Since my “Missing MLN” hours are still ongoing, there is something that I realized now that a few days have passed since the finale- I was never nervous. It’s been around 4 years since I started my kdrama journey and I have come to realize that there are 3 types of endings in kdramas: one where the entire finale was not needed as it served as a filler episode; most kdramas follow this plot where the main couple could have avoided all the drama in ep 14/15 if they just talked to each other. The second is one where the entire story is ruined by the finale. It usually happens when the writer has a specific way that they wanted the story to end and they didn’t take into account the characters and their arcs (2521, I’m looking at you) and then there is a third one- this one is pretty rare and I have only seen a handful of dramas where I am satisfied with the ending since all the plotlines are tied up nicely since the characters and their arcs are kept in mind while writing the script. While some kdramas do overlap, most of them stick to just one category.
For me, MLN has become the drama that falls in the third category. Even while I was waiting for the finale to be released, I was more excited to know how the stories of these characters that came to mean so much to me would play out and I was not disappointed. While I do detest open endings, especially when it would have been much better for the story if they had provided a specific ending, I loved the openness of mln’s finale. For me, it said that there is no end to learning, to growing as a human being. All of us are here trying our best, so how can we tell someone how to live? That specific sentiment filled me with so much happiness. The drama did a brilliant job in telling me even if I feel that I have reached rock bottom, it’s alright as long as I hold on because I am not the only one who feels that way. The sense of companionship that mln provided, the way it told me “I am here and I see you” gave me a sense of comfort that I had been searching for.

Can I Purr-ease Have Your Number?
Tumblr media
Genre: Fluff as well. I’m made of fluff.
Characters: Im Jaebum x Reader; Nora, Kunta, and Odd (Jaebum’s cats), Kim Yugyeom, and Bambam.
Warning/s: None.
Summary: When Jaebum began looking for his missing cat, he didn’t expect to find something more.
A/N: I rarely get requests, so I tried my best in this one! I hope you like this! I’m sorry if it’s not as long as you hoped. :(
Tumblr media
“Guys, I’m taking the cats out!” Jaebum announces suddenly during a sunny Sunday, and the maknaes, while busy trying to beat each other’s as in Call of Duty, wave the leader’s words off. Jaebum pulls the leashes of Nora, Kunta, and Odd, and the three felines follow obediently.
He wears his face mask to conceal himself to the public, just in case some people mob him, and he worries about the comfort of his pets. Even though the pets of the group must have its own established fandom, it is better to make sure.
Jaebum walks around the street of Cheongdam-dong, and he basks in the fresh spring breeze. It has been a while since he had the time to wander around and walk his cats around. He missed Nora, that’s no secret, and with the addition of Kunta and Odd, he finds his free days more appealing than before.
“It’s a nice day, right, kids?” He keeps his habit of talking to his cats as he lets them lead the way to wherever they want to head.
Until he realizes that a certain white-furred kitten is missing from his leash that has turned loose.
“Odd?” He nervously checks, but only the black-furred Kunta and short-trimmed Nora are walking leisurely right in front of him. “Odd!”
He looks around in haste, seeing if Odd has gone far, but to no avail. He runs, practically pulling his two cats along, that he had to bring them in his arms and carry them as he finds for the missing cat.
In the middle of Seoul during what is supposed to be a carefree Sunday, Im Jaebum is baffled to find Odd absolutely nowhere near the vicinity.
“Y/N, you have to bring this to Mr. Chung’s company within fifteen minutes or you will get fired,” Mr. Kang’s monotonous warning gets into your head, and you feel your palms getting sweaty from the anxiety settling in you.
You almost want to hurl.
“I’m on it, sir!” You hurry, carrying the stack of expanded envelopes in your short arms and running with four-inch stilettos on. You know your feet will get awful cramps once the day is over, but you can’t just give your job up for the comfort of your body.
So, you hurry to your car, hoping it will start smoothly today. These days, it had begun to collapse, and even after changing the batteries and taking it to the mechanic, it is to no avail. You just pray for it to roar to life today of all days.
Fortunately, it does.
You quickly release the hand brake and shift the gear to drive, doing your best to hurry to Chung Industries on Mapo-gu. It is not that far, but the traffic might get in the way of your trip.
“Watch out, there’s a cat!”
Or a feline pushing you to take a stop in the middle of the avenue.
You pick the purring kitten up, wondering how it got in the middle of the road. Judging from the way it has a leash, it obviously escaped, and the owner must probably be sick worried looking for it. But now, you have some documents to pass, and if you try to look for the cat’s master, you would have to say goodbye to your position as an executive assistant.
“Look, kitty, I’ll look for your owner later. Right now, I have to save my ass.” You apologize to the cat as you put him on the back seat, though you know he might not understand you. Luckily, he is behaving well, and you encounter no problem as you park your car in front of the grey building.
Thinking it is too cruel to leave him behind, you scoop the kitten in one of your arms, with the other carrying the important files, and head inside the office building.
“Ah, sir, I have to pass some papers to Mr. Chung,” you tell the lady guard. “But can you take care of the cat for a while?”
“I’m sorry, miss, but we don’t do that here.” The guard stubbornly says, with her eyebrow even raised up. Challenging her, you lean to her table, despite having no time to spare.
“Do you want me to bring him upstairs, then?” You mutter lowly. “Your boss will be furious to find out about it.”
Reevaluating her decisions, she sighed over-dramatically.
“You have five minutes or this cat will be out on the street,” and you are not that heartless, so you run all the way to the elevator, wishing for it to rev upwards. You impatiently get out, hiking the emergency stairs in order to get to the highest floor.
Exhaling, you knock on the door of Mr. Chung’s room, and his secretary lets you in with a surprised look on her face.
“Here are the files Mr. Chung needs for the magazine and catalogue project,” you explain as you hold your kneecaps, trying to catch your breath as you just finished a marathon.
“Thank you, Miss Y/N. You can leave now. Mr. Chung will surely get this.”
You finally feel relieved, because your job is completely safe despite many threats from Mr. Kang about your termination. He has always been eyeing to remove you from your job, as his daughter, Yeonah, wants the position as well. So far, though, he can’t find a leverage to fully excavate you from the company.
“He pooped,” the guard flatly complains. “I had to clean it.”
“I’m sorry about that,” you sheepishly say. “Anyway, thank you for keeping him company for a while. I’ll be leaving.”
Once you reach to your car, you take a good look at the small cat on the passenger’s seat. You pet its white fur, untangling its frizzy texture. It then leans to your hand, eyes fluttering and drooping close as he finally falls asleep.
“Aigoo, how do I even begin to look for your owner?”
You’re not sure about it as well, but you sacrifice your hour-long lunch break for the safety of the cute pet beside you.
“Look, sir, we don’t look for lost cats here, okay?” The police officer explains for what seems to be the umpteenth time to Jaebum. Yugyeom and Bambam, now with cats in their hold, have arrived to console him from unleashing his anger to the police officer who refuses to pay attention to his complaint.
“My cat might be dying out there!” Jaebum is not that much emotional, but his voice wavers as he thinks of Odd, probably somewhere alone and shivering. He had been gone for approximately an hour now, and being the hyper kitten he is, he must have gotten quite far.
“Sir, with all due respect, this is not the place to look for your lost pet,” the officer sighs, frustrated after all the round of polite explanations. “You can look for him in the local pound or post some fliers in case people find him. Right now, we can’t be looking for lost pets. There are people dying out there unjustly.”
Jaebum understands the statement, and he is pulled by the two maknaes to leave the police station.
“I’m sorry, sir? Mr. Officer?” A girl voices out suddenly, fatigue dripping from her voice. “I don’t know where else to go find for this person, but I found a white cat almost an hour ago.”
Jaebum turns around and finds you, and he views you all of a sudden as someone with a halo hovering your head and light shining beneath you, with a white cat sleeping in your arms.
“Odd!” He exclaims as he quickly grabs the kitten from you, effectively waking you up. “I’m so glad you’re okay!”
“Oh, there you go,” the officer motions to the slightly emotional reunion. “And this is not the place to report about lost pets, okay? Now if you may all leave, we have crimes to investigate.”
You didn’t honestly expect Im Jaebum to be the owner of the little feline you have found, but now, you’re incredibly feeling lucky that you decided to not use your one-hour break uselessly.
Now, Jaebum is in front of you, treating you to a nice meal on the barbecue place near your company’s building with the absence of his reunited cats, who have been brought back to the dorm by Yugyeom and Bambam. He hasn’t stopped thanking you yet and is adamant in doing everything to show his gratefulness.
And he cannot stop smiling, either. It’s one of those gummy grins he is famous for.
“Jaebum, really, it’s okay,” you convince him to stop, but he does not.
“Give me your number,” Jaebum suddenly says, and you assume that it is once again because he wants to pay you back for returning Odd to him.
“Jaebum, I already told you that it’s fine. I’d do the same if it were a hamster.” You promise him, but he shakes his head.
“No, I just want your number,” Jaebum presses.
“What? What for?”
“To know you better,” Jaebum’s confession makes your voice hitch. “Without the conversation about my pets being brought in all the time. I seriously want to know you better, Y/N-ssi.”
And who are you to deny him that?
“Can I purr-ease have your number?” He tries to activate his hidden affectionate voice, but you only cringe at it in disgust.
“I won’t give it to you if you say another awful pun.”

Caught Up Chapter 2 - Off Duty
RYU JUN YEOL’s POV
Radio: Station! Station! Requesting for back up!
The radio static echoed through his entire room as soon as he got out of the shower. He smirk upon hearing the sound of his colleague’s voice requesting for back up. It’s going to be a busy day, he thought.
He grabbed his pants and shirt, and started to get dressed while still listening to the continuous exchange of reports on the radio.
Police 1: We have a 10-31 situation here. Could be a 10-80. Please send back up!
Police 2: What is your 10-20?
Police 1: Just a few blocks past the Yong-in University. Hurry!
Police 2: Arasso! We are sending Team B right away. Keep us posted!
(10-31 is a police code for robbery, 10-20 is for location, and 10-80 means there will be a chase.)
“YONG-IN University? That’s closer to another station! These guys never learn.” He said to himself as he hurriedly put on his jacket and looked for his keys. It’s time to get to work.
Although technically, it isn’t. But he wouldn’t be the infamous Ryu Jun Yeol if he wouldn’t join in the chase.
Ryu Jun Yeol is a 30-year old senior cop based in Jangan Police Department. And he is always about one thing: doing his job. He believes that regardless of any other situation, the safety of his people will always be his priority. But he is not famous in their department for his mission accomplishments and/or other remarkable performance. He’s well-known for something else.
Doing things he was told not to do.
Including going to work when he is off duty.
Just like today.
He got into his car and started heading to Yong-in. He turned on the police radio installed in his own car to monitor the situation. It was then reported that Team B had already been dispatched to the location and when he was just 5 five minutes away, the chase for the culprit has started.
Radio: He got away. The suspect is about 5’4” tall and he’s wearing a black jacket and dark blue cap. He’s also carrying a small duffel bag.
The culprit apparently robbed the bank located few blocks away from the school. As he listened, he tried to figure out where the robber will be going. It’s what he do best.
“Hmm.. where are you headed?” He thought.
The suspect is carrying a bag so he wouldn’t be able to get away that fast. He made a turn and parked at the end of a small alley before he got of his car carrying only his precious hand cuffs.
“Making a turn on the 3rd street, you should be coming from here in 3…2…”
Before he was able to finish counting, a tall guy wearing a jacket and dark blue cap while carrying a duffel bag, got out of the small alley and ran past him.
“Yaaah! I’m not done counting!”
The suspect was a few metters away from him before he started running after him. In just a few minutes, he was able to caught up to the guy and he jump over him. He has able to easily put him down and immediately hand cuffed him.
“Not so fast, bad guy. You’ve been busy, huh?”
“Yah, let me go.”
“Aiiissssh! Shut it. Come with me!”
With a sheepish grin on his face, he drove the car on the way to the Jangan station with the culprit, letting everyone involved in the car chase that he already got him.
“See you later, boys!”
He let out a short giggle as he imagined what could be waiting for him at the station. Looks like once again, it’s not only the culprit whose pissed at him this early.
They arrived at the station within a few minutes and he carried the culprit inside the station. He was welcomed with piercing looks from his colleagues, a few smiles from the people from his team, and a grumpy look from their superior. He was able to catch the culprit, but obviously, not everyone is happy about it.
“Good morning, everyone! Yah, JoonGi-ssi, can you get me a coffee, please? Kumapta!”
He walked past by his hoobae, who gladly obliged to his request. He handed the culprit to his collegue, Baek Dong Woo. The leader of Team B. His rival.
“Baek Dong Woo-ssi, here’s your culprit.” He said cheerfully.
Baek Dong Woo ordered one of his subordinates to take the suspect before he faced him again – still with a smug face.
“Ryu Jun Yeol, what the hell do you think you’re doing?”
“Uhm, let me guess. Ahh, that’s right. My job. Wae?”
“But you are off duty and my team was called for back-up. Not you.”
“And your point is?”
“My point is, you should let those on duty to do their job. You should’ve stayed out of it.”
“Ah. So you’re point is, I should ignore the call for back up even when I am the closest available cop in the area. That I should’ve let him ran past me even if I could totally help everyone to catch him?”
“Ryu Jun—“
“You know how I am, Dong Woo-ssi. The safety of my people comes first, regardless if I am on duty or not. Now, if you are so pissed because I was able to catch the culprit before your entire team could, then get over it. Because guess what, I don’t care.”
“Yaaah!”
“Besides, the other police department was closer to the scene, why did you respond, anyway? You never learn, Baek Dong Woo.”
“Ryu Jun Yeol, you assho—“
“Watch your language, Dong Woo. I am still 3 months ahead of you.”
He gave Baek Dong Woo a pat on the shoulder before he could even finish swearing at him, then he walked past everyone else. Kang Joon Gi handed him his coffee as he walked straight to his desk.
Joon Gi followed him.
“You are so cool, Sunbae.”
He gave him a high five as he sat on his desk. He’s glad that at least the people from his own team thinks he’s cool, because everyone else doesn’t. Ryu Jun Yeol is Janga-gu Police Department’s infamous ignorant asshole. He always finishes his job, alright. But there were very few instances that he follow the rules and his colleagues believe that he lacks respect for everyone.
“Joon Gi-ah. The transfers will arrive today, right?”
“Ne, Sunbae. One of them is from Daegu and the other one will come from Gwangju. They will arrive today, probably any minute now.”
“Ah. One of them will be a part of our team in exchange for Lee Woo Jin, right? Who is it gonna be?”
“Uhm, I don’t know yet. But I heard one of them is a girl.”
“Aish. I hope we don’t get her. She’ll be a pain in the ass, I bet.”
They shared a laugh and another high five. Ryu Jun Yeol might be a burden to everyone but not to his team. He cares for them and never leaves everyone behind, as long as that person can catch up to him. That is why he hates working with a female police. He thinks that they are too slow and emotional, and that would be the last thing he needs in his line of work. He wants a subordinate that will always be up for anything – like him.
“Is that why you came here today even if you are off duty, Sunbae? You want to see the newbie?”
“Yes. I want to assess the newbie before we get back to work tomorrow. I hope he arrives soon.”
And as if the high heavens heard him, his superior walked up to both of them. Behind his superior are the newbies – one man and a woman. The latter looks awkwardly uncomfortable, though.
“Ryu Jun Yeol-ssi.”
“Ne, Chief!”
“You made quite a commotion here again today, huh?”
“Just doing my job, Chief.”
“Very well then, the transfers arrived today. If you have time, I would like to introduce them to you.”
“Sure. I am actually waiting for them to arrive.”
“Great. Here are they are.”
The newbies stood on the Chief’s left side and he’s still weirdly distracted with the girl newbie who’s wearing white sneakers, dark pants and a plaid shirt over a plain v-neck black shirt.
“This is Jun Min Goo and he is from Daegu and he’s been with Daegu Department for 5 years. And this young lady right here is Lee Hyeri from Gwangju Police Department. She is a junior.
They exchanged greetings and shook each other’s hands before the Chief continued with the introduction.
“One of them will be on  your team, Ryu Jun Yeol-ssi.”
“I understand, Chief. Welcome to our team, Jun Min – “
But Chief cut him off when he was about to face Jun Min Goo.
“Lee Hyeri, Mr. Ryu here will be your team leader. Jun Yeol-ssi, Lee Hyeri will be the new member of your team.”
He was caught off guard and didn’t know how to react.
He will have a woman on his team.
A woman. A newbie.
Oh crap.
