Day 2 - Nazareth and Galilee (Tiberius)
Before this trip we expected to get some great quality sleep as it would be a week+ without a baby monitor. While quality of sleep is good, we have been going out with the group late but luckily we have some bus rides to sleep on…no regrets.
We woke up on this Shabbat morning in Tel Aviv and ate another amazing breakfast before heading out to Nazareth. Our tour guide, Noam, spoke the whole 1.5 hours and I was the only soul who didn’t sleep and asked questions. I think the guide wanted me to fall asleep so he could get a break but he was going to have to earn his pay today. Once we arrived to Nazareth we walked the old cobblestone road up to The Church of the Annunciation. We toured the Church where Catholics claim Mary received word that she was going to give birth to the son of G-d. The ruins underneath the church looked like a cave and some believe it was Mary’s childhood house. It was a gorgeous church and really meaningful to see the significance it brought to Allison. She quickly realized the amount holiness this land contains.
On our way out of Nazareth, we stopped by an all-women’s company where they grow olives and sell award winning olive oil. This significance of this place was around the women’s ability to work together when they were both Muslim Arabs and Jews. After a quick intro session we got the opportunity to make and fill jars of Zaatar which is a spice put on pita consisting of oregano, sesame, and other weird middle eastern spices I cannot pronounce.
Before heading to the hotel, I’m so glad we made a stop to the Golan Heights. While overlooking Syria and Jordan, I first noticed that the sounds of explosions that I heard there 7 years ago were not there. I know Syria government hasn’t completely ended the civil war there but hopefully the violence has slowed.
Now it was time to drive to Galilee. You don’t often hear of those who travel to Israel making a stop to Galilee but the place is incredible. We stayed at the nicest hotel in the area on the sea and ate at this restaurant on a deck over the water (it served meat, no fish). We all put ourselves into a meat coma to get ready to depart for the desert.

You threw the towel...into the ring. The bell rung, and you could feel your heart sting as Trent looked at you with shock and disbelief, as the referee raised Noam's hand. You turned back and wished you hadn't as you saw Tyler looking at you, betrayal and pain clear on his face.
"Why?"
The word was simple, but it was still enough to make you want to burst into tears. You didn't want to hurt him, you just felt it was the right thing to do. You had to protect Noam, as much as you wanted to stay neutral on both sides. You had made your choices, picked your sides, and now you had to stick with it. You couldn't turn your back on Noam when it mattered the most, you couldn't let yourself be pushed and pulled between them anymore. You had been by Noam's side for years, you couldn't turn back now.
"I'm sorry."
He didn't say another word as he moved past you, almost dark as a storm cloud as Trent embraced him, tried to explain what had happened, how he had tried to stop it as they walked away. You looked to the ring again and felt a pit start to swirl in your stomach as Noam celebrated with Sha, all loud cheers and screams at the ill-gained victory. He looked back to you and smiled, bright and cocky as ever, and you couldn't help but give a small one in return. After all, despite everything, he still had what he wanted. He was still happy. And that was enough for you, even if it was at your own sacrifice.
"What do you think we should do now, hm?"
You looked at him as he leaned out of the ring, holding the cup out for you to take. The metal was cold against your skin, but it still felt like fire as you let your thoughts swim, as you fretted over Tyler, how he was feeling. How you, one of his closest friends, stuck a knife in his back by handing the thing he held so dear off to Noam like it didn't matter.
"Celebrate, I'd guess."
His face screwed up a bit at your tone, almost dull in comparison to the brightness of the sun next to you that threatened to swallow you alive.
"Celebrate we shall, then!"
He threw an arm around you, pressed an empty kiss to the top of your head as he held the title up with another whooping yell. The crowd booed him and you let him soak it in as Sha borderline danced around the two of you, singing Noam's praises for the world to hear.
You let him cheer and yell and celebrate all throughout the arena to his new locker room and felt another pang in your chest as you saw Tyler walking away from the now-vacated space, refusing to even look at you. Noam sat the title down on the table before instructing Sha to get their bags, which the elder quickly set off after.
"So what's gotten into you, huh? So overwhelmed by my incredible victory that you can't speak?"
He looked at you with the same nonchalant gaze that he always had outside of the ring, all jokes and laughs that made you want to scream at him.
"I just...I can't help but feel bad for Tyler. After how it happened."
"Ah, forget about him. He'll have other chances, other shots, other titles. This," he pointed over at the title, before flailing his finger between the two of you, "this is ours. Our moment, our crowning glory."
"Is it?"
He dropped his hand at your statement, the atmosphere sombering as he finally realized that you were properly upset at him.
"Do you think it's not?"
"It's...it's yours. But I can't help but feel like it's just yours."
He moved from his spread on the couch to stand in front of you by the door. He reached out and took your hands, looking at you with an intensity that made your spine feel cold, that almost felt as if it was piercing into your soul itself.
"Everything that I've done is for you, you know. All of it."
"It doesn't feel like it."
You couldn't help but look away as you spoke; it almost felt like a confessional, like you were in front of some amazing and terrifying god, pouring your soul out in a way that made you weak and small compared to him.
"It feels like...everything has been for you. And Sha, to an extent. I'm almost at a point where I don't feel like any of this is mine, even you."
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
His voice was quiet, soft, and you couldn't help but feel as if it was because he was truly seeing you for the first time in over a year, seeing where you stood, how you felt.
"I just...I don't know. I thought that you were so in love with your career that I was nothing but a side thought."
"My love, how far have I fallen that you would think I love anything more than you?"
He reached up, brushing away the tears on your cheeks as his entire demeanor softened to you, as he fully shifted from the arrogant and brash man of the ring to the sweet, gentle soul you had fallen in love with so long ago.
"This? This is for us. And if you still want to be here for it, I would really like to have another chance to prove it to you."
You smiled to him, letting yourself lean fully into him, letting your body language show that you were willing to take up the offer.
"Just...stick with me this time. I don't know if I could handle losing you again."
He kissed the top of your head again, and you could almost feel the emotion he was trying to convey with the gesture. It wasn't a move of celebration, but one of intent, of outlined and telegraphed demonstration.
"I'll always be with you, as long as you let me be."

I’m on a quest friends! And this quest involves book recs, so I know y’all are gonna be happy haha. I’m still working on my 2019 book rec list, so hopefully this will put you on until then!
So, this is part of The Hanged Man release promo I’m taking part in this month, and the aim of the game is to recommend books that a Tarot Sequence fan would enjoy, and in order to do that I’m dissecting The Last Sun into tropes and then basing book recs off of those tropes. I’m focusing on LGBT inclusive books too, so every book here has some aspect of that.
Found Family/Soul bond: This is literally one of my favourite tropes of all time and it shines through (ha, sun puns) in The Last Sun. The connection between Rune and Brand is the best, as well as the one they share with Quinn, Max and Addam. The following two books excel at found family and the idea of people coming together.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I think almost everyone and their aunt has read this by now so i’ll make it snappy; Six of Crows is a great example of a group of people coming together for a reason and becoming an odd little family on the weirdest of terms. There’s also the magic element that I love in this duology, which is another reason I wanted to rec it, I think fans of the magic system in the Last Sun would potentially enjoy this too.
Crown of Feathers by Nicki PauPreto. I ALMOST put this under world building because i love the world that this book introduces. It’s very fantasy heavy and well crafted. “Crown of Feathers is an epic fantasy about love’s incredible power to save—or to destroy.” THERE ARE PHOENIXES PEOPLE. The soul bond here comes into effect between the main characters and their phoenixes who act as companions, hence the rec.
Kick Ass/Powerful Protagonist: Rune is, above all, able to kick everyone’s butt to the sun and back (no, i’m not going to stop. get used to it!) So if that’s a quality you really wanna explore more of, start with these books.
The Batwoman comic series is a great series. Lesbian badass main character and beautiful art work. I’m still new to the world of figuring out where to start with reading a series but a good place to begin with Batwoman, I’ve found, is with the new 52 run, or with the rebirth run.
The Lightning Struck Heart by T.J. Klune. Fans of The Last Sun will definitely love this one. The writing has a similar kind of humour, there’s magic AND the main character is absolutely able to kick everyone’s butt.
Dreadnaught by April Daniels. Main character is transgender and very, very powerful. Danny basically inherits superheros powers when they die in front of her, and she has to figure out how to adapt to her new life as a cape wearing crime fighting master.
Fantastic World Building: I mean, what more do I need to say? I can’t fit another pun in here though, it i-sun-t possible... >:D
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon has literally one of the best cases of world building i’ve ever experienced? It isn’t urban fantasy but it IS fantasy and there ARE dragons and really what more could a person need. What? You DO want more? Well fine. There’s also some fantastic characterisation at play, and there’s some great representation! including two women who dig women (romantically... not with a shovel).
The Abyss Surrounds Us by Emily Skrutskie. “Cas has fought pirates her entire life. But can she survive living among them?” This could have easily gone under Kick Ass Protag too, and also kind of soul bond/companion bond, but I chose to put it under here because I really liked the way the world building worked? It’s unique and interesting.
Urban Magicy Vibe: Listen, it’s a title okay. It doesn’t always have to sound epic it just has to explain things. The books under this category are here because they have main characters who aren’t heterosexual and the vibes of the stories give me similar urban magicy vibes to The Last Sun. Also, in most of these cases the sense of humour matches up quite well to the one found in The Last Sun too, so I’ve just put the summary next to them instead of a full on explanation because I’d be saying the same thing over and over again haha.
The Fever King by Victoria Lee. “In the former United States, sixteen-year-old Noam Álvaro wakes up in a hospital bed, the sole survivor of the viral magic that killed his family and made him a technopath.” Need I say more?
A Ferry of Bones and Gold by Hailey Turner. “Patrick Collins is three years into a career as a special agent for the Supernatural Operations Agency when the gods come calling to collect a soul debt he owes them.” (I really, really like the front cover on this one. I know that’s random, but it’s just so pretty??)
Dim Sum Asylum by Rhys Ford. “Welcome to Dim Sum Asylum: a San Francisco where it’s a ho-hum kind of case when a cop has to chase down an enchanted two-foot-tall shrine god statue with an impressive Fu Manchu mustache that's running around Chinatown, trolling sex magic and chaos in its wake.”
Iron & Velvet by Alexis Hall. “My name’s Kate Kane, and when an eight-hundred-year-old vampire prince came to me with a case, I should have told her no. But I’ve always been a sucker for a femme fatale.” (This one is a particular favourite of mine!)
By Fairy Means or Foul by Meghan Maslow. “The last thing half-dragon, half-fairy private investigator Twig Starfig wants to do is retrieve a stolen enchanted horn from a treacherous fae, but there’s no denying the dazzlingly gorgeous unicorn who asks Twig to do just that.”
The Enchanter’s Flame by Michele Notaro. “Strange things are happening all around Brinnswick. Things that remind me of a piece of my past I’d rather forget. Girls are being killed, drained of blood, and left with strange markings on their bodies. When I finally connect the cases together, a specialist is called in—though, what he’s a specialist of is beyond me.”
Anhaga by Lisa Henry. “Aramin Decourcey—Min to his few friends—might be the best thief in Amberwich, and he might have a secret that helps him survive the cutthroat world of aristocratic families and their powerful magic users, but he does have one weakness: his affection for his adopted nephew, Harry.” Full disclosure, I haven’t read this one yet, but I’ve heard good things and it does sound like the kind of book that a Last Sun fan would enjoy (hence me wanting to read it in the first place haha).
So there we have it! I might make another of these if I can think of anything else that a fan of The Last Sun might enjoy (and for those of you who have read some of these books and enjoyed them but NOT read The Last Sun, you should do that! It’s fantastic!)

Relationships at this age are already complicated, but I don’t really like to talk about it because it’s between me and him.”
Bieber explains to GQ: “So now I’m just more so looking at the future, making sure I’m not damaging them. What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m gonna marry, right? If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it’s always gonna be damaged. It’s really hard to fix wounds like that. It’s so hard.… I just don’t want to hurt her.”

Baldwin and Bieber’s August 2016 breakup seems to have concluded in a falling out. They aren’t pictured together, don’t hang out with their mutual friends, and both unfollow each other on social media. During this time, Bieber reignites his on-again-off-again relationship with Gomez.
May 2018: Friends Again
After 2 years of not speaking—at least, to our knowledge—Baldwin and Bieber reunite…as friends. In an interview with The Times UK, Baldwin states “Justin and I were friends for a long time. I met him when I was really young and he was one of my best friends. Everybody knows that at a certain point in time that turned into something else, but that just happens when you’re 18, 19. We went through a long period of time when we weren’t friends. We didn’t speak for quite some time and there was a lot of weirdness that went on. We’ve moved past that.”
June 2018: Church Cuddles
Dating rumours begin to swirl again after the pair are spotted at church together and then a Miami club getting cuddly.

After publicly confirming her relationship with Bieber, Baldwin deletes all traces of Canadian musician Shawn Mendes from her Instagram feed. In May, the pair attended the MET Gala together and sparked romance rumours.

Jailey continue making out all over the USA, where they were spotted kissing in Washington, NYC, and in the Hamptons after experiencing some roadside car trouble.

July 7, 2018: He Puts a Ring On It
Although neither Baldwin or Bieber have yet to publicly confirm their engagement, TMZ reports that Bieber popped the question in the Bahamas on July 8. Since then, photos have surfaced of Baldwin’s massive engagement ring, which is enough of an indicator that there is, in fact, “One Less Lonely Girl.”

September 14, 2018: A Secret Wedding (?!)
Two months after their whirlwind engagement, Jailey have reportedly tied the knot. A “religious source” close to the couple confirmed to PEOPLE that on Thursday, the singer and model “went ahead and did it without listening to anyone.”
Wait… do does this mean we won’t get to gush over photographs of Baldwin in a wedding dress? Not quite: the source also confirmed to the outlet that the newlyweds will have a formal religious ceremony and celebration with friends and family. “They’re going to have a big blowout, in front of God and everyone they love.”
And, before you go rushing to conclusions about why the young love birds rushed the the altar, hear this: multiple sources have told TMZ that “100% she’s not pregnant.” I guess true love can make you do crazy things?!

I was like, Holy cow, this is what I’ve been looking for.”

September 27, 2019: The Biebers Anger Hotel Guests
The Biebers’ aren’t making any friends with this wedding, apparently. Guests at the Montage Palmetto Bluff hotel were advised that they can not use the spa, one of the main pools and a restaurant for 48 hours beginning from midday Sunday until midday Tuesday. Per TMZ, guests have been offered refunds, upgrades and free meals as a result of the inconvenience. The word “LIVID” was used. Intense.

Aretha Franklin Dies at Her Home in Detroit - Reports
Aretha Franklin, the American music legend, also known as, the Queen of Soul, has lost her fight against health problems and died at the age of 76, as reported by her representative Gwendolyn Quinn.
Music icon Aretha Franklin, famous for her immortal hits “Say a little prayer”, “Respect”, “Think” has been battling health issues for some years. As her representative Gwendolyn Quinn, specified, the soul music star died of advanced pancreatic cancer, surrounded by her family and friends at her house in Detroit.
“Franklin’s official cause of death was due to advance pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type, which was confirmed by Franklin’s oncologist, Dr. Philip Phillips from the Karmanos Cancer Institute” in Detroit.
Her family has issued a statement following her death:
“In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins knew no bounds.”

Becky Lynch on Being Challenged By Cris Cyborg, Her Storied Career, and Her Love of CrossFit

The Irish Lass-Kicker isn't one to back down.
As someone who is often credited as one of the main catalysts of WWE's women's revolution, Becky Lynch has consistently proven to be a force to be reckoned with on Smackdown Live. As a result, it should probably be no surprised that she's gained the attention of MMA fighter Cris Cyborg, who went as far as to issue an open challenge to Lynch on Twitter. Whether or not that match will happen is currently anyone's guess.
We had a chance to talk to Lynch shortly before SummerSlam to discuss Cyborg's challenge, her career, and how she stays in shape on the road.
M&F: Let's get the biggest question out of the way: How do you feel about Cris Cyborg calling you out for a match at SummerSlam?
Becky Lynch: I think it's great. I think it's great that one of the premier female athletes in the UFC and mixed martial arts today, as soon as she won her championship, called me out.
As someone who solely has a sports entertainment background, would it be intimidating to face someone more versed in like Muay Thai kickboxing? Or do you welcome that sort of challenge?
Oh, I welcome that challenge! I think it's really awesome that she is looking at our product and wanting to engage in it. I feel like people who have seen what we, as the women have done, and how we've developed the sport, and made it such a main part of the show, and something that people are so invested in, that she wants a piece of the pie. But we spend all of our time cooking the pie, so we're keeping it for ourselves. [Laughs]
You've been in sports entertainment on and off since you were 15. Why do you feel you're still in the business 15 years later? Is it crazy to look back at your career from when you started?
I'll tell you what, it's crazy to be back in. But it feels less because, I don't know if you knew this, but I actually left the business for seven years. When I left, it was because I didn't think that what we we're doing...what I'm doing now, was possible then. And this is what I wanted, and this is all I really wanted. I spent those seven years out in the wilderness, trying every little thing that I possibly could be interested in. Everything under the sun. I didn't have the passion for anything the way that it is for sports entertainment. When I came back, it was just the perfect time with the perfect group of people. I feel really blessed that things worked out the way that they did.
I imagine it was a very much a case of being at the right place at the right time, considering NXT [WWE's developmental branch] was just created.
Absolutely. Absolutely. They couldn't have been better. Coming back, having left for seven years, and trying to rebuild that confidence, and trying to find yourself and everything, I just had the perfect group of people, and the most amazing facility to do that and to grow. Then Finn Balor came in, and he's the person who trained me in the first place, and to be right there with him at the same time, it was all a little bit...almost cosmic.
I interviewed Charlotte a few weeks ago, and since you're good friends with her, I just wanted to ask you the same question I asked her: Since both of you are the same brand, you've fought in the ring many times, do you ever find it difficult to compete against a close friend? Or do you actually prefer that sort of challenge?
I prefer it, because they're...what I think is so great about us is that we're incredibly competitive. We're the best of friends, but we're also very competitive, which makes us be better, every time, no matter what we're doing. It makes us lift more, it makes us go faster when we're training. Then also, it makes us want to get the best out of each other in the ring. Yeah, well also, we're also not scared of offending each other, or hurting one another's feelings, because it's like a sisterhood.
It probably doesn't surprise you she said the same thing.

What was your reaction to the Mae Young Classic? Did you get the chance to watch any of it so far?
I was there, and it was incredible. It was so good and...I've been on the independents with a lot of those women that had made it there, and to see that they had stuck with it consistently, and that they were getting their due rewards, was amazing. It made me so happy. It made me so happy to see the crowd interaction with them. They loved it. They never tired, and they were so invested in every single one of these characters. Women just poured their heart and soul into it, and you could see how much they cared and how passionate they were. That's what we need. I keep talking about...that we need women's championships, we need a women's tournament. That is all in the sight line now, and that's all very possible. There's so many women that I saw, that I would love to be in the ring against.
I just talked to Triple H about the event, and he said it was really about giving women the opportunity to make a name for themselves that may have not had otherwise.
Yep. Absolutely. That made me really happy. Mercedes Martinez was somebody that I knew from the independents, and Nicole Matthews, who actually didn't have a match on the TV taping...she hasn't done as much, and being able to see her and perform...I actually watched her first match. So it's crazy. Just seeing the distance that people have come, and that they're getting seen. The crowd is reacting so well to them. That's what makes me happy.
I've talked to a number of superstars about how they stay in shape on the road. Some, like Charlotte and Nattie, said that they stick to a rigid schedule. Others have said that they don't really have a set routine, that they just make sure to put in the work whenever they can. So I was wondering what your approach was to this?
I do CrossFit, and I have a great trainer who programs me. He's the same trainer Seth Rollins has for Crossfit.
I was just going to say, you probably got some tips from Seth.
Yeah, so we have the same trainer, and actually what...so I'll train five, six times a week. What I love about CrossFit is that we're always on the go, right? So we're always, you know...we might be tired or we might be feeling banged up or whatever, [but] CrossFit, it always makes you push yourself. So even if you're not able to give 100% effort, you're still getting a great workout, and you're getting your heart rate up. I'm lifting what resembles what we do in the ring, so like CrossFit. At the moment we have this five-week open CrossFit workout, where all of us that do CrossFit in WWE are competing against each other. So, diet, that I always find is...that part is a little bit trickier being on the road, than when we are at home. So when I'm at home, I'm able to measure everything, and you have 3oz of chicken, and 50g of rice, and whatever it was. Now, it's a little bit trickier, but I will make sure that my diet's clean constantly. Charlotte and I will try and find meal prep places on the road. Or I'll bring a cooler bag with some meals for the first few days and then we'll go to Whole Foods and stock up on chicken, rice, vegetables. I just, kind of, try to keep it simple.

Wait… do does this mean we won’t get to gush over photographs of Baldwin in a wedding dress? Not quite: the source also confirmed to the outlet that the newlyweds will have a formal religious ceremony and celebration with friends and family. “They’re going to have a big blowout, in front of God and everyone they love.”

February 7, 2019: The Vogue Tell-All Interview
Four months later, Mr. and Mrs. Bieber appear together on the cover of Vogue‘s March 2019 issue, and in their joint interview, pull back the curtain on their holy matrimony. “The thing is, marriage is very hard,” Hailey said, “that is the sentence you should lead with. It’s really effing hard.”
The article goes on to reveal that when the pair reconnected in June, Justin was more than a year into a self-imposed tenure of celibacy, working though what he calls “a legitimate problem with sheex.”
“He doesn’t ask us not to have sex for him because he wants rules and stuff,” Justin explains. “He’s like, I’m trying to protect you from hurt and pain. I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth. Women do that, and guys do that. I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul. And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result.”
Justin and Hailey were saving themselves for marriage—and thankfully, they didn’t have to wait long. The interviewer implies that sex was one of the reasons the duo rushed to the alter back in September. The other reason? “When I saw her last June, I just forgot how much I loved her and how much I missed her and how much of a positive impact she made on my life. I was like, Holy cow, this is what I’ve been looking for.”

Four months later, Mr. and Mrs. Bieber appear together on the cover of Vogue‘s March 2019 issue, and in their joint interview, pull back the curtain on their holy matrimony. “The thing is, marriage is very hard,” Hailey said, “that is the sentence you should lead with. It’s really effing hard.”
The article goes on to reveal that when the pair reconnected in June, Justin was more than a year into a self-imposed tenure of celibacy, working though what he calls “a legitimate problem with sex.”
“He doesn’t ask us not to have sex for him because he wants rules and stuff,” Justin explains. “He’s like, I’m trying to protect you from hurt and pain. I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth. Women do that, and guys do that. I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul. And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result.”
Justin and Hailey were saving themselves for marriage—and thankfully, they didn’t have to wait long. The interviewer implies that sex was one of the reasons the duo rushed to the alter back in September. Becky Lynch on Being Challenged By Cris Cyborg, Her Storied Career, and Her Love of CrossFit

The Irish Lass-Kicker isn't one to back down.
As someone who is often credited as one of the main catalysts of WWE's women's revolution, Becky Lynch has consistently proven to be a force to be reckoned with on Smackdown Live. As a result, it should probably be no surprised that she's gained the attention of MMA fighter Cris Cyborg, who went as far as to issue an open challenge to Lynch on Twitter. Whether or not that match will happen is currently anyone's guess.
We had a chance to talk to Lynch shortly before SummerSlam to discuss Cyborg's challenge, her career, and how she stays in shape on the road.
M&F: Let's get the biggest question out of the way: How do you feel about Cris Cyborg calling you out for a match at SummerSlam?
Becky Lynch: I think it's great. I think it's great that one of the premier female athletes in the UFC and mixed martial arts today, as soon as she won her championship, called me out.
As someone who solely has a sports entertainment background, would it be intimidating to face someone more versed in like Muay Thai kickboxing? Or do you welcome that sort of challenge?
Oh, I welcome that challenge! I think it's really awesome that she is looking at our product and wanting to engage in it. I feel like people who have seen what we, as the women have done, and how we've developed the sport, and made it such a main part of the show, and something that people are so invested in, that she wants a piece of the pie. But we spend all of our time cooking the pie, so we're keeping it for ourselves. [Laughs]
You've been in sports entertainment on and off since you were 15. Why do you feel you're still in the business 15 years later? Is it crazy to look back at your career from when you started?
I'll tell you what, it's crazy to be back in. But it feels less because, I don't know if you knew this, but I actually left the business for seven years. When I left, it was because I didn't think that what we we're doing...what I'm doing now, was possible then. And this is what I wanted, and this is all I really wanted. I spent those seven years out in the wilderness, trying every little thing that I possibly could be interested in. Everything under the sun. I didn't have the passion for anything the way that it is for sports entertainment. When I came back, it was just the perfect time with the perfect group of people. I feel really blessed that things worked out the way that they did.
I imagine it was a very much a case of being at the right place at the right time, considering NXT [WWE's developmental branch] was just created.
Absolutely. Absolutely. They couldn't have been better. Coming back, having left for seven years, and trying to rebuild that confidence, and trying to find yourself and everything, I just had the perfect group of people, and the most amazing facility to do that and to grow. Then Finn Balor came in, and he's the person who trained me in the first place, and to be right there with him at the same time, it was all a little bit...almost cosmic.
I interviewed Charlotte a few weeks ago, and since you're good friends with her, I just wanted to ask you the same question I asked her: Since both of you are the same brand, you've fought in the ring many times, do you ever find it difficult to compete against a close friend? Or do you actually prefer that sort of challenge?
I prefer it, because they're...what I think is so great about us is that we're incredibly competitive. We're the best of friends, but we're also very competitive, which makes us be better, every time, no matter what we're doing. It makes us lift more, it makes us go faster when we're training. Then also, it makes us want to get the best out of each other in the ring. Yeah, well also, we're also not scared of offending each other, or hurting one another's feelings, because it's like a sisterhood.
It probably doesn't surprise you she said the same thing.

What was your reaction to the Mae Young Classic? Did you get the chance to watch any of it so far?
I was there, and it was incredible. It was so good and...I've been on the independents with a lot of those women that had made it there, and to see that they had stuck with it consistently, and that they were getting their due rewards, was amazing. It made me so happy. It made me so happy to see the crowd interaction with them. They loved it. They never tired, and they were so invested in every single one of these characters. Women just poured their heart and soul into it, and you could see how much they cared and how passionate they were. That's what we need. I keep talking about...that we need women's championships, we need a women's tournament. That is all in the sight line now, and that's all very possible. There's so many women that I saw, that I would love to be in the ring against.
I just talked to Triple H about the event, and he said it was really about giving women the opportunity to make a name for themselves that may have not had otherwise.
Yep. Absolutely. That made me really happy. Mercedes Martinez was somebody that I knew from the independents, and Nicole Matthews, who actually didn't have a match on the TV taping...she hasn't done as much, and being able to see her and perform...I actually watched her first match. So it's crazy. Just seeing the distance that people have come, and that they're getting seen. The crowd is reacting so well to them. That's what makes me happy.
I've talked to a number of superstars about how they stay in shape on the road. Some, like Charlotte and Nattie, said that they stick to a rigid schedule. Others have said that they don't really have a set routine, that they just make sure to put in the work whenever they can. So I was wondering what your approach was to this?
I do CrossFit, and I have a great trainer who programs me. He's the same trainer Seth Rollins has for Crossfit.
I was just going to say, you probably got some tips from Seth.
Yeah, so we have the same trainer, and actually what...so I'll train five, six times a week. What I love about CrossFit is that we're always on the go, right? So we're always, you know...we might be tired or we might be feeling banged up or whatever, [but] CrossFit, it always makes you push yourself. So even if you're not able to give 100% effort, you're still getting a great workout, and you're getting your heart rate up. I'm lifting what resembles what we do in the ring, so like CrossFit. At the moment we have this five-week open CrossFit workout, where all of us that do CrossFit in WWE are competing against each other. We all donate $100 each, and then the winner will give it to a charity of their choice. So it's myself, Seth Rollins, Bayley was in it before she got injured, so now Sasha's in it to take her place, Roderick Strong, Noam Dar. It's really cool, it's really cool.
So along those lines, what do you do as far as diet is concerned?
So, diet, that I always find is...that part is a little bit trickier being on the road, than when we are at home. So when I'm at home, I'm able to measure everything, and you have 3oz of chicken, and 50g of rice, and whatever it was. Now, it's a little bit trickier, but I will make sure that my diet's clean constantly. Charlotte and I will try and find meal prep places on the road. Or I'll bring a cooler bag with some meals for the first few days and then we'll go to Whole Foods and stock up on chicken, rice, vegetables. I just, kind of, try to keep it simple.
