Birthday Surprise
Prologue
Dr. Ethan Ramsey had many talents; planning a birthday party for his partner, Dr. Lilac Allende wasn’t one of them. As much as it would hurt his ego to ask for help, she was more important. So, he found himself seeking assistance from the unlikeliest of sources: Dr. Casey MacTavish who was a close friend of Lilac’s and his teammate, Dr. Tobias Carrick’s girlfriend.
Casey, of course, took over and the idea of a simple birthday dinner snowballed into a surprise birthday party on the eve of the medical conference that Lilac was speaking at close to home. Before Ethan knew it, Casey and a flock of eight other women, all esteemed doctors from around the country that would be in town for the conference, took over the celebration.
Ethan had certainly heard Lilac mention them all before; apparently, they were all founding members of Future Women Leaders in Medicine, so they couldn’t really be bad, he thought. Right?
The ecstatic expression on Lilac’s face when she saw them after walking into the restaurant where the party was being held had certainly allayed his concerns. But the way they shared secret smiles with each other and spoke in code, told him that it was going to be an interesting night.
------------------------
Charley Valentine was having a conversation with Casey when she noticed that Genevieve had stopped talking and was smiling towards the doorway. Charley turned her head to see what, or rather, who had caught the other doctor’s attention.
She smiled and grabbed a glass of champagne and headed towards the door. Lilac was standing just in the doorway next to Dr. Ethan Ramsey, who was looking just a little bit satisfied that he had managed to keep this a surprise from Lilac.
Charley hugged her friend. Lilac hugged her back and pulled her to the side. “Except for Casey, you all said that you weren’t able to get away!”
Charley laughed. “We wouldn’t miss the chance to see your speech tomorrow! It was so convenient that it fell right in line with your birthday!”
Charley handed her the champagne and turned to Ethan. “Sorry, I didn’t pass any Scotch on my way over.”
Charley led Lilac away from Ethan and towards the other eight women who were all smiles and laughter.
One of them called out, “You didn’t think we’d miss this, did you?”
Charley tapped her glass.
“Now that we are all here, I’d like to propose a toast to Lilac. Youngest Director of Diagnostics at Edenbrook. First one of us to be asked to present the keynote speech at a major conference. I’ve been in awe of you ever since I read about how you stood up to big pharma in your intern year, and I’ve loved sharing ideas with you for the past few years in FWLM. Thank you for all you do.”
Lilac hugged her and Charley looked around. “Who’s next?”
Silence permeated as the group of intelligent, fearless women, all masters in their field, looked at each other awkwardly and then — horrors — even giggled slightly. Apparently none were immune to the possibility of a little bit of stage fright.
“Oh, for Pete’s—” A tall redhead looked up from her phone and shook her strawberry waves. “Guess it has to be me, then, amiright ladies?”
Lilac caught eyes with Dr. Brooke Spiers, colleague and friend, and bit her lip as she held back a smirk, accompanied by a mock-disparaging headshake.
“Didn’t think you’d ever be one to say no to being the center of attention,” she called out as Brooke strode to the front of the group, wobbling only slightly in her heels.
Ethan, who agreed with his girlfriend’s assessment of the...outspoken Dr. Spiers, only snorted.
“You know me,” Brooke responded with a wink, holding her champagne glass high. “This is to Lilac. My first friend at Edenbrook during that tumultuous intern year—”
“—Yeah, until you ditched me to fast track to your cardiology fellowship—”
“—I said first friend, not last or only; god you’re a needy bitch.” Brooke paused as the room laughed at her snarky candor, Lilac the loudest of them all. “Also, I don’t think the words ‘fast track’ and ‘cardiology fellowship’ have ever been used in the same sentence, but thanks for the vote of confidence, babe.”
“Anyway,” she looked pointedly at Lilac, “what I was saying was, there is no greater gift in my mind than being able to toast this ultimate gem of a woman. The best and brightest in your field, the better half of one of the greatest medical partnerships known to man—”
Ethan rolled his eyes but, as he couldn’t dispute Brooke’s assessment, he simply pulled Dr. Allende closer instead.
“—and the most loyal and amazing person I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.” Brooke smiled warmly, her eyes sparkling with mirth and affection. “Love you, girl. Thanks for all you’ve taught me and all you continue to do to have my back. To have all our backs.”
She raised her glass up in the air. “To Lilac!”
“To Lilac!” the room echoed, a unanimous affirmation of Brooke’s words, as the toastmaster in question downed her glass of champagne in one gulp, the other arm wrapped around Lilac, who had come in for a quick, grateful embrace.
“Alright!” Brooke turned to the group as she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, one arm still around Dr. Allende’s shoulders. “Next?”
“Eh-hrm,” a young woman with cascading, blonde hair caught everyone’s attention as she got up from her seat and sauntered to the front, taking her place where Brooke had stood previously. “I have a few words for our dear friend Lilac.”
An impish smile on Lilac’s lips grew wider while she gazed affectionately at her fellow friend, Dr. Marchia Bisognin.
“That’s my girl!” the birthday girl exclaimed loudly, hands clapping, unable to contain the tender pride expanding in her chest. Three years ago, Marchia wouldn’t even be able to stand in front of two people, let alone a small crowd. Yet, now, she found confidence, poise in herself—all thanks to Lilac.
“When I met you at that World Health Summit, I knew you were bound to get me into some trouble, babe,” Marchia shrugged, words laced with a hint of amusement, allowing a sheepish grin to spread across her face. “And I bet you’re going to get us into some shenanigans, too, tonight!”
A tide of uproarious laughter escaped the flock of beautiful women once again.
“But all of us wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you, my dear,” she continued, a warm smile trembling to be released. “So, let me raise a toast to one of the most inspiring, brilliant, and thoughtful individuals I have ever known, Lilac Valentina Allende.”
Everyone cheered as Marchia raised her own glass, glittering under the golden light.
“May your life be filled with love, happiness, and of course,” she paused for a moment, a mischievous gleam evident in her eyes. “Lots of incredible, mind-blowing sex, because Lord knows you’re insatiable, babe.”
Lilac laughed out loud, while her handsome companion—the ever-stoic Dr. Ethan Ramsey—tried to hide the flush spreading across his cheeks that threatened to embarrass him.
Marchia approached the brunette doctor, lips curved into a beaming smile. Bodies crashing in an overjoyed hug, she leaned into her and added, “We all love you, babe.”
“Alright, who wants to go next?” Marchia asked, looking back at her friends and associates.
“Now that I’ve had a drink and I’ve loosened up a bit, I will.” Victoria stepped forward as everyone chuckled.
“This could take a while.” Lilac muttered.
“I’ve kept it short and sweet,” she quipped. “The first time I met Lilac, I nearly didn’t make it to the conference as my alarm didn't go off. I was running super late and only made it when someone held the door open for me to get into the lecture hall. It’s fair to say Lilac found it amusing which is why we sat next to each other and since then it’s been nothing but laughter and smiles.”
“You are the funniest and nicest person I’ve ever met and I’m so glad I am able to call you my friend. I can’t wait to move to Boston next year with Ben and I’m so excited that we’ll be in the same city. And Ethan, if you ever hurt her, just know that you’ll have to deal with all of us. Cheers!” Victoria raised her glass smiling.
“Wow, that really was short and sweet.” Lilac laughed.
“I don’t make promises I can’t keep.” Victoria laughed. “Who’s next because I really want to get started on that buffet.”
“I’ll go,” said a young woman with bright red hair.
Natalie stood up, grabbing a nearby glass of champagne as she began her speech.
“First of all, happy birthday, Lilac. I hope this one, followed by every one after, is memorable and full of happiness! I’m so lucky to be surrounded by some of the most incredible women I’ve ever met. And, while I already knew Gen, Casey, and Charley from school, I never would have met everyone else if it hadn’t been for Lilac bringing us all together.”
“Lil, you light up every room you walk into and you’re the most badass bitch to ever walk this earth.” Natalie raised her glass towards the birthday girl. “I’m so proud of you and I’m so grateful to call you my friend. Happy birthday, babe. To Lilac!”
Everyone else followed suit, echoing her sentiments with their glasses raised in Lilac’s direction.
“All right, who’s next?” said Natalie.
“I’ll go!” Another blonde stepped forward, holding her glass high in the air.
“My dear friend, it’s truly been an honor to know you and watch you become the amazing doctor you are. I remember the first day we met, when Patrick introduced us when I went to visit him at UCLA. He said ‘I know you two will get along great’. Which I admit, I wasn’t completely convinced, because you were so outgoing and confident. I was the opposite. But, he was right. A shock, to us both I’m sure. Because when is he ever right?”
Genevieve giggled, causing Lilac to laugh as well. A knowing smile on both their faces.
“And I’m glad he was. Because knowing you has changed my life for the better. You’ve taught me so much, inspired me with your bravery and strength to never give up. And I thank you for that. So today of all days, I am so happy to celebrate you, Lilac Allende. Happy birthday!”
Gen tilted her glass towards her friend, smiling brightly.
“Okay who wants to go next? Because if I keep talking I’ll start crying.”
Dr. Cassie Valentine was too busy flirting with her fiance, Jackson, to notice her friends looking at her with amusement. If it hadn't been for Brooke loudly clearing her throat behind her and Casey tapping her feet to capture her attention, Cassie would have missed the entire point of the evening.
Glancing sheepishly at everyone, she stepped up to join her friends near the front of the room, grabbing a glass of champagne on the way.
"When my fellow Hopkins alum Vic first told me about Lilac and how she'd make a great co-chair for the Future Women Leaders in Medicine initiative, I was skeptical," she said, shrugging her shoulders.
"Sure, I'd heard about her exploits as an intern and her appointment to lead the famous Edenbrook Diagnostics team. But internal medicine always thinks they understand the human body better than psychiatry does the mind, so I kept my counsel. However, one meeting was all it took for me to realize that she is everything that people said she was, and a whole lot more than they can even fathom."
"She would be perfect," said Cassie with a laugh, "if only she'd realize that running actually is good for you rather than complaining endlessly about it. I love her anyway and couldn't ask for a better co-chair. To Lilac and defying expectations, one giant step at a time. Happy birthday, babe!"
With that, Cassie raised her glass in a salute and smiled at the woman whose lifelong friendship she’d treasure forever.
“Jill, Casey?” she asked, glancing at the two women left. “Which one of you wants to go next?”
“I’ll go.” Jill grinned radiantly and walked confidently to the front.
“Jesus Christ,” Ethan muttered under his breath. Jill was like the little sister he never wanted, so he could only dread the kind of speech she had prepared.
Jillian ran a hand through her ginger bronze hair as she joined the group of women, took a deep breath and faced the crowd with grace.
“When I came to visit Ethan all those years ago, the last thing I expected was to see him completely enraptured by an intern. I had known Ethan for years, and the Dr. Ramsey I saw was nothing like the one I knew. It was like I was staring at the best version of his grumpy self. Because that’s what Lilac did to him, she brought out his best. They weren’t together then, but I clearly remember thinking, ‘I have to get to know her’. Of course, Ethan being Ethan tried to prevent it, but he should’ve known most of the time I get away with what I want.”
That earned a few half-hearted laughs among the crowd. Even Ethan’s lips were slightly curled upwards, “I hate you.”
Jill smirked, but refrained herself from teasing Ethan further. This was for Lilac. She shook her head softly and focused once again on her speech for her friend.
“The moment I met Lilac, everything just clicked in my mind, it all made sense; I understood why my brother’s best friend was so floored by her, and honestly, so was I. With her quick wit and undenying charm, Lilac has a warm aura that just pulls you in, whether you’re a patient, a colleague, or a stranger; she has a way to make everyone feel cared for. Along with her brilliant mind, she has a heart of gold.”
“It’s been an honor getting to know her professionally, but even more personally, and I feel so grateful for her,” the ginger-haired doctor sent her a dazzling smile, “Lil, my darling, you’re one of the best things to ever happen to all of us. You made us a family, one that I would never change for anything in this world. Without you, I wouldn’t have met these wonderful ladies, and none of us would be the women we are today. You’re an inspiration to all of us.”
“So, on this day, I want to toast to you, to celebrate all that you are, in all your wonderful glory. Here’s to Lilac Allende, the most brilliant and promising doctor her age, and the best friend a girl could ask for. I hope we get to celebrate by your side many years to come. I love you, Lil. Happy birthday,” Jill raised her flute and took a demure sip.
“Jill, amiga!” Lilac pushed through and gave her a huge hug, the gesture speaking enough for both of them.
“That wasn’t so bad,” Ethan looked relieved.
“Figured I would save the humiliation for your birthday,” Jill winked at him, causing him to scoff. “Besides, this is for Lilac, not for you. Wait for your turn, old man.”
“Hilarious,” he rolled his eyes.
“Don’t call victory yet,” Jill whispered, pointing covertly to the last blonde. “Casey still can. And you know she’s the… wildest of us.”
Liliac stretched her neck to survey the room, she raised an eyebrow and smirked when she caught Casey, giggling at something (likely inappropriate) her boyfriend Tobias was whispering in her ear.
“OK, MacTavish, can you save that mierda for later and get on with honoring me?” Liliac winked, “Some of us want to get to drinking and dancing, girl.”
Embarrassed, Casey jumped up from her seat, straightening her dress as she made her way to the front of the room.
“Hey, they were just saving the best for last,” Tobias heckled.
“Oh, Jesus, she’s not going to let him speak, is she?” Ethan grumbled.
Both women looked at their partners and all laughed when they playfully chided “Shut up!” at the same time.
Casey looked at Lilac and smiled, “We’ve gotta keep them in line!”
Lilac raised her glass and smiled, “You know it!” she said before downing her glass.
“Hey, wait! We didn’t finish the toast yet!” Gen called out, a half-filled champagne glass in her hand.
“She’s the birthday girl, she can do whatever she pleases,” Casey winked, “but, uhm, waiter, can we get a refill over here… for her? Thanks.”
“Anyway, I met Lilac poolside, during a conference in Key Biscayne our last year of med school,” continued Casey. “I remember thinking, who is this woman trying to one up me in that hot red bathing suit she had going on? But I didn’t actually meet her until we both made our way up to the bar to get one of the Penicillin cocktails they had lined up…”
She shrugged. “Hey neither of us named it… we thought it was tacky too.”
“Back to the story, some obnoxious man saw us approaching and he ran over and grabbed one of the two remaining drinks just before we arrived. We stared at each other, torn between our good-girl sides that were telling us to be polite, and our ‘I’m a broke med school student here for the free booze’ sides that really wanted to fight the other for the drink. Fortunately, a very handsome bartender named…”
“Miguel!” Lilac yelled.
“That’s right!” Casey laughed. “Miguel came up and said ‘Don’t worry ladies, there’s more where that came from.’ He placed a tray before us and walked off. Lilac and I looked at each other and, at the exact same time, said, ‘You take the drink, I’m going to get him’.”
All the women hollered at the punch line.
“That’s right!” Lilac laughed.
“Well, who won?” yelled Tobias as Ethan covered his face with a groan.
“That’s not the point,” Casey smiled.
“Ah, that means Lilac won,” Tobias winked.
“Oh, Jesus, Christ…” Ethan sighed.
“It’s OK, babe, it was a long time ago,” said Lilac, patting his knee.
“Be that as it may,” interrupted Casey, “That was the day I knew I met an exceptional woman. Someone who knew when to be serious, knew when to have fun, someone who knew right from wrong and was going to fight like hell to make this world of medicine, the world itself, a better place.”
Casey raised her glass.
“Since then I have been proud to call her a colleague, but it is an even bigger honor to call her a friend. So, ladies and gentlemen, if you would please raise your glasses to the woman, the doctor, the legend… Lilac.”

When It Rains (Ethan x MC)
Tumblr media
Book: Open Heart Pairing: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x Dr. Marchia Ramsey (F!MC) Premise: A little dance underneath the gentle drizzle. Rating / Category: General / Fluff Warning(s): None Word Count: 384 words Artist: @/artbyainna on Instagram
A plateau of dull grey sat above them, large clouds huddled together as they walked down the narrow streets of Paris. It was quiet down there, with only the discordant rumbling of thunder as their companion, getting louder and louder. As the fresh scent of earthiness galloped with the winds, they are reminded again about the oncoming rain that was about to fall.
The couple quickened their pace, hoping to seek refuge as soon as possible. Warm lights guided them to their next destination—a place that was merely a few meters ahead, couple minutes away.
Yet, they were too late.
Marchia looked up, the dark sky drumming with the anticipation of release. Soon enough, droplets of water poured on to the pavements, singing an enchanting serenade to those who are willing to listen. A harmonic, gentle tune that soothes the mind, mends the soul.
And all of the sudden, she halted.
Her right hand, locked in with his, pulled Ethan’s body to an abrupt stop. He turned to face his wife, thoroughly confused and intrigued to find the reason behind this act.
What he saw, however, took his breath away.
Her rose cheeks gleamed, lips casting a smile that would turn his stomach upside down. Pearls of water run through her gold dusky hair, slowly trickling downwards to reach her dress. The white chiffon material became lightly soaked under the drizzle, translucent, outlining the perfect symmetry of her sylphlike figure.
Surrounded by an ethereal glow, Ethan was blessed with the glorious view of his Queen, the ruler of his heart.
He moved closer, placing one hand on her hips, and another on the nape of her neck. Glued together, his thunderous ocean eyes locked with Marchia, letting himself drown in the depths of her emerald forest—feasting in the irrefutable existence of her beauty.
“Kiss me,” she whispered.
Without any preamble, he granted her simple yet tantalizing wish. His grip around her tightened, then in one swift movement, he swirled her petite body. A short squeal escaped her, followed by her signature giggles. As cliché and cheesy as it sounds, Ethan could not wait to capture her lips and taste her once more.
Because he was all hers, until the end of time.

Stunning (Ethan x MC)
Tumblr media
Book: Open Heart Pairing: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x Dr. Marchia Bisognin (F!MC) Premise: The dazzling couple spent their night at the Opera House.  Rating / Category: Mature / Semi-NSFW; Fluff Warning(s): Suggestive adult theme, strong language Word Count: 236 words Artist: @/artbyainna on Instagram
“You look stunning.”
A thrill ran up her spine. Marchia had heard him whisper those exact words a million times, yet somehow, her heart leaped into the sky—just like the first time he uttered them for her. His arms ardently came around the warmth of her waist, pining her tightly against the wall.
Precisely where he wanted her to be.
“Maybe it’s time for you to wear some glasses, sayang,” she teased, her fingers hooked on his grey tie, pulling him closer.
“Or maybe it’s time for me to rip off that dress.”
His head leaned down, pressing a hot trail of kisses up her neck, biting on her delicate skin softly. In mere seconds, he finally reached her jaws—uncontrollably consumed by the sensation of her exposed skin. Feeling utterly greedy, he turned to meet her lips, but was greeted with some resistance from her finger.
“Ah-ah-ah,” she playfully chastised. “Not so fast, Doctor Ramsey. The show’s about to start.”
He slightly lifted a brow, countering the young blonde with his own taunting smile. Dark, hooded eyes gazed right into hers, harboring a quiet yet passionate intensity. She knew exactly what he was planning—entirely too filthy to be declared to the public.
Ethan could not quite temper the grin that spread across his striking face as he murmured,  “Then we’ll continue our show when we get home.”
Tumblr media

Dream (Ethan x MC)
Book: Open Heart Pairing: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x Dr. Marchia Ramsey (F!MC) Premise: No matter what time it is, they’ll always find their way to love each other. Rating / Category: General / Fluff Warning(s): None Word Count: 712 words

Tumblr media
A blanket of stars covered the dark blue sky, playing a game of hide-and-seek with those who seek to spend their sleepless night in peace. Everything felt serene and quiet, away from all the mayhem that lurked in Boston. The twinkling, mischievous luminaries had invited their old friend to join them; a glowing sphere that clung on to the familiar darkness with absolute credence.
The pale crescent moon had spilled its silvery radiance on the marbled bedroom floor, helpfully guiding Marchia and ever-growing bump to their destination. At this point, it had become a tiresome routine, really, to wake up every fifteen to thirty minutes in the middle of the dark.
Not that she wants to do it every single time—God, no.
But her beautiful, humongous unborn child had kicked and pushed her poor bladder to its limits. The young diagnostician certainly knew better than to ignore the powerful urge to release that certain bodily fluid.
As if on autopilot, her restless body had forced her to get up, feet dragging to the nearest loo in the process. Her movements were instinctual, habitual—though utterly vexatious. Most days, Marchia enjoyed being pregnant. This exact moment, however, was not part of the things she relished as a pregnant lady.
After finishing her business in the bathroom, she slowly waddled to her favorite part of the house: their kitchen. Immediately after entering the beloved space, her dearest ginger tea was calling out her name, while the leftover oatmeal cookies Ethan made earlier today whispered sweet nothings to her ears.
“Bingo,” she muttered to herself.
A little midnight snack might just be the perfect answer.
Chomping down on her last cookie, Marchia finally grabbed her piping hot tea and a glass of water, then toddled straight back to their bedroom. Once she had put down her drink, she tiptoed to her Ethan’s nightstand and placed his cup.
Hands absently rubbing her swollen belly, she took in the sight of her husband in absolute tranquility and silence of their abode. Tilting his heavy head to the side, he gifted her with the slightest hint of smile; a smile as warm as sunshine on a rainy day. Genuine, unadulterated bliss—etched on the very same face of a man who once claimed that love was nothing more than some neurochemical response.
The expectant mother lowered her head gently and whispered into the shell of his ear, “Dream a little dream of me, sayang.”
Before parting ways, she quickly gave a delicate and loving kiss on Ethan’s forehead. Her soft lips touched his warm temples, and for awhile, all is right with the world. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and let her mind wander—counting down to the very minute she could do the same for their little angel.
Marchia walked back to her side of the bed, making sure that her husband was still sound asleep. She wiggled and outstretched her slender legs, then tucked herself inside the warm duvet. In a matter of seconds, she had snoozed to dreamland.
Little did she know that her little kiss had awoken her dashing husband.
In one swift move, Ethan turned to face her in their bed. His hand had easily found its path to her protruding abdomen, hidden under the thick cover. He carefully stroked her belly, lulling her further into a state of deep slumber.
Brilliant azure orbs looked at her such ease and love. Life was so incredibly kind—and one could even argue that life was too kind—to bless them with the biggest miracle in life. He felt a small pang in his chest as he realizes that this was his life now, his family.
And he would not trade this for anything else.
Snuggling closer to his wife, he reached out and gave featherlight kisses her on cheeks, her temples, her nose, and her lips. Unbridled happiness fill him as he watched her sleeping peacefully.
“I love you, Chia,” he murmured.
Then, he gave his final kiss to the wonderful new addition in their lives.
“And I love you too, little baby,” his soft voice fluttered around her large belly. “I won’t let anyone hurt you. You’re safe with me—with us, together.”
As his cheek pulled itself outwards, radiating his biggest smile ever, Ethan had known one thing’s for sure: he’s the luckiest man alive.

An Introduction
Book: Open Heart Pairing: Dr. Tobias Carrick x ? (F!OC); Dr. Ethan Ramsey x Dr. Marchia Bisognin (F!MC) Premise: A night at Donahue’s took an unexpected turn. Rating / Category: Teen / Slow Burn; A Side of Fluff Warning(s): None Word Count: 1004 words
A/N: Remember what I said on that taglist clean-up post? Yeah... Inspiration struck and I went with it. Suuuuuper-duper anxious of exploring this new dynamic, but I really do hope that y’all will enjoy this. 🤍
Tumblr media
A cacophony of inharmonious laughter unfurled across Donahue’s tonight. The place was far more crowded than its typical Saturday night, mostly swarmed with regular patrons and other guests, binge drinking after their weekend shift. If Tobias thought that this was a good place to clear his head and get some peace, then Ethan must be right—he was not as bright as he claimed to be.
Maudlin surgical interns were singing their hearts out in front of the jukebox, screaming tunelessly to George Michael’s Careless Whisper, while the other half guffawed at the pitiful sight. Near the pool tables, residents from Edenbrook and Mass Kenmore were commencing their monthly billiards competition, which would somehow always end with them having a dance-off.
Tobias walked through the buzzing throng, the lively spirit thrumming inside his veins. As he settle down in his usual seat near the end of the bar, he came up with a plan to get through the evening. The scheme involves: getting a drink, chugging it in three gulps, getting another alcoholic drink, taking said drink(s) to Ethan and Marchia’s booth, and spending the rest of the night asking them to ‘get a room!’ because they are sickeningly too flirtatious at this point.
Plain and simple, right?
With a little bit of luck, he raised his hand and caught Reggie, who had swiftly placed his usual scotch in front of him. Days like these made him thankful that he was not an intern anymore; trying to get drunk from sugary shots that would send him straight to the dentist.
“One virgin mojito, please.”
A honeyed, melodious voice parted her away from the rest of the raucous tune that filled the space. She brought the fresh spring air with her—that long awaited, delicate floral scent pouring over him after a long drought. Her elbows hit the sleek wooden surface as she leaned against it.
Driven by primitive instincts, light blue eyes turned its gaze to unveil the unknown figure. He immediately blurted out the only thing he could think of.
“Hey.”
Smooth, Carrick. Real smooth.
“Hi there,” she replied.
Voluminous, lush curls spilled over her caramel skin—greeting him along with her dazzling smile. Warm lights accentuated her red silk dress; the lustrous fabric desperately clutching on to her sculptural form. It was the kind of dress that would catch everyone’s attention and leave them breathless, including himself.
“You new here?”
The young brunette paused a beat to dissect his suspicious question—though it was more likely that she could not hear his inquiry under this god-awful music.
“Perhaps,” she returned, giving a nonchalant shrug. “Is it that obvious?”
The sudden air of mystery thrilled him.
“To the eyes of an observer, yes.”
“An observer, or a creep?”
“A diagnostician, to be exact,” he playfully corrected. His response earned him an intrigued smirk, beautifully painted across her radiant face. “Tobias Carrick, at your service.”
“Hrm,” she grunted vaguely, swinging her head back and forth in acknowledgement. “I’m guessing you work at Edenbrook, then?”
“Yeah, though I’m still relatively new there. Used to work at Mass Kenmore.”
Another beat of pause.
She sipped her drink thoughtfully, before continuing with, “So, I’m also guessing that you were the one that ruined MK’s diagnostics team national ranking, then?”
“Whoa, slow down there. I did not—”
“On top of that, you abandoned your team and jumped ship when you heard Leland Bloom was hiring,” she interjected, her voice thick with coldness. “Impressive leadership skills you got there, champ.”
This time, Tobias was struck senselessly.
There was something angry weighing in her words, an urgency that made her remarks sharp and displeased. Aqua blue orbs stared into her hazel ones, his mind in a haze as he hopelessly tried to figure out who she was, or why she somehow already knew him. His dazed look mirrored his emotions.
Before he could say his piece, however, she turned to the bar and clutched her drink, ready to leave the poor man hanging.
“Have a good night, Doctor Carrick.”
Words escaped him once more. Standing still, frozen like an ice, he was left with the view of the mysterious woman fading into the crowd of dancing bodies. Burned by his own thoughts, Tobias snapped himself out of this mental obscurity and gulped the rest of his scotch. He let his feet quickly carry him towards Ethan, tucked inside his booth.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” the Chief of Medicine sneered, inspecting his colleague’s demeanor from head to toe.
He plopped himself down to the springy seat. “Actually, I met this girl, and—”
“Ah, your latest victim,” he deadpanned, shooting Tobias with a mischievous grin.
“Ha-ha, very funny, Ramsey. Now, where’s your girl?”
Ethan lifted a brow in question. “Why do you need Marchia?”
“I need her FBI slash detective skills to track her down.”
“Right. That’s not psychopathic at all.”
“Just...” he lowered his head in defeat, entirely too tired to argue with Ethan. “Tell me where she is, please.”
“Chia’s meeting an old friend and bringing her here. She’ll be here any sec— Oh! There she is.”
Ethan waved his hand from their booth, catching Marchia’s attention. She steadily made her way, separating the sea of rowdy horde with her tiny figure, and finally emerged victorious in front of their table.
“Hey, you two! Let me introduce my high-school buddy,” she turned to the direction of the dance floor, signaling her friend to come closer. “She just moved to Boston and got a job at MK as their Head of Diagnostics team!”
The sound of her heels, clicking against the marbled floor, was all to familiar in his ears. In a matter of seconds, the sharp noise stopped in front of them—his heart pounding, ready to burst out of his chest. With herculean strength, Tobias slowly lifted his head to meet his fate.
“Nyla Imani Hassan,” she offered her hand, the tiniest cocky grin on her face. “At your service.”

Photo of Us (Ethan x MC)

Tumblr media
Loud, insistent thumping noise coming from his home office stopped Ethan in his tracks. He was certain that he had locked the doors to prevent Jenner—currently spending the night at their humble abode—from wreaking havoc and destroying every single piece of paper in his workroom.
Yet, somehow, the grand mahogany entryway had a slight gap.
Carefully stepping closer to the room, his long arm reached out to push the heavy doorway—mostly expecting the view of his overly-energetic dog chewing through his important documents. To Ethan’s surprise, however, there was no Jenner in sight.
Instead, he found a small figure standing beside his work table, clearly unaware that someone else has entered the small space. Wrapped in her white silk pajamas, the young blonde was violently smacking his Epson printer like there was no tomorrow.
“Why,” she huffed, followed by another thwack sound that bounced on the walls. “Won’t you work?!”
“Most likely because you keep slapping at it, my love.”
Her petite shoulders jumped at the stern, yet loving tone of his voice. Turning around to look at him, Marchia donned her sweetest smile on to her extremely blushed face—half embarrassed and half befuddled as to why she did not ask his help in the first place. In hindsight, it really does seem like the young blonde was trying to smash and ruin his expensive valuables.
“Technology hates me,” she sighed, running an aggravated hand through her messy hair. “I’ve been trying for half an hour, but the thing won’t let me print!”
“Here,” Ethan smiled, eyes shifting to the little black machine alongside his laptop. “Let me help you.”
Rough, familiar hands tinkered on portable computer; trying to analyze the problem that had arisen. His sharp brunette brows pulled together, signature stoic expression placed atop his countenance—utterly determined to figure out what went wrong.
And, as expected by the young doctor, he found the missing puzzle piece soon enough.
Rotating his muscular figure to meet her, his cerulean eyes looked down at Marchia. For a fleeting moment, she thought Ethan was simply glaring at her for her absolute stupidity and absurdity—which is well deserved, really. Then, she realized that he was not glaring; he’s fighting a laugh.
“How have you survived this long by yourself?” he quipped, a hearty smile easily broke across face.
“Honestly, no idea,” she shrugged, biting her lower lip as she ruminate over his remarks. “It’s a miracle that I’ve come this far.”
“A miracle indeed,” he agreed, letting out a small chuckle.
Taking her soft hands in his, Ethan pulled her body closer, lowering down his head to pepper her with thousands of kisses. With each and every kiss, all the air rushed out of his lungs—leaving him dazed and breathless, in the best ways possible.
He could never get enough of moments like these, how small it may be, as long as he was together with Marchia.
After another sip of her lips, he continued with, “You want to know why the printer doesn’t work?”
“Enlighten me, please.”
“It’s simply because...” he quickly grabbed the thin line behind her. “This.”
Upon closer inspection, it looks like one of the greatest doctors of her generation had forgot to actually plug the cable to the machinery. If this silly occurrence were to happen to anyone, certainly Marchia would be the right candidate for it.
Smiling sheepishly, she replied, “Could you please plug it in, then?”
“Your wish is my command, sayang.”
Connecting the wire between those two devices, Ethan slowly guided her to print her things, all while avoiding to repeat the same mistakes. As the printer whirred—indicating that she was successful this time around—he realized that did not know what she printed in the first place.
“Ta-da!” she squealed, presenting him with the glossy photo paper.
Tumblr media
“I wanted to put this up on my desk,” she spoke confidently. “So I could show it to everyone that comes into my office.”
“Hrm,” he raised his brows, arms slipping to her waist, roguish smirk spread wide. “A little bit possessive, are we?”
“What can I say?” she returned with her own playful grin. “I can’t get enough of you.”

Runny Nose (Ethan x MC)
Book: Open Heart, Book 1 Pairing: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x Dr. Marchia Bisognin (F!MC) Premise: She caught a cold at the most inconvenient time. Rating / Category: General / Fluff, Pining Warning(s): Discussion of light illness Word Count: 748 words
Prompt: 29. “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.”
A/N: I currently have a busy schedule, so please bear with me as I (slowly) try to complete all of the requests! As always, special thanks to the anon that sent in this prompt. I love me some pining between my two dorks lol
Tumblr media
“Haaa-choo!”
A sudden, forceful burst of air rushed through her nose and mouth for what seemed to be the hundredth time today. The sharp sound reverberated through Edenbrook’s deserted intern lounge, bouncing of its wall, reminding Marchia once again that no one wanted to be in close vicinity with her.
And, no, it was not because they hate her—it was because she had turned into a literal walking Petri dish, collecting germs left and right.
Lush viridescent jungle within her eyes, usually twinkling with life, had been replaced by a dozy haze that threatened to knock her out at any moment. Her runny red snout itched with a burning, agonizing sensation. Thousands of heavy machinery wreaked havoc inside her head, hammering against her skull, thoroughly persistent in making her life a living hell.
Despite every horrible feeling that was coursing through her veins, attacking her immune system and causing her to feel even worse, Marchia had refused to acknowledge the hard truth: she was indeed sick.
She had always thought that there was no time to catch a cold or feel indisposed as an intern. Long hours at the hospital, studying for the intern exam, finishing mountains of paperwork—being sick was not, and never will be, in her agenda of being an intern. She would rather spend her valuable twenty four hours per day on something else, thank you very much.
Thus, her only option right now was to power through this slight inconvenience and continue working on her patient charts. A flimsy plan, really, but it seemed to be working quite pleasantly well—
“Haaa-chooo!”
Or not.
Shoulders deflating, she reached inside her bag to grab another pack of tissues. Her tired soul had already traveled to her abode—vividly imagining that sweet, tempting bed that has been calling her the moment she left.
“Haaaa—” she inhaled, giving in to the tingling sensation. “Chooo!”
This time around, there was someone replying to her tiresome sneezes.
“Go home, Rookie.”
His soft, soothing voice—unlike the usual one he would normally use as Doctor Terminator—was not something that she could miss.
“I still have my charts to—”
“Go,” he reiterated, feet shuffling closer to where she sat. “Home.”
“Only a few more,” she retorted, unwilling to be defeated by this silly disease. “I can finish my charts, do a little bit of lab work, then I could go—”
“Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.”
His frank words landed with a heavy thud.
Ever since she moved to Boston, all alone, there was no one to look out for her—not that she personally asked anyone to do it anyway. She would offer her warmth and attention to her rather new, yet close friends here, but that does not mean that she would expect each and every one of them to return her kindness.
But somehow, being on the receiving end of Ethan’s unexpected tenderness, prompted an adorable blush that grew brighter on her cheeks with each passing second.
Without realizing it, he had stood right in front of her, holding a brown paper bag that was clutched tightly to his side.
“Here,” he offered the small bag, unknowingly putting his most heartfelt smile on display, only for her to see. “Your medicine, prescribed for three days. You’ll have the day off tomorrow, so please rest.”
She paused a beat to fully understand what was happening.
His hand met hers, warm and gentle, lingering longer than it should. They reveled in the small comfort of being able to touch one another, to feel their skin triumphantly unite. Their gaze locked, and for a fraction of a moment, her stomach was in knots and he was the only person that mattered in this whole world.
Blinking out of her daze, she replied, “Thank you.”
Ethan gave her a brief nod, schooling his features back to his default stoic expression as he turned around to walk out. How she wished that he could be the one taking her home instead, taking care of her, showering her with all the love she could get.
Yet he was only her attending, and she was only his intern.
Suddenly, he paused mid-step.
“Doctor Bisognin,” he murmured, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck. He looked genuinely concerned, as though he was afraid of something. “Take care of yourself, okay?”
Inside her torso, there was an explosion of traitorous butterflies.
“I will, Doctor Ramsey.”

Pretty Please (Ethan x MC)
Book: Open Heart Pairing: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x Dr. Marchia Bisognin (F!MC) Premise: They took a picture at the happiest place on earth. Rating / Category: General / Fluff Warning(s): None Word Count: 332 words
Prompt: 112. “I’ve never seen anyone look so cute and ridiculous at the same time.” from 150 random writing prompts
A/N: A super short one, but there’s a little ✨surprise✨ at the end of this fic. Thank you to the anon that sent this prompt! 🥺
Tumblr media
“We have to take a picture!” she explained, pleading with her puppy eyes. “Please? Pretty please? For me?”
Hours after being surrounded by children’s giggles, overly sweet desserts, and the thrill of riding every roller coaster in this god-forsaken crowded theme park, it was hard for Ethan to say no to his girlfriend. The euphoric, joyful thrill of being inside the happiest place on earth—as Marchia would describe it—has clearly rubbed off on him.
“Okay, my love,” Ethan returned with a chuckle, then soon his face was painted with a delightful smile. “One picture.”
“With the ears!”
This time, it was his adoring blue orbs that stared right into her emeralds.
Slowly blinking her eyes, the blonde doctor released her coy smile and continued with her ultimate bait, “Please, sayang?”
“Fine,” he murmured, though he did not need much persuading to begin with—she always had this effect on him.
Bouncing in delight, Marchia grabbed the Mickey Mouse ears she had bought earlier on Main Street and gently positioned it on his head. For once in her life, she did not thought that it was possible to see the sight of her hero, her partner, her true love—a world renowned diagnostician, no less—wearing a headband of a fictional rodent ears.
“I’ve never seen anyone look so cute and ridiculous at the same time.”
“Only for you, sayang,” he responded, kissing her delicate cheek.
After making sure that they were ready for a quick snapshot—which includes having her doughnut back in her hand—Marchia approached a nearby staff to ask her help. She was more than delighted to assist, and even more delighted to see the young couple smiling as wide as they could.
As Ethan pulled her closer, the park staff counted down from three and shouted, “Say cheese!”
None of them said cheese.
But the picture turned out to be more than they could ever imagine, swiftly stealing their hearts and became one of their favorites.

Mistakes (Tobias x OC)
Book: Open Heart Pairing: Dr. Tobias Carrick x Dr. Nyla Hassan (F!OC) Premise: He wanted to start over, but she wanted no such thing. Rating / Category: Teen / Angst; Slow Burn Warning(s): Strong language Word Count: 1,168 words
A/N: Life has once again punched me in the face, but I’m so happy to be back here, writing for my babies. Will catch up with everything super duper soon. In the meantime, please enjoy this!
Tumblr media
It was a terrifically normal day at the hospital for Tobias Carrick.
He checked in on all of his patients, signed their charts, ran some tests, continued research on their latest case, and went out to Derry’s Roasters with Ethan during lunch break because that was the only place that he could drag his best friend without him complaining.
A perfectly, utterly normal working day.
Except for the small, minor, teeny-tiny fact that he has not been able to stop thinking about Nyla since their first meeting.
Perhaps it was the way she caught his attention, reeling him into the depths of her warm caramel irises. Perhaps it was the way that they touched; her soft hand meeting his own, firm yet delicate at the same time. Perhaps it was the way she spoke to him, her feathery light voice effortlessly putting a hazy spell on him.
Or perhaps it was the way that she crushed his ego and undermined his ability as a doctor and a leader to his old team in just a few sentences.
Christ, this was pathetic.
Even for him.
Releasing a weighted sigh, Tobias shut down his laptop and closed his navy blue notebook. Her exact words, undoubtedly stitched with anger and disappointment, echoed inside his tangled thoughts. Shoulders slouching forward, he took a moment to close his eyes—savoring every last drop of tranquility within these four walls that he could get.
Still, he could not get her voice out of his head.
Her gentle voice, her airy voice. Brittle, as cold as the first ice of winter. Ringing in the distance, haunting him—or, more accurately, taunting him. There was a hint of calmness in her tone, a collective tune of harmonious silver bells that lullabied him to a state of serenity. The sound eerily came closer, and closer.
And closer.
Closer.
Shit.
She’s here, isn’t she?
His eyelids slowly opened themselves, partially afraid of the ghost that had been lingering in his mind might make her appearance. There was no use in it, though, because she was already there, only meters away. Outside of the Diagnostics Team’s office, breathtaking in every possible way.
The sparkle in her hazel eyes brought light and ease into his heart. Her rosy cheeks glowed, enthusiastically responding to her conversation with Edenbrook’s own sunshine, Marchia. Each step led them closer to the glass entrance—and before he could anticipate it—they entered the room.
Tobias shifted his sight to the papers in front of him, hoping that Nyla did not saw him gaping like a goldfish.
“Okay, I have a short meeting in five minutes. You stay here, and we’ll continue after this,” the blonde announced, giving her friend a quick embrace.
Marchia’s heels clacked across the floor, and within seconds, there was only two of them. Left behind in a quiet, atrociously deafening silence. A silence that grew bigger, thicker, as moments passed by.
Maybe this was his chance to redeem himself in front of her.
“So, welcome to our humble abode.”
There was a slight pause before she could reply. Nyla stood in front of their sofa, arms clutching tightly above her chest, looking in his direction. The subtle white jumpsuit that embraced every dip and curve on her figure made it almost impossible to focus on anything else than her absolute beauty, magnificent in all of its glory.
“Not so humble, I would say, considering that it’s owned by Leland and he always try to show it off in every occasion he could get.”
“Hrm,” he lightly scoffed, agreeing with her keen observation. “I guess that’s true.”
An awkward silence had once again taken their conversation hostage.
Tobias rose to his feet, leaving the comfortable chair, and slowly walked closer—much to her surprise. He fought long and hard to formulate the exact right words, the perfect expression to express his feelings, in order to reset all of this mess.
He knew he had to take a leap.
“Look, Nyla, I think we got off on the wrong foot,” he murmured, locking eyes with her. “Sure, I wasn’t the best and I made some mistakes—”
“Whoa, whoa. Hold on. You weren’t being,” Nyla paused for a beat, then raised both of her hands, motioning air quotes as she continued with, “‘The best’?”
His dark brown brows pulled together at the questionable gesture.
For a room that was only filled with two people, the air felt entirely thick and suffocating. He found himself drowning, struggling to get a sentence out of his mouth.
“You abandoned your team, Carrick. You left them when they need you the most. Edenbrook wasn’t the only hospital that had been shook to the core with the whole shift and merger. MK got their hit too, or did you forgot about that?”
“I didn’t forget about that. But—”
“Not to mention your whole childish competition with Doctor Ramsey. And for what? It almost cost us a great doctor. A wonderful friend of mine.”
Tension soared as she mentioned the tragic incident that latched within these great halls. What happened was horrible, devastating—not a day goes by without Tobias feeling guilty and wishing he had done things differently back then.
“I’m sorry, I really am, but it wasn’t entirely my fault,” he sighed.
“Oh, please,” she rolled her eyes, lips curled up in disdain. “Just like how we failed to be in the top ten rankings wasn’t your fault too.”
Anger boiled inside his veins as he digested the true meaning of her words. He was no Ethan Ramsey, nor was he the Leonardo da Vinci of medicine—he was certain about that. But he had more than ten years of experience under his belt, dozens of unique and unthinkable cases, and even synthesized a goddamn cure for a lethal bio-toxin.
Surely he deserved some respect.
“You come in here like you’re some saint, Doctor Hassan. Apparently being a mediocre attending at Mayo Clinic does that to you, huh?” he snickered, harshness palpable in his voice.
Nyla snorted. “Watch where you’re going with this, Carrick.”
“Judge all you want, but you know nothing about me. You know nothing about the vicious medical industry. Nothing. You’re just some new kid on the block. Get some real experiences out there, and then we’ll talk, kiddo.”
Her orbs burned with fire he had never seen before in his life. She inched closer, tilting her head upwards, their breaths interwove in the small space between them. Emotions rumbled inside their chests, waiting to explode at any moment.
Biting her tongue, she replied, “Underestimate me again and we’ll see how well that goes for you.”
“Can’t wait,” Tobias whispered, hot air brushing the shell of her ear.
Fuming with vexation, the young doctor turned her body and headed straight for the door. A melody of heavy thump that accompanied every step she took became music to his ears—a clear sign that he had won this battle. Wearing a complacent expression, he relished in the victorious feeling.
If she wanted war, then she had come to the right place.
Because Tobias was certainly not giving up without a fight.

Reflection (Ethan x MC)
Book: Open Heart Pairing: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x Dr. Marchia Ramsey (F!MC) Premise: She currently doesn’t feel like herself. Rating / Category: Teen / Fluff; Hurt-Comfort Warning(s): Discussion of body image Word Count: 762 words
A/N: I can’t seem to stop writing fluff lol halp
Tumblr media
“Love?”
Ethan called out his wife from the living room—well dressed in his white shirt and brown chinos—yet uncertain of what was taking her so long. Ever the punctual herself, he knew that she would not deliberately make themselves late, especially to their own party.
They were supposed to be on their way to Alan’s house by now, attending the private baby shower that Sienna had meticulously organized for weeks. Of course, Marchia was more than happy to have one of her best friends coordinate this little festivity. Their only request was to keep the event intimate, just like their wedding, and avoid inviting unnecessary guests.
Not wanting to waste more time, he allowed his feet slowly shuffle to the front door of their bedroom. A silky, smooth collusion of crimson red and orange covered the white marble tiles, accompanying each and every step that he took to his destination. Then carefully, he entered the master bedroom.
When he arrived, he surely was expecting her to be all set and ready to go. To his surprise, Ethan was welcomed with the exquisite view of Marchia wearing only her favorite maternity bra and, he quoted, ‘granny’ panties. She stood idly in front of their full-length oak mirror—staring into her swollen belly.
“Hey,” Ethan muttered as he came up behind her. “Is there something wrong? Do you need help? We can cancel—”
Before he could finish, the soon-to-be mother interjected with her stern voice, “I look like a giant penguin.”
The older doctor lifted one eyebrow. “I beg your pardon?”
“Me!” she squeaked, turning her entire body—who was already twice her normal size—to face him. “I look like an elephant. A balloon. A hippo!”
Sighing theatrically, she twirled around again; her protruding abdomen merely inches away from her reflection. This time, she frowned critically at herself—an expression so rarely displayed to the general public.
“I’m too ugly to go outside.”
The sentence was far from the truth. To him, she always looked stunning, irresistible—especially now, at eight months pregnant.
“Nonsense, my love.”
“It’s true!”
He stared at her for several quiet beats.
It was certainly disheartening for Ethan to see his wife, the woman that exceeded all of his dreams, his Aphrodite, to be doubting herself, her divine beauty. If he could physically punch those rabid pregnancy hormones that was causing havoc inside her, he would. He would do it without any hesitation—anything to protect and keep her safe, even from her own thoughts.
“Marchia,” he spoke, voice as soft as a hummingbird. Ethan placed his gentle hands on her clavicle, caressing her skin tenderly. “Remember what we talked about last week?”
Her shoulder sank into the ground. “I know.”
“There are days that you would feel great, and there are days that you won’t feel like that. It’s alright, love. What can I do to make you feel better?”
Marchia moved her gaze from the reflecting surface that stood in front of her, turning her small physique to meet his eye once more.
“Can I have a hug, please?”
His ocean blue eyes lit with joy, and without further instructions, his arms ardently made their way to her waist, pulling her closer. Filling the space between them, Marchia rested her head on his broad chest; comfort cascading over every inch of her skin, making her light in his embrace.
After a few minutes in the comfortable silence, he loosened up his hands and raptly studies the delicate features of his spouse. Her orbs pressed into him as she let out another contemplative exhale.
“I have so many stretch marks now,” she whispered quietly to him.
“And they look beautiful on you, sayang.”
The words he uttered send a profound warmth through her entire being. Her luscious green eyes were gleaming with her usual confidence—the same one that would turn his world upside down. Head tilted downwards, his lips found its way to plant a kiss on her forehead.
“Ready to go now?”
She shot him an exaggerated thoughtful look.
“Only if you buy me some ice cream on the way there.”
Ethan playfully rolled his eyes and she giggled at his reaction. The expectant mother kissed him through her laughter, infectious enough that he could not help but chuckle along with her too.
“I didn’t realize I married a toddler.”
“I’ll have you know that I’m five-year-old, thank you very much. So I’m most definitely not a toddler anymore.”
As mischief flooded his striking blue orbs, he simply replied to his wife, “Jury’s still out on that matter, love.”
