Persona 3 - Prince Hypnos AU

Our world is not the only world that exists.

There is another one, just next door to ours, completely unreachable and not far away. This world has never known the sun. It has only ever seen the moon in its many phases and the stars that adorned the sky. The Midnight World.

In the middle of this world, there is a tower. A tower so tall it seemed one could caress the moon from its peak.

At the top, lived a certain family of Shadows. The most powerful of them all.

The ‘Mother’, Nyx, tall and spider-like with deep, hollowed out eyes, harnessed the power of the night.

The ‘Father’, Erebus, a beastly creature with two skull-heads and black clouds spilling from their mouths, wielding the power of darkness.

And their two twin ‘children’, the closest thing to humans in that world.

Thanatos, light-hearted and lively with bright blue eyes, the bringer of death, and his beloved twin brother Hypnos with glowing red eyes, quiet but possessing a voice that could lull any creature to sleep, the personification of slumber.

Atop the tower, this ‘family’ lived contently. The two brothers played together, sang together, stargazed together, tussled together and explored the upper floors of the tower together. They were happy.

But one day, everything changed.

One day, their mother and father started acting strangely.

They would look to the sky and say strange things. “Can you hear them?” “They call to us.” “They wish for us.”

“They yearn for Death.”

The wishes of these voices from the world-next-door became an obsession for them. Queen Nyx and King Erebus yearned to grant their wish, to bring death to them.

That was when they used their power to create the Dark Hour. A single hour where the Midnight World would superimpose with the human world, trapping them in a temporary stasis and allowing traversal to the other world.

But it wasn’t enough.

It wasn’t enough to grant the wishes of the humans who yearned for death. They needed more power. A special power.

They needed Thanatos.

Nyx and Erebus demanded their son give them his power. The power to bring the end of that world.

Thanatos could be considered an air-head, but he was no fool. The way his mother and father were acting was abnormal and frightening, so he refused.

They flew into a rage, furious that their son would defy them, and tried to take his power by force, almost killing him in the process. But one thing prevented them from succeeding.

Hypnos managed to get between his brother and his parents, but no amount of reasoning or pleading would sway them. They fully intended to murder their children in order to bring the Fall to the human world.

Hypnos knew that he had no power to stand against the Queen of Night and the King of Darkness. So he did the only thing he could.

He gathered Thanatos’ possessions; the sword with the serrated ricasso, the helmet shaped like the skull of a primordial beast and the coffin lids that acted as his shields, sealed his brothers dwindling soul within himself and fled.

Through the bleak halls and many stairs they chased him, screaming, shrieking and howling, demanding until they cornered him on an open balcony.

Cornered, afraid and desperate to save his brother, Hypnos had no choice but to throw himself off the tower and fall miles to the lowest levels. There he hid, his mother and father unable to follow him past the blocked stairs and the lower shadows fearful of him.

For ten whole years, he wandered the halls, carrying his brothers soul and belongings. Every night, he would watch the glittering night sky turn a sickly green and see the the human world melt into existence, and every night he would hope that one day he would find a way to take a stand against his mother and father, end the Fall and save his only brother.

He never imagined that his chance would come in the form of a group of humans who could perceive the Dark Hour.

Random trivia/detail of au p4?

The reason Ryoji and Minato have middle names while their kids don’t is because they gave eachother their middle names during ‘family bonding therapy time’.

Like IRL bats, baby Azule/Azure clung to his parents chest. Normally Dada-Hypnos thanks to his fluffy feather crest/chest.

Speaking of that, Azule/Azure Beast/true form is the size of a small cat once fully grown so He has gotten to keep the habit of clinging to both his parents and sometimes his older brothers.

While Hypnos/Minato’s crown fits him, Azule/Azure’s Crown is lopsided when in his human form. Grampa Chaos wonders how that over sight happened(the answer is Hypnos thought it was cute when Azule/Azure was a hatchling so made it permanently oversized)

You would think Azule/Azure being Hypnos’ heir means that he is his favorite kid but no, Hypnos‘ favorite offspring is Quaint.

Afxisi is the only Ryomina Kid who can’t fly/doesn’t have wings. He finds the fact he does still have feathers is rubbing salt to the insult.

Afxisi and Ryoji are the only ones out of the 5 to look their ages. Quaint is still growing out of his lanky teen stage, Azule/Azure simply is between young kid to teenager body, and Mint is short so even as an Adult is mistaken for a teenager.

To make it clear, when I say Mint was the runt of his litter, I do literally mean he was the runt of the litter

Mint prefers to not be human so is normally in his fox, True, or ‘Prince’(antro/were) forms. The only times he is willingly in human form is when he is ether hiding inplainsight/tricking enemies or he is in need of Hands(even then its a last resort if chaos powers won’t work)

Even though Both are male and Hypnos acts the most motherly, its Thanatos that is most often labeled mommy by their kids(the argument being that he is the one who likes dresses more)

But seriously, Hypnos is a smother. If anything freaks him, Thanatos, or any of their family members out they get suffocated with fur and feathers (unless they’re bigger then Hypno)

Genetics! barely there but something to note is the Nyx/Chaos family carry a Recessive blond hair gene. This is how/why Quaint is platnum blond. Aunt friendship is also blond but she dyes her hair.

Afxsis actually acts as his grandparents’ secretary. He wanted to help and with him not being elgable to inherit ether of the crowns he just started hangout with Grandma-Nyx and Grandpa-Chaos

While he does love his parents, Afxsis wishes they were more emotionally and behaviorally mature, and wonders how he could have come from the Twins. If he goes too far or it becomes too much for Afxsis Thanatos pulls him aside to remind him that he is what Hypnos would have been like if not for Mint’s trama.

Mint doesn’t tend to wear shoes when in the family/clan? Town thing

Ryoji in Hypnos au and wheres Minako/Hamuko?

Starting with Ryoji. Still Death, Still Minato’s twin brother, and the 12 full moon shadows still happen. The only slight change is now theres a reason that Mints A-ok having Death sealed within him. Now to the actual changes.

1. Pharos appears from the start so Minato is already friends with him from the start.

2. Minato and Pharos believe each other to be brothers but when Pharos regains all his memories he thinks it was only the fact he was sealed with in minato that lead to the close bond, thus amnesiac Ryoji still happens.

3. During his time as no memory Ryoji, he has minor fainting/weak spells due to you know not eating people.

4. When he gets his memory back he basically goes ‘ya Mint is Hypnos’ and just continues going to school.

5. Wheres Nyx you ask, why the reason she was going to do The Fall was to find Hypnos, With Hypnos being found (mostly)perfectly safe she just goes back to sleep.

6. Ryoji can call upon any of the twelve shadows to uses their powers and the masks appear on his face, he can also place the masks on others putting them under his control.

7. Now you may choose to ignore this one if you like/if it’s uncomfortable to you, Ryoji x Minato, if you scream incest just think ‘Greek mythology, Greek mythology’. But ya if you want to, just pretend they are simply close brothers.

8. Pharos is still Ryoji’s low power mode but he’s able to change his human form at will.

Now then on to the other one. This will be explained differently. So starting off, Yes she is in this AU...Kinda. See I wasn’t sure how to go about her character. I knocked ideas around for a bit and eventually went with this one. I split her in 2/ There are 2 of her.

They are Philotes and Keres(yes I will get to that). I haven’t chosen which has which human name so I will edit this when/if I do. Now they are Identical twins, with Keres being slightly shorter but you really can’t tell if they’re not standing side to side.

Philotes is the personification of Friendship and Affection, While Keres is violent death. All 4(Mint,Ryoji, Philotes, Keres) are Quadruplets. Mint and Ryoji from one egg, the girls in the other.(Nyx laid 2 eggs). P is the friendly, outgoing Minako while K is the tough,strong head, and snippety Minako. P is romantic involved with Akinari Kamiki(the Sun link) and K is with ether Akihiko, Shinjiro, or Aigis(have yet to settle on one).

Finally the bit about Keres. For those who don’t know Keres actually is a group of sisters that are all The keres. In this au it’s simple K has younger sisters that work under her, thats it. And K works under Ryoji as He is death.

Edit/Update- Keres is Kotone and Philotes Hamuko. There better, and While im here they all have Mochizuki as their last name(whats up with Pre-Ryoji Minato as he doesn’t know/remember his actual last name, will be explain in a later post)
