Danganronpa: Away Chapter 3: Only Human (Part 7)
Everyone stood around. This was our third time here, and yet it didn’t feel easier. It felt horrible. A new trial, a new person to die at the end of it all. Monokuma didn’t seem to mind. He sat in his chair and said, “Well, here we are for the third time. I hope you’re all prepared, because it isn’t going to be easy. Now then, let’s go over the rules for the Class Trial. Students will take turns discussing who they think is the killer. This will continue until an agreement has been reached. Afterwords, a vote will take place to determine who the blackened is. If you guess right, then only the blackened will be punished. However, if you guess wrong… then everyone BESIDES the blackened will be punished. Now let the Class Trial BEGIN!”
…
…
…
Duke: So, should we start?
Jay: Well, the bear told us to.
Jay: So I think we must.
Cassy: Well put.
Cassy: Unfortunately, he’s right.
Cassy: This isn’t going to be easy.
Andy: So, how do we begin?
Pierce: Justin, do you have any ideas?
Justin: …
Justin: Alright! I have an idea!
Justin: Duke, Tammy, Andy, Sophie. Can you recount the events that lead you to finding the body?
Duke: Oh, uh sure.
NON-STOP DEBATE!
BEGIN!
Duke: Well, I was in the lab for most of the morning.
Duke: I was working on making those fake bodies.
Duke: Then those three came to get me.
Tammy: We wanted to take him to the gym right away
Tammy: But he said he didn’t want to be disturbed during his work.
Andy: He was very adamant about that.
Sophie: So, we politely agreed to wait
Duke: And it was WORTH IT!
CCOA:
Tammy: But he said he didn’t want to be disturbed during his work.
Truth Bullet: Machine Noise
Justin: You’ve got that wrong!
Justin: I know I asked you this during the investigation as well,
Justin: But how could you not hear the noise of the trap activating and killing Buck?
Duke: Pardon?
Duke: I was in the science lab!
Duke: I couldn’t have heard it from there.
Justin: That’s not true.
Justin: When we were out in the hall, we could hear it.
Justin: It was still pretty loud, so I believe that it could be heard from the science lab!
Justin: Especially if you were trying to remain focused.
Duke: …
Justin: It is odd though.
Justin: Because I believe you didn’t actually hear it.
Elliot: What’s this?
Justin: Think about it.
Justin: A mysterious noise shattering the focus of a scientist in the zone.
Justin: I bet he would investigate whatever that noise is.
Justin: And he would have found Buck right away instead of half an hour later.
Pierce: Good point.
Andy: Well, what if he did hear it?
Pierce: What do you mean?
Andy: Well…
Andy: What if he’s lying about not hearing it?
Tammy: Why would he do that?
Andy: Well, and I’m sorry, but…
Andy: What if he KNEW what the noise was?
Tammy: That doesn’t make sense!
Tammy: Who would know that?!
Andy: ...The killer…
Tammy: ...Oh…
Duke: Straight outta the gate, eh?
Duke: I’ll have you know I didn’t do it!
NON-STOP DEBATE
BEGIN!
Duke: I didn’t do it!
Duke: Look at the file.
Duke: He died at 12:01.
Duke: How could I cover up in the four minutes it took for Andy, Tammy, and Sophie to get to the lab?
Sophie: I guess that’s right…
Tammy: Hold on! The machine did the killing.
Tammy: He didn’t need to cover anything up.
Tammy: He just had to wait it out!
Sophie: Oh yeah. That’s also true.
Tammy: The only ones there were Buck and Justin!
Annabelle: And the nature of the killing means anyone could have done it.
Duke: WAIT! I didn’t do it!
CCOA:
Tammy: The only ones there were Buck and Justin!
Truth Bullet: Second Blood Pattern
Justin: You’ve got that wrong!
Justin: Someone else WAS there.
Justin: This blood splatter proves it.
Tammy: Huh?
Tammy: Isn’t that yours?
Cassy: Well, his is in there, there appears to be a second bit of blood splatter.
Cassy: As indicated by this line of blood that pools downward above Justin’s.
Tammy: I see.
Jay: So,what does that prove?
Jay: That could have gotten there before the murder.
Justin: (He’s right. In order to figure this out, we need to know when that blood came onto the scene.)
Justin: Alright. Let’s go over what we know about the crime scene.
Justin: Maybe that’ll help us think of something.
NON-STOP DEBATE!
BEGIN!
May: Well, there seems to be a surplus of supplies in the hall.
May: I guess that’s how the culprit hid the machine.
Cassy: It is a very narrow hallway because of it.
Cassy: The placement there makes sense.
Cassy: If someone were to trip it, they would most likely be hit.
Jay: Plus, it’s close to the weapon storage and range.
Jay: They wouldn’t need to transport everything too far.
CCOA:
Cassy: If someone were to trip it, they would most likely be hit.
Truth Bullet: Rachel’s half of the necklace.
Justin: You’ve got that wrong!
Justin: While it is true that it’s a good place to be because it’s almost impossible to miss,
Justin: Nothing is impossible!
Cassy: Of course some things are impossible.
Cassy: Ghosts. Aliens. Elves.
May: So, are you blaming an elf for Buck’s murder?
Justin: That’s not quite what I had in mind.
Justin: But someone did miss it.
Justin: Namely, Sophie!
Sophie: Oh yeah, that's right.
Sophie: I tripped there yesterday,
Sophie: And I almost lost my necklace.
May: Oh yeah, that’s right.
May: So, you think she tripped on the tripwire?
Justin: It’s the only explanation.
Cassy: Sophie, why don’t you tell us about this trip.
Cassy: Maybe we can derive some new information about it.
Sophie: Oh. OK.
NON-STOP DEBATE!
BEGIN!
Sophie: Well, I had spent some time in the pool area.
Sophie: I left and walked down the hallway.
Sophie: I then found myself tripping over while holding the necklace.
Sophie: I was so worried I had lost it.
Sophie: But then Justin and May came to my rescue!
Cassy: Is this true?
May: Yeah! I remember I only found one piece though.
May: It was on the other end of the hall.
Cassy: How did it get there?
May: It must have slid over.
Cassy: I see…
CCOA:
May: It must have slid over.
Truth Bullet: Buck’s Monopad
Justin: I Agree!
Justin: Thank you May.
Justin: Because of this, we have definitive proof that the trap was set up since yesterday.
May: Awesome!
May: Uh, but how?
Justin: Simple.
Justin: Buck’s monopad was in the same spot as Rachel’s half of the necklace.
Justin: Which means it is possible for someone falling to the ground to drop something and have it slide over there.
Duke: OF COURSE! Repeating an action is the only way to confirm a hypothesis!
Cassy: Didn’t we know this?
Justin: It as more of a guess.
Justin: I had no proof.
Justin: Until now.
Cassy: ...I see.
May: So, what does this mean?
Justin: Simple.
Justin: It means that between when Sophie fell and when Buck died, someone had to reset the trap!
May: Ohhhhhhh!
Elliot: So, who do you think did it?
Duke: Well, OBVIOUSLY the killer.
Elliot” Right, I know that.
Elliot: But do you know who the killer is?
Justin: Unfortunately, no.
Justin: That’s still a rather big time frame in which to reset it.
Justin: Unless anyone went to the pool area last night.
…
Cassy: Well, SOMEONE had to have.
Cassy: What about the blood splatter?
Pierce: What ABOUT the blood splatter?
Pierce: We don’t have any proof it’s at all related to the crime.
Cassy: Grrrrrr
Justin: Unfortunately, he’s right about that as well.
Justin: At least for now.
Cassy: But then, where do we go from here?
Monobird: If I may.
…
Monobird: Now might be a good opportunity to talk about the motive.
Justin: !!
Justin: (The motive…)
Justin: Very well.
Justin: Let’s talk about the motive.
NON-STOP DEBATE
BEGIN!
Cassy: Both Justin and I had our secrets revealed.
Pierce: Plus Buck’s secret had just been revealed.
Tammy: No offence, but that doesn’t narrow the options down by a lot.
Andy: Well, I did tell you my secret.
Annabelle: A lot of people did.
Monobird: Yes, but how do you know what people were saying were true?
Andy: Are you saying I’m a liar?!
Monobird: I’m saying there’s no way to verify it without checking your monopads.
Annabelle: Hold up!
Annabelle: Couldn’t have been one of the two whose secrets HAVE been revealed?
Annabelle: The motive has gone on for days,
Annabelle: but the trap only successfully worked now!
CCOA:
Annabelle: Couldn’t have been one of the two whose secrets HAVE been revealed?
Truth Bullet: Tripwire
Justin: You’ve got that wrong!
Justin: While your idea has merit, I feel like I need to point out one thing.
Justin: I was the one who tripped the line.
Justin: If I had set up the trap, I would have known it was there.
Annabelle: Oh, I guess you have a point.
Monobird: Call to order!
Justin: Monobird?!
Monobird: What if you did though?
Justin: Huh?!
Monobird: What if you set the trap off on purpose?
Justin: Monobird, this is crazy!
Monobird: Is it?
Monobird: Or does it make complete sense?
REBUTTAL SHOWDOWN
BEGIN!
Monobird: Let’s look at the facts.
Monobird: You were there with Buck before he died.
Monobird: You set off the trap.
Monobird: However, Buck was the one who ended up dying.
Monobird: What if that was your plan all along?
Monobird: To get Buck killed.
ADVANCE!
Justin: Even if that was my plan,
Justin: how could I have made sure it was successful?
Justin: Buck could have gotten out of the way, leaving me to die.
Monobird: But you know Buck.
Monobird: You knew he would have protected you.
Monobird: You were the one who went to look for him.
Monobird: You did so by yourself, as well.
Monobird: Please explain why this isn’t rational.
CCOA:
Monobird: You did so by yourself, as well.
Truth Blade: Secrets Motive
Justin: I’ll cut through your lies!
Justin: I hate to admit this, but there was a reason I went by myself.
Justin: I was worried that if I had caught Buck in a bad mood,
Justin: then I would have ended up being just a portrait here.
Monobird: …
Justin: It would be easy to determine who did it.
Justin: Because I was alone.
May: Justin…
Justin: I know that doesn’t totally exonerate me,
Justin: but I think it’s worth mentioning.
Justin: Everyone was on edge.
Justin: Including Buck.
Monobird: …
Monobird: Very well.
Monobird: Perhaps it would be better to put the idea to public discussion.
Justin: I agree,
NON-STOP DEBATE
BEGIN!
Monobird: Could Justin have done it?
May: It...seems unlikely to me.
Jay: I mean, yeah.
Jay: It IS hard to believe.
Tammy: He was the first one to tell everyone his secret.
Andy: But that could be a ruse.
Pierce: Even so. Something doesn’t make sense about Justin being the killer.
Cassy: …
Piece: What’s with that look?
Pierce: You KNOW I’m right.
CCOA:
Pierce: Even so. Something doesn’t make sense about Justin being the killer.
Truth Bullet: Blackout
Justin: I agree!
Justin: Pierce, are you referring to my blackout?
Justin: When Buck pushed me out of the way into the wall?
Pierce: Correctomundo!
Monobird: What’s so weird about that?
Monobird: Wasn’t the Justin’s plan all along?
Pierce: Not quite.
Pierce: Think of the circumstances.
Pierce: The hallway is fairly narrow.
Pierce: Any sudden push to one side or the other would lead to the wall.
Pierce: So, I was thinking-
Cassy: You were thinking that it would be stupid to trigger it on your own and expect someone to push you out of the way
Cassy: because at best you would get hurt slightly, and at worst, what happened with Justin would happen.
Pierce: Exactly!
Monobird: …
Monobird: I’m failing to see the point.
Pierce: It’s simple.
Pierce: If you think about this like you would any other murder,
Pierce: then logically, the criminal would want to distance themselves from the scene of the crime.
Pierce: But in that narrow hallway, when you KNOW you’d be pushed against the wall
Pierce: you’d leave evidence that you were there from the start.
Cassy: So, it doesn’t make sense to activate it yourself if you were the killer
Cassy: Because it would leave evidence of you being there behind.
Pierce: Correct again!
Monobird: Oh…
Pierce: That said, this could be a very elaborate double bluff.
Pierce: But I doubt it.
Pierce: Especially since Justin was knocked out for a long time.
Justin: Yeah, that bump did a good number on me.
Pierce: I suggest we take a look at the biggest piece of evidence left behind by the killer.
Cassy: ...You mean the trap itself.
Pierce: Precisely.
Pierce: Let’s see what looking at this can tell us about our killer.
NON-STOP DEBATE
BEGIN!
Duke: Well, the killer had to be crafty.
Duke: They needed to know how to make such a machine.
Elliot: They also knew just where to put it too.
Elliot: You know, in order to kill someone.
Jay: The parts themselves were easy to find.
Jay: So that doesn’t lead us anywhere.
Tammy: It was rather loud when we tested it.
Tammy: How did the killer test it without making a noise?
Annabelle : Maybe they waited for no one to be near.
Annabelle: We didn’t have the time to test the range of the sound.
CCOA:
Elliot: You know, in order to kill someone.
Truth Bullet: Monokuma File #3
Justin: You’ve got that Wrong!
Justin: Elliot. You theorize that the killer knew where to put it so that it would kill someone.
Elliot: That’s right.
Justin: But something doesn’t make sense.
Justin: Look at the Monokuma File.
Elliot: What about it?
Justin: Buck was 6’2”
Justin: The contraption hit him on the back of the head.
Elliot: So?
Andy: AH!
Andy: I get it!
Andy: I’m 4’9”!
Andy: If I had tripped it, then I wouldn’t have even been hit, let alone killed!
Justin: Exactly!
Justin: The killer made a trap that not everyone could be killed by.
May: So, what does that tell us?
Annabelle: Was the trap set to kill Buck?
Justin: But that makes no sense either.
Justin: After all, I was the one who tripped it.
Sophie: And I had tripped it previously.
Justin: So, what gives?
Tammy: Well, obviously the killer won’t answer.
Justin: …!
Justin: Pierce!
Pierce: Yes?
Justin: You’ve tested the machine!
Justin: Plus, you’re a weapons expert.
Justin: Why don’t you tell us how it works?!
Pierce: …
Pierce: This is why you're an Ultimate.
NON-STOP DEBATE
BEGIN!
Pierce: When Monobird and I tested the contraption,
Pierce: We did have to hold the… bodies up to them.
Monobird: I did the holding.
Pierce: Yes. Once the trap was set, and everything was in place,
Pierce: I sprung the trap.
Monobird: It was very stunning.
Monobird” It knocked the bodies right out of my wings.
Pierce: And it left a huge gash in the back of their heads as well.
Monobird: Thus concludes our report.
CCOA:
Pierce: And it left a huge gash in the back of their heads as well.
Truth Bullet: Head Wound
Justin: You’ve got that wrong!
Justin: This came up during the investigation too.
Justin: But there is a big difference between the head wounds on the bodies, and on Buck.
Pierce: Yeah, I’ve noticed that too.
Pierce: But what could be causing it?
Justin: I don’t know.
Justin: But I think that this, along with the fact that the height of the contraption is odd,
Justin: makes me think the contraption we tampered with somehow!
Pierce: Are you trying to test me?!
Justin: Pierce?!
Pierce: Because if you think I messed with this, then you’ve got another thing coming!
Justin: Pierce, wait!
Pierce: I will NOT wait!
Pierce: I have to defend my honor.
REBUTTAL SHOWDOWN
BEGIN!
Pierce: So, the machine was tampered with, huh?
Pierce: Just because some things don’t line up!
Pierce: Well, I’m not going to just sit here and let you blame me!
Pierce: I’ll do what I need to defend myself!
ADVANCE!
Justin: Pierce, I didn’t accuse you of anything!
Justin: For all we know, the killer made the adjustments!
Pierce: Oh? And how could they adjust it?
Pierce: It’s true that the height could be adjusted.
Pierce: But the impact?
Pierce: There’s no adjusting for that.
Pierce: After all, the trap killed Buck, didn’t it?
CCOA:
Pierce: After all, the trap killed Buck, didn’t it?
Truth Blade: Monokuma File #3
Justin: I’ll cut through your lies!
Justin: Pierce, you magnificent bastard!
Justin: Of course!
Justin: It all makes sense now!
Pierce: ...heh
Pierce: Glad to be of help.
Pierce: But, what did I do?
Justin: We were looking at this all wrong!
Sophie: What do you mean?
Annabelle: Yeah, spill it out!
Justin: OK. Settle in, because this is gonna blow your minds.
Justin: So, our theory of what happened is as follows.
Justin: Buck and I walk down the hall.
Justin: I trip the wire, and Buck pushes me out of the way.
Justin: I hit the wall, but the ax hits Buck, killing him.
Cassy: That is what happened, yes.
Cassy: So, what are we getting wrong?
Justin: Take a look at the Monokuma File.
Justin: It says “The ax used to murder the victim was attached to the machine.”
Justin: But nowhere does it say that the machine itself was used to kill Buck!
Cassy: ...So you’re saying?
Justin: Yes.
Justin: The trap wasn’t what killed Buck.
Justin: Buck died by someone's own two hands!
…
…
…
Duke: ...Woah!
Justin: That clears up a lot of the confusion we’ve been having with this murder.
Annabelle: Hold on a second.
Annabelle: How do we know this?
Justin: What do you mean?
Annabelle: Well, the trap still went off.
Annabelle: How did Buck avoid it?
Justin: (That’s true…)
Justin: (But I know I’m right!)
Justin: (So, I just need to answer this question!)
NON-STOP DEBATE
BEGIN!
Annabelle: How did Buck avoid the ax?
Sophie: Maybe he went under it, like I did?
Andy: Maybe he’s got a long reach, so he didn’t need to get in the way of the trap to save Justin!
May: Maybe the trap didn’t actually go off…
Duke: I’ve got it! The trap just stopped before it got in his way, due to poor planning!
Tammy: Well, who’s right?!
CCOA:
Sophie: Maybe he went under it, like I did?
Truth Bullet: Buck’s Monopad
Justin: I agree!
Justin: You’re correct Sophie.
Sophie: I am?
Justin: Yes. He went under it, just like you said.
Cassy: How do you know?
Justin: Well, I mean, I don’t know for sure.
Justin: But I know he avoided it somehow.
Justin: Using his talent.
Cassy: His talent?
Justin: Yes.
Justin: Buck is the Ultimate Basketball Player.
Justin: As such, he has good reflexes and can avoid certain obstacles.
Justin: I was reminded of this earlier today when his monopad fell out of the locker and he caught it before it hit the ground.
Annabelle: So, what you’re saying is, Buck’s reflexes saved him?
Justin: Yes!
Justin: Well, from the trap anyway.
Annabelle: I see.
Elliot: Hold on. I don’t think it makes sense.
Annabelle: What are you talking about?
Elliot: I still think the trap killed him.
Elliot: He dodged it? That doesn’t make sense.
Duke: Hmmmm
Duke: It does seem far-fetched
Tammy: Come on, it makes perfect sense!
May: Well, there’s no proof for it.
Cassy: What are you saying?! It makes total sense!
Monokuma: HOLD ON EVERYONE!
Monokuma: I sense another debate coming on.
Monokuma: A new addition to this old school’s courtroom: DEBATE ARENA!
Monokuma flipped over an ignition and put a key in. Suddenly, the places everyone was standing had guardrails pop up. Everyone was given two buttons to push; one for if you think Buck was killed by the machine, and one for if you think he wasn’t. Once all the buttons were pushed, everyone started to move. It ended up that everyone who said that he was on one side, and everyone who said he wasn’t was on the other. The portraits were divided among the two sides.

Elliot: It just seems impossible for someone to dodge it.
Justin: PIERCE!
Pierce: And yet, Sophie managed to dodge it. Not to mention, Justin was the one who tripped it, not Buck.
Jay: There’s not enough room to move around in the hallway.
Justin: SOPHIE!
Sophie: There’s vertical room in the hallway. He could have went under like I did.
Duke: But that would require excellent reflexes and a lot of precise control.
Justin: ANNABELLE!
Annabelle: We’ve seen Buck in action. If excellent reflexes doesn’t describe him, I don’t know what does.
May: There’s still no definitive proof that this occurred.
Justin: CASSY!
Cassy: The proof is in the discrepancy between Buck’s wound and the would of the test dummies. Not to mention the height discrepancy.
Andy: OK but the trap could have been set-up that way.
Justin: TAMMY!
Tammy: If it were set-up like that, then it wouldn’t be a very good trap now, would it?
Duke: Perhaps something was wrong with my creations then.
Justin: CASSY!
Cassy: You said it yourself, your creations are as close to human as possible.
May: Did Buck even have enough time between saving Justin to dodge?
Justin: SOPHIE!
Sophie: I managed to fall faster than the trap, so for someone like Buck, finding the time should be no problem.
Elliot: It’s still possible that Buck was killed by the trap
Justin: I GOT THIS!
Justin: There is no possible way that Buck was killed by the trap.
FULL COUNTER
Justin, Cassy, Pierce, Annabelle, Tammy, Sophie: THIS IS OUR ANSWER!
Justin: There. We’ve proved our point.
Justin: So, now that we agree that Buck wasn’t killed by the machine, this blows the case wide open.
Cassy: Instead of everyone being a suspect…
Pierce: ...we’ve narrowed it down to a select few.
Justin: No.
Cassy: ?!
Pierce: ?!
Justin: I know EXACTLY who did it!
Cassy: …?
Pierce: …?
PICK SOMEONE
Question: Who Killed Buck Raptor?
Answer: Elliot Fairville
Justin: It could only be you!
Elliot: Me?!
Justin: Yes.
Justin: Out of everyone who doesn’t have an alibi, you are the ONLY person who could have done it!
Elliot: But how?
Elliot: How could you know this?
Cassy: Well, you were the one who instigated the debate we just had.
Pierce: Yeah, that is awfully suspicious.
Elliot: Puh-lease.
Elliot: That’s just circumstantial at best.
Justin: How about some actual proof?
Elliot: I think that’s only fair.
NON-STOP DEBATE
BEGIN!
Elliot: There’s no way I killed Buck.
Elliot: And even if I did, you can’t prove anything.
Elliot: Because the killer didn’t leave anything at the scene of the crime.
Pierce: You are behaving awfully suspicious for someone who claims to be innocent.
Cassy: Yeah. If you didn’t do it, then who did?
Elliot: Well, that’s what we’re trying to figure out, isn’t it?
Elliot: It’s be a shame if you voted me up.
Elliot: Since I’m not guilty.
CCOA:
Elliot: Because the killer didn’t leave anything at the scene of the crime.
Truth Bullet: Second Blood Pattern
Justin: You’ve got that wrong!
Justin: The killer did leave something behind.
Justin: A bloodstain!
Elliot: The bloodstain?
Justin: Yes. And I know something interesting about this bloodstain.
Justin: It shares a blood type with me.
Justin: Out of everyone who has that same blood type,
Justin: Rachel is dead,
Justin: and Annabelle has an alibi for the time of the murder,
Justin: leaving only you. Someone who had no alibi until 10 minutes after the murder.
Elliot: …
Elliot: …!
Elliot: Wait…
Elliot: Who told you this?
Justin: Duke.
Elliot: I see.
Elliot: hehehe
Elliot: HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Pierce: What’s so funny?
Elliot: It’s all becoming clear to me now!
Elliot: Yes, I KNOW who killed Buck, and it was none other than DUKE!
Duke: WHAT?!
Elliot: Here. I’ll prove it to you!
FALSE CLOSER
BEGIN!
Act 1: Once the motive got announced, Duke sprung into action. He created the contraption in order to kill someone! He didn’t care who. He went to the weapons supply room and shooting range to get all of his materials.
Act 2: He didn’t arouse suspicion because he was going to the science lab anyway to conduct his experiments. But that’s where the second part of his plan came to fruition. He created intentionally flimsy bodies in order to throw off any investigation that attempted to use them. Which he guaranteed would be this one.
Act 3: With the trap set, everything seemed to be in place. Now all he had to do was wait. He continued to huddle around the science room, so that he could observe his trap and take action quickly.
Act 4: His trap went off once, and when he heard it, he went to check it out, only to find Sophie narrowly avoided his trap. He bided his time, and re-set the trap.
Act 5: The next day, his trap sprang again. However, it was another mis-step Buck pushed Justin out of the way, and dodged.
Act 6: With his creation failing a second time, he got furious and admitted what was going on. Buck wanted to tell everyone, but Duke took the ax off of the machine and silenced Buck for good.
Act 8: He reattached his ax, and adjusted it a bit to align with the head Then he rushed back to the science lab, where he was found not 5 minutes later. He lied all during the investigation to throw everyone off their tracks
Elliot: Yes, it is all clear as day now! The killer is none other than: Duke Hunter, the Ultimate Chemist!
Justin: That was a pretty convincing story you just told.
Justin: But that’s all it was
Elliot: If it were a story, then your enjoyment came from me getting 5 first prizes in storytelling contests.
Elliot: But I assure you, this is real.
Justin: We’ll see about that.
CCOA:
Act 2: He created intentionally flimsy bodies in order to throw off any investigation that attempted to use them.
Truth Panel: Duke’s Bodies
Question: Who wanted them made?
Justin: You can’t rewrite the truth!
Justin: Elliot, I bet you didn’t know this,
Justin: but Duke didn’t decide to make the bodies.
Elliot: What?
Cassy: I did.
Elliot: Really?
Justin: Yes.
Justin: They were her idea.
Justin: Now, this is an assumption on my part,
Justin: but as a detective, she’s seen her fair share of these body doubles before.
Justin: So, I’m willing to bet she could tell a good one from a flimsy one.
Cassy: Indeed I could.
Cassy: By the way Duke, your specimens were excellent.
Duke: !!
Duke: Th-thanks…
Cassy: Duke? Are you alright?
Duke: ….no.
Elliot: Oh well.
Elliot: It’s not like that matters too much.
Elliot: Since Buck didn’t end up getting hit anyway.
Pierce: A fact you tried to steer us away from.
Elliot: I had legitimate concerns, OK.
Elliot: The rest of my story is flawless.
Justin: Don’t count on it.
Act 4: His trap went off once, and when he heard it, he went to check it out,
Truth Panel: Machine Noise
Question: Does the machine sound off when it misses?
Justin: You can’t rewrite the truth!
Justin: I’ll admit, that is a very crafty plan.
Elliot: And Duke is a very crafty murderer.
Justin: However, there is something you haven’t taken into account.
Justin: Namely, WHY the machine makes a loud noise.
Elliot: Huh?
Justin: Duke, you told me you didn’t hear anything at the time of the murder, correct?
Duke: OF COURSE I DIDN’T!
Cassy: Wow. He seems so nervous.
Duke: BECAUSE I JUST GOT ACCUSED OF MURDER!
Duke: HER STORY WAS SO WELL-TOLD THAT EVEN I BELIEVE IT!
Elliot: See? He confessed! Can we vote now?
Justin: Wait just a minute! Duke didn’t hear the noise!
Elliot: Oh, that’s just another lie.
Justin: Is it?
Justin: Because there’s an easier solution to this.
Cassy: And what might that be?
Justin: The machine only makes a sound when it hits something.
Justin: Since we all agree, it didn’t hit Buck, there was no sound to alert Duke.
Justin: However, if someone were there, they would know that the trap failed a second time.
Justin: Someone who shares a blood type with me, perhaps?
Elliot: I won’t lose!
Elliot: I REFUSE to lose!
Elliot: Losing is not in my nature!
Elliot: You want a real competition? Fine!
Justin: (There’s that look again.)
Justin: (The look in her eyes when she gets ultra competitive.)
Justin: Just so you know, the truth isn’t a competition.
Elliot: YES IT IS, AND I’M WINNING!
REBUTTAL SHOWDOWN
BEGIN!
Elliot: You keep going on and on about the blood type thing.
Elliot: But how can you verify that?
Elliot: There’s no blood testing kits.
Elliot: For all we know, Duke could be lying to us.
Elliot: Trying to make us all look like fools!
Elliot: And get away with murder.
ADVANCE
Justin: Why would he lie about that?
Justin: We’ve seen him in action during Troy’s murder.
Justin: We know he can see blood on another level.
Elliot: Maybe that’s his secret.
Elliot: You know, what this whole motive has been about.
Elliot: Maybe he can’t actually see blood better than others.
Elliot: And he’s just been coasting on him saying he could.
CCOA:
Elliot: Maybe that’s his secret.
Truth Blade: Duke’s Bodies
Justin: I’ll cut through your lies!
Justin: Sorry Elliot, but that’s not his secret.
Justin: And I can prove it.
Duke: HOW?!
Elliot: The killer took the words right out of my mouth.
Cassy: You mean your own mouth.
Elliot: Quiet hussy!
Cassy: You’re one to talk.
Justin: Duke, you’ve said that these bodies are as close to human as possible.
Duke: ...Yes. What about it?
Justin: Simple.
Justin: There’s one thing missing from them though.
Justin: One thing Duke would have added.
Elliot: And what might that be?!
Justin: Hm.
Justin: Sexual characteristics.
Pierce: HA!
Pierce: He would too.
Cassy: I don’t understand.
Cassy: Those are usually not present on regulation bodies.
Duke: Yeah, well, they’re fools to not allow it!
Duke: The slightest differences between a male and female body can make all the difference!
Duke: Ooops.
Justin: Just as I thought.
Justin: Your sciencey nature deceives you!
Duke: Curses!
Elliot: So? What does that prove?
Justin: It’s simple really.
Justin: Duke doesn’t know what testosterone and estrogen look like with his special eyes!
Justin: So he couldn’t ad those into the bodies he made!
Duke: *Sigh I might as well say it.
Duke: I actually CAN tell the difference…
Duke: ...but I can’t tell remember which one is the male hormone, and which one is the female hormone.
Duke: And I can’t assist in experiments with them because of it.
Duke: There. That’s my dirty little secret.
Cassy: ...Should we help him out?
Justin: Sure.
Justin: Hey Duke?
Duke: Huh?
Justin: Testosterone is male.
Cassy: And estrogen is female.
Duke: I see.
Justin: If it helps further, just remember testosterone comes from your testicles.
Duke: …
Jay: That’s your balls, dude.
Duke: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Duke: OK!
Duke: Hey, is that also where the word ‘testify’ comes from?
Andy: Actually, yes.
Duke: Fascinating.
Annabelle: HELLO! Can’t we please get back to the trial?
Tammy: Yeah, this was informative and all, but we need to focus on how Elliot killed Buck.
Elliot: So, you think I did it?
May: Well, everything seems to make sense.
Elliot: I did NOTHING!
Elliot: NOTHING I SAY!
Elliot: AND YOU CAN’T PROVE IT!
Pierce: ...She’s delirious.
Justin: And I have absolute proof she did it too.
Justin: I just need to get through to her!
PERSONA PUMMELING
Elliot Fairville-Persona Forming:
Elliot is on a first place podium, holding flowers, wearing a crown, an elegant dress, and running shoes, having just won a race.
Justin Arbil-Persona Forming:
Justin’s armband forms into a trench coat this is white on the left side and black on the right side, combs his messy hair back in one motion, reaches into his trench coat and pulls out two guns, his left hand holding a black one, his right hand holding a white one.
Elliot keeps mouthing off, trying to defend herself as loudly as possible, but Justin uses his guns to shoot the words away. The words get sent back over time. First, the podium leaves, then the crown, then the running shoes, then the dress. Backed into a corner, Elliot swings wildly with her next choice of words.
Elliot: You can’t prove anything! How do you know I was even there?!
Bits of truth bullet: Cloth The White Ripped
Correct Formation: The Ripped White Cloth
Justin: You’ve got that wrong!
The flowers from Elliot’s bouquet fly off the stems and the petals fall around a distraught Elliot.
Justin: This is it. The final piece of the puzzle!
Justin: When I was pushed aside, I heard something rip.
Justin: And when I awoke, I had this white cloth in my hand.
Justin: Funny how it seems to match the uniform you’re wearing.
Elliot: !!!
Justin: So, what do you have to say now?
Elliot: …
Justin: (Gottem!)
Justin: Very well.
Justin: I will summarize what happened, if it pleases the court.
CLOSING STATEMENT
BEGIN!
Act 1: Once the motive was announced, several people were freaked out by their secret, including the killer. The killer was desperate for people to not find out their secret, so they hatched a plan.
Act 2: With some supplies provided by the shooting range, the killer began making a contraption to kill someone. They didn’t care who, so long as they could get away with it. They set up the trap in the nearby hallway, and decided to let nature take its course.
Act 3: However, when someone trapped the wire the first time, it just so happened that they avoided it. Sophie tripped on the wire, but fell down before the ax could hit her.
Act 4: The killer noticed this, and fixed it up as fast as possible. They were coming to the area anyway to check up on the trap, and luckily for them, no one noticed it had gone off. They even had time to stop by and say hi to me.
Act 5: With the trap now set up once again, the killer couldn’t afford another mistake. So they dedicated whatever time they had to monitoring their trap hidden amongst the clutter in the hall.
Act 6: Their plan came to fruition once more with Buck and I traveling down the hall. Neither of us had hit it on our way it, but I had hit in on our way back. Lucky for me, I was pushed out of the way by Buck. Buck then used his reflexes to dodge it.
Act 7: As I was falling over, I collided with the killer. I ripped off part of their clothes, and I managed to smash them into the wall , along with myself, causing a dual bloodstain.
Act 8: Upon seeing the killer, Buck questioned what was happening. Buck noticed the trap, and decided something had to be done. The killer, knowing that Buck knows, also decides it’s time to take action. They take the ax, and kill Buck. To protect their secret.
Act 9: Once Buck was dead, the killer put the ax back on the machine. They adjusted it as well to match the head wound. They then left, making sure that no one spotted her.
Act 10: They went back to their room and fixed themselves up. They changed out of their ripped clothes, and stopped their bleeding. They regrouped with Cassy, Pierce, and Annabelle and hung out with them until the body was discovered.
Justin: A well thought out plan, but the truth always comes up. Right Elliot Fairville, the Ultimate Contestant?!
Elliot: …
Elliot: …
Elliot: ...you win.
Elliot: Just vote!
Justin: Well Monokuma, you heard her.
Monokuma: Well, it looks like it’s time for a vote.
Monokuma: Remember, if you guess right, only the killer is punished.
Monokuma: But if you guess wrong, then everyone besides the killer is punished.
Monokuma: So, who do you think did it?
VOTE
Question: Who killed Buck Raptor?
Answer: Elliot Fairville
Monokuma: Alright, let’s check the result.
Results: 11 votes for Elliot Fairville
Monokuma: Well, let’s see if you’re right.
The slot machine with the images of us came down and started spinning. Finally it landed on three pictures of Elliot and the machine congratulated us with flowers and Monocoins again.
TRAIL COMPLETE!
“YOU DID IT! THE HAT TRICK! THREE IN A ROW!” Monokuma said. “How do you want to celebrate?”
Pierce answered “Freedom would be cool.”
Monokuma looked at him and said “I’ll get you something nice.
“How could you Elliot?” May demanded. Elliot stared at the floor. “WHY?!” May continued. No answer from Elliot. “All just because you LOST once?!
“I didn’t lose!” Elliot said, angrily. She went back to her sad state. “That was a lie.” We all looked at her. We were afraid, but we could also feel her pain. “I guess now it doesn’t matter” she said, crying. “The truth is, I’ve killed before.”
“WHAT?!” Andy said.
“How?” Pierce asked.
“*sniff Well…” Elliot began, “it was during a singing contest. I was doing well as usual. But I noticed that the person who was coming in second getting really upset. I over heard her.”
“This was my one big chance” said the girl in Elliot’s flashback “And now, I can’t even win a stupid singing contest, let alone spread love and joy across the world with my voice.”
Back in the present, Elliot continued her story. “I felt so bad for her. So, I failed on purpose to give her the win.”
“Elliot…” May said.
“What happened next?” Cassy asked.
“Well, when they were awarding her,” Elliot said, “a strange noise was heard. The next thing I recall, there was an explosion. Once I had gained consciousness, she was found dead.”
“Elliot….” May said.
“You didn’t kill her,” Annabelle said.
“Yeah. It was some jerk with a bomb” Jay said.
“But that should have been me!” Elliot shouted. “I should have exploded that day! Not her! I made the choice, and she paid the ultimate price for it! I’m just as bad as whoever it was.”
“Speaking” said Monokuma.
We all turned to the little monster. “No” said Duke.
“Yes, it is TRUE!” Monokuma said. “The Ultimate Killer is to blame for this! I didn’t know I had help. Because of you, I got rid of the would-be Ultimate Singer!”
“You MONSTER! You FIEND! You FECKLESS CRETIN!” Andy shouted.
“Wait” Elliot said. “If that was you, then something is off.”
“What is?” Monokuma said.
Elliot thought about it for a minute. “I don’t know. But if you’re killing us here, and you killed her there, then there’s a strange discrepancy.”
“Well, no matter” Monokuma said. “If you can’t think of it in the next few seconds, that information is lost forever. Because now, for you, Elliot Fairville, the Ultimate Contestant, IT’S PUNISHMENT TIME!
A screen came up and it read “Game Over. Elliot Fairville has been found Guilty. Time for the PUNISHMENT!” A pixel Monokuma came after a pixel Elliotl. Elliot stood still and got carried off. On the punishment grounds, Elliot was strapped to a chair at a table. Monokuma came up to the table, and delivered a plate of a lot of hot dogs, along with some bottles of ketchup and mustard. He then left. Two mechanical arms sprouted from the table, and a counter appeared above them.
A title card popped up. It read “Elliot Fairville’s Execution: 1000 Hot Dogs!” The mechanical arms began force-feeding Elliot the hot dogs. As she ate more and more, the counter began going up. At first, it went slowly, but it kept getting faster and faster.
Elliot then had a spark in her eyes, She broke one of her arm restraints, grabbed the mustard, and sprayed on the wall a peace sign.
She kept getting fed, and the counter kept going up . “996….997...998...999…” as the last hot dog was jammed in Elliot’s, mouth, there was something different about it. The lighting of a match revealed that the last hot dog was a stick of dynamite, which exploded Elliot. What remained of her fell onto the table.
Everyone was pale. “Disgusting” May said.
“I couldn’t agree more!” Jay said.
Cassy stared curiously at the peace sign that Elliot had painted. “Hmmmm.” She took a picture of it.
“Well, it’s late” Monokuma said. “That’s what we get for not doing this first thing in the morning. Come on. Up the elevator with you lot.”
Monokuma shooed us to the elevator. It’s not like we would do anything else. Two of our friends died today, and again, it was all thanks to him.
On the elevator, we could all feel it. Failure. We had failed again. No matter how hard we tried, and no matter how much we thought we were gaining on Monokuma, he knows how to push our buttons and make us nothing more than puppets in his sick and twisted game. The silence was broken by Jay punching the wall. Somehow, that said it all.
When we got back up, we all headed to our rooms. It was late, and we didn’t have the energy to do anything else. Even if we did, who would want to? Once I was in my room, I had thought about Elliot’s secret. Would I do the same in her shoes? Normally, that kind of thinking was just completely rhetorical. But in this situation, it’s a possibility.
It also made me wonder. Everyone has skeletons in their closets. Everyone has made mistakes. I then smiled. For there was the silver lining. The Ultimate Killer also makes mistakes. It’s just a matter of finding them.
Meanwhile, in Pierces room, Pierce was looking at his monopad. “Well, I guess I should tell them eventually” he said to himself. “But when? And how? And if they know, what will happen?” We turn to see his monopad. He is on his secret, which reads “No secret at all, regarding his Ultimate Talent.”
