MÀIRI E. NICLEÒID (MÀIRI E. MACLEOD)

AN INTRODUCTION TO GAELIC PROSE

Màiri belongs to Skye, where she is a Gaelic teacher by day and an award-winning writer. An exponent of both the contemporary Gaelic novel and Gaelic short story, Màiri’s writing for page and stage has earned her repeated accolades at consecutive Royal National Mòds. Her writings include novels Saoghal Eile (Sandstone Press, 2017), An Nathair le Dà Shùil (Acair, 2018) alongside a collection of short stories, A’ Ghlainne agus Sgeulachdan Eile (Clàr, 2010), which launched her onto the Gaelic literary scene. In this session, Màiri will introduce us to a few her inspirations, her creative process as well as key tips and suggestions for writers developing prose works, whatever their language.

In the spirit of the UNESCO decade of Indigenous Languages and continuing with the Federation’s ongoing work in support of the Gaelic and Scots literatures, we are proud to announce a unique series events celebrating Gaelic writing and creativity across genres.

Delivered through the medium of English, to foster awareness and understanding of Gaelic and its rich and diverse literature, the events will serve to introduce members to a number of genres within this thriving literary scene through a number of their key exponents.

Known for our ongoing support of women’s writing the committee is proud to deliver these events with an all-women line-up, with our Gaelic Co-Ordinator, Marcas Mac an Tuairneir, in the chair. Each event will take place on Zoom - just click the far less cumbersome tinyurl.com/FWSGaelic - and will be broadcasted and archived for additional access on YouTube, meaning wherever you are, you can take part. Each session will include informal discussion with the writer, readings and screenings and a Q&A session.

We are grateful for the support of an anonymous benefactor, whose donation in support of our work with Gaelic has made these events possible. We encourage members to donate on a pay-what-you can basis to the Federation, so we can continue to offer such events.
