Thank you to @thescrapwitch for tagging me to share a WIP snippet! Here's a snippet from the next chapter of The Harrowing, in the hopes that sharing will help me get out of my own head about it...
Celebrimbor can’t. He can’t. He can’t, and he doesn’t; his body carries him away without any thought at all, into the hallway, and it’s only when his hand is on a doorknob that he realizes where he’s going. His feet have taken him to the stairs that lead down to his grandmother’s workshop. He stands there for a long moment, staring at the door. Celebrimbor’s grandmother swore no oaths and stole no ships. Her hands have never taken a life; they are shaped by millennia of craftsmanship that started no wars and destroyed no lives. She lives in a world completely apart from the world Celebrimbor knows, and when he first returned to life he was afraid to reconnect with her too deeply, because he was afraid to see judgment in her eyes, and yet— He never gave her the chance, not really. And there is one new experience that they share, now: the experience of having mourned for Fëanáro and his sons, in a world that did not find them worth mourning, and receiving them back only to rediscover just how infuriating they are.
Tagging: @tathrin @jaz-the-bard @echo-bleu @dragonridersofficer-fiammag and anyone else who wants to join!
