Rick Flag x Reader

A/N: I’m on a Rick Roll😬 Dad!Rick fic! Can be read as a continuation from <Fresh Start> or alone.

Genre: PG-13, fluff explosion?

Notes: A normal routine in the Flag family.

“Woah mate, you looked like you just came out of a hurricane.”

Rick opens the door, his signature golden hair sticking in all different directions. Ducking out into the driveway, he checks that no nosy neighbors are around before pulling the man into the house.

“Where did your lady go?” Robert leads the pack, trailing behind his old friend.

“Cleo and Harley took her for a ‘girl’s night’ out. I thought it was a good idea. She clearly deserves it - baby’s gonna come any day soon.” Rick starts to pick up lego blocks scattered across the living room, tossing them into a red container.

“So I’m backup.”

“Yes, you’re backup.” Rick sighs in defeat much to Robert’s amusement.

Robert knew he wouldn’t be winning father of the year award anytime soon. But the little girl sitting in front of him playing with her dollhouse clearly thought differently.

“Uncle Robert!” She stands up, barreling into him like a mini rocket launcher. He lifts her, much to little Freya Flag’s delight.

“What you doing up so late little Miss?” Robert has Freya in his arms.

“I can’t sleep!” She protests, feeling the stubble on his chin before breaking out into giggles. Robert can smell the breath of skittles a mile away.

“Did you eat any candies?”

Freya nods enthusiastically. “Me and Daniel! We had a secret mission together. We ate it when Daddy wasn’t looking.”

It took great willpower for Robert not to laugh at the sheer thought of the children of a former commander getting past his nose.

At this moment, another pair of footsteps could be heard, revealing the exact carbon copy of Freya poking his head out of the wall - Daniel Flag.

“She’s gonna kill me when she comes back.” Rick mumbles as he picked up his son, giving a kiss on his chubby cheek.

At the mention of his mama, Daniel snuggles into Rick further. “Mama home?”

“Yeah buddy, Mama’s coming home soon.” He peers over to Robert, eyes pleading for help. Two kids, high on sugar.

Looks like the marksman had his work cut out for him.

“Honey! I’m home!” You entered with the two women who were helping to carry shopping bags.

“HEY FLAG! YA LADY IS HOME!” Harley tries a second time, but louder this time. You were still greeted with silence.

Cleo puts a hand out, beckoning you to stay behind her and Harley. You weren’t sure what was the fuss, but you knew better than to argue.

As Cleo turns into the living room, you hear a squeak from her pet rat, Sebastian.

“Everything’s alright!” Cleo gives a sigh of relief. “You might want to see this though.”

On the sofa was possibly the most heart-wrenchingly adorable sight you saw. Or maybe it was just the hormones raging inside you.

The two man are splayed beside each other, each of them with one twin.

Daniel is knocked out as he sleeps soundly on Robert’s thighs, not even budging at the sudden intrusion of Harley’s voice.

Freya, who was always a daddy’s girl leans against her father’s wide chest, snuggling further into him while Rick unconsciously adjusts his hold on her small frame.

It’s only then do you see the pink glitter that is painted over Rick’s fingernails. You can’t help but to take a quick photo for future keepsake.

“I knew there was good in Robert.” You see Cleo smiling as she does the very same. “Sebastian can see good in people you know.”

Just then, the rat jumps off her shoulder, scampering towards Rick. Nudging him slightly, Rick stirs, opening his eyes blearily. He doesn’t move from his position, least Freya wakes again.

“Heya buddy,” Rick pets Sebastian clumsily.

“Lemme get them to bed.” You started to move forward but was stopped by him.

“Nah, you rest darlin. I got this. Sides, princess here is out for the count.” Rick politely excuses himself as he trudges up the stairs with your family’s golden retriever, Champ following behind dutifully.

Rick comes down shortly after to repeat the same procedure, prying a sleepy Daniel from Robert who realizes the weight lifted off him.

“Good night Uncle Robert.” Your little boy waves sleepily before being carried away by his father.

“Now you just sit down here!” Harley quickly shoots down your protests to help with the bags as she brings them to the kitchen. Robert tags along, mumbling about the need for fresh air and a good stretch.

Sitting down, you decide to take the control to flip through the channels. Once you decided you were bored out of your mind, you realized that your husband had yet to come down. That wasn’t like him.

Slowly getting up, you reassure the young woman who was looking anxiously at you that you were simply going to check on Rick.

Padding down the hallway, you see from a far that the night light was visible from Freya’s room. Approaching the room quietly as possible, you peek inside.

Rick sits at the edge of her purple mattress, tapping her back in a rhythmic manner to send her back to dreamland.

You don’t go undetected for long as he sees you standing at the door. Kissing her cheek, he slips out of the room to join you in the hallway.

“The kids almost woke up again. Had to make sure they went back to sleep.” Rick tells you. As if you didn’t know the real reason.

“They really got you wrapped around their fingers huh?” You wrap your arms around your husband, smelling the coconut scented cream you had bought for him as a birthday gift.

Rick chuckles, “You have no idea baby.”

And he meant every word he said. All this while, military life meant everything to Rick. He didn’t think that the domestic life would ever suit him.

Until he was on the verge of death.

From being pulled out of the rubble by good samaritans, to a dingy operation room on the small island, all he could think about was the life he envisioned.

His hand gently caresses your stomach. “Thank you for being with me darlin. Thank you for giving me all of this.”

“Hey,” you urge him to look at you in the eyes. “None of that alright. I’m here with you. All the way.” You affirmed.

Rick takes a deep breath, leaning into your touch. He finally breaks away as Cleo comes into view, unsure if she was interrupting.

“Colonel Fl- I mean, Rick. Robert asked me to check on the both of you. He’s making ribs for supper.”

“Ribs!” You clapped your hands in enthusiasm making Rick chuckle. “Robert’s a lifesaver ya know that? Maybe I’ll name our little guy after him.” You pat your stomach. Rick could almost see you salivating.

“Don’t get too far ahead darlin.”

Setting foot at the bottom of the stairs, you see Robert begrudgingly wearing a “kiss the cook” apron that Harley had gotten her hands on earlier, flipping the tantalizing steaks and ribs.

“There you are ya lot!” Harley comes up behind the three of you, a tray of drinks in her hands. “Drinks for everyone- don’t worry I got it for Sebby too!” She gleefully passes a much smaller bottle to Cleo.

“As for you Missy,” Harley passes you a pink lemonade topped off with a lemon slice. “With compliments from yours truly.”

You gratefully accept it, making your way to the table with the help of your husband.

“You are amazing Robert,” you gush as he places the plate of steak in front of you. The man chuckles.

“Just don’t let your husband hear that.”

“Too late DuBois. You gotta teach me how to make that steak one day.” Rick stands beside him, clasping him on the back.

“And what, help you put those little cannonballs to sleep again?

“You know you love them.” Rick counters back. A moment of silence passes amongst all of you before the marksman breaks it.

“Yeah, I love those little firecrackers.”

The group bursts out laughing, clinking the glasses together.

The night deepens and conversations are filled with raucous laughter. Always attentive, Rick pulls you closer to his side while Harley rambles on about her pet hyenas to a slightly tipsy Cleo.

“Some night huh?”

“Well, I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

You lean into him, enjoying the starry view that the night had to offer from the patio with the rest of your mismatched but very lovable family.

Random question, but do you have any guess on the timeline? Like JB and Sarah seem to be in their season 1 finale clothes while in the episode that’ll take place in Charleston (where Kie is wearing the smiley face tee). How can that be?? We see them all jumping from the boat in different clothes and even in the Bahamas in different clothes. I’m so confused!!! Lol

Come on honey, what do you think I've been doing, analysing all the bts and spoilers we've gotten over the last year and cross referencing it with the trailer and still trying to construct some sort of timeline of events, like a crazy person?

Okay, yeah... timeline spec under the cut...

I'm not going to add photos for now because this is already so long but I can provide some in follow ups if y'all would like

So the big question is why the fuck are Sarah and John B in their finale outfits for so long if they are in the Bahamas in them and then back in Charleston in them. The answer, they aren't I'm thinking a week, two tops. If they were there longer they would have found other clothes, no question. But when does the time jump happen then? you may ask. Fucked if I know.

So I think John B and Sarah get to the Bahamas but apparently the cops are after them?

I guess maybe Ward know's and put out word? Maybe they aren't presumed dead for very long. The boat captain hears about these kids dying at sea and informs people that they actually picked those kids up and dropped them in the Bahamas.

Now, let try and make sense of Jarah B's time in the Bahamas.

They are on the run from the cops.

At some point Sarah gets kidnapped.

I predict this is on Ward's authority

Later when Sarah says 'she's driving' the same white vehicle that drove past and distracted her before getting kidnapped

They stole it in an escape attempt perhaps?

Later we have Jarah B in the green truck

They are confronted by Ward and Rafe

Who are wearing the same clothes they were when Ward shows Rafe the gold making me think this takes place in a small amount of time.

They push Ward to get away

Rafe aims a gun at them

Someone in a yellow jumper pushed his arm away

My prediction is Cleo - who I think works for Ward but ends up siding with Pogues

The gun still goes off and this might be where Sarah get her wound

Now after this I think Sarah and John B, for whatever reason, head back to the OBX. To do it I think they steal My Druthers Too - Wards Bahamas boat

In the meantime I believe this is when we have the pokie dock scene. Aka Kie in the pink top.

I truely can't make sense of what is happening in the dock scene but Pope doens't want Kie being cuddly, Kie storms off and then comes back because Pope has soemthing of hers? Idk man idk.

Kie and Pope get on the HMS which is just parked up in the marsh

At some point Kie and Pope - and I think JJ - are at the Wreck.

Then this brings us to the smiley face top and Charelston.

The day starts with JJ and Pope coming to pick up Kie and she fights with her parents

Kie is seen smiling on the dock at the Chateau

And then they are off to Charleston in Heywards truck.

The order of events here is unclear but a lot happens.

Pope goes to visit Limbrey

I think JJ and Kie have there own mission, which later leads to the shoulder touch while they are waiting for Pope

The Pogues reunite

They are seen wreaking havoc and collecting fuel, presumably for My Druthers Too

At this point Sarah is injured and at some point they have oversized white shirts over their finale clothes.

We see all the Pogues on My Druthers Too, maybe headed back to the OBX?

Next we have the police chase.

Now I think the Pogues are camped out on a beach somewhere the night before.

We have John B and Sarah in daylight sitting side by side.

At night Pokie do the same and lean in for a kiss

Perhaps now they have their friends back they can try and figure out what they are

The next day the cops find them, there is a chase along the beach.

They hide out in a swamp (the marsh?)

Sarah is struggling because of her wound

Sarah gets cornered by the cops on the Tannyhill dock

With what looks like John B's keys in her hand

John B gets arrested, as he's in those same clothes in his mug shot

He is facing the death penalty

Now this is why I believe John B get's exonerated midseason

He's been arrested, and they aren't going to stage a jailbreak

Also the pogues investigating the gold and having parties at the Chateau would not be happening while he's on the run

The still of Pope, Kie and JJ at the Chateau I think is them seeing John B after he got out.

There is also a police raid on Tannyhill

I think arresting Ward

Then the Pouges have their cats ass party to celebrate John B being a free man.

Rafe is out for revenge against John B and goes to Barry for help

They go to the Chateau and shoot at JJ

I don't think this is in the same night but I could be wrong

Now, I'm thinking that it is possible the time jump isn't until this point. I don't think it will be a large time jump - a month or so

All the outfits I have mentioned until now are still warm summer ones.

So there is a small jump with the pogues going back to school, everyone is now wearing jumpers and such

I think they are trying to frame it as it's just the three of them that are back at school but it's not

Again I could be wrong

Now because of the jumpers I think the storm drain/sewer scene happens after this time jump

In this case I don't know what the pogues are up to in that time Jarah B are in the Bahamas

I think the sewer scene might be about this mission they are on with finding keys and the map room and Pope up on the rafters ect. All at the word of Limbrey.

The scene where Kie and Pope find the key maybe before the time jump.

It's of note that there are pictures of JD and Maddie where Pope is wearing that outfit from the key finding but Kie seems to have changed.

I also think Kie getting/almost getting Tboned by the ambuecne takes place while Kie is wearing the key finding top

The next big scene that I'm sure of is when the pogues find the map room - because of the outfits

We see Pope happy in the Twinkie

The Pogues discover the room

There is a still of them lurking in the bushes

The find an old abandoned building and Pope falls from the rafters trying to find something and John B and JJ fail to catch him

Pope is in the twinkie with blue light flashing - looking worried

And Pope has mud on his face with some sort of cargo behind him

The order of these events is probably different

And then onto the explosion

The pogues are at Tannyhill the day of the explosion, Wheezie is also there and there is a cop car there

They are riding around in the twinkie at some point

And as they watch the explosion happen Sarah is barefoot

Then I guess we move onto back to the bahamas

Because of course they aren't letting go of the gold.

It looks like they stow away onto a cargo ship to get to the Bahamas

We see JJ and Kie at what I'm guessing is a port before they get on this ship

On the ship - my guess - we have JJ and Kie do the handshake, everything's going according to plan

The plan? Get off the boat before they make port

We see John B and Sarah jump

And then we see them waiting in the life boat as Pope and Cleo Jump

JJ and Kie are nowhere to be seen

What we do see if what I think is Rafe trying to stop them

I think this is when JJ gets hurt, they both jump from the ship but perhaps JJ is unconscious, he's got blood on his head

He gets pulled to the boat

Kie is freaking out but the shot we get is after he has come to and they know he is alright

You can see Sarah smiling in the background, Kie almost looks relieved and you can see JJ's lips starting to turn up in a smile

The Pogues then make it to the beach safe and sound and I guess in the Bahamas

There is at least one costume change of them - like did they pack bags?

Kie is in a white top and jean short when Sarah is in the grey bikini from 'back in the g game baby' which I think will be one of the last scenes in the show - which is odd that they would show us but I think they were trying to make us think that was at the start of the series to throw us off

There are also the photos where Kie is back in the eagle top and JB is in the fruit slices one that he jumped ship in... I can't really make sense of that.

Anyway I think that's a basic rundown of my current thoughts. There's still some outfits that I can't place to a scene other than a vague, they are here and these people are these. I could be way off but it's where my head is at right now.
