Prime Minister to launch priority section of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor
Tumblr media
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a groundbreaking chapter in India's transportation history as he unveils the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Corridor. The inaugural ceremony will take place at Sahibabad RapidX Station in Uttar Pradesh on October 20, 2023. During this momentous occasion, the Prime Minister will also ceremoniously flag off the RapidX train, connecting Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, symbolising the official launch of India's first-ever RRTS. Following this, at around 12 Noon, Modi will address a public gathering in Sahibabad, marking a pivotal moment in the nation's transportation infrastructure. The 17-kilometer priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor, set for inauguration, will seamlessly link Sahibabad to 'Duhai Depot,' featuring stations at Ghaziabad, Guldhar, and Duhai. Notably, the foundation stone for this transformative corridor was laid by the Prime Minister on March 8, 2019. Aligned with PM’s vision to elevate regional connectivity in India through the development of world-class transportation infrastructure, the RRTS project is shaping up as a beacon of innovation. RRTS is poised to redefine rail-based, semi-high-speed, high-frequency commuter transit systems. Boasting a design speed of 180 kilometers per hour, this initiative is designed to offer high-speed intercity commuting at intervals as short as 15 minutes, with the flexibility to increase the frequency to every 5 minutes, as needed. The National Capital Region will witness the development of eight RRTS corridors, of which three have been accorded priority status for implementation in Phase I. These corridors include the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Corridor, Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar Corridor, and Delhi-Panipat Corridor. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS, with an estimated investment exceeding Rs 30,000 crore, will render the journey from Delhi to Meerut less than an hour, passing through urban hubs like Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar. This trailblazing RRTS initiative is on par with the best global standards, offering safe, dependable, and contemporary intercity commuting solutions. As part of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, the RRTS network is designed for extensive multi-modal integration, ensuring seamless connectivity with railway stations, metro stations, bus services, and more. This visionary approach to regional mobility is poised to invigorate economic activities, enhance access to employment, education, and healthcare opportunities, while also significantly mitigating vehicular congestion and reducing air pollution. In a dual celebration of India's transportation strides, Prime Minister Modi will also formally dedicate two stretches of the Bengaluru Metro's east-west corridor. These stretches, connecting Baiyappanahalli to Krishnarajapura and Kengeri to Challaghatta, commenced public service from October 9, 2023, providing commuters with much-needed convenience ahead of their formal inauguration. NCRTC to begin Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Rapid Rail work from March 2018
Tumblr media
Ghaziabad: The officials of NCR Transport Corporation (NCRTC) on Friday held a meeting with the Ghaziabad Development Authority on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Rapid Rail Transit Corridor project and deliberated on its cost benefit analysis. The work on this 90-km corridor is expected to begin in March next year.
According to sources, six places have been earmarked in Ghaziabad district to develop stations under the transit-oriented development (TOD) within a radius of 1.5 km around each railway stations. “The six places which have been earmarked are Sahibabad, Ghaziabad city, Guldhar, Duhai, Muradnagar and Modinagar. The remaining eight stations will come up in Delhi and Meerut,” said GDA vice-chairperson Kanchan Verma. “The work on this section will begin in March 2018. The cost of the project has been pegged around Rs 32,000 crore, out of which UP goverment will have to shell out nearly Rs 4,500 crore in ten years. The completion year has been set for 2024,” said Verma.
“The NCRTC intends to recover the project cost through various means by 2054. Friday’s meeting was held to discuss these finer points,” said Verma. “Five heads have been identified through which the project cost will be recovered and these include stamp duty, external development charge (EDC), floor area ratio, purchasable floor area ratio and developing the 1.5 km radius into a commercial hub,” said Verma. “We have made available to them a 10-year data of stamp duty and FAR of the area in and around six proposed rapid rail stations,” added Verma.
The project, which will begin work from March next year, will reduce the travel time from Delhi to Meerut via Ghaziabad by an hour with rapid trains running at an average speed of 100-km/hr against a Metro train whose average speed is around 30-km/hr.
The project, conceived more than 10 years ago, is a segment of a larger plan to connect important towns in the NCR region with Delhi through a high speed-based commuter transit system.
NCRTC is a joint venture of the Union government, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and is executing the prioritized three RRTS corridors — Delhi-Alwar, Delhi-Meerut and Delhi-Panipat.
Eight such corridors have been identified under the Integrated Transportation Plan 2032 prepared by the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB).
The other RRTS corridors are — Delhi-Baraut, Delhi-Hapur, Delhi-Khurja, Delhi-Palwal and Delhi-Rohtak.
