Scaling Back on Brassy Pomp, OpCarolina Brings Us a More Classic and Elegant Aïda
Scaling Back on Brassy Pomp, OpCarolina Brings Us a More Classic and Elegant Aïda
Review: Opera Carolina Presents Aïda By Perry Tannenbaum April 7, 2022, Charlotte, NC – Premiered in Egypt in late 1871 and brought home to Milan less than two months later, Giuseppe Verdi’s Aïda has become synonymous with all that’s grandiose and spectacular in grand opera. Opera Carolina has now produced this signature work nine times since its founding in 1948, only once allowing more than a…

If you were to ask me about ‘Hitch’ this would be the most likely scene that would come to mind...
-
-
-
-
-
-
(Hopefully by this point you’ve finished all 118 minutes of ‘Hitch’, the kind of person who isn’t bothered by spoilers, or are just deciding if you still want to keep watching.)

-
...or the epilogue (dance off!)
PS: Still...as good as advice this was...I’m still liking what was in ‘Moxie’. Sean doesn’t ‘hold’ or ‘go 90′ while they were in the casket...but he instead gives Vivian the message when there is ample room between them (and bonus: he shares how he’s feeling).

HIGHLIGHT:
EXT. SIDEWALK - DAY
HITCH and ALBERT are on their way to ALBERT's house. HITCH is holding a copy of The New York Post with the photo with Albert and Allegra.
HITCH
I need you to tell me how this happened.
ALBERT
What? There were some photographers.
HITCH shows him the front page.
HITCH
Look, does this even look like dancin' to you?
ALBERT gives it a good look.
ALBERT
That's just a little bit of me bein' me.
A slight strut from the accountant. Proud of what he's achieved.
HITCH
No, Albert, that's you bein' a lot of bit of somethin' you don't need to even be again.
ALBERT
What? It's just one dance.
HITCH
No.
HITCH turns to him. They are now at the stoop of ALBERT's home.
HITCH
One dance, one look, one kiss. That's all we get, Albert. Just one shot to make a difference between happily ever after and: 'Oh, he's just some guy I went to some thing with once.'
He lets this sit.
HITCH
All right?
HITCH is about to go on his way but turns back and sees ALBERT standing there, worried.
HITCH
What?
ALBERT
You...You said 'kiss'.
HITCH walks back towards him.
HITCH
Is that a problem?
ALBERT
It's not...
He sighs
ALBERT
It's not a problem...but I don't know, this is Allegra Cole.
HITCH
Albert, Eight out of 10 women believe that the first kiss will tell them everything that they need to know about a relationship. And believe me, she has definetely thought about it.
ALBERT's eyebrows shoot up.
ALBERT
She has?
HITCH
Oh, of course. I mean, not that she's gonna act on it. So it's no real big deal.
ALBERT
All right, well, it's no big deal then.
HITCH
(shrill)
It's a very big deal, Albert!
ALBERT
Huge.
HITCH
Monumental! You are not listening...
HITCH sighs and puts a hand on ALBERT's shoulder.
HITCH
I need you to wrap your head around this: Tomorrow night, Allegra Cole could have her last first kiss
ALBERT blinks, takes out his nebulizer, and inhales.
HITCH smiles and can't help but be amused.
HITCH
All right, come on, uh, just, uh, show me what you got.
ALBERT
What do you...What do you mean?
HITCH
Just show me how you would kiss me.
ALBERT blinks.
ALBERT
Well, I wouldn't kiss you.
HITCH
I'm not me. I'm Allegra.
ALBERT blinks a couple of times more. He looks at HITCH closely and smiles weakly. It's kind of difficult to picture him as someone else.
ALBERT
But you're really not, so...
HITCH
Okay, Albert, end of the night, you're droppin' me off at home.
HITCH looks at the front door then at ALBERT.
HITCH
Show me the magic.
ALBERT looks around.
ALBERT
You know, I'm not comfortable with this.
HITCH grabs ALBERT's hand.
HITCH
God, Albert...
He's Allegra now.
HITCH
I had such a wonderful time with you.
ALBERT
Oh, Geez.
Arms playfully swinging. Just like when a date goes well. They walk up the steps.
EXT. ALBERT'S HOME (FRONT DOOR) - CONTINUOUS
ALBERT
Yeah, how about those Knicks, huh?
HITCH uses his other hand to reach into his pocket.
HITCH
You see what I'm doin'? All right.
He glances at ALBERT.
HITCH
This is a signal, okay?
The keys jangle in his hand.
HITCH
I'm fiddlin' with my keys. All right, a woman that doesn't want a kiss takes her keys out, puts them in the door, goes in the house. A woman that wants to kiss, she fiddles.
The keys are up now. More jangling.
HITCH
I'm fiddlin'.
ALBERT
Okay, you have a good night now...
He starts to walk down the steps but HITCH stops him and pushes him against the doorway, inches away from ALBERT.
HITCH
You see what I'm doin'?
ALBERT
Robbin' me?
HITCH
No. See, this is what most guys do. They rush in to take the kiss. But you're not most guys. See, the secret to a kiss is to go 90% of the way...
HITCH leans in closer.
HITCH
...and then hold.
A small nod from ALBERT.
ALBERT
But, for how long?
HITCH
As long as it takes for her to come the other 10%.
HITCH smiles and nods.
ALBERT
Okay, 90-10. Got it.
A curt nod.
HITCH releases him and steps back.
HITCH
Yeah, okay, come on. Shake it off. It's your turn.
ALBERT sighs.
HITCH gives him an overexcited smile and gives his keys a shake.
HITCH
I had a really nice time tonight, Albert.
ALBERT hesitates for a moment...but...what the heck---
ALBERT
I had...a great time tonight, too, Allegra...with a beard.
HITCH just looks at him. Still playing an SNL version of Allegra.
ALBERT nods.
HITCH nods.
ALBERT sighs and takes a few more steps closer.
Slight hesitation, then he leans in to go the first 90%.
HITCH just stands there. Amused and bursting to see what this guy would do next.
ALBERT gives him a nod. HITCH shrugs. He's not sold.
ALBERT inches closer leans in, eyes closed, and lips puckered. Now it looks like he's done the 90%.
ALBERT opens his eyes. HITCH still isn't sold.
ALBERT
What's up?
HITCH shakes his head.
HITCH
I'm not feelin' it.
ALBERT
What do you mean? I...I came 90.
HITCH
I'm just, I'm not feelin' like you want it.
ALBERT is starting to lose his patience on this exercise.
HITCH
Look, I'm Allegra Cole, the woman of your dreams.
This seems to have an effect on ALBERT, his eyes gloss over.
HITCH
The woman who's green eyes are limpid pools of desire. Now, show me the magic, Albert. Show me the magic...
ALBERT closes in the rest of the 10. HITCH recoils.
HITCH
What the hell was that?
ALBERT
I'm showing you the magic!
HITCH
(livid)
No, I said come 90 and then I come 10! You don't go the whole 100! My mouth was open, Albert.
ALBERT
Oh.
HITCH walks down the steps.
HITCH
You overeager son of a...
HITCH hocks and wipes off his mouth.
ALBERT
Other than that, how was it?
He chases after HITCH.

It would be great to get every single player together. I’ve spoken to Ronaldo but it’s the Champions League final the day before. Who knows. There’s a reason I can’t say 100 per cent who everyone is going to be there. But most of them will be there.

Quelques textes à propos du travail de WE ARE THE PAINTERS :
-
We Are The Painters
Extrait du texte d’exposition "Come To Us” à la Villa Arson // École nationale supérieure d'art - Centre…
- We Are The Painters
par Pedro Morais
“Whisper to the Landscape”, 40mcube, Rennes, 11.02 — 28.04.2018

Opera Carolina Finds New Balance in Mozart’s Don Giovanni
Opera Carolina Finds New Balance in Mozart’s Don Giovanni
Review: Don Giovanni at Belk Theater  By Perry Tannenbaum February 3, 2022, Charlotte, NC – Among the lovable scoundrels of Western world literature, surely Don Juan has proven to be the most lovable – Molière, Goldoni, Lord Byron, Shaw, and Mozart are just a few of the notables who have sung the Spanish Don’s sins over the past 400 years. His tale can be seen as a series picaresque escapades…
