Becoming a CRNA: Is It Worth The Journey?
Tumblr media
There is a lot that goes into becoming a CRNA. If you’re already a registered nurse, the time and money you’ll have to put in are rather low. If you are a student though, and are looking into nursing, then you have a long way to go. It is important to decide whether the journey will be worth it before embarking on it.
It all depends on exactly what you desire. But, if you are sure that you want to be, or are already a nurse, it is worth it. Becoming a CRNA can be a very fulfilling occupation. Besides that, the earning potential for a CRNA is much greater than for a registered nurse.
You will need to get a master’s or doctorate to become a CRNA. You will also need to write the NCE. There are a lot of requirements, but with dedication, you can achieve them for sure.
This article will discuss the journey to become a CRNA along with the benefits and downsides. The hope is that this will help you make an informed decision on the next step that you wish to take.
Tumblr media
What Are the Advantages of Becoming a CRNA?
A certified registered nurse anesthetist is a specially skilled registered nurse. They have received certification to work alongside the surgical team and the anesthesiologist. They have a good number of skills that make them quite valuable to the team.
Reaching this point requires effort and long dedication. If it feels daunting, then look to the end result. Below are some of the benefits that you will gain from becoming a CRNA.
1. Increased earning potential. If you are aiming to maximize your earning potential, becoming a CRNA is an amazing choice. It is worth it if that is one of your major considerations. Among all nursing disciplines, a CRNA is one of the highest-paid. In fact, many times, a certified registered nurse anesthetist is the highest-paid nurse. Compared to an RN, becoming certified as a nurse anesthetist can earn you more than double an RN’s pay. In 2019, the RN salary was a little over $70,000 and nurse anesthetist pay was over $180,000. That is a major difference. Once again, if the financial benefit is a major consideration for you, the journey will be worth it in the end.
2. Improved employment opportunities. In almost any profession, once you narrow down your focus, you become more in demand. A CRNA doesn’t lose the skills of a registered nurse, but also adds a nurse anesthetist’s skills to the mix. This means that you will be more attractive to employers. You will also have more job opportunities as you can now apply for CRNA positions.
3. Good career advancement options. Reaching the top of the career ladder is something that many people want to achieve in their fields. Advancing your career brings a sense of fulfillment and a bump in benefits and pay.
It is fortunate that a CRNA has quite a few career options. A CRNA can decide to focus on a specific area of care. This can be pediatrics or neurosurgery, for instance. This helps focus their skills to provide the absolute best care for patients in a field.
They can also become academics, either by engaging in teaching or research work.
With enough clinical years, they can find themselves as the chief nurse anesthetist. This is more likely when they have administrative or managerial certifications.
4. Personal fulfillment. If becoming a CRNA is something that you have wanted to do for the longest time, it's hard to say it's not worth it. Along with the other advantages, if it is your passion, then that is enough to make it worth going for. They are an important part of the team.
Tumblr media
What Are the Downsides of Becoming a CRNA?
No profession is perfect. This remains true with becoming a nurse anesthetist. The process that gets you there might be the part that frustrates many registered nurses the most. For some people, some aspects of this process might be a deal-breaker for them. Here are some of the disadvantages of opting to become a CRNA:
Courses are expensive. To be fair, college is rather expensive almost anywhere in the United States. Students depend on student loans to be able to fund their way through school. This is the case with CRNA programs as well. Recent changes that make a Doctor of Nursing Practice the necessary minimum qualification. This means that RNs looking at this specialization will need to spend more money and time to get there. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing required 2 years as opposed to 3 for a DNP. Many CRNAs find themselves dealing with student debt years after the fact. But then again, so do most American graduates. The pay for the CRNA position will help get rid of that debt a bit faster too.
It takes time and effort. The journey to becoming a nurse anesthetist is rather long. After a 4-year bachelor, they need at least a year of experience, and then 3 years for a DNP. That’s nearly a decade spent chasing the CRNA certification. That is not including the certification examination. You will need to pass that exam to become an official CRNA. For anyone in a rush to end their educational journey, a CRNA might not be the best choice. Many aren’t ready to spend that time and effort going back to school life.
Shifts can be tough. This all depends on your workplace or the surgery, but some shifts will be brutal. Certain surgeries can take as long as 12 hours or even more. You will have to be there for the whole procedure and you won’t get the chance for breaks. You will likely also have frequent night shifts and call duties. If you’re not resilient, the stress of being a CRNA may get to you.
Tumblr media
In the end, it is all up to you. If you have gone through all the pros and cons listed here, you can make a decision. Balance these against each other and figure out which side you lean towards. Are any of the cons a deal-breaker for you? Are any of the pros and absolute must in your book?
It all depends on you to figure out whether the journey is worth it. If you ask me, it is. But we are all different, so you must decide on your own. The one thing I can promise you is, hate it or love it, being a CRNA is fulfilling.

Hi so ive been wondering something and you seem to be very willing to inform people on issue of people of colour, if this is by any means offensive you dont have to answer this nd i apologise. I would like to know if there some sort of racism amoung african-american people themselves? It might be rare but do lightskinned african-americans look down on dark skinned sometimes? Again i might sound incredibly ignorant but where i live there are very few people of colour so i have no idea.
Hi Anon. I’m going to let a really great article I read by Jaleel Campbell answer your question. I hope it helps.
Dark Skin Vs: Light Skin: The Battle of Colorism In The Black Community
In many different cultures and countries around the world, skin color plays a huge role in the concept of beauty. Lighter skin is often preferable to darker skin. The effects of the African American self-hate toward each other because of one’s skin color is rather eye opening and sad, to say the least. This is a very hot and taboo subject among the African American community. As a culture that came from years of oppression and hatred inflicted by slave owners, forced to think that because of their color, they were inferior, blacks have somehow reverted back to having this sort of mindset which is, in fact, hurting them as a whole. With no thanks to the media and its influence on what is seen as beautiful, Black America is tearing itself apart when it focuses on such a shallow aspect of a person that they can’t control. What a person makes of themselves and all of their aspirations should be what they’re judged on - not their skin color. African Americans should stop using skin color to discriminate against each other because it hinders the progression of the entire black community.
Frequent sightings of dark skinned people portrayed negatively in the media is heavily exploited, while light skinned and non-black individuals are portrayed more positively. These kind of prejudgements negatively impact the African American community and prevents the culture from moving forward. Hundreds of years after slavery, the actions of several people in the black community still show that the culture, as a whole, needs to stop and think about the negative connotations they are associating themselves with. Sometimes people make statements such as, "You're pretty for someone who's dark-skinned " or "pretty for a black girl". Phrases such as the ones above are in no shape or form, a compliment. When someone says the above statement they are implying that because of a darker persons complexion, they’re automatically supposed to be ugly. Subtle jabs like this can take their toll on the self esteem of a person.
Growing up as a child in a place where being ridiculed and made fun of because your skin is of a darker complexion is one thing that most Americans couldn’t even imagine. In an interview with Essence Magazine, actress Viola Davis discusses how, as a child, she too felt the pain of being called an assortment of derogatory terms and shares how after a while, she began to believe that she in fact, was ugly (essence.com). Imagine seeing a little girl who had all of her self confidence ripped from her before she entered the 6th grade. That was the norm for Davis back during her childhood. According to the author of “Exploring the Impact of Skin Tone on Family Dynamics and Race-Related Outcomes,” Evidence suggests that racial socialization helps foster the adjustment of children in the face of race-related adversity and serves to protect youth from negative mental health consequences (Hughes, 2006). What many people fail to realize is that children are still developing and in prepubescent kids especially, criticism such as being called ugly and being told you will amount to nothing, can have a substantial effect on the sanity of someone so young. That child is left with that idea stuck in the back of their head throughout life and this idea can be the base of all of the future problems the person has with their self image as an adult.
The Clark Doll Experiment, administered by Kenneth and Mamie Clark, was an experiment that dealt with race and how children perceive it at a young age. The results that came from it were indeed astonishing yet, heartbreaking to say the least.
In the experiment Clark showed black children between the ages of six and nine two dolls, one white and one black, and then asked these questions in this order:
“Show me the doll that you like best or that you’d like to play with,”
“Show me the doll that is the ‘nice’ doll,”
“Show me the doll that looks ‘bad’,”
“Give me the doll that looks like a white child,”
“Give me the doll that looks like a coloured child,”
“Give me the doll that looks like a Negro child,”
“Give me the doll that looks like you.”
The questionnaire concluded with 44 percent of the black children choosing the white doll as being the doll that looked like them. This study gained a lot of attention because of the fact that young black children were disassociating themselves with their true race. A question that the case leaves lingering in the air is “what made the children choose the white doll instead of the one that was more close to them?”
In American culture, whiteness and more of a European "look" is considered the norm, and as a result, blackness is associated with lesser status. When looking at some celebrities, for instance Nicki Minaj, there has been a drastic change to her appearance since she first came on to the scene. As her popularity arose, she began to seem more increasingly "light". It is clear to the reader that she has altered her appearance. Now why is this you ask? Predictions can be made that in order for her to move up the ladder in the music world, she had to gain crossover appeal by changing her appearance to fit the pop demographic that her managers wanted her to meet. Although she may not agree with some of the ideas her team are putting together to make up her image, it has since propelled her to superstardom.
Even today, some people who are lighter-skinned consider themselves superior to (and more attractive than) darker-skinned Americans. Filmmaker, Spike Lee, commented on this problem in the movie School Daze, where he exposed the problems between light and dark skinned individuals attending a historically black college. One famous scene from the movie involves two groups of women, one group light skinned, and the other dark skinned, as they argue in a hair salon about which group has good hair. Both groups of women use many derogatory words to describe each which shows how ignorance is still apparent even within one’s own race. Because of such ignorance, the movie received a lot of criticism after its premiere. Before Lee shed light on the subject, it was a topic that was swept under the table but because of his influence, the problem was brought to national attention.
A 2006, University of Georgia study showed that employers prefer light skinned black men to dark skinned men, regardless of their qualifications. They found that a "light-skinned male could have only a Bachelor’s degree and typical work experience and still be preferred over a dark-skinned male with an MBA and past managerial positions"(Harrison 2006). On the other hand, however, in the corporate world, it is assumed that ”relative to their lighter-skinned counterparts, darker skinned Blacks have lower levels of education, income, and job status” (Turner 1995). Since this stereotype is in place, “Corporate America” can be seen as nothing more than an imagination in the eyes of a dark person, as if they know that the job wouldn’t be inviting to people such as them. So how did black culture become so infused with self hatred? Dark skinned slaves working in the field hated the light skin slaves working in the master's house because of the fact that he chose to “spoil” their lighter counterparts. According to “Brotherman: The Odyssey of Black Men in America - an Anthology,” One of the most popular methods of teaching this divisive behavior was created by Willie Lynch, a British slave owner in the West Indies, who came to United States to advise American slave owners how to keep their slaves restrained. The darker slaves were forced to work in the fields and received no privileges. This is what began the division within the black community. As history shows, although light skinned blacks were of a higher rank than their black counterparts, they still received scraps at the end of the day (Boyd). This idea is still intact to this day when lighter skinned individuals seem to feel more inferior to darker toned people, but when you ask a Caucasian, or anyone outside of the African American race, what the light skinned individuals would be listed under its always the same response. Black. After slavery, educational institutions, clubs and other activities were reserved only for light skinned black people. In some instances, only those who were lighter than a brown paper bag (paper bag test) would be considered light enough to attend a college or an exclusive club (Boyd).
Sometimes magazines will lighten the skin of black women, just as L'oreal lightened Beyonce's Skin in a controversial makeup ad that made her appear as if she were, indeed, white. The idea of a more eurocentric look comes in to play again as we dig more into America’s perception of western beauty. Characteristics of Eurocentric beauty include: white skin, a narrow nose, blonde or brown long straight hair, and thin lips. For some reason, if you don’t fulfill these beauty standards, you are considered to be less attractive. Many questions can be raised because of this; who’s the decider of what qualifies as beautiful? As cliched as it may sound, beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder, despite what some people may think.
For some, the views and the opinions of others are too much to bare and consider procedures and different cosmetic products as a way to achieve the ever popular “eurocentric” look that they aspire to have. Although this may sound fine and dandy, the procedures and products bring more risks than they do good. Skin bleaching creams have become hot commodity in the black market beauty world. In a world where the only thing that is seen as beautiful is light skin, can others be to blame for the society that they are a product of? These toxic creams strip the skin of its melanin. Although the person achieves the look they intended to reach, their skin is now weak because of the components said products are composed of. On the other hand, everyone is entitled to self happiness, but the real question is are they ready to face all of the possible repercussions of skin bleaching? That is left for the person to decide.
This is a topic that won’t ever die because people refuse to stop being ignorant, which is evident by Twitter hashtags like #teamlightskin or #teamdarkskin, where people feud and try to prove who’s better based on skin color. Even when various YouTube searches on the topic are pulled up, thousands of results of people - some who try to diffuse the topic, while others add their foolish input. The fact that this topic still remains relevant is ridiculous.
According to “The Skin Color Paradox and the American Racial Order,” Dark-skin discrimination occurs within as well as across races (Turner). This idea is known to be true in an assortment of different cultures, most notably in the caste system set in India. The caste system is in place to form a structured society for the people of India based on one’s skin color. The lighter a person is, the more power that person holds, while the darker they are makes them more prone to living a harder life. Although life shouldn’t be that way for any human being, the darker toned Indians, often called the “untouchables,” are subject to hard labor throughout their lives.
To conclude, in many different cultures and countries around the world, skin color plays a huge role in the concept of beauty. Although light skin may be more preferable, those with darker skin still find their way in society. No matter what adversity they may have faced getting there, they eventually find solace in knowing that they’re on a road to success. The African American community must join together to show that they are more than just a skin, they are people. Although this may be a rather taboo subject, it needs to be brought to the forefront so it can finally be put to rest. The culture must move past those years of oppression and look to the future and what it has to offer. If the culture continues it current ways, then the oppression will always be there; the cycle must stop and the time has been long overdue. Even though the media has made steps in the right direction to show darker African Americans in a better light, the process must be stepped up a couple of notches to get real results. To reiterate, the color of the skin that you were born with should be just that. What a person makes of themselves and all of their aspirations should be what they’re judged on, not their skin color. It doesn’t matter where an African American falls on the spectrum of color because at the end of the day, they’re still black.

A Guide to Setting up a Business in the US as a Non-Resident
A Non-US resident may face some challenges when setting up a business in the USA. One of the main struggles is simply not having a US address, no social security since you’re physically outside of the country. Also, you might have little to no knowledge and experience about the legal and tax systems of the United States.
Hence, unlike  US citizens or residents, the process of creating a new business organization is more challenging and for this, you should consider ensuring a variety of required services in order to do it correctly.
3 Types of Business Entities That You Can Open in the US as a Non-Resident
1) C – Corporation
A C-corporation or a regular corporation facilitates a limited personal liability to the owner where he is not using his personal income tax return in paying the taxes on the corporation’s profit. The corporation itself is the one paying out the cash to the government at a lower rate compared to the other forms of business pay. Setting up a corporation would mean a fair amount of paperwork, but a lot of legal formalities will be rendered prior to a startup.
2) LLC – Limited Liability Company
Just like the corporations, LLCs are facilitating limited liabilities to the owners but only as far as the payment of taxes is concerned. LLCs are more of partnership firms where the owners report their business income based on their own personal tax return. This is the type of business arrangement that is not requiring a lot of legal formalities as other forms of business requirement. This could be the main reason why it is the best choice for starting a new business.
3) S – Corporation
This is a corporation where special tax status is elected together with the IRS (Internal Revenue Services). This tax treatment is allowing the corporation’s income to be treated as an income of a sole proprietorship or partnership where the shareholders get the income. Hence, the individual tax returns of the shareholders will report its loss or income generated by an S corporation.
Same with the LLC, an S-corporation is providing all the limited liability of a regular corporation while owners are paying taxes for their business income.
However, unlike LLC, S-corporations should be a regular corporation first prior to applying for a unique tax-paying status and continue to follow all other corporate regulations. All of these suggest that an S-Corporation business structure has a requirement of careful consideration and even expert advice prior to startup.
Furthermore, the corporation should be a U.S corporation to qualify for an S-corporation status with not having above 75 shareholders. It can have one class of stock only. The shareholders should be estates, individuals, or certain qualified trusts who have the consent in writing to the election of the S-corporation. The shareholders can’t be a non-US resident.
If you don’t know what type of corporation you need, check An Introduction to the 4 Common Business Structures.
The exact papers needed to be filed to a corporation depends on the laws of the state where the corporation is being settled.
However, the Article of Incorporation is the most demanded and common paper.
Article of Incorporation — The Article of Incorporation states the primary rules in governing the corporation’s management. A corporation starts to become active on the date where the applicable governmental office in the state of incorporation accepts the Article for filing. Filing an Article of Incorporation may cost between $80 to $800.
Proof of working officers — This is proof that shows your company is handled by a set of officers such as the President, Vice-President, and Secretary as required.
Fictitious Business Name Statement — Fictitious Business name statement is required to be filed. Also, this is known as DBA (Doing Business As). The rule of the government in filing the DBA is based on the reason that in case of any dispute, legal problems are easy to keep by the government authorities. Furthermore, it aids in having other permits and licenses such as opening a business checking account. This is to be filed to the county clerk of the county where the incorporation is to be started.
A wise step in doing all these is to hire a registered agent who does provide a registered address for the receipt of legal papers. A registered agent will serve as the local contact for other government agencies and for the Secretary of State.
Also, the registered agent receives notice of any tax notices, suits, etc; the registered agent will be the one to forward them to the corporation. However, one can become a registered agent if his address is within the state of the incorporation that you will establish.
Do I Need a Visa to Open a US Business?
You don’t need to have a visa to open a business in the USA. However, having a business is not enough if you want to live inside of the US. This is the main reason why lots of people are getting one. There are a few visa options that you can choose from, the most popular one for entrepreneurs is the E-2 visa.
Obtaining this type of visa means you qualify to the following criteria:
You should be a citizen from a country that is part of the Treaty of Commerce, Navigation, or Friendship with the US. You can get a full list of eligible treaty countries at the Department Of State’s Treaty Countries website.
You should already have an investment or planning to have a significant amount of investment in a US business. You are not required to invest an absolute set of money. However, if you invest less than $100,000 then you could have difficulties in getting this visa. Also, stipulations state that it should be a substantial portion of your personal funds in general.
You should show proof of having a controlling share of 50% or more of your business.
Furthermore, your spouse is eligible for a work visa and is up for an indefinite renewal with the help of the E-2 visa. However, the E-2 visa is not creating a clear path where you can obtain a Green Card. It will most likely end up as a permanent status of a non-resident alien when starting a business and enter the US with this type of visa.
There are a lot more other visa options that you can explore if the E-2 visa is not suitable for you. You can find the full list of US visas on the US Citizen and Immigration Service’s Entrepreneur Visa Guide. Right now, the following visas are the most common ones:
i) F-1 OPT (Optional Practical Training) Visa
This type of visa is for the students studying in the US with an active F-1 Visa who plans on opening a business that is associated directly with their university major.
ii) H-1B Specialty Occupation Visa
This type of visa is requiring you to work for a position that is typically requiring a bachelor’s or more advanced degree, or a foreign equivalent in a specialized field.
iii) O-1A Extraordinary Ability and Achievement Visa
This type of visa is granted to people who have proof of having extraordinary skills in arts, science, sports, education, or business. Plus, you must have sustained a national or international recognition for this.
iv) L-1 Multinational Transfer Visas
This type of visa enables foreign companies in transferring executive, managerial, and specialized employees to a US branch who have been employed at a foreign company for at least one year.
v) E-1 Treaty Trader Visa
This type of visa is only applicable to work on the activities which were approved during the issuance of the visa itself. One should be a citizen of a country that has a treaty of navigation and commerce with the US. It is a requirement for an E-1 visa holder to create an important value for their company in terms of the legal trading of goods, banking, and services. There is no limit on the amount of trade although the US empathizes with the number of transactions over the total value of the actual trade.
What State Should You Register Your Business?
It is best to consider registering your business in a state that has lower tax burdens especially if you are an online company or has business across a range of regions. Delaware is one state that is surprisingly inexpensive for entrepreneurs. What makes this state popular is the corporate law it has where it gives significant security to the directors and shareholders.
A bank account or a physical address isn’t necessary for incorporating a business in Delaware. Also, the state is welcoming foreign entrepreneurs through the different available languages on the website of Delaware’s corporate law.
5 Steps to Register Your Company in the US
The registration process from state to state slightly varies. It depends on what you are forming, whether it is a C-corporation or an LLC. You can consider the process for starting a business in Delaware as a good model since it is nearly the same process that a US citizen would experience.
Here are the following steps that you should follow:
1) Company Name
Discovering your new company’s name should be the first on your priority list. This is a great way and a simple step that your creativity and imagination will be used. There’s more to think about than just having a company name.
For instance, you probably want to have an idea of what your company logo should be, or a company slogan attached to it. Many people are people believing that the best company names are the ones that truly relate to their products or services that they are providing. This makes the company easier to remember by their potential clients or customers. Hence, it is another thought to consider.
If you plan on setting up an operation online, then you would be wanting to make sure that your desired domain is still available. So, having a quick look through a domain provider should be done. You can use a company name checker such as the Wisteria Formations to ensure the availability of your new LTD company name.
2) Hire a Registered Agent

The Role of the Project Coordinator
Sometimes functional leads or project managers need help managing projects. That’s where the project coordinators come in. Let’s explain the role of the project coordinator in detail. There already is a lot about project managers and their various roles and responsibilities floating around on the web and even on our blog. We’ve also talked about program managers and other types of project management disciplines, but now we want to explore the role of project coordinator. Different Roles in Project Management To get an idea of where the project coordinator sits in the overall structure of the organization, let’s first map out the different project management roles. There is first the organization which has either a functional lead or a project manager. The project coordinator is the person who reports to either the functional lead or the project manager. They are the next in the chain of command and do a lot of the logistics for managing the project. Duties of the Project Coordinator A project coordinator will coordinate the schedule, the budget and the issues and risks of the project. It’s their job to make sure the project is well-organized and that it runs smoothly. This can include communicating with various departments in the organization to make sure everyone is on the same page. Project coordinators need to excel in a fast-paced and challenging work environment. There is always something that needs attention, more often many things, so the ideal project coordinator must be comfortable in a stressful atmosphere. What Are the Qualities of a Project Coordinator? There are many qualities that define a successful project coordinator. Jennifer listed some of the more important ones. Detail Oriented: Attention to detail is critical when you’re overseeing so many different aspects of the project, all of which are important to its well-being and success. Be sure to highlight this aspect on your project coordinator resume. Dependable: The project manager is going to depend on the project coordinator to handle the minutiae of the project’s management, and therefore, it’s crucial that the project coordinator is dependable and can be relied on to uphold their responsibilities without having to be micromanaged. Good Communicator: Think of the project coordinator as the bridge connecting the project manager to various other project members, then you can see the importance of having superior communications skills. They need to understand the message and deliver it clearly to the target audience. Productive: The project demands productivity from its participants, and this is especially true for the project coordinator. Coordinators are often the grease that keeps the wheels of the project turning, so it’s doubly important that they’re productive. Get Things Done: The last thing a project manager wants is a project coordinator who is given a task and then doesn’t follow-through. The project coordinator has a great deal of autonomy, but if they can’t get things done, then its all for naught. The ability to get things done is probably the biggest requirement on a project coordinator job description. All organizations should have a project coordinator who works under the project manager in order to have a smooth operation. Project Coordinator Job Description Project coordinators go by a few different titles, such as lead project coordinator, which is a higher-level position and construction project coordinator. If you’re looking for a project coordinator or want to become one, here are some of the responsibilities and skills that key to getting the job done right. Some responsibilities of a project coordinator include: Making sure that your team has the tools they need to execute the project. Creating a project schedule, with milestones, due dates and estimates for those materials that are required and other resources, such as team members, which will then be submitted to management for approval. Helping with the documentation of each phase of the project, as well as making summary reports that will be presented to the organization’s management team. Working with team members in the field or on site who have project issues. Keep up the morale of team members and build relationships with them to develop a strong working unit and supporting their impact on the success of a project. As for the education background and skills that a project coordinator should have to be eligible for the position, they are as follows: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field. PMP certified by the Project Management Institute and have that certification current. Work autonomously, making decisions without too much managerial oversight. Know the concepts related to the management of a project. Knowledge of project management tools, especially cloud-based software. Project Coordinator Salary Project coordinators can make a salary on average of $53,965 annually in the U.S., depending on the type of position, location and experience. Project Coordinator Tools Project coordinators have a lot of responsibilities that can be managed by the right tools. One of the most important is an online Gantt chart, like the one featured in ProjectManager.com. Our online Gantt chart makes responding to changes quick and easy. To change a start or end date, just drag and drop the duration bar to the new dates. Also, if there are dependencies, they can be linked. This keeps managers and teams aware of what tasks must be completed before the next one can be started. Project Coordinators are communicators, and ProjectManager.com is a collaborative platform that facilitates clear communication. For example, our online Gantt chart allows for teams to comment at the task level, attaching relevant documents. Project coordinators can join in on the narrative stream and offer support and guidance in real-time. One-click reporting makes a project coordinator’s job that much more productive. These reports can be filtered to address the concerns of the project manager or stakeholders. If asked for more details in a presentation, they reports are online and can be quickly accessed for a deep dive into the asked-for data. ProjectManager.com and Project Coordinators ProjectManager.com is a cloud-based project management software. As noted above, our one-click reporting and online Gantt chart are dynamic features that make a project coordinator work more effectively and efficiently. But there’s more. Our real-time dashboard keeps you aware of project metrics tracking progress, cost, tasks and more  in colorful and clear graphs and charts. See how ProjectManager.com can help you be a more productive project coordinator by taking this free 30-day trial.  Watch a Tutorial Video on Project Coordinators If you’d like to get a little more familiar with what a project coordinator does, then watch the following training video by Jennifer Bridges, PMP. ProjectManager.com offers a wealth of resources for all roles in project management. We have hundreds of tutorial videos and blog posts that cover all aspects of project management. Here’s a thumbnail for your reference. Thanks for watching! Transcription: Today, we’re talking about the role of the project coordinator. Well, we’ve been looking at the different project management roles. We’ve looked at the project manager, a program manager, portfolio manager, and today, we wanna talk about the project coordinator. We often talk about the project manager and more and more we’re seeing job openings for the project coordinator. And then, sometimes, organizations are looking to hire a project manager, but they’re just not quite sure if they may just need a project coordinator. So I want to look at a couple scenarios where the project coordinator reports into an organization. Well, sometimes, the project coordinator reports directly into the functional lead. And in that case, they’re typically managing the project on their own. And then, sometimes, they report directly into a project manager, and in that case, they’re coordinating and reporting on a schedule, the budget, and any issues and risk. So sometimes, project coordinators wanna remain a project coordinator. And then, sometimes, they’re looking to segue into that project manager role. So, when we think of project coordinator, they’re basically responsible for keeping the project organized and running smoothly. And it’s great for someone who enjoys a fast-paced and challenging environment. So, some of the qualities for project coordinators are, they’re very detail-oriented, they have a high attention to detail, they’re very dependable, if they say they’re going to do something, they’re going to get it done. They’re also a good communicator so when they’re sending out email communications or any kind of communication, they really think through the details of that communication, and who it needs to go to, and the message they need to deliver. They’re very productive and they just really get things done. As a matter of fact, for me, on my projects, I like having a project coordinator. And for most organizations I work with, I recommend that the project manager has a project coordinator working with them so the project coordinator can focus on the details of the project, and allow the project manager to spend more time with stakeholder relationships, and be building those really strategic business relationships. Do I Need A Degree To Become A Firefighter?
Do I need a degree to become a firefighter, is a question I get a lot.  The role of a firefighter is one that requires a lot of training, specialty skills in specific areas and a good level of intelligence. We don’t always think of firefighters as being college-educated, although there is no reason why they couldn’t be.
We often see the job as purely vocational, something we can sign up for at a fairly early age with minimal academic qualifications. If that is the case, why are there so many colleges and fire academies across the country that offer a degree course in fire subjects? Do you actually need a college after all?
So, Do I need a degree to become a firefighter?
The short answer is no. You don’t need to have a degree to be a firefighter as many departments will train you to their standards and help you with certifications. You may need a Firefighter I and II certification in order to work as a qualified firefighter. EMT certification and some paramedic training certificates are also encouraged.
Instead, you work through your basic training as a recruit, enter into the screening process that includes tests and interviews and then gain your qualifications based on those new-found skills.
It is all purely vocational and can often center around professional training divisions and academies within your local area. If you have no aspirations to progress much further than a senior firefighter or officer, a college degree really isn’t that essential for you.
In this guide, I want to clear up any confusion by addressing some of the main points regarding firefighter education and essential training.
I will look at what it is like for firefighters that don’t attend college to earn a degree. Then I will look at the potential benefits of getting a degree depending on your current situation and aspirations.
On The Job Training vs. Classroom Training
On-the-job learning and training provide firefighters with the chance to learn new skills and gain additional certifications as they work.
In other words, you can evolve as you serve your community and learn the skills that are most important to your department and the local area.
For example, if you are part of a rural department near areas prone to wildfires, you can take wildland management training courses to help you handle this role. If you work near water or in colder areas, marine fire suppression skills, water rescue and ice rescue could be useful.
It is all about building knowledge as you work. It is easy to build a career in this way without any formal college education or degree if you are willing to put the effort into your studies and enhance your skillset.
A college degree may not be essential, but it can be useful. That being said, there are advantages to having a college education. College courses in fire science subjects help by
Providing a more comprehensive education on the subject
Taking subjects further with advanced courses on management and administration subjects
Giving young applicants and volunteer firefighters the chance to gain that college life experience that they don’t want to miss out on.
This idea of the college experience is something that is often overlooked. College isn’t just about the classes, the credits earned and the final degree at the end.
Students learn a lot about themselves and the world around them as they develop into adults at college. The people they meet, and the life lessons here could prove valuable when dealing with incidents in their community in the fire service.
I do have a few words of warning, however, to all those that want to get the “full” college experience and then join the fire service. There are strict rules for applicants on their fitness and their previous experience with drugs.
Keep this in mind, stay out of trouble to highlight your good character and work on your fitness to be ready for those fitness tests like the CPAT.
Should you get a certificate, associate degree or full bachelor’s degree?
There are different options available depending on your goals and the choices at your local college. You can pick between the following:
Certificates:
It’s important to remember that there are different types of courses out there at different lengths. You can choose the option that is most applicable to your needs and situation. The first option is the certificate course.
These programs are typically vary from a few months to a year and offer basic training and knowledge on fire behavior and suppression. The idea here is that students come out of the course with a formal certificate of higher education that looks good on their resume.
The qualification also allows most graduates the chance to take their Firefighter 1 and 2 examinations before they apply for a job at a department.
The advantage here is that you can show hiring officers that you already know a lot about the job and how to handle the equipment. They don’t have to worry about training you and you might jump to the top of the list in the hiring process over inexperienced applicants.
Associate degree:
The next step is to extend the studies into a 2-year associate degree. This is a great idea for those willing to put in a little more time for a more comprehensive education on the subject.
This longer course provides more credits and hours in the classroom and the training areas. This will allow you to expand your knowledge in key areas for more experience.
There are different options when taking associate degrees and choosing the best course. Some colleges that are more academic in nature may stay within the classrooms with minimal experience in simulations.
Others may have a designated fire facility with burn rooms and other equipment. There are also colleges that run partnerships with local departments for first-hand experience in firefighting.
Bachelor’s degree:
From there, you could transfer the credits onto a full bachelor’s degree. This is where you get more specialist subjects based on the focus of the degrees.
Some degrees are more focused on the technology side of fire suppression, rescue and strategies. Others are more administrative and managerial with modules on law, investigations and other skills.
The latter is a great qualification for those that want to move into these management roles in the future.
Bachelor’s degrees also bring in other credits in other subjects for a more well-rounded education. You could find a course that has a single major with room to bring in additional credits in English, sciences, history, politics or psychology.
You might also be able to add a minor to your degree in a related subject. Some people that aim to become a firefighter/paramedic and will choose to minor in paramedicine or other medical sciences.
Be aware that the certificates and associate degrees are often more accessible than the full bachelor’s degrees. Local community colleges may have the former but then you will have to relocate to finish the course.
A college course could be a good way to give yourself an advantage before you reach the minimum hiring age.
Another factor that I want to mention here is that some fire departments have a higher minimum age than average for new recruits.
Most will take applicants from people out of high school at 18. But there are some that insist that applicants are 19, 20 or even 21. That could mean 3 years between graduating high school and getting your dream job.
So, what do you do? Do you get a menial job to pay the bills and pass the time? Or, do you go to college, improve your education and apply at the right age with that advantage.
If a department wants to make sure that their recruits are old enough, mature enough and have enough life experience, college could be the best option for you.
Be sure to weigh the pros and cons of getting a degree
Therefore, while a college degree isn’t essential in order to become a firefighter, it is recommended for many people. It all depends on your ideal career path.
If you want to work for your local department as soon as possible, and they accept 18-year-old applicants, take the vocational route, get your basic certification and learn on the job.
If you want to gain a little more experience and education first, or aren’t old enough to join, a college education could be what sets you apart from other candidates.
Research the courses available near you for a better idea of your chances. Also, talk to your local department about their minimum requirements and recommendations.
Check out my state by state guides on how to become a firefighter on the site here as this will have information and recommendations for courses that may be in your area.
Don’t forget that knowledge is power in any profession. The more you know now, and the more you are prepared to learn, the better able you will be to serve your community effectively.

What Questions Can I Ask Our Ceo In Our Accounts Payable Quarterly Meeting?
I have $12m in an offshore account. How can I get it into the country without paying taxes?
How can one switch from an accounts executive position to a finance/taxation related job profile?
That's going to mean delegating as much as you can to others and eliminating as many costs as possible. This is the universal truth that when you are in a business, you can't ignore late paying customers and their emotional excuses. Public accountants may serve a different client each week or even travel to different client sites in the same day; corporate accountants will work for the same employer all year. In a building that leases single offices that have a shared kitchen/lounge area and shared receptionists. (One example is Regus) Next to a bank that services commercial accounts. Plus there's the fear of making a mistake and you'll soon be second-guessing yourself. A bored accountant wants to change his career in a new country (Canada). What should I go for? in Harrogate will help you and ensure that no mistakes will be made on your tax returns. That said a local accountant has to be a jack of all trades, because most of his clients will only come from about a 15 mile radius of his location. Tax obligations are fulfilled timelyBookkeeping helps in maintaining an update of all the information and documents which will be necessary to produce while paying annual taxes. You need to be the first thing they see when they start looking, and that's usually expensive. When picking your business location, choose one that generates business. As others have pointed out, you would be able and qualified to offer more google:suggestrelevance with a qualification in Quickbooks. That said I do imagine TT is a threat to the guys I mentioned above who are at the low end of the market and probably fishing for some of the same people that TT appeals to.If anything you could probably attribute an increase in typical accounting firm tax prep fees to TT and HRB. The common practice is to engage an expert hand to do the bookkeeping. In addition to users benefiting from more informed finance professionals serving and analyzing their finances, consumers benefit from gaining increased perspective of their own finances. You can never know too much about your finances!Good luck! But no one knows for sure what AI will turn out to be, at the rate machines are evolving anything is possible.Machines taking a CA's job is an extreme extrapolation of the present tech scenario, which I agree completely. You got your required state as per your marks/Category and some other credentials which are decided by them at the time of final selection.Yes, If your marks are good then they must give you your state. This is more an introductory text that serves as both an addition to and a refresher of managerial accounting concepts. You may also appreciate "Accounting Handbook" (Joel Siegel, CPA) which may serve as a practical go-to reference for a quick brush up on very specific and particular concepts which include cost-based accounting, securities investments, and tax accounting.
What is a decent software package to use in Brazil for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Inventory Management?
I have met introverted accountants but they have been both male and female and in the minority. You can use most of the features for free is you only need one user on your account. However, the most unique aspect of CA would be the Articleship training that he/she has to go through. From a US perspective, you can certainly offer bookkeeping and tax preparation services. I apologize in advance if I am not very specific in answering your question.
youtube
I think the hardest part is that accounting is one discipline where there is really no substitute for real world experience. Open multiple baby accounts and deposit the relative amounts to cover daily. However, tax issues can happen at any time of year. However, after settling in to my job at PwC, I found the work to be interesting and challenging, the pay was good, and my work/life balance was better than that of some of my attorney colleagues. In answer to your direct question, yes, go ahead and get the AAS first. Be aware that your accountant has the last word on which documents you keep for tax purposes. Generally, the majority of the first 2 years of a bachelors degree are core classes. Without good numbers a business owner is flying bling and making decisions based on feelings, not facts.Remote bookkeeping has become the bigger trend in the accounting and finance industry because quality bookkeeping can be brought to a business owner from anywhere. Just keep in mind one thing that every business requires accounts. Don't focus on grossing a million a month, focus on being profitable enough for you to quit the day job and either run the business full time, or use the profits to cover bills while you start something else. However role of such bodies is limited only to standard setting and they can't 'license' or 'certify' an accountant.2. You can easily double check entered information for accuracy without spending hours sifting through receipts. There are many great resources available here including the ability to learn how to file your taxes including which tax forms to use. I would favor finance, but I took a lot of classes in finance at Baruch while majoring in management, and thsi gives me a bias. There are plenty of check-cashing operations that will gladly cash a tax refund check for a small percentage charge. There are a few choices out there that may service your needs for being a true SaaS solution and supports multi-currency. Paying interest on a debt is an expense, but repaying the debt is not an expense, it is the reduction of a liability. an expense may occur without payment of cash. Most of them have been ambitious, extroverted, hard nosed and a little wild.

A few weeks ago I started working delivery for a catering company that is working with a gym providing a high end meal preparation service for our area. I consider myself a very analytical, efficient, organized, and observant individual and have known the staff at the gym that's involved for a long time now. While doing my job doing simple deliveries and interacting with both companies I made the realization that there is a need for someone to take this project from them. Currently the staff of both companies is doing far more than they can handle and have staff members working say 8 hours training or managing the gym, or the caterer working a full day and then all of them come in to package/prep/organize the meals, and some of those people then also are at the caterer's by 4 am to help deliver. I confronted a senior staff member about my concerns for the project with the assumption it will expand and even as it exists now and conveyed this information to him and he offered me the opportunity to make a proposal for such a managerial position, to those who own the companies/currently run the project.I have my bachelors in science/psychology and have little professional experience with such things, and while I consider myself a very intelligent and efficient individual - I have no business background. That being said I am passionate about taking on this responsibility and was hoping fellow Redditors might have some advice on how to go about producing/presenting a professional business proposal, from start to finish, as it may pertain to the position I've described. To all, thanks a lot in advance!Edit 1: Responsibilities would basically include everything starting from after clients sign onto the program to getting the product to their doorstep, not including the cooking and preparation of the food itself. Examples would include hiring and managing personnel to deliver & package, working with our digital design guy on something like a cloud-based system for said personnel to get their routes and information required to deliver, determining the most time efficient routes to minimize superfluous hires, potentially working as customer support for clients involved, ordering supplies needed, and possibly several other responsibilities I have yet to identify.
