Ford Mustang Cobra Turbo, 1979. The third generation Mustang came with a turbocharged 2.3 litre 4 cylinder engine that produced 132bhp. It was available with TRX suspension designed around Michelin's super-low-profile TRX tyres, mounted on special alloy wheels. The system included a front roll bar, a bigger rear bar, and special spring and shock rates.

Day 17 Several photographic perspectives on a cruise ship
I woke up this morning and as usual looked out the balcony windows, and did a double take, A huge cruise liner backing in to dock! According to some people I randomly spoke to later in the day, there were two yesterday, but I missed them as I was out of town. Today's plan was to collect my tiles and then there was no plan. I was going to have dinner with Rosie (of Halifax) tonight, but she wasn't feeling well, so we've delayed until tomorrow night.
I decided to go to the Marina to see if I could catch the water taxi across to Ferragudo with no expectations, as there wasn't much info online. Their last post in February saying they were back from their Christmas break. So for a start, I confidently headed in the wrong direction! Luckily I asked a lovely looking man early, as it was heating up outside. Once I got to the point I realised I had to ring to book. The man on the other end of the phone said "it is a taxi!" I'm sure he was thinking "stupid tourist!"
It was a pleasant crossing to Ferragudo (€9 return) and I was warmly met by the lovely Carla, the tile painting teacher. We had a brief chat about her upcoming holiday to Shanghai, she shared more food recommendations with me, gave me a hug and I was on my way.
While I waited for the return ferry I caught a glimpse of the life of the local fishermen. It was fascinating watching their weathered bodies. The men who caught the fish left their small vessel soon after docking and different men then pulled the nets off the boat and untangled the fish. I have no doubt some of that fish would be served locally, the coals were burning on BBQs nearby.
Given the water taxi could drop me off closer to town, my plan was then to try the old world, charming looking, Casa da Isabella for their traditional Portuguese cakes, but sadly they were closed (they were open yesterday, hmmm). I then diverted to find a dress shop I'd been in a few days ago, as I'd noticed a pleated tule skirt that I wanted to try on. And sold!
I then decided an early lunch would be good and went to the highly recommended Churrasqueira Guerreiro for piri piri chicken, but they are still closed for the holidays, omg! Ok, next stop Aqua Mall for the café in the supermarket, which is a thing here. And I wasn't disappointed, I had a pretty delicious amount of smoked salmon in a grain roll and a pastel de nata tarte for €5.19! And then another stop at the discounted section of that supermarket, damn they've run out of the dark chocolate brown rice cakes, so I purchased the dark chocolate oat rice cakes, €1 for 8 in each packet. They're quite addictive.
I spent the next hour or so finding a top and earrings to go with my new tule skirt and pending the weather I may wear it on my date with Rosie tomorrow night or save it for the Michelin star restaurant I've booked in a couple of weeks. The weather is quite warm during the day, ie I felt sweat running down my legs waiting for the water taxi at 10.15am, but then I just had the heaters on!
I've given up on decent coffee in Portimaõ. The best I can do to replicate a latte in Australia is to ask for a cappuccino with no chocolate at 67° and then I even forget my own instructions!
After getting the opening hours of the mercado wrong, I head to Crystal's recommended hairdresser. Crystal was the American woman I met with Brenda last week at The Chicken Tavern. Giselle can fit me in on 4th May and a regrowth is just €29.
Back to the gym, booked into Ricardo's TRX class, but Ricardo is not there, damn that. I will get that photo soon.
I've finished Scoop, now onto The Beautiful Game.
Tomorrow I have my much needed third Portuguese lesson in Alvor. Just to properly pronounce the names of each village in the Algarve would be helpful! Apparently learning new skills is useful as we age. I'm thinking maybe I'll find a language school in Brisbane. After Carla reminded me today that Macau used to be under Portuguese administration until 1999, I googled where Portuguese is spoken and some of these places are on my list....Portuguese is currently the fifth most spoken language in the world and an official language of Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor. It is also used in Macau and in Goa.
Talking about new skills and thrills, I've booked a sea kayak experience next Tuesday at 7am with Filipe Tidy to go into the Benagil Caves. He was another recommendation off a FB post. The woman said her kayak flipped and she lost her phone into the ocean. That's not exactly the experience I'm paying for. I did have some text banter with Filipe today and he thinks, given they are double kayaks "probably you join me". And he said "until now everyone survived" and then he said "I am lifeguard so you lucky". I responded with "I'll probably die from a heart attack first after all the bread and cheese and oil I've eaten".

"Probablemente no recuerdes que la primera TRX fue una Dodge Dakota" ¡Interesante! Me topé con un artículo detallando la Dodge Ram 1500 TRX y su sorprendente historia. Aunque ahora se lo conoce como un monstruo todoterreno que engulle a Raptors en el desayuno, ¿sabías que el primer TRX de la historia no fue un todoterreno en absoluto, sino una minivan? Verdad, ¡una minivan! #CarrerasAutomovilísticas En la década de 1980, las camionetas Dodge estaban en auge. Pero en lugar de poner el TRX en un vehículo de alta gama, Dodge decidió ponerlo en sus minivans. El TRX se puso por primera vez en la Dodge Caravan y Plymouth Voyager de 1987 con ruedas de 15 pulgadas. Eran ruedas radiales de alto rendimiento para su época, y Dodge incluso las vendía como un accesorio para mejorar las minivans más antiguas. Eso es lo que yo llamaría 'características interesantes'. Lo curioso de esta historia es que la designación TRX no tenía nada que ver con capacidad off-road, sino que se refería a una medida de los neumáticos del vehículo. BMW M5 E28 
The M5 has an in-line six-cylinder engine with a four-valve-per-cylinder head. This brought the power up to 285 horsepower, a quite respectable figure. The set was finished off by the use of exclusive Michelin TRX tires, in sizes that seemed fair for the weight and power of the car, but which, in practice, were perfectly adequate. On fast roads or, better, on circuits test, the effectiveness of the M5 was manifested in perfect lines where the balanced weight distribution guided the four wheels exactly where the driver commanded.

1984 Ferrari 512 BBi Coupé
Cuando se lanzó el Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer en 1973, marcó una revolución para el legendario fabricante de automóviles italiano.
El diseño de Pininfarina eliminó las formas suaves y sinuosas por las que se conocía a Ferrari, y fue el primer automóvil con motor central en llevar la insignia del Cavallino Rampante. La forma final del BB sería el 512 BBi de 1984, con solo 144 fabricados, lo que lo convierte en el modelo más buscado de la serie.
Este 512 BBi es uno de los mejores ejemplos del mercado, con una restauración completamente documentada a un costo de más de $275,000 y poco más de 7,000 millas en el odómetro. El automóvil tiene sus ruedas de montaje central originales y neumáticos Michelin TRX, junto con la documentación original de importación de EE.UU., lo que lo convierte en un excelente ejemplo del final del comienzo de una nueva era en Ferrari.

Três maneiras diferentes de ser… Renault 5 Turbo!

Com um passado glorioso nos ralis, a dinastia “Renault 5 Turbo” colecionou momentos especiais, mas nem todos se concentraram na mesma versão. “Cévennes”, “Tour de Course” e “Maxi Turbo” escreveram páginas diferentes, mas igualmente importantes na história dos ralis. Como distinguir as três versões que celebrizaram o R5 Turbo? A resposta nas linhas que se seguem…

Renault 5 Turbo “Cévennes”
A primeira versão de competição do Renault 5 Turbo chamava-se “Cévennes”, em memória ao segundo lugar conquistado no Rally Cévennes de 1980, pela dupla Jean Ragnotti-Jean Marc Andrié. Não foi a estreia do carro, mas sim o seu primeiro resultado de relevo, que permitiu à Renault Sport ter a certeza de dispor um carro competitivo para os clientes que nele apostassem.

Na prática, este foi o segundo R5 Turbo (uma vez que os primeiros, denominados apenas “Renault 5 Turbo”, se baseavam ainda nos protótipos desenvolvidos pela Renault Sport), mas o primeiro a fazer história.

Tratando-se da primeira evolução-cliente de competição, o modelo inscrito em Grupo 4, podia ser vendido “chave na mão” pela fábrica de Dieppe ou poderia ser adquirido com a instalação de um kit de competição específico e desenvolvido de acordo com as necessidades do automóvel para os ralis, ao longo de 300 horas de trabalho.

Entre os seus trunfos, estava o motor turbo de 1397 cm3 (ou seja, 2 litros de cilindrada depois de feita conversão da taxa de 1.4 de sobrealimentação), capaz de debitar 185 cv (mais 25 cv que a versão de série) e 280 Nm de binário, transmitidos às rodas traseiras. Números muito respeitáveis… há 40 anos!

O “Cévennes” esteve no ativo entre 1980 e 1982 e, no seu palmarés desportivo, deixou registada a primeira vitória da Renault no Campeonato do Mundo de Ralis, mais precisamente no Rali de Monte Carlo de 1981, com Jean Ragnotti e Jean-Marc Andrié. Mas do seu palmarés, consta também o segundo triunfo do modelo na Volta à Córsega de 1982, novamente com a dupla Ragnotti/Andrié, mas aí já com uma versão mais evoluída do Renault 5 Turbo (ainda inscrita em Grupo 4), denominada “Cévennes 2”.

A par destes momentos altos no WRC, nos seus três anos de atividade, o “Cévennes” conquistou também a glória em inúmeras provas de campeonatos nacionais, uma boa parte em França.

Renault 5 Turbo “Tour de Corse”
Após a vitória na Volta à Córsega de 1982, a Renault Sport queria oferecer aos seus clientes a possibilidade de tirarem todo o partido das especificações dos carros oficiais, tal como já tinha acontecido com a versão “Cévennes”. O Renault 5 Turbo “Tour de Corse” é materialização dessa vontade, passando também a responder às novas exigências da FISA (Federação Internacional do Desporto Automóvel) e da criação do então novo “Grupo B”.

Mantendo a sua política de clientes, e tal como acontecia com o “Cévennes”, a Renault Sport vendia o “Tour de Corse” em regime “chave na mão” ou através de um kit de adaptação das unidades de série. Na prática, das 20 unidades produzidas, apenas oito foram criadas de raiz, com 12 a serem conversões de unidades “Cévennes”.

Numa fase posterior, o “Tour de Corse” também pôde servir de base para a conversão na versão “Maxi Turbo”, conforme as especificações do automóvel da equipa oficial.

Antes disso, o modelo esteve no ativo entre 1983 e 1986 (foi o Renault 5 Turbo de competição com maior longevidade competitiva), conquistando a sua coroa de louros mais brilhante, na célebre, mas dramática vitória do Rali de Portugal de 1986, pelas mãos da equipa portuguesa Renault Galp e da dupla Joaquim Moutinho e Edgar Fortes.

Renault 5 MAXI TURBO
Homologado pela FISA em dezembro de 1984, o Renault 5 Maxi Turbo assumiu-se, em 1985 e 1986, como a resposta da Renault à escalada de evolução dos veículos de Grupo B no Campeonato do Mundo de Ralis.

Na verdade, o salto face ao “Tour de Corse” foi enorme, tendo a Renault Sport colocado todos os esforços no fabrico daquele que se tornaria o mais potente e eficiente carro de duas rodas motrizes da geração dos “Super Grupo B”.

Desenvolvido a partir do seu antecessor, o “Maxi” concentrava grande parte da sua evolução no motor, que viu a sua cilindrada aumentada para 1.527 cm3 (correspondente, na prática, a 2.138 cm3) e atingir níveis de potência nunca antes alcançados pelo modelo, e que se cifravam então nos 350 cv para apenas 905 kg de peso! Mas tão importante quanto a subida de potência, era a forma como ela passou a ser entregue, sendo muito mais reduzido o tempo de resposta do turbo, com claras vantagens na facilidade de condução.

A otimização da suspensão e das vias dianteiras e traseiras, que foram alargadas, permitiram pneus mais largos e superior motricidade, algo para o qual as evoluções no capítulo aerodinâmico também tiveram um papel decisivo. Esta área foi especialmente bem explorada, merecendo toda a atenção dos engenheiros da Renault Sport, que aplicaram ao Renault 5 Maxi Turbo generosos apêndices aerodinâmicos à frente e atrás, trabalhados em túnel de vento, conferindo-lhe um “look” tão espetacular como eficiente a “colar” o automóvel ao chão.

Contudo, apesar de se mostrar muito competitivo nos ralis de asfalto, a falta de quatro rodas motrizes, penalizava sobremaneira a competitividade do “Maxi”, sobretudo, em traçados mais sinuosos. E numa altura em que as viaturas de tração integral se tornavam a referência e eram praticamente imbatíveis, nem isso impediu que a versão “state-of-art” do Renault 5 Turbo se demarcasse nalgumas provas, chegando mesmo a vencer a Volta à Córsega de 1985, quando Jean Ragnotti e Pierre Thimonier, com o Renault 5 Maxi Turbo da equipa oficial “Renault Elf Phillips”, levaram de vencidas as estruturas oficiais da Lancia, Audi e Peugeot.

Fora do WRC, o palmarés do Maxi Turbo também é impressionante com  com pilotos de renome como o próprio Ragnotti, Carlos Sainz e François Chatriot a somarem, juntos, 14 triunfos, na versão que, para todos os efeitos, marcou a apoteose do Renault 5 Turbo, verdadeiro ícone dos ralis.

Os heróis do volante
Para além de Jean Ragnotti, como piloto oficial, muitos outros nomes consagrados dos ralis, aproveitaram as potencialidades do Renault 5 Turbo (nas suas três versões) para aprumarem as suas qualidades de pilotos. Entre eles, destaque para nomes que são hoje incontornáveis na história do WRC e no panorama dos ralis internacionais como Carlos Sainz (11 vitórias), Bruno Saby (7 vitórias), Jean-Luc Thérier (5 vitórias), Didier Auriol (5 pódios) e Guy Fréquelin (que nunca venceu com o R5 Turbo, mas fez a sua estreia nos ralis).

Com menos palmarés, mas nem por isso sem darem o seu contributo para a elevação do Renault 5 Turbo, pilotos como Alain Serpaggi (o que mais quilómetros de desenvolvimento fez no R5 Turbo), François Chatriot, Joaquim Moutinho, Dany Snobeck ou “Leonidas” tiveram também, definitivamente, as suas carreiras marcadas pelo “irreverente”, e hoje nostálgico, modelo da Renault.

Sun had been scheduled to dine with Buffett on July 25 at the Michelin-starred Quince restaurant in San Francisco right after he won an auction to gain Glide, a charity in the city.

Another Crypto Bigshot Roped In For Buffett Lunch
Self-proclaimed ‘cryptocurrency influencer’ Justin Sun, has invited Circle CEO, Jeremy Allaire, to his $4.6 million charity lunch with Warren Buffett. Allaire will join Litecoin creator, Charlie Lee, and the Tron supremo in trying to sell notorious Bitcoin-sceptic Buffett on cryptocurrency.
Sun Preparing For His Time In The Sun
You may be forgiven for thinking that the Tron founder has been a bit quiet of late (assuming you don’t follow his Twitter feed).
Sun excitedly announced to the world that he’d spent $4.6 million to secure a lunch date with the ‘legendary’ investor in early June. A week later he was pledging to take ‘all the leaders‘ from the cryptocurrency world along for the ride. Sun gets to take up to seven guests, which many were thankful for as it would take a few more ‘thinkers’ apart from himself to sell Buffet the ‘cryptocurrency idea’.
In mid-June, Justin announced Litecoin founder Charlie Lee as his first guest. Then nothing for a month and the lunch date is now only a week away.
Perhaps he’s been trying to downplay the fact that police raided Tron’s offices over alleged ties to a Ponzi scheme. You can imagine how well that’ll go down with Buffett.
Crypto-Stalwart (And Good Friend), Jeremy Allaire
Yesterday, Sun tweeted (what else) that he was inviting his ‘good friend’ and CEO of Circle, Jeremy Allaire. Being such a ‘good friend’, Allaire graciously accepted.

Allaire is just the sort of industry leader that Sun needs to convince Buffett of the merits of cryptocurrency. Circle is notably backed by Goldman Sachs, which is just the type of corporation that Buffett will respect. Allaire has also been vocal in calling for a unified global approach to cryptocurrency regulation, warning that restrictive US policy is ‘chilling innovation‘.
However, Mr. Sun had better get his skates on if he is to fill those last five places. The lunch is scheduled for 25 July at San Francisco’s Michelin-starred Quince. So he has less than a week to get more industry leaders on board.
Thus far though he has shown a great sensibility in his picks. Both Lee and Allaire are respected industry professionals, with the gravitas to present a coherent argument in fighting crypto’s corner. If his other guest choices follow the same pattern then Sun might actually succeed in converting Buffett, proving that he isn’t just a TRX & BTT Shiller after all.

U modelu Fuego nebyl pro označování poprvé použit systém číslic následujících za písmenem R a při propagaci těchto vozů byl kladen důraz na jejich mezinárodní charakter a dynamičnost. Jejich design vynikal originalitou a snažil se evokovat rychlost, dlouhé dveře usnadňovaly přístup cestujících k zadním sedadlům.

Renault Fuego si chtěl získat všechny části veřejnosti bez ohledu na různé finanční možnosti jednotlivých segmentů, a proto byla tato řada tak široká, a to od základní verze TL až po model Turbo a zahrnovala různá provedení jako GTL, TS, GTS, TX a GTX.
Fuego bylo nabízeno s motorem o objemu od 1 400 až do 2 000 cm3 a nechybělo ani provedení Turbo Diesel. Vlajkovou lodí byl model GTS, kterého bylo za pět let vyrobeno nejvíce z celkového počtu 226 000 automobilů Renault Fuego.

Renault Fuego z roku 1982 dodnes drží některá zajímavá technická prvenství. Byl prvním automobilem s centrálním zamykáním a jako první ze všech měl také ovládací prvky audiosystému umístěné na volantu.
