Cricket Canada organizes Canadian National Men’s Championship T20

British Columbia (BC) and Ontario both clinched double victories in the Canada National T20 Championships opening day fixtures , enabling them to climb up the ranks of each group. Both teams have flawless records of two wins from as many games played. Teams from all ten cricket Canada's Member Provinces, Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan are competing for National T20 Championship honours in the 11-15 July 2022 event that is being played on the King City's Maple Leaf Cricket Club.

British Columbia (214/4-20) got its Group A campaign in a great place with an easy win of 53 runs in its first match with New Brunswick (161/7-20). BC was however faced with the tougher challenge of Saskatchewan which came close to causing one of the biggest upsets in tournament history. In response to Saskatchewan's official score of 111/8-20. BC had a difficult time losing crucial wickets frequently until their ninth wicket two Singhs combinationof Ravinderpal (13*) and Newah (1*) finally saw BC win.

In the second Group A opening day match, Newfoundland (112/6-20) proved to be insufficient against Quebec (113/0-20) defeating to Quebec by 10 wickets. The win left Quebec with a perfect record of just one win from the only Day 1 match.

While BC was proving the utmost Group dominant position, Ontario did much similar in Group with nearly lopsided wins in its two opening day fixtures. A 105-run century in the opening match with Shubham Sharma (55) and Rayyan Pathan (47) formed the basis for Ontario's easy 68-run win against Nova Scotia in its opening match.

The first batsman of Ontario scored 158/3 off 20 overs. The innings driven by Sharma's half century comprised of only 37 balls, with eight fours and one six. Pathan's 47 was less aggressive, taking 48 balls and containing seven boundaries.

Aiming for a 159-run victory at a rate of just 8 per game Nova Scotia was never in the game, and got off to a shaky beginning, losing their first three wickets Amit Joshi (4), Neel Patel (4) and Daksh Talwar (0) within the first two innings with just 8 runs in the bank. The wickets continued to fall frequently until the Nova Scotians were taken out for 89. The Nova Scotians lost their final wicket on their fourth delivery of 20 the over, the team fell just 69 runs short of their winning target.

Ontario's second opening day game against Manitoba and a similar easy win for the tournament's hosts. Batting first, Ontario recorded a dazzling 183/3-20 , courtesy of Rayyan Pathan's explosive 55 balls 86 that included eight fours and 4 sixes. Armaan Kapoor also chipped in with 51 which consisted of 35 balls, and two sixes and four fours.

In response Manitoba was able to win despite Vasu Shah's 60 ball 67 that included five fours and two sixes, was unable to handle Ontario's bowling attack, which was led by Canadian National pacer Dilon Heyliger (3/23-3) to be a difficult task. Just a few runs away from 119/8 at the conclusion of the 20 overs, the team fell short of their goal with 64 runs.

The first day's matches of the Championship included half-century performances of Ontario's Rayyan Pathan (88), his teammates Shubham Shama (55) and Armaan Kapoor (51) and Québec's Yashwanath Reddy (73) and the New Brunswick's Divank Satwani (71) and British Columbia's Bhupinder Singh (69) and the Manitoba's Vasu Shah (67) and Newfoundland's Manik Arora (55). Of the bowlers, BC's Aaron Johnson had the day's most impressive figures, with 4/12-2. Three wickets were of a haul for Saskatchewan's Sarmad Anwar (3/14-4) as well as the Alberta's Rommel Shahzad (3/18-4) and Ontario's Dilon Heyliger (3/23-3).

The Championships will continue with the 12th of July Day 2 fixtures featuring six matches: Quebec vs Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia vs Manitoba, Newfoundland against British Columbia, PEI vs Ontario, New Brunswick vs Saskatchewan and Alberta in a match against Manitoba. Operation Dwarka

Operation Dwarka was a naval operation by the Pakistan Navy to attack the Indian coastal town of Dwarka on 7 September 1965. This was the first use of Pakistan Navy in any of the Indo-Pakistan Wars. It was one of the significant naval events of the 1965 Indo-Pak war, and Pakistan celebrates 8 September as "Victory Day" for Pakistan Navy. As the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 broke out between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, armies and air forces of both nations were involved in intense fighting in the Punjab region and in Kashmir. To relieve pressure on the southern front, Pakistan decided to use its navy in the war by launching a quick strike on Indian coast. The primary objective of the attack ostensibly was to destroy the radar station at Dwarka which Pakistani Naval intelligence believed had a Huff-Duff beacon to guide Indian bombers. Pakistani high command also hoped to divert the operations of the Indian Air Force away from the north.

Objectives The mission objectives of Pakistan Navy are listed below: To draw heavy enemy units out of Bombay for the submarine PNS Ghazi to attack. To destroy the radar installation at Dwarka. To lower Indian morale. To divert Indian Air Force effort away from the north.

Operation Dwarka was a significant naval operation of the 1965 war, considered by some as a nuisance raid or of little strategic value. The Ministry of Defence had issued written instructions which ordered the Indian Navy "not to proceed two hundred miles beyond Bombay nor North of the parallel of Porbander". The lack of response by the Indian Navy to the attack on Dwarka led to questions being asked in Indian parliament and was considered a humiliation by Indian citizens and Navy personnel and a challenge to be answered by others. The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral B.S. Soman was restrained from retaliation for the Dwarka raid by the Defence Minister. Of the Indian Navy's 23 ships, ten were under refit in Bombay, including the Vikrant, the cruiser Delhi, three destroyers and two frigates. An Indian source explained this by saying that the Indian Government did not want to get into a naval conflict with Pakistan, but wished to restrict the war to a land-based conflict. The failure of INS Talwar to retaliate, then undergoing repairs to her condensers in Okha, has been lamented by Indian Vice Admiral N. Krishnan who said that no Government would blame a warship going into action, if attacked. PNS Ghazi continued to patrol Kachhh and Bombay coasts spotting aircraft positions when snorkeling.

The Dwarka raid is considered by Pakistani sources as being a prime reason for the Indian Navy's subsequent post-war modernization and expansion, with an increase in budget from ₹35 crore (equivalent to ₹17 billion or US$240 million in 2017) to ₹115 crore (equivalent to ₹40 billion or US$590 million in 2017). The Dwarka raid, as per an Indian historian G. M Hiranandani, led to the procurement of missile boats by the Indian Navy from the Soviet Union for the Defense of Kutch. These were subsequently used by India in Operation Trident in the 1971 war. However, he attributes the expansion of the Indian Navy in the period 1965 to 1975 to the post-1962 planned expansion of the Indian Navy with many ships being negotiated and purchased from the Soviet Union prior to the war.

Indian Naval Ship Tabar reached St Petersburg on Thursday as part of a five-day goodwill visit to Russia and to participate in the 325th Navy Day celebrations of the Russian Navy. India and Russia share special bilateral relations that span several decades. These include close military ties and strong cooperation between the two navies, the defence ministry said in a statement.

INS Tabar is a Talwar-class stealth frigate and forms part of the Indian Navy's Western Fleet which is based at Mumbai under the Western Naval Command. Interestingly, the ship was built for the Indian Navy in Russia and was commissioned at St Petersburg in April 2004.

During the Russian Navy Day Parade on 25 Jul 21, INS Tabar will join the column of ships that will be reviewed by the President of Russian Federation. The Indian Naval Band embarked on Tabar will also participate in the City Parade during the celebrations. In addition, during her stay at St Petersburg, the crew of Tabar will participate in various bilateral professional interactions with the Russian Navy.
