During the procedure, the lungs are substituted with a heart-lung machine, which also pumps blood. The surgeon then closes the gap between the ventricles. Despite the resumption of out-patient departments (OPDs) for non-Kovid patients at BYL Nair and King Edward Memorial (KEM) hospitals, the city continues to wreak havoc, up to 80% compared to pre-Kovid days has fallen .
Civil authorities have attributed the decline in patients to fear of contracting novel coronavirus infections in Civic-operated hospitals.
“Another reason for the low footfall is the ban on local train services as major civil hospitals receive patients from far-flung areas like Vasai and Virar. We have also seen that resident citizens prefer local private clinics over hospitals, ”said Suresh Kakani, Additional Municipal Corporation Commissioner.
A health official of the Brihanman Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that in several recovered Kovid-19 patients with lung fibrosis, diabetes, high blood pressure and breathlessness, KEM Hospital will start its post-Kovid OPD by 19 August. Cardiologists, pulmonologists and diabetologists will participate in OPD for patients with other specialists.
Before the Kovid outbreak, the 1,500-bed KEM hospital used to record 7,000 OPD patients per day, while the Nair hospital had more than 4,000 patients. After Kovid-19, hospitals had to discontinue their OPD services to avoid any possible spread of infection to non-Kovid patients. After five months, the hospitals opened their OPD in the first week of August.
Dean of Nair Hospital Drs. Shailesh Mohite said, “Considering our hospital was a dedicated Kovid care hospital, people are still afraid to come here for a non-Kovid diagnosis. We are achieving 20% of the total footfall used to achieve pre-Kovid. "
Similarly, KEM Hospital has seen a 70% fall in the patient's leg, Dean Drs. Hemant Deshmukh said.
Meanwhile, Drs. RN Cooper Municipal General Hospital, a partially converted Kovid-19 hospital, is receiving the most non-Kovid patients in its OPD. For the past two months, the hospital has been running two different OPDs - a fever clinic for suspected Kovid-19 patients and a general OPD. By the first week of July, they were receiving about 200 patients daily; The number has grown to over 1,000 in this month.

EDGEWOOD, Ky. (WKRC) – Before you jump on that high-fat eating plan to drop pounds, there are some things you should know about its effects on blood pressure.
It's all the rage: the high-fat diet, or what's commonly called the keto plan for ketosis, which forces the body to burn fat for fuel. Cardiologists at the St. Elizabeth Heart and Vascular Institute say it may not be the best thing for your blood pressure.
Every week, Jennifer Siffel stops in at the blood pressure kiosk at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood to check her blood pressure. She's taking medication, and she hopes with the right lifestyle changes, she soon won't need it anymore.
Her diet is a wide variety of plant-based foods recommended by the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, or DASH, diet. But for many turning to the keto plan, Dr. DP Suresh says, when it comes to blood pressure, he doesn't recommend it.
He says the problem is that, as new research in the American Journal of Physiology, Heart and Circulatory Physiology shows, when it comes to blood pressure, a diet 75 percent fat, 20 percent protein and 5 percent carbs — which is what a high-fat plan recommends — while you may switch the body to starvation and burn fat for fuel, when you do that the hormones released actually increase your blood pressure.
Dr. Suresh says when it comes to any diet that promotes rapid weight loss, there is nothing beneficial in the weight loss. He advises instead to lose the weight gradually over 12 months, saying your blood pressure wouldn't go up.
You also tend to keep weight off when you lose weight gradually, and gradual weight loss can help manage blood pressure.
