#James Burley ~ Agent X

Next Wave... to talk about these guys I have to talk about something I’ve kinda been avoiding talking about. In 1992, a chunk of “rock star” comic book creators all decided to leave the publishers of the time and strike out and form their own company, which lead to the creation of Image comics.
I’ll be real, they very much were in the right in a lot of things, the big 2 were kinda awful about creators rights around this time, and things did need to be changed... but this also lead to a pretty dark time for comics in general... but that is a story for another time.
The important thing is that Next Wave here is very much Mackie cracking fun at the creatives who left Marvel behind. Agent-X is very much supposed to be Jim Lee, with the use of an X name and his ninja swords. Snare is Todd McFarlane with his web lines, red and blue costume, and big white eyes. Finally Turk is Rob Liefeld, a kinda slow guy who is huge and muscle bound, covered with pouches, and obsessed with big guns and even bigger explosions....
Is this a little petty? Sure... but it is kinda funny too...

So this is 100% poking fun at the creators that Next Wave is based on (Todd, Jim, and Rob) but this is also our first look at Fin who will stick around for pretty much the rest of the book.

Man that's big of Battle Star, I 100% am not sure I'd risk my life to save someone who had just constantly been a monstrous bigot to me...

So Next Wave was always meant to be a joke at the people who left Marvel to go create Image... and it was all kinda on the nose... but that last panel there is almost TOO on the nose...
