear” thing was a joke? I’ll come back and find it later. Update: There’s no joke there in Japanese…the word for “spirit of fun” sounds like kyuuki and then “spirit of fear” is just dokidokishiteru (which is just a word for the heart pounding, suggesting nervousness in this case).
Hey, someone (Ryoma) noticed Taishi’s angry outbursts for once!
What, the monster has a mouth, so he does kind of have a face…? (I’m confused…what constitutes “face” with this guy anyway?)
Karurusu…he dab! (…Kind of.)
Full transformation sequence again…*sigh*
Noticeably, you can only see Ryoma nodding when the Rajio Taiso monster asks if you can do rajio taiso outside of summer. I’d assume this is because Ryoma’s the one with the grandpa who does it all year round, but it might just be a space constraint. You never know with these things.
There’s another pun I need to go back to – “I feel radio calis-cleansed”. That can’t have worked in Japanese…Update: Uh, there was actually one here. It seems to be a pun on taiso.
Aw, Rashio’s so happy. Even if I think the staff have reached a new low with the “petty” on the monsters this time around, just seeing that smile lights up my face too.
Why do I feel a Madoka moment coming on right here with Karurusu’s promise?
It’s a Kagerou Project-style time loop, but for August 31st! Yikes! This is going to get confusing…
Yeah, it’s better not to think about time loops, Kyoutarou. You’re right.
Is “firework” a verb? Or is that wasei-eigo? Or slang? Or both? More things to not think about there…methinks. Update: Dougo says “hanabi taikai shimashou!” (literally “let’s do a fireworks tournament!”), so it’s not wasei-eigo, nor is it a verb. It’s just an unconventional subber’s choice.
They censored a big sign in the preview! But Crunchyroll doesn’t have episode 9 yet because of the French Open! Dangit!
I love how the blue bars randomly go “La la la laaaaa!”…LOL. But it also says “they find party dice in the clubroom…” (because it’s bushitsu kara dete kita no wa party saikoro).
BnHA 46
“Those acts are the same as those of villains.” – Actually, that would be the acts of vigilantes…*thinks about the Vigilantes manga*
Because Kouta’s letter was in hiragana, I could understand most of it…eh, my skills are pretty shabby after all. I couldn’t even understand the last line much.
“like a pair of tight jeans” – LOL, Best Jeanist seems to love a good jeans pun, eh?
Come to think of it, Gran Torino doesn’t have a number to his hero status, right? He’s just an ol’ fart after all, even if he’s mighty skilled.
We haven’t seen Mt. Lady or Shinrin Kamui (“Forest Kamui” would probably be his English name, but it’s in katakana…and it sounds stupid, to boot) in a while, come to think of it.
I didn’t think Iida was going to go with them! Wow, what a twist!
I always thought having two Kirishimas in the same season was funny enough (Ryoma from Boueibu and Eijirou).
Kamino? Because the subbers spelt it with a C, that seems like it should be a reference for some reason…Update: Yep, it is!
What’s up with the roses around Todoroki? Are you trying to make the fangirls squeal like this is some shoujo manga? Yeah, right! (laughs in the background anyway)
Aizawa looks really different in a suit…hmm, I normally like men in suits but I’m kinda iffy on suit!Aizawa. *ponders for a second* I prefer his old style more, actually.
MSO 9
Noticeably, Michiru uses koitsu (“this guy”) to refer to Ore. It does tell you something about how Michiru views her enemies.
What’s up with Mohiro in a dress? Princess Peach parody?
Even Saki’s ahoge goes “Oh!”, LOL!
A heart shake for the yuri fans…and stupid glasses for my entertainment. (Thank goodness you’re still catering towards me, show…)
That joke about murdering Hyoue completely went over my head…I get what it was trying to do, but…not funny, man. Not funny.
Michiru uses the –ssu ending that Dougo and Yumoto use, too…
Oh…dear. I think we have more than enough of the word “Happy” with Happy Kiss…now this mascot, too???
I thought Hyoue’s surname was “Kuroda”? Or is that just my imagination? Update: It seems I made it up…
U-Uh, hey…so this was their real intention with those eyecatches, huh? Another “draw me like one of your French girls” memes is in order! Wait, but Ruka’s magical girl form isn’t doing the right pose…aww.
It seems Ruka isn’t into the Magical Girls (it’s implied she’s into Michiru instead), but Michiru’s into Ore…just as Astral guessed.
If that sentence didn’t make sense, it wasn’t meant to! It was just a bunch of long English words thrown together…although “jihad” certainly isn’t English. I wonder if any religious people will get angry at that word being used so casually, though? (I didn’t expect to laugh so hard at these guys. Konami’s my favourite character – of course he is, considering the karaoke episode - but I think I have an appreciation for these guys now.)
LOL, me and Astral like to complain about how thinking up new attack names takes an hour or so…so we totally know your feel, Michiru.
If you look at the scene where PRISMA are shown to attack, it says bokasuka, which apparently means “lots of hits and punches in succession”. It’s basically like subbing it “fistfight!”, “kapow!” or something.
Happy-chan doesn’t even have a body in tiny form!!! What??? (LOL)
Can we please stop with the montages?! A show is better when people bother to animate stuff, alright?!
Happy-chan went “doukashira?” (-kashira is a female sentence ending) which made me laugh because it’s a contrast to that head of his.
Happy-chan doesn’t even have hands…I’m not sure how he’s meant to live like that, y’know?
That catchphrase has less impact the second time around, it seems.
Hmm…so it was actually foreshadowing for Michiru’s love, huh? I thought it was pandering to tsundere stereotypes…
As much as I laughed at the ol’ kick to the face, are Happy and Kokoro really brothers? Or is this just filler after all?
Oh, this new ED is “We’re Not Magical Girls” by the Mahou Shoujo unit (Saki/Sakuyo)!
You can spot a tiny magical girl figurine with pigtails on Yamo’s desk if you watch at the right time.
PRISMA’s song is called “Love/Attack!”
They actually got a next episode preview narrated by demons?! (LOL) This is a new level of weirdness, and I’m actually glad to have heard it with my own ears (because I’m trembling with laughter right now because of it). But…they talk at the end! They can speak?! Whatttttttt?!
Rokuhoudou 8
Gure’s got stud earrings. Don’t think I’ve noticed them before…
It appears to be a florentine and not a “florentin” like the subs say. It is just missing an “e” though…
Happy, happy! I think Karurusu got me into the spirit of being happy all the time…or at least happier than I used to be, anyway.
Seriously, this middle school kid acts like a Boueibu monster, it’s hard not to make a comparison.
Gure’s so goofy, I’m laughing as much as I normally do for Boueibu or MSO…Rokuhoudou isn’t normally like this, that’s all.
“good way to sober up” – It sure doesn’t seem that way for Tsubaki, though…poor soul.
That style with the lips…it’s so un-Rokuhoudou, and yet it still works! I can’t think of what it reminds me of, though, because it seems to remind me of another anime or manga and I can’t put my finger on it. Update: Maybe MSO? That’s the closest thing I can think of that matches right now.
Hey, come to think of it, doesn’t this guy look like Shishigami from Inuyashiki? Their outlook on life is mostly the same, too! (from what little I know about Shishigami in passing)
Uh…Gure? Didn’t anyone teach You about stranger danger?!
The delinquents…are in the duck boating club?! Well, that was a surprise…
This pretty much became my favourite episode, even though Tokitaka’s still my fave Rokuhoudou boy, LOL.
Code:Realise 13
Since I don’t know whether to denote this as the final episode or not, I won’t note it as anything…
Isn’t Cardia Lupin’s girl? Hands off, Impey!
The newspaper Herlock’s holding has an ad for animators…wuh? In the Code:Realise Victorian era? No way, Jose!

BnHA 41 - 42 | Lupin III Pt 5 4 | Hinamatsuri 4 | Boueibu HK 4
The tags should be rolled out soon.
BnHA 41
The kid in the corner is funny…with that soul hanging from his mouth like that.
Is it just me, or does the grass around Deku look weird?
Is breathing fire what his (Deku’s) dad does?
Eyyy! It’s the carrot and stick approach! Thank you, politics classes!
Oh dear, this entire Dabi scene looks like Ao no Exorcist because of all the blue flames…
Lupin III Pt 5 4
“Bitmoney”, LOL.
Interesting fact: The Onion Router is a secure browser where the Pirate Bay (inspiration for Marco Polo) was previously hidden. Therefore, whatever the Ponion thing Ami mentions is, it’s likely to be under multiple layers of security (because that’s what the “Onion” is meant to stand for).
Interestingly, hikikomori always seem to object to the fact they were actually hikikomori (or have a different take on the matter that just amounts to being a hikikomori in the end, like “house protector”), which I think is part of the problem in the first place.
This entire desert scene reminds me of Avatar. Not the blue-skinned people, of course…
Team dad number 4 (Lupin) over here, folks (no. 1 = Nitta from Hinamatsuri, no.s 2 and 3 = Wakura and Taiju from Boueibu Happy Kiss). Or is it Zenigata?
What’s a…oh. Ghillie suit. I never knew they had names, those things…
This series has such good cliffhangers…which keeps me wondering why I haven’t watched more of Part 4 yet…
Hinamatsuri 4
Whew! Just finished another duo of collab posts in the nick of time (with an hour or so on the clock)! I could not have a better show to destress with (aside from maybe Rokuhoudou).
I don’t think I noticed it in previous times (or just didn’t react to it), but Hina brings her bowl of ikura to school. Kind of like Mahou Shoujo Ore’s initial gimmick.
Seriously, is that guy with the slicked-back hair Nitta? Nitta’s twin? Or someone else entirely?
Hinamatsuri’s face game is the best! Seriously, it is!
$29 for a vase is somewhat cheap, but it must’ve been tough on Hina to get all that money…at first.
BnHA 42
Wasn’t it that some Quirks are hereditary? I wonder if Kota’s is as well…
“Your face is my type.”
Wa-hey, wouldn’t you know? I was right! Kota’s power is water generation!
Boueibu Happy Kiss 4
I watched Usagi Drop earlier this year, so sometimes when I read the name “Happy Kiss” I think of that anime’s OP…(Just look at it!)
Just how does Japanese get away with sticking HAPPY in places it doesn’t belong? Seriously, some episode titles in this show don’t make sense and it’s why I’ve given up trying to translate episode titles until CR gives them to me.
‘“Ugh” camp’ = Kyotaro uses “omoshirokunai” (not interesting), so “ugh” is just there to make it funnier.
I never figured this out while pillaging spoilers, but the katakana word “roman” means “sense of adventure” and not “romance”, “romantic” or “Roman” as I kept thinking of it. Dang wasei-eigo!
See? He exposes his pun right there – if you listened to the discussion just then, maizoukin is the word for “buried treasure”. (Of course, some kanji are substituted out as they tend to be in this show…) (The show is named Maizoukin GO!, for extra hilarity.)
Just to top it all off, Kingo’s got gold eyes, LOL.
Have I seen these background characters before? No? Yes?
Apparently the phrase used to transform monsters means “hold me tightly”…?
Ah, Taishi. You’re a boy after my own heart!
Wow! We’ve come a long way from s1 if we can see subtle trembles of Ichiro’s hand while he talks.
“Maizoukin za-kunzakun!” means something along the lines of “Buried treasure, hit the motherload!” Ah, I understand now!
Hmm…Taishi believes in miracles, and yet he’s the knowledgeable one. What an interesting juxtaposition.
The kanji on the top of the marquee (aside from “Unazuki”) say 建設 (kensetsu), or “construction”. I wouldn’t be surprised if Unazuki were a rich kid with such connections…Update: Well, that rendered my Google Translate trip moot, but…now you know what it means!
I claim I don’t have a moe instinct, but smol Dougo really trips off the moe radar! He’s so dang cute!
Statute of limitations(LOL)? Is there even one on something like childhood letters (LOL)?
I think Dougo might’ve used the –ssu pattern Yumoto tended to use, but maybe that’s my imagination…?
Wow…that really is a fundoshi (notice you can get an eyeful of monster butt if you pause…although it’s kinda disturbing in its own way).
Well, there’s a twist – you’d think the shield-shaped item is the mouth, but the mouth’s actually the line above it!
Didn’t notice this, but their transformation sequence is about a minute for all of them.
Once again, there’s an eyeful of somewhat objectionable fanservice. I don’t think anyone know the reference to the bill with the dirt though, and that includes me.
I paused specifically to hear Happy Ready. Let’s go! (By the way, the absence of individualised attacks is something I miss from the LOVE! days, but it does mean we get more characterisation. The Boueibu staff really do learn after many years!)
Hypothetically, shouldn’t Ryoma be worried about the bath facility? I mean, it’ll take business away from the Kurotamayu…
Is anyone a fan of the ED? I know there’s quite a few fans of Happy Ready and I’m one of a few fans of the intensely catchy OP, but the ED…?
Yonekura’s father is voiced by Shinpachi Tsuji.

BnHA 49 - 50 | Hinamatsuri 11 - 12 (FINAL) | MSO 12 (FINAL) | Boueibu HK 10 - 11 | Rokuhoudou 11
BnHA 49
“Tsukauchi…All Might…” – Come to think of it, what is Tsukauchi doing at this moment in time, anyway?
“…the ones who are smiling are the strongest.” – This reminds me of what Atro Spyker said in Rokka no Yuusha…“If you want to be strong, smile! He who can smile, even when he's so sad that he wants to die, when it's so painful that he wants to give it all up and run away, is the one who becomes strong.”
Why is there a person wearing a LLENN cap in the crowd, anyway? Is that intentional?
“What is with that pitiful back?!” – You can really see parallels between Bakugo and Izuku now between Endeavour and All Might…hmm.
Gran Torino in his prime…looks like Knuckleduster from Vigilantes somewhat.
Interestingly, the word daikokubashira (central pillar) comes to mind with all this talk about pillars. Normally I’d use that word in conjunction with a nuclear family and apparently the word can be used in a more literal sense with a house. However, in both cases, All Might is the pillar to the structure he made with society itself. Now that he’s pretty much done for, it’s like a Jenga game’s end. Everything falls apart. (Hey, I have a post on this topic in progress! Probably shouldn’t have mentioned all this…)
Hypertrophy.
All for One looks…normal when he’s dead. I thought he was creepy when he was still up and about, but now I’m no longer afraid. Ha…haha…
Hey, it’s Uwabami! Haven’t seen her in a while.
Oh, the guy in the ED is Eraserhead with his hair slung back.
Hinamatsuri 11
One more episode until we have to say goodbye to this show…I really liked it while it was around.
Isn’t Rairaiken the name of the Chinese restaurant Anzu works at…?
Wait, so Nitta’s sister knows karate?! What?! Why didn’t anyone mention that earlier?!
This scene with the ashtray reminds me of Nitta’s senpai, although I forgot what the senpai’s name is…wasn’t he in the previous episode though? I really do have a terrible memory sometimes, huh?
“Is he really just a regular nice guy?”
It’s basically the Ember Island Players all over again! Hahaha…
Hina’s shirt says doutoku. The only kanji combo I could get for that means “morals” or “morality”.
What’s up with the line about yaks, anyway?
Hina’s shirt says sugosugi = “too awesome”. Then it said “haha”, which could mean her mother…but I think it’s more the English meaning, out of context.
I’d read in an interview on Seiyuu+ that “Anzu is an angel” and that Nitta wanted to keep Anzu instead of Hina, but I never thought it meant either so literally…
“Reality (Hina) is coming home.” – LOL!
What…? Hina’s gone missing, in the mountains? What if Ikaruga took her??? Oh dear…
Boueibu HK 10
Well, there ain’t nothing more manly than sleeping in nothing but your birthday suit on a futon…right? (kidding)
I laughed so hard at Kyoutarou sneezing. The “person’s drowning” trope for fanservice at least goes back to 2004 or so – DN Angel (the anime, I believe) did it, I definitely remember that.
Poor Kyoutarou is being used as a demo dummy in this set of illustrations, LOL.
Everyone’s using the phrase nechatta, which holds some interesting implications. You see, the meaning of chatta means either completion…or the fact the action being done has negative implications. In this case, it’s both.
I think Kyoutarou called Karurusu “Karuru” or “Karu” or something.
Turtle-kun is so smol, I wanna cuddle him!
Hey, even the subs use “Martha” now…I’m so confused, still.
The word the old men want is “monster” (kaijin), but then the other word they thought of was katsukare- (pork cutlet curry), so I can see why the word was bent out of shape like that now. Notably, Karurusu didn’t age at all…
Taishi’s using the word yancha (naughty), which basically confirms he was a delinquent when he was younger. Just in a very roundabout way.
Notably, Nanao hasn’t stopped drinking tea after all those years, and Karurusu seems to have a very very long lifespan if he comments on it like that…
Inago = locust. Ichigo = strawberry. The former is correct (it’s in katakana, so there’s one stroke’s difference between na and chi).
Wow…spoilers told me I should’ve seen that coming, but watching old men transform is not my gig, so thank goodness I was spared from that ordeal…
Hey, we’re back to our old tradition of dark skies for the finale…although we didn’t have that in s2, eh?
They don’t even have voice roles for smol!Ata, Ryoma and Kyoutarou! That’s unfair!
The reason we all call the show “Boueibu” is because the staff did it first…so here’s (the next ep preview) just some extra proof of that.
MSO 12 (FINAL)
Noticeably, Yamo uses the word taoshite (to collapse), so literally his demand is to “make me collapse”…it’s a bit weird to translate it like that, which is probably why the subbers went with a different translation.
What did Mohiro ever do to be hurt like this, anyway? He doesn’t deserve to be hurt, Yamo…dangit. This is why you can’t be MVP anymore.
More montages…*sigh*
What the-orbefjvpenfp, Hyoue?! Don’t ruin the moment, regardless of whether it constitutes yaoi or not!
So…uh, somehow demons are talked about in terms of code? Y’see, this is why you need a good garbage collector.
I love how they were just called “The Hyoue Squad”, even though this show is called “Mahou Shoujo Ore”.
Gah! Anime-original characters steal the spotlight again…well, there goes my hopes for a good MSO ending, eh?
To think that Michiru’s male form is voiced by Kisho Taniyama – the guy who voiced Chuuya (Bungou Stray Dogs) – though…I still don’t match those voices with each other in my head, y’know.
…and somehow they were in Tokyo Tower. Of course, because Tokyo is the centre of the universe (sarcastic).
The thing about this show is that it’s so off-the-wall it doesn’t quite make emotional moments work, even ones like Yamo’s final handshake…sure, it kind of hit me in the feels because I’ve known this series for longer than some people, but not really…if you get what I mean.
I think Astral was thinking about this during one of the other episodes, but…they’re only bringing the topic of who Ore is to Michiru now??? Wuh???
The experience of this show wasn’t as bad as I was making it out to be in the beginning, but it wasn’t the most perfect thing either. I would rather they have done more filler with Saki and Sakuyo instead of coming up with anime-original characters to fill the gaps, but I’m also fine with what we got in the end...it’s a complex set of feelings that I don’t think I’ll ever get over. Anyways, that’s another show over and done. See you next time!
Rokuhoudou 11
Demi-glace.
Gotta love Sui’s Gendo poses! By the way, ponzu is some kind of citrus sauce.
This isn’t a particularly standout OP, but I might miss it for a week or two after this show’s end…I don’t want this show to end, actually. But as they say, be careful what you wish for.
(I still have no idea why they say “girls be ambitious” in the OP when the main stars are dudes…)
You might’ve noticed the one I like best from Rokuhoudou is Tokitaka. His voice, his hair, his caring nature (as demonstrated here with the old people), his ability to cook great food…*sighs dreamily* what a man he is!
You might not know this is you haven’t read the character pages for the show, but Tokitaka runs a pottery class. That’s why Osada and co. call him “Sensei”.
“Nagae”? I’ve never seen Sui refer to Tokitaka by his last name before! This is really something!
Oh dear, more Hotel East Side…notably, Osada is using very polite words (keigo) since she’s not really familiar with Sui.
There’s a shot where the light from the window streams on to Sui and you can’t tell if he’s wearing a kimono or a business suit…ooh, that must be symbolic in some way, y’know?
Mirin is a type of alcohol.
Rokuhoudou keeps surprising its customers…I wonder if I, as a blogger, can keep surprising people that way too…then I’d be set for life.
So that’s how Tokitaka uses unused stuff from his classes (using them at the Rokuhoudou)?! Wow, didn’t see that coming!
Osada looked like she was gonna cry, and that almost made me cry for a second!
“My father built East Side Grande.” – *spits out half-eaten food* Holy shiitake mushrooms! Rokuhoudou is best enjoyed with food, but if I keep spitting it out, I’m going to have to clean up around here…(kidding)
I didn’t even realise half the episode had gone so quickly! Yipes!
Hinamatsuri 12 (FINAL)
“It’s snow big deal.” – I get the feeling it was meant to have a pun in Japanese, but I don’t hear one when I listen to the audio…
Oh, there’s no Utako at the end of the OP! I kept skipping it, so that’s why I never knew…
Interestingly, the yuki is in kanji and the rest is in hiragana, which probably means it has to be a riff on the show’s name and not referring to any particular snow festival in particular.
Wait, forcible shipping? C’mon, they’re 13! That just lowered my opinion of the show somewhat.
Doesn’t this remind you of when Mao got stranded on the island and then made Hina go “Feed me”? She was on the ball after all…
Geez, that kid on the left (either Kengo or the other guy) is sadistic…
“Although you’ll be getting a roe deal.” – This was a pun on ikura (salmon roe)…although I can’t tell exactly how the pun works…
Is this Namahage Town, or what? What is up with all the namahage puns? Can someone tell me???
Wait, if credits are appearing here, then why is there half an episode left…?
Montage time…*sigh*
Why did a shot of Anzu appear (LOL)?
The yakuza guys are still watching that documentary?! What (LOL)?!
The horse seems to be called Eiyon Size…or something like that.
Hey, I think it was pretty accurate for “Oi, get your hands off her!” or “Oi, young man, don’t touch her!” in Chinese…or something like that. It is pretty garbled though…
LOL, Atsushi’s screaming in English though…”Mayonnaise is Atsushi!”
The monk’s name is Shinyhead (LOL)!
Ehh? Ain’t this the same scene from the beginning? Aw man, don’t make it like DN Angel…
“Watashi no smartphone ga!” Gets me every time, man.
In the end, Pruny Shinyhead just wants money, eh?...Haha.
Wait, so Pruny Shinyhead is like Mao like the boss man to Hina, huh?
That’s an actual plane company written on the side of that plane! Lufthansa! (The writing gets cut off when it’s at its most visible, though.)
So…in the end, we don’t discover what happened to Hina and Anzu three years later. Read the manga…I get it. *sigh*
BnHA 50
Noticeably, the sign says “stop!” in katakana.
I read on the wiki Shouto’s sister is called Fuyumi. That makes sense if she has an ice quirk like her mother (fuyu = winter).
“I can’t accept it. Not like this…” - Once again, you can see Bakugo in Endeavour…
Yap! (Yahoo!) News, LOL. The site doesn’t even bother parodying the purple or other style things about Yahoo!, though.
They…actually told us what happened to Ragdoll and Best Jeanist? That’s kinda sad, y’know?
Jiro’s parents are rockers? Well…that makes a lot of sense, actually.
Didn’t Brian the Sun do…yep, BnHA ED 1!
I’ve never seen a kid embarrass their dad before. It’s amazing…and so fresh.
Wow, Bakugo’s mum is…really something else. She’s got exactly the same temperament, I wonder how that family functions…
Midoriya’s shirt says “dress shirt”, LOL!
Inko’s feelings for Izuku resonated so strongly with me, I nearly cried…nearly.
I just realised…that computer in the flashback is a Windows 10. It’s got the menu and everything!
Wait…there’s an extra bit after the credits! The credits are way too long! Keep watching, keep watching…
Tartarus…? Like Alcatraz or something?
Hmm…in a lot of stories, the mentor dies. Here, the mentor doesn’t die. Good point, All for One.
Boueibu HK 11
Can I stop screaming “No duh!” every time they say “This is bad!”?
Manza the delinquent is exposed!
They’re attaching –san to the end of people’s magical aliases! Fabulous, if I do say so myself.
“We’ll stand up again and again!” – Uh, Karurusu? Kyoutarou’s sitting down…(LOL)
And…skip the transformation sequence again…and skip the purification sequence again…*sigh*
Notably, the kanji word on the wall not too far away from the pictures is “hope”.
*screams* My LOVE! boys! They’re back! (I knew they were coming because spoilers said they would, but this…this is wonderful…)
“…fail to realise…”
This entire conflict…it really is Kin-chan all over again.
This pink pigeon…is adorable! Like Turtle-kun last episode!
You can clearly see a purple hand (paw?) taking Kamopapa away, which is clearly Wao, that scoundrel of a lemur.
*voice caught in throat as Karurusu cries* Karurusu…don’t cry…
Does this mean the thing Ata wanted all along…was a handshake?
The next ep preview says "Danger is approaching King Kamopapa! Now isn't the time to be arguing!", by the way.

Mahou Shoujo Ore 5 | Yotsuiro Biyori 4 | Lupin III Pt 5 5 | Hinamatsuri 5 | BnHA 43 | Boueibu HK 5
Mahou Shoujo Ore 5
Hey hey hey, this is the second show I’ve seen ape Osomatsu-san this year. Seriously, no show is safe in a parody as a target for humour’s sake…Note Osomatsu-san is also by Pierrot, though, so they’re attacking themselves to some extent.
Now that they’ve pointed the Osomatsu-san reference though, I can’t believe I didn’t see the scarf colours last time! But…this is episode 5…
Oh, I kind of noticed it, but I’m probably too used to it since I watched the first season of Osomatsu-san – the blue lines are part of that show’s signature style.
Muscovado is apparently a substitute for sugar. It literally translates to “black sugar” though…
Sagami is…a former place in Japan…?
Tama River. I’m terrible at Japanese geography, so I don’t think you should be asking me about this…
Dang, apparently Pierrot is based in Mitaka, Tokyo so whatever joke I was chasing there fell flat.
Wow, they got really self-referential this episode…yikes.
So this is the rumoured Chiba-san? Uhh…
Oh my…I do not see the word “Japanimation” get much mileage at all these days, but I cringe every time I see it.
It’s Pokémon Go! Wow, that’s another level of meta for sure. My hopes for resolving all the stray plot threads while maintaining that wacky sense of humour (or however I phrased it) definitely went out the window…Notice the footage is dated April 24th 20X8, which is about a week before the episode went to air if the X actually hides “2018”.
Suginami. Apparently, Bones, Sunrise and other studios are stationed there…but Pierrot isn’t.
If there’s one thing I didn’t expect in MSO, it’s the fact this show became Shirobako in a sense. I still need to get around to Shirobako, by the way…
Ey, wait a second! Astral, you got your wish! We get to see…Fujimoto’s face!
Whoa! They went all out on the CGI fire effects! What is this show, Golden Kamuy?! (LOL)
Comichiya’s probably Comiket. The katakana (chi -> tsu, to -> ya) look kinda similar if mangled.
Dangit! I missed my mark on the guesswork again! Tokyo Big Sight isn’t in Suginami.
Basically, this is just a long road to admitting they couldn’t do a recap episode, but they don’t have enough content to pad this ep either. Ah, sweet revelations (sarcastic).
Is it just me, or does the bottom of Fujimoto (1)’s face look kind of like…Mohiro??? Wagh??? Update: No, the hair colour’s off.
The “on the train” technically says “on the NEXT train” (emphasis mine).
Wow, they namedropped Ishikawa (probably Kaito)! Ishikawa voices male!Saki, so it makes sense.
Oh my gosh, Mahoutsukai Watashi! What a bold move this show’s taken – it’s telling its own meta-narrative. Which means when I cover it for the collab post…it’ll be meta of meta…that’ll put my head in a spin for sure.
You can see Fujimoto and Sakuyo character designs if you pause for one scene (the one with “staff working from home”).
You can see the name Masayuki Ito (伊藤雅之) on that list with the downward arrows, but I don’t know what significance that name has unless they’re an animator or something...
Mensore is explained here.Basically it’s youkoso in Okinawan.
Jimami Tofu…isn’t tofu, as weird as that sounds. It’s an Okinawan-sponsored drama.
Well, at least this time I got a big epic battle (no matter how short it is). Nothing better than that!
They got Akira Ishida, Tomokazu Seki, Koichi Yamadera and some other guys to voice the Fujimotos this time. Notice there’s no crossover between the Osomatsu-san voices and the Fujimotos, which was probably intentional.
I thought there’d be a real Shinzo Chiba, but there doesn’t seem to be one…
There was a shot of Fujimoto (before the manager)! Wah! Was that there in previous episodes???
Every time people promise wardrobe malfunctions, they tend to…uh, deliver on that…
The Monokubo illustration this time is creepy…I like it!
Yotsuiro Biyori 4
Is this a zombie movie (LOL)?
Wow, Sui really loves cats, doesn’t…he…? (LOL)
Oh, so that weird zombie movie in medias res opening was actually one of those fakeouts…DN Angel’s anime did that, I remember…
Wow, they make Tokitaka so epic in this scene! A determined man is more handsome than one in an ordinary state, don’tcha think?
You can even see rice flying! Amazing! Tokitaka’s got such skill.
I am so spoilt for smol boys this season, between this and Boueibu HK…
Ooh! My eyes have been blessed with the hotness of Tokitaka!
There’s more chicken than usual this ep, eh?
Shiratama anmitsu.
I never thought we’d need a backstory for the resident cat, but okay. It was hilarious and fun while it lasted and now it’s almost over…huh.
Denzou? Eh? (I kinda get why the name’s badass with the kanji involved, but it’s hard to explain to a non-Japanese speaker…)
Agedama.
The next ep title translates to roughly “A Loving Hand for the Lost Lamb”…as in, to extend a hand to it.
Lupin 3 Pt 5 5
Okay, part 5 episode 5 is confusing when it’s just “5 5”, isn’t it?
I think the guy in the green jacket will be important later…? He’s in a key visual for this show, at least.
“This pasta called soba’s pretty good!” – LOL, soba ain’t pasta, y’know…
I’ve learnt about the stack before. Here you go.
IP camera. Hey, I’ve done something on IP cameras before, but normally Detective Conan (and most other mystery shows of the modern day) seem to be reliant on CCTV…
Chicken game…? Sounds tasty!...Not.
Ami doesn’t seem too pleased about all the shooting, LOL.
Even Ami knows bowing is a sign of Japanese respect. Just like how dragons understand the meaning of “Hatori Chise” involves birds…(i.e. I’m kind of skeptical that a real French girl would learn to bow to her Japanese friends when her life is always on the line, a la Ami.)
Episode…1? Y’mean, there’s more adventures, but no Ami? Aw, I was enjoying having her in the fray.
Hinamatsuri 5
A TV? $30??? Wow, I would fight a psychic girl for that! That’s friggin’ cheap!
“Toshibu” (sic), LOL.
Bikkuri means “surprise”, LOL.
“A teacher and a student walk into a bar…” – it sounds like a joke. Not that that could be conveyed accurately in Japanese, though. The fact it even works as an English joke must be a coincidence…
Hitomi’s such a terrible liar! Wahaha!
Nitta’s just like “I’ve given up on this girl”. Either that, or he has a hangover…(LOL)
Sayo looks kind of like Hina. If it weren’t for the hair colours I would’ve mistaken the two.
BnHA 43
Carrying a gun to a fistfight…yep, bad. Plain bad, Mustard, ol’ boy.
Sorry, there was a lot of fighting this ep and nothing much to say!
Boueibu HK 5
LOL, the bald bodyguard…he looks kinda grumpy.
Notice Kyotaro goes “ore kyoumi nai” (I have no interest in it), but the subs missed the subject of the sentence! CR, you weirdoes!
Echire butter…exists!
“You know about genetic testing?” - Irina! I think this is your department!
Ryoma’s the end of the evolutionary line!
Hmm…if there was no Ice Age in Honyara Land…might there have been something else that caused the Furanui/Karurusu conflict? There’s only animosity from one side, after all.
Bunbuku Chagama. Magozaemon was fat, so he would make a perfect teapot/tanuki…
Wait, if Maasa = Ichiro in the age department (roughly 16), that would add up. He went abroad for 4 years and held off on carbs the entire time…yikes.
“The people of this world envy those who represent the opposite of what they fear for themselves, so they criticise and attack them.” – Ooh, Ata makes a lot of sense here…! It’s a quote for the collection.
Asobukoto = It’s not really “fun” per se, but “playing” or “hanging out”. That is, if you translate rather literally.
They’re all underage (roughly 16 – 18), of course they wouldn’t drink! Of course, this is coming from a person who doesn’t drink…the only samples of alcohol I’ve had are few and far in between…
Hey, I studied this stuff in the past, you don’t have to regurgitate this info (about needing food to better absorb alcohol). Lemmee tell you, alcohol ads are weird…
They didn’t make the “glasses fogging up” a weird plot hole. Phew.
Wow, to think I’d be getting a science lesson of things I already know in my Boueibu…I never thought I’d see the day where that happened.
According to this page, one of the things the ramen shop serves is gomoku soba. Wait…that’s right! Ramen’s appeared in this show before! In the Chri-pa episode! Sorry Astral, I gotta spoil s2 for you!
Wow, this chicken carcass is even less of a threat than anything else so far! Wow-hee.
Taishi only seems vaguely fazed about the fact he’s being made to fight monsters. Interesting. I never think about the perspective of the non-red boys regarding fighting monsters until they’re pointed out, really.
So wait, the magic knight of space…makes bubbles? Uh, Astral, you might wanna learn from this…?
Hey hey, I found a page on tonkotsu ramens (sic from the Hakata anime) and paitan ramen.
Kyotaro on stairs = basically my mood when I want to imitate the “draw me like one of yor French girls” meme. (Very badly.)
So…when I said I missed individualised attacks, I never saw this coming. Sorry about that, people. (Even if that was only Ichiro’s bubble attack.)
Kyotaro makes a lot of sense here. But seriously, I think I need Astral’s easy button right now. That was easy.
Notice Karurusu is acting as a pelt…weren’t otters hunted for their pelts?
Oh, Sujikawa’s a first year, huh?
*Sujikawa picks up the boulder* - *round of applause from me* Wow!
Both Maasa and Dougo have such supportive friends, it almost makes me jealous.
The English! It’s…correct! (thinks back to a magazine article with “Difence” (sic) written on it in pink letters)
I, for one, am happy they’re tackling relationships aside from “brothers” this time. Finally, here’s something that stacks up against its competition in regards to deeper themes, even if it is a comedy!
Dougo and Maasa (Magozaemon) were in class 2, if you pause at the right time. Notably, the members of class 2 were all boys, LOL. Even with the boy to the left of Magozaemon, I think that name might be pronounced “Ai” (due to this page), but it’s in manly kanji.

BnHA 47 - 48 | Hinamatsuri 10 | MSO 11 | Rokuhoudou 10
BnHA 47
“I’ll stick you.” – I don’t get it. What does that line mean? I think Himiko said “soushimashou” (let’s do that”), so it might be “I’ll stick with you”.
“It’s been a while since I saw that muttering.” – Yeah, I don’t think we’ve seen it since season…1, methinks? Wow, that seems like a long time ago already.
Why does Best Jeanist like…oh, right. Ookami = wolf and kami = hair…
Onigiri can mean “demon cutter” (samurai implications there with the “cutting”), but Edgeshot’s aesthetic is a ninja…hmm, that doesn’t quite work.
How the heck did the heroes pretend they were a pizza delivery service? That’s hilarious!
Endeavour really is like Bakugo (in being an angry bean), huh?
I love how Shigaraki is just like, “Damnit,” all of a sudden.
What- Bakugo, gone? Again? What happened to Best Jeanist? Waggggh?! The cliffhanger’s too tantalising!!!
Hinamatsuri 10
Wow, Utako’s such a free spirit…
Yikes, all this moving out business forced on to a middle schooler…such a strange comedy of errors we have here. Hitomi even has a seal, as you just saw.
Oh, it’s the band guys from a while back! Didn’t think they’d show up again.
Now there’s a history lesson on the namahage…I think this joke has gone on way too long, but I’m still laughing at it…*laughter behind hand*
If you look carefully at the screen which Shiho’s been working on (it’s a Word doc on a Windows OS), you can see the word “NAMAHAGE” over and over again without spaces…LOL. The computer seems to be a black version of a Mac though.
I am simultaneously proud of Hitomi for impressing her mother and yet utterly shocked at how mother and daughter are so alike…
*cuts to horse racing* - Oh…dear. *muffled laughter behind hand*
“What matters is your appreciation for that person.” – Aw, it’s such a nice statement. Like a Mother’s Day sort of thing.
BnHA 48
There’s a lot of still shots this episode…hmm. I never thought I’d say that for a Bones show…
Holy moly! It’s anime!Darth Vader! So that’s where that joke comes from!
When All for One holds his hand ot to Shigaraki, you can really see All Might-Deku parallels…ooh, dear. Things are really going to get nasty from here on out.
All Might’s real name is Yagi Toshinori (with the “gi” having the kanji for “tree”), so that’s why he likes Yakushima cedar. After all, he’s big and protective like an ol’ tree, ain’t he?
Is it possible for Deku and co. to plead self-defence in juvenile court???
It’s hilarious how Mt. Lady calls the group “stupid kids”.
I know All Might’s mentor was also called Shimura (Nana Shimura)…it can’t be…I kind of knew it was true, but I can’t believe it, now that I know the context behind it…
Oh! I’ve never seen All Might do one of those moves that restrains a person rather than knocks all the stuffing out of them! This is new!
Is it just me, or is All for One’s head ruined from All Might’s smashing? Or was it already wrecked before All Might bashed it in even more?
MSO 11
“Do you memorise the schedules of all of your royal family members?!” – Kokoro’s got a point for once.
“My favourite magical girl is Creamy Mami!” – Oh, that would explain why he was going extremely nuts over that piece of merch last episode. If only we’d seen that sooner. *facepalm*
Karintou.
Wait, so there really are 6 Fujimotos and not just one??? You’re kidding!!!
They actually went and pointed all the off model shots out! Boueibu only does that sort of thing in the beginning!
“Fresh Mohiro-kun (slightly bruised)” – I laugh. It’s too good as a joke, man.
…but are they really going to continue this off model joke throughout the episode? It’s starting to lose its novelty already…Update: Nope, thank goodness.
*Sakuyo crashes through door with Saki* - Well, to use an old joke, that’s definitely one way of using your head, Saki…
Montages need a trademark in this show, I swear…
The moment where Sakuyo and Saki parted was kinda sweet. Sakuyo’s been portrayed as nothing but predatory, so to see her respecting Saki’s boundaries for once is nice.
Well, that was an extremely meta joke about commercials…but it’s still not kidding.
Thos creations of the demon world (including a man in purple underwear…?) were definitely to weird us out…but *deep breath in* gd men has worse. I’m fine. *exhale*
“Might as well go home early and finish off my anime backlog.” - At least Yamo has his priorities straight, LOL.
Mohiro barely said anything for the next episode preview…that’s just like him, actually.
Welp, one more episode left.
Rokuhoudou 10
It’s like a parody of Omae wa Mada Gunma wo Shiranai’s title…that’s what I keep thinking when I see that episode title (She Doesn’t Know Rokuhoudou Yet).
Sui’s ending his sentences with nya (meow) occasionally, so the cat puns are to accommodate that.
Sui basically did an entire Animorphs transformation right there, from dork to bishonen! Wahaha!
Kanten is kind of like agar, but derived from a different seaweed. Shiratama are a kind of dango, made for Hinamatsuri, hanami and events like that.
Kuromitsu is a kind of syrup.
“Dokidoki” isn’t exactly “nail-biting”, y’know. It’s “heart-pounding”.
Masterchef taught me that a good chef should be able to recreate a dish just by tasting it. I guess the boys of Rokuhoudou don’t believe in that, huh?
Did you notice Gure’s eyes became specks for a second…?
The juxtaposition of the kitchen’s mad rush and the emotional talk of the sisters really is hilarious!
Jinsei wa Hanba-gu? Life is a Hamburg…what? Well, I know the answer is “steak” (i.e. a hamburger patty kind of thing), but other people might not know that. That’s what these notes are for.
I think that was Gure going on about Mt. Vesuvius…and with a strange black pasta spewing steam like that, it’s no wonder he was going on about a deadly volcano…is it possible for a pasta to do that, though? I might want to consult Astral on that...

Hinamatsuri 9 | Boueibu HK 9 | MSO 10 | Yotsuiro Biyori 9
Hinamatsuri 9
Oh dear…it’s another girl who’s going to break our hearts…either that, or we’re going to laugh at her…but the latter option doesn’t seem likely, y’know?
Wait a second, isn’t this the girl from the beginning scene? She has the same hair colour.
Mao’s impressions of Anzu and Hina are pretty accurate, ha.
I think Nitta meant “brother” as in “yakuza brother”, okay? Don’t get yor head in a twist about blood relations like I did for Kokoro and Happy…(see WordPress Mahou Shoujo Ore ep 9 for what I mean)
I didn’t know I needed an explanation for Nitta’s scar…but okay then.
Namahage General Hospital…wow, the namahage jokes even show up here…
Is Sabu a stress vomiter? I could do without the vomit gags.
Hamachi is a kind of fish, but buri is the same kind of fish…what.
What is that stick in her (Nitta’s sister’s) mouth, though?
-kashira means something along the lines of “maybe”, but it’s feminine…and probably not meant to be by itself on a shirt.
Another namahage appears!
“Frower store” (sic).
Of course Hina has ikura as her phone background, LOL.
Namahage count this episode: 3 so far.
Total namahages this episode: 3.
Boueibu HK 9
Well, for once I’m actually thankful I’m one week behind on every simulcast…oh shoot. But then the collab’s taking a break this week…so then that’ll leave us with one Boueibu ep for next week’s collab and 2 for MSO, and that means two blank slots on the Spellbook. Oh dear…
Hey, it’s those hats from the jizo play in season 2. I’m not sure if Astral’s going to get that, but I guess I probably shouldn’t tell him…shh. Don’t tell him…
Loach-scooping is explained here. A loach is a fish that kind of looks like a tadpole, apparently.
You know…even as a fan of this show, I can’t help but feel they’re dragging stuff out too much this episode already…
“Nanao-san”? So Kyoutarou doesn’t call Wakura senpai like the others do?
Nanao’s such a princess, LOL.
Ooh, champagne rose. I wonder what that smells like?
I didn’t notice, but Chiro-boy has a yellow shirt under his uniform.
Manza seems really angry for some reason. Subdued kind of angry, but angry nonetheless.
Oh, so this episode is set in October on Binanshi and the day after.
Sai Goro…c’mon. You staff can’t even make good puns anymore! (Saikoro = dice.) You’re not even trying!
“I think the nerdy kids are the cutest!” - Wow, now there’s an undeniable gay statement. There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just that everything prior to this could be misconstrued as something more…straight.
Wait, but aren’t the Edelstein running the cultural festival in the first place…? That’s a big hole in your argument, Ata-boy.
How did I not notice this earlier? The Edelstein’s outfits look like cockroaches, and their transformation phrase is “Die Vanderwelung” (The Metamorphosis). It makes so much sense now!
Note the sound effect for rolling is goro goro, which adds to his name puns…so I take back my previous complaint, staff.
(suddenly, cut to outside) - When did they set up outside, anyway?
So clicking your tongue is a sign of a delinquent? Manza basically just confirmed he was a former delinquent! Ohmigosh! (LOL, I sound much younger than I really am, haha.)
Karurusu is an Aquarius, huh? No wonder he’s such an oddball when it comes to stuff, huh?
Karurusu has a sword by his side, but he doesn’t use it…what a waste of a great prop. The Edelstein don’t really use theirs, either…more wastage…
Karurusu is shorter than Kyoutarou, huh?
Did I just see Waluigi? I may not be much of a gamer (I only know Pokémon in any particular detail), but I can spot a Waluigi well enough.
Wow, the entire animation budget went into animating Chiro and Manza right there…yeep. I’d hate to see them being motivated for a long time.
You can see the Dice Monster in the crowd behind the alligator guy.
So much sparkle~. I’m enjoying this episode, although clearly everyone else might not, haha.
Why doesn’t the monster recognise the Edelstein as the student council, though??? The Happy Kiss boys sure did at the start of the series…
Oh dear. Another monster who doesn’t get the simplest of things…*sigh*
“Dice-kun”, LOL.
Why does no one comment on this random monster takedown???
“Feels like I’m on a roll…” – Yet another pun I’ll have to look into later…Update: The exact words are korokoro saikou, literally meaning “rolling’s the best”, but the best equivalent that doesn’t sound awkward would be “on a roll”.
Were those lotuses CGI? It was hard to tell.
The crowd disappeared, huh? What a sad ending.
“’Happy end’, my eye”? Not “my butt” or some other equivalent?
Oh dear, though. If they’re all going to turn into old men, does that mean it’ll be like season 1 episode 4, only…the other end of the age spectrum? I’m a tad worried now...plus knowing CR delays, I won’t see the episode until two weeks from today.
MSO 10
Two episodes from the end. Getting there…slowly…
They’ve really run this joke into the ground by now. The “all toast-eaters should die!” was a nice shoutout, although a bit harsh…(I eat toast, for one thing…)
Tanaka? What a bland surname…
Oh wow, Haruhi parody. That reminds me, I need to finish that show…somehow…in some form of the franchise.
“…you do have a cute face.” - Kokoro? Cute face, my butt! (did not take it as a joke)
“How about we force something on you that’ll get the PTA – I mean, the city of Tokyo – declarin’ this ‘unwholesome media’?” - Wow, 4th walling much… (did not take it as a joke)
“Even if you are friends, violence is unacceptable!” - Hypocrisy…*sigh* (did not take it as a joke…again) I think every joke in the book this show’s had up its sleeve has now pretty much been exhausted. That’s sad for a comedy anime.
I somehow only just realised this, but Kokoro’s wings are upside-down…
“We’ve realised Hyoe is even more suspect.” – No duh. (did not take it as a joke, just very very stretched-out filler)
“…we know nothing about Hyoue.” – (angry tone) Yeah, like the fact he doesn’t have a surname! (I accidentally read a bunch of spoilers prior to this episode which have been weighing on my mind for a few days now, so let’s get this revelation over and done with.)
Come to think of it, what side is this grandpa from? Sayori’s? Or Saki’s dad’s? The thing at the start of the episode was clearly filler…by the way, gateball is apparently like croquet.
It’s…like FLCL…only very bad…ly drawn. *sigh*
I thought the murder joke from last episode was bad. I didn’t need it repeated and elaborated on, staff.
I am vaguely disturbed by the mental image of a child with Kokoro’s face…that’s the joke, but I’m not laughing…
“The Mohiro Kingdom grows again!” - Finally, a joke that sticks the dang landing! Oh, but by the way, the song is Nanatsu no Ko. I barely recognise the lyrics, but the song’s topic is something I recognise – it’s from smack-bang in the middle of my Detective Conan phase, of course I’d know it!
Hyoue’s more like a husbando claimer than a proud papa, haha…reminds me of me.
Oh! Yamo! I was expecting to laugh, but then I saw the recycled joke and my face fell back into its “grumpy resting b**** face” mode.
Oh!…Dear. Creamy Mami is a Pierrot show. A real one, I might add. According to that page I just linked, it basically has the same plot as MSO (minus the macho and the weird love triangle of course).
Wow, face game is back 100%! That’s basically the otaku life, Yamo…I’m glad you know it…even if you are fictional.
Yamo is Best Boy in this show, hands down. It’s too bad he’s…oh, alright. I’ll save the revelation for later. I keep spoiling the reveals in these commentaries before they happen.
Eh, uh, Yamo? You do realise Creamy Mami isn’t streaming anywhere, so I can’t watch it? Plus the only copies of it apparently exist outside my geographical boundaries??? I don’t want to risk the privacy breaches for one show, okay??? (Even still, Creamy Mami may be popular in Japan, but it sure ain’t popular outside Japan…(outsider’s perspective)) By the way, a quick Google tells you Toshio is the love interest in that show (as can be gauged by some context, but I had to confirm it for myself to make sure I wasn’t being blindsided by some parody).
“I never know what hardcore otaku are thinking.” – Uh, but you’re a hardcore otaku and you’re thinking right now…? (smirking with one side of mouth, but also with eyebrow raised)
I think that sign might say “Nariagari” (means something like “On the Rise”), actually…
See, the DVD says (with some kanji) Tonikaku Nariagaritai!, which should be where the unit’s name comes from. I didn’t think I’d make this comparison…but Yamo ure seemed like Otoharu Takanashi (Idolish7) when he asked for a CD from the Nariagari unit, though.
“My love for idols was just an extension of my love for magical girls.” - But…Yamo? You’re telling me my love for magical boys (also an extension of magical girl love) is fake?
Wait…what? I was seriously worried for Yamo right there, but the bike took a hit? Geesh, I got worried for nothing…(did not find that funny)
Huh? I knew this plot twist was coming…but this is how they reveal it??? (I’m back in the attention game!)
*sees Mohiro and Hyoue ED image* - Ooh, pretty screencap! I want that! *stops and saves it*
Vibrating Kokoro is the best joke all episode…but only because the rest of the episode was pretty bad, jokes-wise.
So Star*Prince (or whatever they’re called, Mohiro and Hyoue) really does have a prince…? Like, I knew that already and yet…I’m still astounded by this revelation…
The subbers left the “CC” in the subs! Gyah!
If that’s Yamo on one side of the Monokubo illustration and some demons…then what’s with the tentacles?! What’s with the big guy in the back?! Am I really just sleep deprived???? (Actually, the answer to that last question is “yes”, but I’m still seeing and thinking straight. Please don’t tell me the tentacles are my imagination…) (See, the Monokubo illustration and its ability to make this show a horror really do work. Monokubo’s illustration skills are wasted on this show, dangit.)..Ooh! Monokubo’s twitter! That’ll keep me happy for a while (and scared enough not to sleep…dangit).
Rokuhoudou 9
The “vwip” when Tsubaki switches to reading shoujo manga really sells that moment! (LOL)
Isago has a cute little rabbit…button? Pin? I’m not sure, but it’s on his collar.
Isago used the word “gozonji” (keigo vers. of the word “knowledge”) to ask Tsubaki about how to ask out this person, meaning he’s asking very formally…it’s the highest level of formality there is, in fact.
Isn’t the “land of love” France? Not Italy?
This magical girl parody is making me laugh too much…it makes me laugh just thinking about Gure doing that, haha. Tokitaka going “zukyun” (kapow) afterwards completely and truly sold that part for me! Hehehe…
The menu says “oshinagaki”…which, as it turns out, means “menu”. I’m so dumb sometimes…
Oh course Sui would know this is about a kitten, he loves cats…
She went “itadakimasu” first and then switched to a completely different phrase to really dig in! Wow! I don’t think I’ve heard the second phrase before! If only I could do a proper commentary with someone else on this show though…although pretty much everyone else was weirded out by episode 5, so I don’t think anyone will do a commentary with me if I asked.
Tsunozaki’s so melodramatic…aha…ahaha…(sounds unsatisfied and not quite impressed)
I thought Tsunozaki was gonna bash Tsubaki and I got worried for a few moments there, but it’s alright. Daijoubu, daijoubu, daijoubu. <- (referencing Kekkai Sensen’s recap episode)
Tsunozaki is always the harbinger of the past for Sui, isn’t he?
“Jaggy” is apparently an actual word, contrary to my thoughts that it was a slang or made-up word. It’s just another word for “jagged”, though.
Yakyou’s hair is more black than Sui’s…hmm. I didn’t notice that in all the flashbacks they’ve had of him so far.
I haven’t realised until now, but the ED has no lyrics…huh. It’s a nice song, though. I like this show’s soundtrack.
