So You Think You Can Dance season 14: auditions 2

Can I say how great it is to see the classic opening credits again?

Vanessa a “multitalented superstar of stage and screen?” I haven’t really heard from her since High School Musical. Also, we should have a drinking game and take a shot whenever Vanessa tells someone “I love you”.

They also finally mention the choreography round. So it still exists. Okay cool. Two guys who got sent there could twist their joints and holy crap that kind of thing is cool but also scary. Another dancer in the round was Blessin Giraldo - I really admire her story about starting a stepping club at her all-girls school. I’ll admit I don’t know much about this style. The judges send her to choreography because they aren’t sure how other styles will work out for her. She didn’t pass because she lacked technique. Anyway, if dancing doesn’t work out for her, she can go into theatre because her voice projection is off the charts.

There was a guy in her group who has really high elevation in his jumps.

Tristan and Jensen - as in Jensen Arnold, Lindsay’s younger sis. They don’t look very similar though, besides the hair and makeup style, but are pretty alike in personality. I think she was in one of the troupes that didn’t make it through on WoD, so here she is. They have a great stage presence together. Jensen is captivating and Tristan showed some great footwork. The last pose was a little wobbly though. They go through unsurprisingly.

Horserider dude - he didn’t fuse belly dancing and hip hop as nicely as it could have been. He was entertaining though, and I think people would relate or at least empathise with his story of having to pretend to be macho growing up. The fact that he got into belly dancing of all styles makes it unique. He didn’t go through but I think people might remember him.

Sade Austin - her parents choreographed and danced for...Mariah Carey? If I remember correctly... She was great so they invited her mum to the stage for a token parent-child dance. She goes through.

Matthew - the young contemporary male dancer has great turns, but I wasn’t really into that routine. Some parts of it seemed oddly choreographed. I agree with the judges’ emotion comments. Nonetheless, he goes through to the Academy.

Dustin - I like the way he says “thankyouthankyouthankyou” when Cat complimented his hat. He has a nice smooth comedic hip hop style. I think

My favourite this week goes to Inyoung “Dassy” Lee - Wow! I can’t stand the song Big Spender but I love what she did with the song. It had lots of animation, popping and locking with some jazziness thrown in. Academy it is.

Took me longer than expected, but now let’s watch!

Tristan and Jensen: Hey, we’ve seen her before. She looks like Lindsay’s clone. So, the best thing about this was finally hearing a legit ballroom critique again. I agree with Mary; I definitely didn’t even see Tristan for the majority of that, but Jensen was also wearing bright yellow, so that might have had something to do with it.

Cody Ostrenga: Alright, that horse segment went on entirely too long for no real reason. But this dude said he was gonna do belly dancing/hip-hop fusion. alright. Let’s see it then. And. Well. You know what? WERK CODY WERK

Sade Austin: She hasn’t danced yet, but I already love her. Confirmed after audition: She’s perfect. Her and her mom dancing together was perfect. I’ve learned my lesson about getting too invested in hip-hop girls before Not-Vegas, but I’ll cross my fingers.

Matthew Deloch: So, he’s really good at turning. Kind of like Casey was. I really liked his audition, though. I got where Nigel and Venessa were coming from about wanting to feel more, but I didn’t think it was terrible or anything. (Not like Casey.)

Inyoung “Dassy” Lee: YOOOOOOOOO! When the beat dropped!!! Probably my favorite audition so far! She’s so unique and adorable and I love her. It’s a shot in the dark, but I hope she makes it. I feel like I’m saying that about everybody lmao.

Blessin Giraldo: Nigel is so ignorant. Belssin set him straight, but geez, where did he even get that from?? When I was a kid, stepping was even considered a super girly hobby! I figured she’d get cut in choreography, but I really hope we get to see her step team on the show. It really doesn’t have the same impact solo.

OKAY TRIPLE JOINTING IS THE GROSSEST THING I’VE EVER SEEN IN MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE. WE HAVE TO DRAW THE LINE SOMEWHERE. NOPE. I LITERALLY CLOSED MY EYES DURING THE SEGMENT. I CANNOT DEAL WITH THAT.

Dustin Payne: He reminds me so much of Fikshun. If it can be arranged for them to dance together sometime, that’d be great. Tbh I didn’t feel it was as original as the judges raved about, but I still really enjoyed his performance.

So that blue haired girl in the preview for next episode? I already decided she’s my new favorite.
