okay here are my thoughts on and a very loose rating of the discographies of the major idol anime franchises (disclaimer that i haven’t listened to Every Single Song of any of these series and i’m

-love live: i think...i’d be biased in saying ll has the best idol franchise discography...but i don’t think it’d be a stretch to say that they pour a LOT into their music production. i do think there’s a lot of ll stuf that sounds the same and none of the full groups have a sound that differentiates them from each other but ll’s also good at mixing up sounds and concepts, so there’s no character or unit that’s really locked into just one style. i feel like ll prioritizes catchiness and energy a lot of the time so there aren’t many songs that aren’t fun to listen to, which i definitely think is one of the most important things in idol music. there aren’t even that many bombs which you’d think would mean they play it safe but i don’t think you can talk down the variety in the discography. aki hata is also a lyric writing god and i do think it’s saying something that even 10 years into the run as a series we’re still getting songs that sound new. you can tell when they’re being lazy but that’s a pretty uncommon situation and you’d be damned to find a ll song that isn’t at least fun to listen to. favs: mermaid festa vol 2, blueberry train, angelic angel, snow halation, ps no mukougawa, shoujo ijou, doki pipo emotion

-idolm@ster: before you come at me i want you to know that i have felt this way about idolm@ster’s discography for the last 7 years and my opinion Has gotten better over time but wow. so many idolm@ster songs are so boring. i think one thing you can really say abt love live is they’ve mastered the art of making OPs and EDs and group singles that all kinda sound the same but are still fun to listen to. i think what makes im@s discography good is that they’re not afraid to really jump into weird concepts for their more out-there characters. like what other franchise is delivering to us ai like hamburger. nobody. so those more unique songs are almost always hits but a lot of the generic idol pop songs feel pretty watered down and hard to get into. they do get that right pretty often too but bc their discography has gotten so huge over the years there’s a lot of filler. favs: kyun! vampire girl, do dai, s(mile)ing, romantic now (uzuki mix)

-aikatsu: honestly? i would place aikatsu’s discography at LEAST at 2nd place. they’ve gone through a lot of changes in producers in the last few reboots but there are sooooo many consistent hits and i feel like it gets written off for being a kids series when the music is honestly so top tier. aikatsu doesn’t do big group songs all that often and each season only comes w a few one-size-fits-all generic songs so most of the discography is tailored to one or two characters in particular which makes for some amazing variety. the fact that it’s for kids even means the songs are more catchy and energetic so even the ones that are kinda dumb stick in your head. i don’t know how much i can speak for these past few seasons but you can really feel the passion that went into most of the songs. the general sounds of aikatsu are clean and bright pop and emotional pop rock and theatrical ballads and genuinely i have no clue why the music alone hasn’t made it mega popular. there are definitely duds though, especially when it comes to songs that weren’t made to be performed. favs: diamond happy, koisuru mitai na caramelize, summer tears diary, hello new world, heart skip, dramatic girl

-pretty rhythm: kinda similar to im@s in that a lot of their music is kinda boring in its early 2000s idol sound but i’d honestly argue that pririzu does that sound better. like it all sounds very nostalgic and classic and gets this quality of timelessness from that. this is probably the franchise i’ve listened to the least though so i’m not the best authority on this. favs: you may dream, cherry picking days

-pripara: pripara is definitely an acquired taste and the franchise i’d be least likely to listen to with my friends in the room but the one thing you can’t deny is that the production is so crazy tight. pripara definitely gets most of its fame for how off the walls crazy it is and since that’s such a part of its identity i can’t fault it for how many songs are similarly whole hog wild but even though i never want to hear the omurice song again in my life pripara has continuously delivered hit after hit. their generic idol songs (like make it and dream parade) are some of the best in the genre and whatever subgenre they’re pursuing they never fail to bring the energy. i do think a lot of their out of the box songs (like the ones that are made for visual-based performances that aren’t really meant to be cohesive songs) are flops but the entire first season is made of 10/10s which is so crazy. the crazy concept songs usually hit too. favs: marble makeup a ha ha, zero week old, suki suki sensor, realize

-bandori: hot take but bandori has some stinkers. i don’t know why the first few months of bandori songs had so many flops (tokimeki experience...yes bang dream...that’s how i roll...) but i do think they’ve stepped up their game since then!! i think...as time has gone by bandori has become a franchise people really care abt and with it the content has gotten better too. like holy shit. NOW you can see how much the producers are putting their hearts into the music but it definitely took a little while (not that there weren’t good songs at the start too, shuwarin dreamin is one of my absolute favorites). i think it’s really impressive how much they’re found their footing w each band’s sound, they all really feel believable as artists, and it’s blown up so clearly they’re hitting it out of the park these days. favs: hidamari rhodonite, kimi ga inakucha, shuwarin dreamin

-bonus shoutout to zombieland saga bc the production is so all over the place. when they wanna write a good song holy shit do they write a good song but sometimes you get To My Dearest. which im still sort of baffled by. could the writers not figure out how to rewrite those 20-syllable lines to sound even half singable or

Isla Paradiso 4

Since coming to the Island a few days ago Katya left just in time to be blissfully unaware of most of the fallout that came when her and taehyung went on Jessi’s Show!terviw to announce their relationship. She got a few hints at it but PSY and Draven were insistent we get to the vacation house first. And of course there was no rule about not having your phone, you could but she didn’t want to really speak to anyone or see the hate she might have been getting from dating the most popular member of BTS. Plus, the house and two computers which she could FaceTime her family. Today one of her sisters, the second oldest just behind her, wanted to speak with her and with the fight two days ago she could go with some family time. Out of everyone in funhouse with the exception of possibly Makayla, Katya was closest to her family, which consisted of three younger sisters (Marisha [18], Annika[14] and Galina[7]) and her father Viktor, and frequently spoke to them.

Katya logged into her laptop and logged into the wifi ignoring the emails and turning off the notifications of her social media and clicked the FaceTime button before clicking Marisha’s name. It rang for a few before the face of her sisters, Marisha and Annika smiling and waving at her showed on the screen. “Hi! How is it?” Marisha asked looking around trying to see behind her sister but seeing only the wall.

“Katya! Show us the house!” Annika whined.

“It is huge, and Tae says hi” Katya smiled and Taehyung waved from the corner playing where he was painting with Makayla. Katya began telling her very curious sisters about the house and all the rooms and the inhabitants who were with her at Annika’s insistence. They spoke about the house for about half an hour, Annika pointing out all the people that walked behind or next to Katya whispering Hi’s shyly until her father walked in to frame with little Galina and asked Marisha to take her younger sister to wash up while he spoke to Katya. They made small conversation while the girls went out the room. Tae walked over respectfully bowing to her father and greeting him politely.

“Good afternoon T, you look well.” Viktor always called Taehyung T, after not wanting to offend her long time boyfriend for failing to pronounce his name correctly. Honestly he could pronounce it fine it was just his nerves. Taehyung returned the sentiment before resuming his painting trying to mimic Makaylas effortless brush strokes. “❄️Yekarina, I heard you came clean about your relationship with T.” Katya nodded and her father continued with an almost worried smile. “❄️I heard Annika speaking with Marisha about it, and I worry about you. Not a lot of people are taking it as good news as we are. Have you seen it?”

“❄️I haven’t went looking, if they cannot support me then I do not want to see it.” She admitted and he nodded.

“❄️Still Yekarina, You must face it rather then ignore it, you and him can face it together. What has he said about it?”

“❄️He wants us to release a statement and we’re trying to figure out what to say.” She shrugged “❄️I knew it would be hard but this is silly. If a man or woman I admired found happiness then I would be happy for them not angry.” Her father agreed.

“❄️Still however,” he sighed and Katya knee by the look in his face it wasn’t great news. “❄️A small group of girls dropped this off with the guard in front of the house for you.” He went towards a cabinet to high for even Katya to reach and pulled out a box wrapped in blue and green like a present. Katya watched as her father opened it. He sighed pulling out a stuffed animal of a penguin, which was her funhouse animal. But this plushie was mangled, razors sticking out of its stomach and red paint placed in spots so it looked like blood. He pulled out a letter from the box and opened it so she could see it. Her eyes scanned over it and her eyes widened as she read the ‘fans’ angrily letter cursing her and her father finished with the letter spitting over his shoulder to avoid the bad luck promised in the letter, she did the same. Thats when Taehyung stopped painting and turned his head back. He knew spitting over your shoulder was a way to ward bad luck and while he knew a few sentences in Russian he could only make put a few words from their fast speech. None of which, when put together made sense to him. “❄️No matter if you make your statement now or in weeks, after your vacation you should come back here. In Korea, they are crazed and I do not trust them. Bring T too. You’ll be safer here.”

“❄️ I worry about you and the girls” Katya sighed her mind filled with all terrible things that could happen to her siblings or father. “❄️If they know I live there...”

“❄️Over here the police come” he snapped his fingers “❄️do not worry about me or your sisters. We will be safe and I will speak with them, you my little fish, please be careful.”

“❄️I will.” She assured and heard Galina’s high-pitched voice calling for her father. Viktor gave a small chuckle.

“❄️I have to go” He said and she nodded. “❄️Stay safe, Yekarina, I love you.”

“❄️I love you.” she said and they both smiled at each other as she hung up the call. Curious and worried Taehyung looked at Katya and she sighed her once cheerful demeanor gone.

“Whats wrong?” He asked turning his attention fully towards her. Makayla looked at them and put down her stuff.

“Should I leave?”

“No.” Katya shook her head as she began to tell them about what happened with the present left for her. Taehyung instantly got upset wanting to go on V-Live and yell at whoever had the gall to do that but Katya and Makayla managed to calm him down enough where he decided to ask Namjoon and Katya and Makayla could figure out a rough draft of the statement they wanted to give.

Taehyung went upstairs to Namjoon’s room where the older boy was sitting on his bed reading a thick book. “Whats wrong?” He asked watching the younger member rummage through the box he purposely kept in Namjoon room away from prying eyes.

“Remember when you asked me if I was sure” Taehyung asked finding the small velvet wrapped box at the bottom. He opened it revealing a stunning diamond nestled in a circle of slightly smaller diamonds.

“Yes? and your going to do it now?” Namjoon shot up and went to close the door not wanting the secret of Tae’s engagement plans out.

“Not now, people went to her house where her family is staying and threatened her!” He shook his head, his face getting red with anger tears. “I was planning to do it here and “ he looked at his Hyung then at the ring “and every time I look at this I can only picture it with her, what if I’m being selfish? what if changes her mind and figures im not worth that. because I know its just begun.” Namjoon sighed and went to bookmark his book preparing to have a long talk with his younger member.

I must’ve actually dozed off when I was avoiding Suga because when I woke up my phone was on the nightstand next to wrapped coconut cookies, and a note taped just above the wall. I sat up rubbing my eyes and looked at the note figuring it was something stupid from Kitty since I had fallen asleep in her bed. Instead the note said ‘Hey sleepy head, I got you you're favorite cookies, come down when you're awake. ~ CK’ I smiled at the note, gathering the cookies and heading downstairs.

“Look at that our little maknae!” Wonho pressed his finger into the maknae’s dimpled cheek. “I’m so happy for you.”

“Thank you.” Changkyun smiled shyly pretending to watch Jooheon and Minhyuk play pool. He didn’t know why he was getting so shy speaking about his relationship with me to the boys. Of course after every date he spoke to them about it keeping of course, a few things to himself but now it was different and he wasn’t sure why. Maybe because it looked like things were getting more serious? He hoped so, he felt himself wanting to be fully immersed in love despite his inner demons that told him he didn’t deserve all that. But even they silence when he was around me.

“Kyun,” Jooheon called out to the maknae “can I ask you something?” The younger boy nodded. “Do you feel... weird about her ex’s being here? some of them are still in love with her.” Jooheon didn’t mean this question as malicious in fact he wasn’t even talking about me. It was his way of asking about himself without actually coming out and saying that he was feeling that way about you.

Changkyun thought for a moment but before he could speak, Wonho spoke up. “Listen Kyun, fight for love because they don’t own her heart anymore.” Jooheon sucked in a breath and shrugged.

“Its easy for you to say in your position” Jooheon gave a laugh that hid its true meaning. “I mean girls go head over heels for you.”

Minhyuk shrugs. “Girls are strange though, I mean Kay left Korea promoted with Damien but came back because of Kyun.” Changkyun smiled at his friend.

“Exactly,” Wonho smiled hyping up his younger member and he looked at Jooheon. “When there is feelings strong enough, love will find away, regardless of past or present relationships and the other partner has to understand they can’t do anything to stop it.”

”That sounds odd coming from you” Minhyuk laughed “You're as jealous as the next man.”

Wonho laughed and shrugged “Its a hard pill but its true, doesn’t mean the partner will like it but soon everyone moves on. Which is why I'm saying” he turned back to Changkyun “You don’t have to be intimated by anyone else here. She obviously wants you so keep reaching for love.”

Changkyun smiled and nodded “Thank you for the pep talk but I'm not really worried, I mean besides Damien, bobby and Liam no one has done or said anything.”

“And don’t listen to those assholes anyway.” I said coming into the room, each boy offering me a smile as I came in. Changkyun looked at me, feeling his breath catch in his throat and fell speechless. Even with slightly messy hair and makeup smudged from sleep he looked at me as though I was some divine secret meant to be admired and revered. He knew he felt the words ‘I love you’ ready to leave his lips but he knew it was too soon and the last time he said that to a girl, she booked it out of there faster then he knew it. So he greeted me with a smile getting up to hug me ignoring the teases of his hyungs.

“Thank you for my cookies, Kyunnie.” i smiled at him wrapping my arms around his neck and pulling him in for a kiss which he happily sunk into. Maybe this time he could relax himself in love again. May be he didn’t have to be afraid of his own feelings anymore.

DEAR 2016-2017 1/1 Concert Report

Hi this is @humming-yay translator of ryoosukeyamada fansub and I was fortunate enough to go to the DEAR 2016-2017 Tokyo Dome concert on the 1st on Jan the 12:00 afternoon one (it was my first time attending a Johnny’s concert!) :)

I’ll start off with buying the goods, I arrived in Tokyo 31st of December around 3pm and I planned to go to Tokyo Dome to buy the goods on the 31st around 7pm to just buy the goods so I don’t have to go there really early on the day of the concert and worry if I can line up and buy the goods on time before the concert. And also to scope the place out to figure out a meeting place with my friend. If you’ve been checking twitter you know how ridiculous the lines were that day it was like 8 hours long during the morning and midday. So I felt really unsure if I was able to buy them that day. I got to Tokyo Dome and there were many JE fans (Because of the countdown concert) There was a guy pointing out the end of the line so I went there and ended up only lining up for 30mins! (but the group poster was sold out) It was because it was during the DEAR concert so there weren’t as many people! So a tip is to line up for goods during the concert the day before :D After the DEAR concert ended (around 7:40) heaps of people came out of the dome and the line was super long again.

Also this was my first time going to a Johnny’s concert so I had no idea how the system worked to buy the goods. The staff were saying on their megaphones that it was divided into 3 sections. I was like what 3 sections??? Do you get your goods in one line and pay in the other?? I just started lining up and asked the girl in front of me who was holding some uchiwa’s ‘can you buy the goods here?’ (In Japanese ofc) She’s like ‘Yes, yes you can buy the goods here’ But by the tone of the voice she was making fun of me :( Afterwards I found out after asking mulitple staff that the goods were divided into 3 sections depending on the items, one section sold some of the DEAR goods, one section just sold the charater key rings and photos and one section sold the count down uchiwas. Obviously that girl knew about this since she was holding the uchiwa’s but didn’t bother telling me T.T

My friend (who’s been a JUMP fan for a long time and have attended a concert before) also said that Japanese JE fans have a bad vibe and I do agree :l When I went to Harajuku after the concert there were heaps of JUMP fans who also went to the concert and I overheard one say ‘Hey that’s the tobiko that pushed me at the concert’ Yeah idk why they’re so mean to each other D: (I’m just glad the international fandom is different)

Anyway the day of the concert came and I met up with my friend at McDonalds at 10:30 we chatted, made our way to the dome, took photos put the DEAR tattoos on and lined up to go in. The concert starts at 12:00 but you can go in from 10:00, we went in at like 11:40. Our seats were in the middle section of the stands. The concert started a bit after 12:00. The opening video went on and fans screamed when their bias was on, and then JUMP appeared on the main stage starting off singing ‘Masquerade’

In sugirusetsunasa the water works looked amazing and Inochan had his white hood up and looked so cute. Ganbaretsugo was one of the best parts of the concert because of their bunny costume!!!! It’s my favourite costume out of all JUMP costume’s so I’m so glad to be able to see it again and live!! And also they were holding bazookas, during the concert I had no idea what came out of them but I checked twitter later and they were little bunny plushies with their signtures on them!!

We are otokonoko was great too I love the song and they each had tamborines tapping each other on their butt and stuff, it was really cute. Konya anata wo kudokimasu was really funny, the animation playing on the main stage was really tacky and funny (like a women turning into a sponge etc) and Ino-chan hugged himself in the part were he sings ‘Dakishimeru~’ For Maji Sunshine they were on the trolleys going around the dome with gold sparkly confetti coming down and every one in the audience was dancing. Also there was a part were Yuto was holding a selfie-cam and all the JUMP members were in the shot and it looked really cute >< Near the end Takaki sang impersonating Kimpachi sensei and then Dai-chan got forced to sing while impersonating him by the members and failed miserably. He felt embarrassed and posed at the end showing his fist with the DEAR tattoo on it and the camera took a close-up of him on the main screen.

Personally the really best part of the concert was the MC!! I was so surprised how good JUMP was talking in real life the conversation went on so smoothly and it was hilarious, it felt like I was watching one of their TV shows but better! They were teasing Hikaru about his dumbness, he coundn’t say the 9x9 timetable Yabu asked what’s 7x8 he answered 52 (not sure of exact numbers but something along those lines). He blamed School Kakumei for revealing his dumbness. Also there was a big yabuhika moment where they got into a fight and hika went to resolve it by going to kiss yabu but yabu rejected. Also yabu said he only slept for 2 hours and when he woke up his face was really bloated looking like Anpanman. Hika said during Fantastic Time in the part were Yabuhika crouch down on their knees Hika laughed so hard because Yabu’s face looked so different.

And then Chinen cutely suggested that if we all sucked in our breath at the same time facing upwards we might deflate the ceiling of the Tokyo dome and it might fall. And then dai-chan said ‘if it does fall please protect yourselves with ur uchiwa’ and Yabu was like ‘No we’ll go and protect them’ and the whole dome was like ‘Fuu~~’. The members were like wow Yabu you’ve changed this year and Dai-chan said, ‘Did you change to a new face?’ （え、顔変えたのかな？）following on from the Anpanman joke >< We sucked in our breath on the count of 3 2 1 and obviously nothing happened as they quickly pointed out. Then they went on to promote their upcoming movies. Dai-chan talked about ‘Kodomo Tsukai’ and Yuto talked about ‘BokuGoha’ and Yama talked about ‘HagaRen’. He said the poster was released on that day in the morning and he asked the audience who’s seen it already and a lot of people put their hand up (including me :)) The other members haven’t seen the posters yet so they asked Yama to recreate it and Yama made a weird-serious face and the others were like what?? He’s like I’m just standing and there’s my brother who’s really big behind me. Then Yuto went behind Yama to be Al from the movie and Yama ducked to his knees to become really small >< Chinen promoted his movie ‘Shinobi no kuni’ and it was Inoo’s turn to promote his and Hika was like ‘Momo onna’ (peach girl in Japanese) and Inoo was like yes peach girl. He says he gets really embarrassed remembering the filming and all the kyun kyun stuff he did and Hika was like ‘yeah I wore really long hair and my heart was skipping’ Then everyone realised he was talking about cross-dressing as Yamamoto Mizuki and Hika was like ‘I’m actually dressed up as a boy now’ Then Yuto said ‘You got addicted to it (dressing up as Yamamoto Mizuki) after Itajyan’ They also talked about the count down concert and Keito singing with his Dad, they were like you copied your Dad with tying you hair up or your dad copied you :P

The MC ended and they went back to singing starting off with ‘My Girl’, Ariyama’s dancing and singing was beautiful. For ChikuTaku it started off with the spotlight on Inoo and he played a beautiful piano solo and then the spotlight went to Yama and he sang his solo beautifully then to Yabu. Then all the lights came on and the whole JUMP band joined and played. For ‘Your Seed’ the JUMP band also played and it was a new rock version and Dai-chan was rapping and it sounded so unfamiliar to the original song I had no idea what he was saying but apparently when I checked twitter it’s completely new (not 100% sure on this info) There was fire blasting during the song and you could really feel the heat from it even from the seats! For Mr Flawless they came on the trolleys and were saying ‘who will it be tonight?’ I had no idea what they were talking about and then Yabu was like STOP and they went off their trolleys and they each gave a bouquet of roses to a fan. One of the fans had a uchiwa that said Dear Yabu… something something (didn’t have time to read it all but it was some message to him) and yabu gave the bouqet to her. Yuto gave it to a girl holding his uchiwa and Takaki threw it backwards to the audience wedding style. (The girls were really vicious in fighting and getting the bouquet). During school girl the members linked hands to make a circle except for Yama who was in the middle and covered his eyed with his hands. The members skipped around him in time with the song and Yama had to guess at the end who was behind him. He said ‘Yabu!’ but it was actually Yuto behind him J Yama covering his eyes looked really cute and the other members happily going around in circles looked really cute too >< They ended the concert with DEAR and afterwards Yama leaded saying their thank you’s and that JUMP’s New Year’s Resolution will be to become very close to thier fans. (Pls do esp for us int fans ><) Hika yelled at the end 9x9 is 81! The members were like wow you remembered one thing right. :P

After they went back backstage the fans calling for an encore started. This was a real struggle. Half the people were saying Jump! Jump! And the other half were saying Encore! Encore! My friend and I really didn’t know which one to say and it was a mess but Jump quickly came back on again on the trolley with thier con t-shirts and sang Baby I Love You. Afterwards in Aisureba Motto the part were they sing ‘Gyu gyu gyu~’ Dai-chan was squeezing Ino-chan’s butt :P Also they threw sign balls during the encore. At the part were Yama asks for thier name and the audience says Hey! Say! JUMP the sparkly concert tape came out and everyone reached out thier hands to grab them, unfortunately if your at the back you can’t get them. The front bit of my section were able to get tape but I didn’t get any bc I was in the middle ^^; But after I went out of the dome I saw two fans holding out signs that said ‘Please share some tape’ So if your really desperate to get some prepare a sign or bring a notebook to write ‘銀テープください’ (please give me sparkly tape)

Overall thoughts:

- JUMP in real life was exactly the same as they seem on TV :)

- the concert was different from what I expected, it was during the day so the dome was really bright since the ceiling has holes and the scenery was not what I was used to seeing in DVDs since it wasn’t dark. (I thought there would be some way to make it dark but apparently not lol JUMP talked about it during the MC).

- They’re member ai is so strong and they’re so cute, from a far they looked like girls!

- The concert feels like a dream I can’t believe I got to see them in real life and realise that they’re actually real and human!

- The concert was really fun I want to say thank you so much to Hey! Say! JUMP for the great time and the hard effort they put in.

I saw a lot of fans have these colourful clear bags (you can buy these from WEGO) and put thier bias’s shop photos, pictures of members with snapchat/snow filters and other little pieces relating to the member :) I thought was a really cute and smart idea :D Also heaps of fans had cute ribbons in thier hair and the colour of the ribbon corresponding to thier bias :)

One final tip is that there is a certain size limit for uchiwas! it has to be less than 28.5 x 29.5 cm, there is a size fitting thing at the ticket place to check if your uchiwa isnt too big. Also this is not an offical rule but around je fans it’s accepted that you can’t use holo paper/sticker on your ucihwa, apparently they reflect really strongly on other people (namely the idols) eyes.
